I was quite pleased with this brush as an eyeliner until I started experimenting with other Stila brushes. It gives a soft focus eyeliner effect as it doesn't pick up much colour, but I have found the #28 smudge pot brush and the #15 brush are more effective for a more defined eye. It doesn't really work used wet as it doesn't hold the moisture. The pointy end of the #14 brush is much better for this as it is denser and picks up more pigment when wet. As with all Stila brushes, the quality is great and stands up well to washing.

This brush is fantastic for applying powder eyeshadows especially for a smokey look or for use on the lower lashline. I've used this brush with gel eyeliners as well, although it doesn't deliver a precise thin line like the #13 brush it does give a thicker smudgier application. This brush is also great for picking up pigment from my pencil eyeliners, like from my MAC Powerpoints and Shu Drawing pencils. I have more control in applying my eyeliner with this brush than directly from pencil. I can apply a pigmented line to my eye and also use this same brush to smooth and smoke it out. Makes my life a lot easier! Though this brush is not as old as my other Stila brushes (bought my short handle #4 brush sometime in 2003) it still holds up very well. Has never shed or splayed. I love the quality of Stila brushes and have a feeling that this brush well be with me for a good decade before I have to replace it. Though I would run to the store to replace it immediately if I were to lose it.

By far my favorite eyeliner brush. I use it mostly for BB gel liners, but also for using shadows as line. I had bought the BB brush that was specifically for the gel liners, but it just didn't work right for me. Now i use that one to smudge and this one to line. Really gives me the most precise line, not too thick, not too thin...just right :) And I bought it at Stila's warehouse sale so the price was right!

love this brush. love. I use it with my stila smudge pots and my MAC fluidliner pots (not yet tried it with dry eye shadow, but will after reading one person’s review). I have great control and precision with this; I can vary whether I want a fine or thicker (or graduated) line by how I hold and use it. it’s firm but it doesn’t drag the skin. my only suggestion would be to have a lid or capso i can put it in my cosmetics bag without worrying it will get damaged.

This was given to me as an RAOK from a lovely MUA'er and I'm very happy with it! It's great to use with gel eyeliners but it's also good for lining with powder eyeshadow. I gave this a four out of five though because no matter how you hold the brush you will always get a relatively thick line, and sometimes I like a much thinner and subtle line - I guess I'll stick to Bobbi Brown's Ultra Fine eyeliner brush for that. Otherwise it's an excellent brush.

I purchased this brush a few years back and never really find myself using it. I have tried to use it with gel eyeliner several times, but find it hard to create the precise ultra-thin line I like, given the thickness and flimsiness of the brush. I find I do much better with super skinny liquid liner brushes or firmer synthetic brushes when I want to get a precise ultra-thin line. However, I suppose this soft natural-hair brush might work well for those who like a more obvious eyeliner look or want a smudged smokey look.

I've been using this brush for my Stila Smudgepot, to apply eyeshadow as a liner (wet brush), and to apply MAC fluidlines. I love it! I think it's much easier to use than the MAC #266 - then again, this was my first e/l brush and it's what I'm used to.

I bought this to use with my BB gel eyeliner and it works pretty well. Obviously, I had to play around with it a little bit to get the most precise and defined line, and the best way to do this is to use the side of the brush. I'd still like to try the BB ultra fine eyeliner brush, but until I get a lot of extra cash this will do just fine.

I bought this based on some of the good reviews listed on this site and I'm very happy that I did. I like it a better than my BB ultra fine e/l brush that I bought to use with BB gel eyeliner. It seems to be a little more flexible but not wimpy.

Didn't think this worked any better than the brush I bought from an art store long ago for the smudgepots. What a waste of money!

This is the perfect brush to use for the smudge pot. The brush is very soft (unlike the flat brush) which is great because it does not hurt my eyes. It creates different kinds of look i.e. thin or thick line.

My favorite Stila brush. This review is for the short handled silver version. I love short handled brushes the best, because I find them so much easier to work with, you can really get in there and be close to the mirror. I bought this to use with my Stila smudge pot, but find it has other uses as well. I really like using it wet with e/s to line. It is a fairly unique brush in my opinion you can work with it in a variety of ways and achieve either a super fine or rather thick line. Great investment.

Stila #4 brush is a unique brush for lining a smokey eye with deeptoned shadows dry and/or wet. I'm delighted to have this brush in my repertoire. A "must" for
Stila smokey eyes.

Nice brush. Just the right balance of softness and stiffness for applying dark eyeshadow as eyeliner.

Yep, this brush is great. Such a good size and feel. I got the short handled one so it's very easy to control. It lets you do either a thin line or thick line with the same brush. I've heard it is a must for the Smudge Pots but I haven't tried them yet. I wish it was cheaper, but hey, I wish most things were cheaper.

My brush packaging calls this the Precision Eyelining brush but is still #4 so I don't know if they changed the name or what. But anyway, I got this to use with my new Stila Smudge Pot and let me tell you, it is PERFECT! I was hesitant to get a Smudge Pot because I have heard some people say that they couldn't get the hang of applying BB gel liners or couldn't find the right brush, etc. So when I chose this brush, I also checked out several other e/l brushes including a couple from BB, a push brush from UD, and others. I settled on this one because it had what seemed to be the perfect brush tip for applying gel e/l. I have to say that it made the application a BREEZE compared to what I thought it would be! It is soft but firm enough to grab the gel and I can vary the depth of my e/l according to the pressure I apply to the brush. And I can make a thin or thick line with this brush. The ONLY thing I don't like about it is that I wish it were a little shorter. I like to put my eyes very close to the mirror when applying e/l and sometimes the end of the brush bumps the mirror. But other than that, I KNOW I made the right decision with this brush!

An excellent eyelining brush - allows me to line precisely or slightly thicker, as I desire. I got the short handled one, so that I could get in closer to the mirror. I LOOOVE this brush!!

IMO, this is the best eye liner brush ever (it also works great as a lip brush). I have this in both sizes (a small one fits perfectly in my 8 pan). I love this brush mainly for control. It is great for use with eye shadow, both wet & dry. I have tried many other styles of eyeliner brushes, but I like this one because you can do both precise & smokey lines. Plus, the price isn't too bad either.
