Age: 25-29   Skin: Combination, Fair, Warm   Hair: Red, Wavy, Coarse   Eyes: Hazel

As a foundation, I would give this a 3. As a concealer, I would give this a 5. So, I split the difference.

About My Skin: Combination - The area on and around my nose is moderately oily, my cheeks are incredibly dry, and everywhere else is pretty normal.

Coverage: Not entirely full coverage in one thin layer, but pretty close. If using all over your face as a foundation, I wouldn't recommend more than a single thin layer as it will look obvious. However, using as a concealer in small areas (with a brush), I can use two... even three layers and it looks great (leaving about 30 seconds to dry in between layers). I have yet to have a blemish that I couldn't completely cover with this (I don't get outbreaks very often, but when I do, they're quite bad).

Wear Length: INSANE! At least 12 hrs with no fading.... probably longer if needed. I have problems with most foundations & concealers melting and wearing away quickly in the Florida summer heat and humidity, but not this one! It really is waterproof too... I've swam with it in a spring and came out with 95% of it still on.

Finish: Personally, I would call this matte. When using all over the face as foundation, I find it to look a bit unnatural and heavy (but then again, I feel that way about ALL full coverage foundations)

Texture: A rather thin water-based liquid. Unfortunately, it's very drying and accentuates flaky skin, which is it's major draw back for me. Doesn't bother me when using as a concealer though because the areas I need extra coverage in aren't dry or flaky (usually just underneath eyes and on the occasional blemish). It also dries very fast, which is GREAT if using it as a concealer in small areas (only have to wait 30 seconds in between layers). However, if using as an all over foundation you'll have to work fast to get it to blend well.

Packaging: A little messy (the foundation tends to squeeze out the top leaving the inside of the cap and the top of the bottle covered in dried foundation)

Bottom Line: HG Concealer! Truly Waterproof! I don't recommend using as as foundation though unless you have normal to oily skin with no dry patches or flakes at all.

Officially obsessed with this foundation. I was skeptical at first because of the price. But I went to my local Nordstrom counter and got a sample first. I am a pale asian and have yellow AND pink undertones. My color is SP50 (I was surprised too but it actually matches very well). I have oily skin during the day and my makeup "melts" off easily. However I haven't ran into any issues with this foundation at all. The area around my nose gets very very red (I have bad allergies) and the redness becomes more obvious during the day with other foundations. I've been pleasantly surprised with this Shiseido one. I only have to touch up concealer around my nose area once. No powder needed at all. It is matte but not cakey. The only downside is that I think I use more product due to the liquid consistency (I really like the consistency of it by the way). It's also a little pricey so I recommend getting color matches and grabbing a sample to try before purchasing. I would also like to point out that I have sensitive acne prone skin and I haven't bad any issues with breaking out. IMPORTANT: Be sure to use an oil cleanser in addition to your regular cleanser to remove this foundation. It's long wearing so you don't want it getting stuck in your pores due to poor cleansing. I use Shiseido's Perfect Oil followed by Perfect Whip and they work effortlessly to remove all the foundation residue. Anyways, I would definitely repurchase again! THE SPF IS GREAT, and that in itself is worth it!

I have been putting off this review because I wanted so badly to write a good one, so i just keep trying the product. But I just don't like it.

I do think it is good for my oily skin and it dosent break me out but I just cant seem to get it blend nicely into my skin and i don't find it has amazing coverage however i am still going to keep using it, just probably wont re-purchase it.

This product does not offer much coverage, and does not stay on very long, yet there is still something that makes me love it. Maybe it's just my unexplainable passion for Shiseido products. Anyways, I like this foundation, but I can understand why most people wont.

This was first high end sun screen product, which I admit it's an excellent for oily/dry combination skin. It's a milky substance that doesn't have that strong sun screen smell. The product goes on smooth and is easily absorbed by the skin to leave a dewy feel and doesn't leave a white tint on the skin. It's doesn't have that sweaty feeling on the skin and you do need to reapply every two hours to maximize the sun screen properties. It doesn't clog the pores like most products do and it's blends in with the makeup.

