I began working in a salon and decided it was a good idea to start taking better care of my hair. I recently moved to an area where they have nothing but well-water which took an awful toll on my scalp and made it dry and itchy, and my hair a dry/frizzy mess.
First of all, I NEVER would have bought this shampoo if I didn't recieve a discount through the salon. Personally, I think it's too expensive for the amount you actually get.
That being said, after over a week of me actually using the shampoo, my hair and scalp feel healthier than ever. My hair is shiney, well-maintained, and my scalp no longer itches.
However, I use the shampoo along with the Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Hair & Scalp treatment as a conditioner (which I also never would have bought without some sort of discount). I feel like the shampoo along with an average conditioner would be too harsh on my hair and the hair & scalp treatment seems to help wonders.
Would I suggest using this shampoo? If you have any type of issues with your scalp, definitely. But I can't see this shampoo working for all hair-types. I think I might have just gotten lucky.

I'm on the fence about Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree Special Shampoo.
Does it do what it claims to do? Yes! A resounding yes. Although I wouldn't say I have oily hair, I'm still prone to those days where my scalp is greasy and gross. And this shampoo delivers! ;) It cuts right through the oil and takes care of any itchiness that comes along with it.
But I wouldn't necessarily recommend this shampoo because although it works wonders on my scalp, it makes the rest of my hair super-dry. I find that before shampooing my roots, I have to coat the rest of my hair with conditioner in order to balance this effect. If I don't, I have to be extremely careful when combing my hair afterwards.
And then there are the ingredients. Please note that this is not by any means a negative review! I love how much this stuff calms my scalp. But it worries me that this product contains both sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate (neither of which are good for the hair, skin, or eyes). I wouldn't say I'm an all-natural person, but the effects of SLS concern me! :(
All in all, I'd say that your results will really depend on your hair type. Although this isn't the best shampoo for my hair, it is the only shampoo (in fact, the only hair product in general) that my brother will use - and his hair is shiny and perfect. Go figure! :)

My ex bought this for our teen-aged daughter, who has thin, oily hair. My hair is thick. wavy, and fine, but I thought I'd give it a try, too. I don't really care for the scent, but it dissipates when my hair is dry. What I do like about it is how soft and clean my hair is after using it! It makes my scalp tingle a bit and I've found I don't need any additional product for body after using this. Even my hair dresser noticed a difference in my hair at my last haircut. She asked what I was using and said there was a noticeable difference in it from the previous time I was in. Because of the scent, when that bottle ran out, I got the regular PM shampoo, but it wasn't as good as this tea tree oil kind, so I went back and got another bottle of the tea tree oil shampoo. I do hate the stupid hard plastic bottle. It's hard to squeeze and I have the shake the shampoo down hard to get the last remains out. But that wasn't enough to make me not use it again.

My scalp had issues. I HAD to take a shower EVERY SINGLE DAY because the moment I woke up, there was never a day when I didn't scratch my head because it was so itchy. I didn't take shower because my hair looked wild or because I didn't wash myself after sports that day; I had to clean my hair so that it wouldn't smell and itch throughout the day. I used many products that said would be good especially for scalps but those products didn't really live up to my expectations.
Until I met Paul Mitchell's Tea Tree Shampoo. I now don't have to wash my hair every single morning and go up to two days without washing my hair (yeah that may should gross but it's true)! It's truly a miracle for me and I really love it! My first time ever in my life when I felt my hair was clean and fresh!
People say that you should wash your hair at night if possible because all the dust, oil, and other molecules in the air will block the pores on your scalp and that can create itchiness, inflamed scalp, and that disgusting scalp scent that everyone hates. But after using the Tea Tree Shampoo, I don't have that problem anymore! My scalp doesn't smell anyone, even on the second days, and no more itchiness as well! I really really love this product~
The bad side to this is that it does dry my hair out... like a lot... but it's okay because that's why people created conditioners and treatments! Because people hate having dry hair! I also haven't gotten a hair cut in a while so I might just be hallucinating. But this is a great product. I will definitely buy this again.

The most I like about this shampoo is its peppermint scent and a cooling sensation. These two things together truly invigorate my spirit! But obviously the reason I bought this shampoo was not to feel more energetic but to have healthy and shiny hair.
I used this shampoo around 4 times and by now I didn't notice that it boosted the strength of my hair.
At the same time I cannot say that this shampoo is bad as it does its work - it washes away impurities and leaves the hair fresh and clean. But mostly that’s it, I cannot say anything else good about it.
In spite it contains peppermint oil, tea tree oil and lavender oil, I feel like it still dries out my hair, probably because it contains sulfates.
I don’t think I will repurchase it again, as personally for me it is not worth to pay 17 euro for the results it gives.
Edit: I am using this shampoo for over a month time now. And I noticed that if I use it three times a week, it dries out my scalp. And it had never happened to me before! I thought that if my roots become oily in 2-3 days my scalp just can't be dry. But yes, it can be if you use such shampoos as this... I am angry and disappointed..
I won't buy this brand any more as it is not the first time when Paul Mitchell doesn't meet my expectations.

