I returned this product to Aveda after using for several weeks. Pros: the conditioner minimized the slight yellow tones on my natural, silver platinum hair. Cons: Little to no moisture but rather softened my hair to a point that it was difficult to manage and impossible to hold a style. Reading other comments, Blue Malva probably works best for those with highlights and/or color treated hair.
I had used about 1/3 of the the tube and the Aveda SA hassled me that I had used half the product. Aveda had a "good return" policy at one time and I really felt insulted as the customer in front of me in line had just spent well over $250 on products and I was given an attitude over an $18 (overpriced) item.
At best, the only Aveda products that work marginally for me are their Hand Relief, Foot Relief and the Calming Body Wash.

Love this product.
I get so many compliments whenever i use it!
My hair is naturally fair but i get highlights. I swear this has saved me a fortune in salon costs, I rarely have to go because of this. If my hair is looking a bit dull, i just use this and it freshens it straight up.
Just a bit on the exxy side but totally worth it - i currently have 3 "in stock" at my house in a kind of doomsday prepper/what if aveda discontinue it kind of way.

Let me start by saying that I LOVE the color that this product deposits. After laying in the sun during the summer my dark brown hair turns brassy. This product quickly eliminates that. There is however something about this that my hair does not like.
1) It stains everything. Be careful, it can get on the shower walls if you have long hair like me. It also stains the palm of my hands. No big deal , just means the color is intense.
2) It turned my hair to straw!!!! Horrible, dull, awful , stiff as paper ! Not good. I know it was the culprit because it started as soon as I used this and stopped as soon as I stopped using it.
3)Oddly enough it seems like I lost a ton of hair whenever I used this.
It didn't work for me , but hey, not everything reacts the same :)
I'm now officially done using Aveda products (until the next time I decide to try out something new ;)

I like this, it smells herbally, like rosemary and lavender, and i hate the smell of lavender. I have brown hair with a lotttt of blonde highlights, this keeps them platinum blonde and lovely, used about once every 2 weeks or so. strange that this is called BLUE malva, a sort of misnomer, because the conditioner is purple colored, and purple counteracts yellow brass, blue counteracts orange...? i wish this made my light brown hair more ashy, but it doesnt touch my brown hair for some reason. i leave it in the shower for about 5-10 minutes after using my ag sterling silver shampoo. This conditioner is actually pretty moisturizing on its own, i dont feel the need to follow with anything else when i use it. because i use this so infrequently, i guess it's worth the price and itll last a long time. about 20 bucks at the salon for an 8oz tube. Some users say this may stain their bathroom and hands, i don't find this to be the case at all, it comes right off with water, even if i dont rinse right away, in fact it doesnt stain at all really. Will repurchase if i go blonde again.

Great for to toning out brassiness on light blonde hair - it's more blue as the name suggests than it is purple so it's perfect for more orange brassiness in blondes and not just the yellowing of grey or platinum hair. Other than being great for toning it isn't so great for anything else. It is not very rich or moisturizing. In fact of you CO-wash and happen to be blonde this is a good option for you as it is as drying as most shampoos. Would I buy this again? I'm on the fence as I like the more blue-ish toning quality vs most bright purple shampoos out there and for a conditioner it's very good at toning - just as good as most shampoos. But the stripped feeling it leaves isn't my favorite.

I really like this conditioner for toning down any brassiness in my hair, and on my fine, curly hair it is moisturizing but never heavy; it makes my hair soft and seems to help with curl definition. The smell is a nice subtle lavender scent that does not stay in the hair, so it does not compete with whatever other scents one wears.

The only blue conditioner that has minimal "cones". It works well to tone down brassiness and together with my Organic Connect Silver Shampoo it makes my bleached hair a gorgeous platinum colour. Lovely smell. On the down side it is not very moisturising and I wish Aveda would remove the "cones" all together.

I bought this to tone down the brass in the remaining colored hair that i have as i grow out my grey- it works fairly well, especially if i use some Roux " Fanciful Fawn " before drying. love the smell too !!

This is my usual, everyday conditioner.
My hair is not particularly challenged. A bit dry, baby fine and colored. For me, this has enough moisture for an everyday conditioner but I can understand that if your hair is really dry it may not be enough. I use the One and Only Argan moisturizing mask (HG!) once a week which probably helps.
The violet in Blue Malva helps a bit in keeping the brassy tones at bay, but unlike other reviewers I've never had a problem with too much color depositing. Presumably this is because my hair is less porous than others. Like all Aveda products it has a distinct scent so you definitely want to smell it before you buy it.
Overall, this is a reasonably priced, everyday conditioner for cool blondes who don't require major moisture on a daily basis.

This does wonders for toning my bleached hair but its not enough conditioning. But I keep buying it...besides its not for everyday so I can use a more nourishing conditioner the other days.