It's a bit pricey but if you are looking for a good product for oily/dry combo skin, give this a try.

This foundation looks very natural and doesn't look cakey at all. It has a high SPF and gives a matte finish all day long. Doesn't setlle into lines or pores. I mix it up with a bit of moisturizer because it dries up very fast and apply with my fingers.I definitely recommend.

This really doesn't cover too well and doesn't feel good when I have it on. It doesn't match my skin TOO well but it's not incredibly noticeable when I have it on. It emphasizes dry patches! I dont think the product itself aggravates acne but it stays on so well that washing it with oil cleansers VERY thoroughly still leaves residue :( I was warned this and made sure I washed it very well but I STILL ended up with 2 cystic pimples -__- and mind you, I rarely break out. UGH going to return this and find something else.

After reading reviews, I really wanted to try this foundation. I am sure it has many great properties, but it just didn't work for me. For starters, it dries very quickly. Tried to apply it with a sponge, then a flat brush and the 3 rd time I tried with my fingers. None seemed to really blend very easily, but I didn't really try too much harder because the color selection is awful. I am a NC25-30 and I purchased the SP40. The color was too light and the step up is too dark and pink. This bummed me out after reading all the reviews how blendable and natural it looked. This also photographs horribly due to the high SPF content. I will be returning this.

So, of course when I finally find a foundation I LOVE it immediately becomes discontinued! No, not this Shiseido foundation, but rather Boots No7 Lifting and Firming Foundation.

There I was, in a hurry, as usual, but knowing how simple it was going to be to just pop into my local Target and pick up a bottle of foundation. I knew that I needed to go one shade lighter, because, at this point it was February, and I was having to carry the Blonde shade I was currently wearing down my neck, which I dislike having to do. My usual goal is to wear a foundation that is a good compromise between my face (which I religiously wear a strong sun block on) and my chest/decollete which gets spf 15 or 20 throughout the summer "sun" months.

Imagine my dismay and confusion when I make a beeline to the Boots shelves in the cosmetics section of Target, only to find EMPTY shelves! Really? I looked around the department for a minute, thinking they were rearranging the store, which they just had done the previous year, and I was irritated. First Target had to rearrange everything, then my favorite grocery store, and now Target was doing it again??... no... no Boots cosmetics anywhere. I went back to the shelves where the makeup had been, and noticed a small sign stating that Boots was getting a "new look" to be on shelves Spring of 2013. "Spring"??? how vague is that! and I needed foundation then, right then in February, not months down the road.

Once again I needed to find a foundation I loved.

It finally happened—after several attempts.

At first I wasn't completely on a genuine hunt, because I (wrongly) assumed my foundation would be back on the shelves, after Boots had its little makeover. Then, I saw on MUA that it was discontinued! So, my search began in earnest.

I won't bore you with all of the foundations I sampled. Suffice it to say, I tried a LOT! I ended my search with this Shiseido gem. and am very happy with it so far. It does darken slightly when it dries, I wouldn't really call it oxidation, because I always equate oxidation with that awful orange shade some foundations can unfortunately turn, but, as it is a "low transfer. long wear" type foundation, it does darken when dry.

I have dry skin, and have had no problems with it accentuating it, or wrinkles. It wears extremely well, and has a high enough sunblock to where I have actually worn it without sunblock under it, and have not gotten any color after being outside for several hours in the sun, So far, after only a couple of weeks of wear, I love it very much. It isn't too matte, I don't have that dead flat look to my skin. A big plus is that it doesn't get my cell phone all smeary. It lasts all day til I take it off, and basically, so far its all good.

BTW, I will add a couple of separate reviews for some of the foundations I tried before settling on this Shiseido, I don't know that I"m going to get around to it tonight, but will try to get them in soon.

