At first, I loved these products. My hair felt clean, smelled LOVELY and was bouncy and durble. I also saw a difference in my hair colour, it toned down the red shades of my hair, which I loved (even my friends noticed it, so I don't think I imagined it haha). After a few weeks I started noticing an increase in the amount of split ends in my hair, even though my hair is normally of very good quality (I get my hair cut often, never dye it, only rarely straighten or blow-dry it etc.). It just made my hair very, very dry and brittle. Had to stop using it and get a haircut. Will never repurchase.

My hair hates the shampoo and conditioner. It gets oily after 1 day! It usually starts to get a bit oily after 2-3 days with normal shampoo. My hair felt drier and I did not see any changes in my hair color at all. It smells good though.
But it did not work well with my hair, maybe because of the perfume in it.

This is a review for the "Daily" version of the shampoo and the "Moisturizing" version of the conditioner. I have used these products for the last 4 or so years, trying other products in between but always coming back to these. They are my hg, based on everything I've tried. For the record, I have fine (texture) but medium-thick (amount of hair) hair with dry, damaged ends and a sensitive, oily scalp. I'm also prone to a flaky scalp caused by seborrheic dermatitis.

Pros:
Leaves my hair thoroughly cleansed, thick-feeling, and bouncy, yet soooo incredibly soft and shiny.
Smells delish, like cocoa, caramel, and sweet almond oil. And the scent lingers! I'm normally sensitive to scents but this one is just the right amount.
Doesn't irritate my sensitive scalp, like so many other hair products.
Moisturizes my dry damaged ends but still lets me go an extra day without washing my oily scalp (a miracle in and of itself).
Seems to help bring out my natural golden highlights.
I love the giant pump packaging! 10 bucks and it lasts for 6 months of every other day use, and I have long hair.

Cons:
Seems to be getting harder and harder to find the "Daily" version of the shampoo. I hope they don't d/c! The moisturizing is too heavy and drying (ironic, eh?)

PSA: if anyone tries this and it doesn't quite work the first 1-3 times, keep trying. It took me about a week the first time to "work" ... at first it felt kind of weird and heavy. But by use 3 it delivered the above mentioned results. Also, this does build up after awhile so make sure to clarify every so often. :)

First off, this stuff will not do anything for your hair color. There is no shampoo that I know of that will 100% take care of colored hair. It's just a matter of finding the least harsh, and most nourishing/moisturizing shampoo you can find and keeping up with the six-week color rule.

That said, the John Frieda color line did make my hair soft, shiny, and it smelled amazing. Like with all shampoos, it eventually began to build up a little, so I switched to a different brand, and got pretty much the same results. So while the color aspect of it is 100% gimmick, it is a great regular shampoo nonetheless.

My mom got me to try this shampoo and conditioner and I love them! the smell is AMAZING, my boyfriend compliments me on the smell after every shower lol. My hair had been looking a little dull and this put the shine back and makes my natural highlights stand out.

For a time I used to use this religiously.
I always purchased it at Target. It was kind of annoying that they rarely had the "shine release","original", or "Liquid shine" in sets. They always had a mix and match variety. Perhaps this was just a defect at my local Target and not the fault of John Freida.

I do think the shampoo and conditioner brought out reddish tones in my hair, and over all the color did seem richer. Also the product smells very clean (not like pantene clean,a different kind of clean). On the downside it only comes in 8 ounce bottles, so for girls with medium/long and/or thick hair it is not convenient. You either have to stock up on a few bottles or you have to go to Target every 10 days to purchase more.

The product didn't seem to do anything in terms of moisturizing my hair or making it healthier, but as I recall it doesn't make any promises in that regard.

It's not the worst product out there, but you can do better.