A friend had a gallon of this and raved how great it was, and I was afraid that my hair loss could be from scalp issues, so she gave me some in a jar to take home. At first I really liked the tingly feel and nice minty smell, but it does dry my hair out like crazy. I usually use good conditioners after, but I don't like my hair to squeak when I'm taking out excess water. That sounds like damage to me. I guess it works for some, but for me it's just too strong. I'm making my husband finish it. He has greasier hair :) I prefer Clear brand Shampoo. I wouldn't recommend this for anyone with dry hair. I sometimes use it to shampoo out an oil mask. But other than that I avoid it.

An unfortunate side effect of a medication that I began taking was scalp acne, very oily hair and skin, and my scalp was also itchy and irritated. I tried MANY different shampoos/conditioners/treatments (and I gave them all 2 weeks or more) of various brands and prices before I tried the Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Special Shampoo. This product has almost entirely cleared the scalp acne, and leaves my scalp calm and gets rid of the itch. It manages to removes the thick film of excess oil from my hair (especially the roots). This shampoo is probably very drying on NORMAL hair, and it does tend to dry out my ends, which is why I use a very moisturizing conditioner on the ends. I also rotate with a more moisturizing shampoo. The first time I used this, it tingled so much that it felt like it was stinging, but it was very temporary. Now that I'm used to it I barely notice. Also, the smell can be overpowering even if you like the smell of tea tree oil, but this wasn't a deal breaker for me. Again, I'm pretty used to it by now. The product is pricey, but since this product is exactly was my hair and scalp needed, it's worth every penny to me. I hope Paul Mitchell never dicontinues their tea tree line!!!

I honestly wanted to love this product, but I didn't.
My mom recommended this product to me because I have really dry scalp and a lot of flaking. It had a really invigorating feeling and smelled so fresh and minty, but it just didn't work for me. Honestly, it just kind of dried my scalp out and I think it really irritated my scalp more. I'm a teenager with really oily skin and think hair, and I wanted to love this product, but it just didn't work for my hair type. :(

This product is amazing. First off, my hair is dry, I am dandruff prone, and curly but I love to straighten the life out of it. This is not a product that I would use if was washing my hair every day, my hair is too dry for that.
My sister in law recommended this shampoo, and I am in love. It has kept the flakes away and I feel that it removes all the product build up I have in my hair from leave in conditioner, heat protectant, etc. I woke up the 3rd day after washing and my hair still looked amazing with no need for dry shampoo.
My hair does feel a little too squeaky clean (even though I concentrate on my scalp) but this is easily remedied by a good conditioner.
I had a bad experience with a Paul Mitchell product before, and wouldn't have tried this if it hadn't been recommended to me. The most important thing is to figure out what types of products work best for your hair type.

I don't really have any specific hair problems. I was just looking for a new shampoo that would keep my hair soft and cleanse (like a shampoo is supposed to do).
This smells really nice. It's a light green thick gel that tingles when you apply it.
Unfortunately, this did not work for me AT ALL. It dried my hair out so much. It did not make my hair soft, shiny, less frizzy, etc. To remove all the oil from my hair, I had to wash with this twice, and I've never had to do that with any other shampoos before!
Created problems in my hair. So angry, especially since it's not cheap. I'll go back to pantene/tresemme/l'oreal and all the CHEAP brands THAT ACTUALLY WORK.
Thanks for nothing paul mitchell. How the hell do I fix this tangled mess of hair? I'll never buy this again. :(

I absolutely adore this shampoo. I've struggled with oily hair at the scalp...but I have a dry itchy scalp at the same time. I could never find a shampoo that would treat both. My dermatologist suggested this so I gave it a whirl. expensive, yes, but I no longer have to wash my hair everyday. Which is a feat all on its own for me. I totally recommend. Well worth the money!!

Very pleasantly surprised by this…
First off, the smell is awesome, truly awesome. It is very fresh and invigorating and exactly what I need in the mornings to keep from nodding off right there in the shower. While I was washing my hair, I could almost FEEL each individual follicle being deeply cleansed and my scalp was all nicely tingly and so were my hands.
This shampoo left my hair just so amazingly REFRESHED and just…CLEAN. It gave me just a wonderful, fresh, renewed feeling. And surprisingly, this shampoo isn't drying, in fact it is so moisturizing I have skipped conditioning altogether. Anti-frizz serum is still a necessity, but my hair was nice and shiny and smelled absolutely AMAZING.
Note: I would use this about once a week, because it is deeply cleaning. Since tea tree is very helpful with dandruff and other scalp problems, if your scalp is irritated in anyway whatsoever or just dirty, buy this product immediately. Of course, dandruff can never be conquered completely, but this shampoo soothes the scalp and reduces itching entirely.
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful product. thank you, paul mitchell, a million times over<3