Tips on applying... Well I've not used it long enough to have that much of an opinion, but, I do like to apply with fingers, and have a damp sponge ready to touch up any areas that look a bit thick, or whatever. There is a sponge that is sold with the foundation, and even though I own a beautyblender sponge, I've not used it with it so far, as I'm quite happy with how it looks with just my fingers.

It does need to be shaken well before applying.

I am adding two photos comparing several brands of foundations in similar shade swatches. One photo is foundation on a white paper towel, the other swatched on inside of my arm, which is a bit pink from running the hairdryer on it trying to hurry up the drying process for foundations, so it is a bit skewed due to that, but, it still should give a good idea how SP50 in this foundation compares, color wise to a few other brands that I had at home.

I purchased this product a year ago (summer time) i was looking for a light foundation for the summer with spf. I have to say that this entire year i have tried various different foundations along with using this one...maybelline, colorstay, tarte, chanel....and i find myself ALWAYS going back to this one. You really can't beat the way it feels on your skin. It's so light, and spreads like silk, i never have any problem blending this foundation or looking cakey. This stuff glides on and does not move. When i first purchased it i thought the bottle was so small!! but a year later i still have plenty. You really don't need much to cover your face. I would say this is a medium coverage, for reference i wear shade sp60 and im an NC-35-40 in MAC.
LOVE this stuff, i will definitely repurchase when i run out!!

Love this foundation for the spring/summer.
It's runny, but super blendable, and you only need a small amount to cover your whole face.
I like to use a damp beauty blender with this foundation; it applies beautifully. I don't have oily skin, so I don't use primer or powder with this. My skin is dry, and powder usually makes me look even more dry and sometimes even cakey.
I love the fact that this foundation has a high SPF, but since you probably won't use enough of it to really get the benefits of the SPF, I recommend a moisturizer with sun protection.
As for coverage, this foundation evens out the redness in my cheeks really well and blurs my imperfections. I still use a little bit of concealer under my eyes and on a few scars though.

This is one of those strange cases where the application method makes a huge difference. I have so far found that the best to apply it is with a sponge, and from what I've seen and heard, others tend to agree. It gives you the most natural and long-lasting finish.

The foundation is excellent because of the sun-screen it contains. For people with oily combination skin like me, this is a bless because you don't need to put on an extra layer of sun-screen in the summer before you put on foundation. The foundation also stays well on your face--more so if you apply with a sponge. The packaging is also excellent--air-tight plastic container. Chic and portable. Great for travelling.

My only complain is the range of color selection. I've tried SP40 and 50. 40 is a bit orangy and 50 is a bit too pale and yellow. If Shiseido makes an effort to perfect the color selection without changing the formula, chances are that a lot of people will be thrilled.

I have hormonal acne (not a little bump here and there but lots of bumps and occasional cysts and redness around my jawline and some on my cheeks) and I have creasy eyelids with dark circles. So I am always on the hunt for a foundation that will cover the acne/ dark circles/ imperfections without caking. The problem with most full coverage foundations is that they are thick or even if they aren't thick they settle into my fine lines. So some full coverage foundations work well for covering the acne but because they are so full coverage they end up settling into lines and pores. I have to apply my makeup to my whole face because I use full coverage and it looks funny with no foundation in some areas and full coverage in others. I have marionette lines (smile lines around my mouth) and fine lines under my eyes. I am only 24 so these are not major lines BUT most full coverage foundations make them look like like major lines. I am a esthetician/makeup artist ( since I was 18) and have worked many places where I have access to numerous brands of foundations so I have tried A LOT of them. I have tried them with and without primer, with and without setting powders, with and without setting sprays, etc. and NOTHING compares to how AMAZING the SHISEDIO SUN PROTECTION LIQUID is. I have tried Chanel perfection lumier ( not enough coverage or staying power- but great finish), Lancome tent idol ultra -(Great finish not enough coverage), dermablend (great coverage but looks fake and cakey and smudges off if you touch your face), estee lauder double wear (great coverage but looks fake- too matte and cakey- settles into lines), revlon color stay (overall horrible foundation- too thick, didn't cover blemishes, cakey), bare minerals ( horribly powdery looking and settles in to lines badly if you try to build to full coverage), napoleon perdis china doll (OK coverage- too drying- colors made me look dull- settles into lines- looks heavy), benefit hello flawless liquid and powder (great finish- no staying power, settles into lines very quickly- not enough coverage), smashbox hd foundation (not enough coverage, settles into lines), taste amazonian clay foundation (never feels like it sets, no color that matched me, accentuates blemishes, settles badly into lines because of it mousy consistency).... the list goes on and on and on (some of them were not even good enough to mention)...