I am kind of in the middle concerning this product. Lately, my hair has been really dry and I had been using the Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Shampoo and Conditioner nonstop so I wanted a break from it since it was starting to lose its effect on my hair and then I saw this. I thought it would bring my "blah" brown hair to life without me having to dye it and it kind of did but not in the way I'd been hoping it to. It made my hair a little bit darker, which wasn't what I'd been looking for, but at the same time it still livened up my locks and gave me results.
The only thing I didn't like was that it didn't do anything about my hair's dryness, but it's not geared towards dryness, so my expectations weren't high at all.
Overall, I would purchase it again just because it kind of did what I wanted it to- it made my hair less "blah."

I have used both shampoos for brunettes in this line. One is a shiny brown, you would think it would be so great on my dark brown hair, but eh, nothing to write home about. The other is a more pearly looking one, though also for brunettes. Same review for both and the conditioner. I have very dry hair and these were just not moisturizing enough for me. The bottles are large so I am still trying to use them up so as not to waste them but they are so so at best. They aren't any worse than many shampoos I've tried but I expected some benefit to my hair since I'm a brunette but the color isn't effected, or made shinier in my case.

This product is not for me, unfortunately, since the scent is really nice and lingers in my hair. I have coloured treated hair and this stuff strips it right out. I use the moisturizing formula and it leaves my hair incredibly dry, not moisturizing at all. The dryness is so bad that my hair squeaks when I try to run my fingers through the knots. Even my cousin who has virgin hair had trouble with it stripping the natural oils in her hair making it feel like straw. Not a good sign since her hair was normal to begin with. The second and third ingredients are pretty harsh foaming agents from what I've read, which is probably what contributes to the dryness. So no I will not repurchase.

I would have loved a great scent to it but the scent is ok not bad. I love the way it leaves my hair. It looks with shine, extra color dimension and salon look to it. It's worth every penny in my eyes. Also, does moisturize well for my thick hair which is a plus.

Well, I bought the shampoo and conditioner when I dyed my hair a dark brown and got paranoid about it fading. Ive been happy about John Freida products and it was their newest and looked promising so I chose it. .
Yes, my hair stayed dark brown, only fading a tiny bit over time which is expected BUT after using it for about 2 months and then taking a trip to my hair dresser of 6 years, she told me it was the dryest my hair has EVER been. Which is particularly interesting because i have been platinum blonde for a period of time.
I switched shampoos and conditioners that I am very happy with and will not recommend or repurchase this shampoo or conditioner.

After years of Pantene and store-brand products, I finally decided to dip my toe in the water of higher-price products with this line (and also with some Nexxus products). I alternate using this line and the Nexxus Dualiste line. Overall since making this switch away from cheaper brands, my hair condition has improved dramatically (seriously, it's amazing). I have thick, coarse, over-dyed hair (stubborn grays), and since the switch, my hair feels like *hair* again.

While I think both the product lines contribute to this, I can tell now that the Brilliant Brunette is really making the most difference. My friends keep commenting on how shiny my hair is; the texture and manageability is better than it has been in years.

If like me you've been buying the $2 products and just eyeing this stuff, go for it. It's worth the price upgrade.

I come back to this S&C again and again. I've strayed now and again because I am a sucker for trying new product, but I always find my way back to Brilliant Brunette. I've tried all of the different formulations and love them all. I usually use the Shine Release Shampoo and the Moisturizing Conditioner. The result? Shiny, smooth, soft healthy hair. Not to mention vibrant and rich in colour. I colour my hair at home, and this S&C combo keeps my chocolate brown hair rich and never brassy. I will keep coming back to this combination again and again.

My hair:
Oily at roots dry on the ends
Long
Extremly Thick
Wavy

I usually use Sunsilk Hydra TLC and it was okay, but I like this better.Even after conditioning[I left it in for 5 minutes until I rinsed] my hair ended up stiff after I took it out of my towel. With this my hair was so soft afterwards.I usually will put it up until I blowdry it, but this Im leaving it down. I love this shampoo and conditioner and will continue to buy it.