It does tone my hair and make it more silver. Unfortunately it doesn't help with how dry my bleached hair is. If I use it everyday (I have to put conditioner in my hair if it gets wet - water dries it out) my hair goes purple. So i only use it after bleaching my roots to tone the colour to silver-white.
far too dry to use often on my hair. May decide to just get the dutch drug store toners I used to use at 2 euros for a tiny bottle. much cheaper.
I do love the blue malva shampoo. It's just the condioner I'm not on fire about- although definitely brightening and does what it says on the tin, I'm taking off one lippie because is too drying and one because doesn't smell very nice, at all. worst smelling aveda product. which sucks cause aveda usually smells so nice.

I've dyed my hair black for 6 year and wanted to get back into range in my natural shade of blonde. It took copious amounts of bleach over a two month period, so you can imagine the state of my hair. The ends remained HORRIBLY brassy and I obviously didn't want to keep dying the ends to cancel it out. That said I really love this stuff! I can't say it's an ashy blonde but it blended with the roots of my hair very well and doesn't look like two different colors now. It took two uses for that effect, however there was a marked improvement after one use and my case is particularly severe. I don't think the price is horrible, but some don't agree. I think it's worth it. My hair is also very damaged, but I thought the moisturizing quality was just fine considering. Still on the fence about the shampoo but I don't think it's a bad shampoo, just unsure if it's doing what it claims because I bought the shampoo well before the conditioner so maybe it's best they're used together? Anyway, I have a liter bottle of the stuff and will keep using it.

I love the scent of these color conditioners. The Blue Malva really neutralizes unwanted brassy tones in blonde hair. Great to really brighten up highlights, and blondes.
You get better results from the color conditioners than you do from the shampoos, but the two work great in conjuction with each other.

I love Blue Malva conditioner to compliment the shampoo! My naturally, turned-platinum hair is so bright and less "grey" after using it. I've used other products like this when I was younger and red-haired (mostly Redken) and they did the job too.
I guess I have to say I'm a believer in the color depositing/accentuating conditioner. My new natural hair color was never quite this nice from blue shampoos alone.
Aveda has a lock on this shade--it's perfect for me. It's a keeper.
(And no more roots! I'm free of the 4-week appointment and attention to blending the color. This is big for me.)

I haven't read all of the reviews yet, but I'm chiming in as a salt & pepper hair person, with ever-increasing salt. :/ I'm 3b/3c curly, shoulder-blade length hair, which has a tendency to be dry. I CO wash every other day, so I have only used the BM conditioner. I use it approximately once every 6-8 weeks. Could I use it more? Sure! But I find it drying, so I don't use it more frequently than that. It definitely brightens and whitens my white/gray hairs. As a matter of fact, the last 2 times I've used it, DH and my teen DS both said to me that my gray is really showing and it's pretty; they didn't know that I'd used the BM that day. I apply it generously to my hair to make sure that I cover all of my hair and have enough to work it through. I've used it as a CO wash this way and it's more drying than regular conditioner for sure. Today I applied it as a first wash, then I used my conditioner-of-the-week after that, to give a bit more moisture. That helped, but really just added a little more moisture this way. That's why I give it 4 lippies; I would prefer the product more if it was more moisturizing for my hair. I've thought about adding a bit of honey to the BM when I use it, but have not tried that yet. Yes, it's expensive but I don't use it that often so one tube lasts me a year for sure, probably longer (tube has the 24 mo. symbol on it).

I am so pleased with this product. I have been using it for about a year to tone down brassiness but honestly I was never impressed with it and wasn't sure it was working. I would just put it in my hair in the shower and rinse out after 5 minutes or so. Now I'm in Korea, where toner is very hard to come by and even after getting my hair lightened and toned, it is still orange-y and looks awful. My desperation drove me to repurchase this product and I've been using it differently than before. This is what worked for me: I wash my hair, then towel dry it, then work a lot of the product in my hair, then cover with a shower cap and leave on for about 45 minutes. Then I rinse it out and follow up with a deep conditioner, since it's not enough on its own to condition my dry hair. Works like a charm!

Wow! This stuff works great. I recently had my dark brown hair colored with caramel and dark blonde highlights and some of the caramels turned an orangish-red and blondes turned a little yellow. I didn't want to ruin my hair by having it re-colored so I decided to try the Blue Malva conditioner. I was skeptical at first bc one lady told me it might turn my hair green and another said it was only for blonde hair. But I decided to try it out anyway and it calmed down my orange towns and brassiness. I think it darkened my blondes a little bit giving it a more subtle look which is what I was wanting in the first place! I am definitely impressed with the product and recommend it for anyone that wants to get rid of their brassy tones.

I love love LOVE this product! After complaining to my stylist about how very brassy my haircolor gets in between appointments, she recommended this. After my first use, only leaving it on for maybe 5 minutes, my hair was unbelievably soft and the color was amazing! Later that day, someone actually asked me if I had my color done!...and it was man! There must have been an obvious difference for him to have noticed! I love this conditioner and I will cry if it's ever discontinued!

If you leave this conditioner in your hair for about 10 minutes, it really sucks all of the brassiness out. I love this product for keeping me platinum.