I LOVE the Shisedio foundation!!!! I love the semi- matte (yet "lit from within") finish that I can add a highlighter to when I am done and look perfect and glowy. This foundation has GREAT coverage but it is such a thin liquid that it never looks cakey. It does not settle into lines or pores at all but instead makes them appear less! This foundation looks like my skin (if I had perfect skin) not like makeup. Being an Esthetician I am all about sunscreen and this one has SPF 42!!!! It is a hidden gem. When you go looking for foundation this one would not stand out. It is at the Shiseido counter (which many people don't even know what Shisedo is) and it is hidden with their sun care line (the blue bottles)not the makeup line.

How I apply- I always have my skin prepped by cleansing, exfoliating, and moisturizing. I then apply Too Faced primed and poreless primer all over my face. Next, I apply a small drop of Shiseido sun protection liquid to the back of hand and use my fingers to apply and thin even layer all over my face. in the meantime I do my eye makeup and when I am done with that I go back and apply one more little drop to the back of my hand and use my real techniques expert face brush to stipple/ blend into the areas where I need a little more coverage. I don't use a concealer with this foundation because it has plenty of coverage and the perfect finish on its own. I usually always set my foundation with a powder but this one doesn't even need it. The coverage is amazing and doesn't need added coverage with a powder, it stays put without a powder, and the finish of it on its own it so nice I wouldn't want to change that by adding powder. I use the color SP20- for reference I am between NC15 and NC20 in MAC- pretty fair with yellow undertones. When I am done with foundation I use Tarte bronzer in "park ave. princess" or Benfit "hoola" bronzer, a Benefit or Lorac blush, and Benfit's "Watt's Up" highlighter and some lipgloss for a complete look.

SImple put the pros and cons are :

PROS:
-GREAT coverage
-Doesn't settle in to lines or pore
-Makes skin look perfect
-Not too matte- and not too dewy
-Stays on ALL day (its waterproof!)
-Great SPF! (SPF 42!!!)
-Looks like a perfect SKIN -not like you have on makeup

CONS:
-Color range is limited (but I found my perfect color :) )
-Strong smell at first (a good smell and I don't mind it one bit- but some might)

This foundation would work well for all skin types. Young and mature, acne or no acne, dry or oily. TRY IT OUT!!! ITS AMAZING!!!

This foundation is pretty close to perfect for me. It has a similar consistency to the Chanel Vita Lumiere Aqua foundation, but provides all the coverage that I wish that Vita Lumiere had. This foundation is definitely a full-coverage foundation with a semi-matte finish. Although my skin is incredibly oily, I tend to stray away from fully matte finish foundations simply because I prefer my complexion to look natural and radiant. Because the foundation has such great coverage, you only need to use the smallest amount of it (which also means it lasts twice as long).

I like to apply this foundation with my fingers, then blend with a Beauty Blender for a flawless, natural finish. I also really like the fact that is has SPF 42. It's also incredibly long-lasting. For reference, I use the shade SP60 in the late Fall/Winter and SP70 in the warmer months (Mac NC30 in winter, and NC35-40 in summer).

The only reason why I didn't rate this foundation 5 stars is because I find that it can transfer pretty easily, even after being set with a powder. Other than that, it's perfect for me.

I wanted to like this product SO badly, & I thought it would be amazing due to all of the reviews. However, I was not impressed. My drugstore foundation is a lot better...