I hate it...
I've decided to try it out because the smell was so nice but it irritates my scalp BADLY afterwards. I guess it's the sulfate in it.
also I read below that this is a deep cleansing shampoo and I can honestly say I've had better then this, it doesn't lather which at first I thought was a good thing but I'm not sure if I got a bad batch or something.
it requires at least 2 washes to properly clean your hair, it leaves it with an odd sensation. like there is still some off it you haven't rinsed properly, also it drys it out badly even with the use of conditioner.
my hair is dry as it is and I thought this thing would give it more volume, instead all it did was make my scalp angry and my hair dry and brittle. the only good thing I can say about it is that mint smell is nice :(

I bought the 300ml bottle and loved it so much that I went to buy the professional size of 1000ml next. The large size comes with a pump and is much cheaper.
Unlike other cheap shampoos that have "mint", this one gives my head a tingly feel consistently. For the cheaper brands, my skin must have become desensitized to them very fast.
The smell is able to relieve some minor headaches.
This product is able to clean my scalp very thoroughly of any flakes. My straight hair will still be manageable without the use of a conditioner but is still recommended not to skip a conditioner. Not drying thou.
Seems to strip off my hair dye extra quick. A very powerful cleaning agent.
Hair will be extra shiny for a day.

Since going back to an ultra short pixie, I've been using more cleansing shampoos to remove the styling pastes I use to bring out the texture in my haircut. My stylist uses Paul Mitchell products and she's lathered me up in Tea Tree shampoo every time I go in for a trim. I loved the scent and especially loved the way hair felt afterwards: clean, but not stripped, and very soft and shiny. After a year of loving my post-salon hair, I finally decided to splurge on a small bottle. I bought a liter to refill the smaller bottle after a couple of months of near daily use. If you have short, fine hair like mine, this stuff may be you favorite. It sure is mine. My hair looks and feels great and my scalp is happy. I can't ask for anything more!

I love this shampoo..I also bought the corresponding Tea Tree Special Conditioner with it. My hair has oily roots, dry ends and my scalp is sensitive and dry. My hair would normally get oily if I did not wash it everyday. My second day hair would have a little sheen to it (not frying pan greasy, but definitely a little oil). If I use a shampoo for oily hair, it cleanses really well...but usually my scalp gets too dry. If I use a shampoo for dry hair, it moisturizes my scalp but makes my hair oily. So, I have never really found the right shampoo for me and have ALWAYS been buying new ones. That is, until I heard about this Paul Mitchell Tea Tree line. I decided to try it out since I have tried almost everything else out there. When I first used it, I noticed the burst of peppermint smell and since I don't mind peppermint, I really liked it. When I was massaging the shampoo through my hair and scalp, it was a very invigorating and soothing process. My scalp was tingly (in a good way) and it just felt clean and really nice. When rinsing and putting the conditioner only on my ends, my scalp was still tingly and fresh feeling. I blow-dried my hair and even after that, my scalp felt fresh. I decided not to judge the way my hair felt until after a week of using it. So after that week (I washed my hair 5 out of the 7 days) I noticed that my hair wasn't greasy, did NOT get oily after 1 day and it was soft and sillky. I was absolutely amazed that this really combated my troublesome hair! If you have any of my hair symptoms I have mentioned above, give this shampoo/conditioner duo a try!

This is the worst shampoo i've ever used in my entire life. I bought a gift set that came with this shampoo, the matching conditioner, and the soap bar. While I was rinsing the shampoo out of my hair in the shower, I felt my hair becoming overly dried out. But, I didn't really think anything of it at first. I used the conditioner afterwards. After I got out of the shower & put my products in and my hair dried, I began to straighten my hair like usual. As I was straightening my hair, I began to realize my usual healthy & silky hair, was now drier than it's ever been before. Shortly after, I realized it was because of this shampoo. Because of this, I will no longer use this nor will I ever repurchase. I wanted to like this so bad, but it ruined my healthy hair. This is a major clarifying shampoo, & it will dry out your hair. It also strips the color out of your hair. This shampoo is FULL of sulfates, which are terrible for color treated hair. The smell is amazing, but that's about the only good thing about this product. I'am now using deep conditioners to repair the damage from the one time use of this shampoo. My hair is back to normal now, but I will never take this risk again. I do not reccommend. There are better & healthier clarifying shampoos. To be fair, my hair doesn't get oily or greasy fast...so this would probably work better for people who have that problem. For me, not so much.
& I forgot to mention that I work in a salon, & over half a dozen people that have purchased the tea tree shampoo have brought them back for a refund because it dried the life out of their hair as well.

I got this shampoo on sale for 25$CA with the conditionner. My friend who is a hairdresser told me that tea tree oil was really good for oily hair and it actually works! I don't use this shampoo every time, i alternate with shampure and fekkai and it's with this one that my hair stays soft and clean longer. I also really like the cold tingle on my scalp when i use it. But you must use the conditionner otherwise it will dry your hair

I have to first start off by saying that I bought this to use as a clarifying shampoo, not as a dandruff shampoo. And for that purpose it was only marginally okay. But as a normal shampoo, it was great. I probably wouldn't use this everyday. But on the days I did, I enjoyed it. The scent was such a pick-me-up in the shower in the morning! It's a bit on the pricey side. But I would still buy it again. For the scent alone, I would buy it again.