Let me start off by saying that I have oily skin, a few pimples & some redness/scarring. First off, the consistency was a problem for me. It's so thin & runny, but somehow no matter how I apply this foundation it ends up looking cakey!! If you have perfect skin with no pimples, it may not look cakey. But if you have any lumps on your skin, it's cake central. No matter how little I apply, it's just cakey.

I've tried using fingers, a brush & a damp sponge. The sponge was the worst because I think it just soaked up the foundation, as when I tried to apply it it was like I had put nothing on my face. Another point of importance is the coverage. This is a full-coverage foundation, a fact which I dislike. It just looks so unnatural... I prefer sheer-medium coverage.

As for the oil control, I was expecting great things. However, this did not live up to the hype at all. By the end of the day I looked like I'd dipped my face in oil. It was literally my entire face. That doesn't usually happen.

So to conclude... I give this foundation 2 stars because it's pretty much unwearable & therefore definitely not worth the money. I am extremely disappointed in this oily & hard-to-work-with foundation.

Other random notes:
- It dries extremely fast, so you have to work fast.
- It's very difficult to remove, you need an oil-based makeup remover.
- I'm pretty sure it broke me out (must be the ridiculously high spf content).
- I also think it has whitening properties (even though the bottle doesn't say it) because I've noticed a HUGE difference in my redness from day 1 of using this.
- It has a strong sunscreen scent.
- You have to exfoliate your face really well because this foundation will cling to any dry patches & be even cakier than usual.
- I recommend this foundation for someone who is completely blemish-free & has normal to slightly oily skin.

This foundation is really good. It covers well without being thick, it blends easily and provides a natural look. Its texture is soft and thin and it contains spf 30 something which is a big plus! It offers a semi-matte result, the ideal for me. Though my skin is combo, I don't really like foundations that provide a totally matte result because they make skin look unnutural, dry and cakey.I can use this product without powder on top.
You have to shake it well before using. The packaging is also very convenient and easy to carry. This is one of my favourite foundations, after Chanel's Vitalumiere Aqua.

i want to start out by saying this is THE BEST foundation i have tried. I bought this because i was looking for a foundation that would not get all over my fingers when i touched my face and lucky for me the first one i tried happened to be exactly (well almost exactly) what i was looking for. Unfortunately the shade range is terrible and i am the palest of the palest of the pale so i kind of rely on there being a good shade range to get a match, but for some reason i decided to buy this foundation in probably about 4 shades too dark (aka their lightest shade), I mix it with a white foundation to get the right colour. the texture and coverage of this foundation is perfect and it goes on super easily with a brush or with my fingers, it dries pretty quickly so work fast, but once its dry it stays put - seriously i have to scrub my hands like crazy to get it off after i put it on. it doesnt need setting with a powder, but its not the end of the world if you do, ive done it and i prefer not to just because i like as few layers as possible and i find the powders transfers onto my fingers. i have dry-ish skin but it doesnt settle into my dry bits and look gross. its just the perfect foundation, if it was in a better shade.

I bought this founadtion after I read so many good reviews about it and I really needed a foundation with a high SPF for my summer trip to Italy. It is a good foundation it last the whole day on my fairly oily skin and I would compare the coverage to that of the Revlon Colorstay. The problem with this foundation is that the shade selection is quite poor (the place I went to only had 4 shades) and it can make your skin look a little orange.

Overall I wouldn't buy it again. It's too expensive and I think I will stick to my Revlon Colorstay for now. If I need SPF I will just use a moisturiser with a 24hour sun protection as a base before applying my foundation.

UPDATE REVIEW: Ok I was applying this wrong. I was wearing it over a sunscreen which obviously affected the way that this sat on my skin. I changed the sunscreen and now this foundation looks amazing, like a second skin. My skin looks flawless! I am truly amazed by the difference from how I used to wear it to how it looks now (for reference I was wearing Neutrogena Ultra Sheer SPF 70 underneath it, and I now switched to Josie Maran Moisturizer with SPF40, the untinted version). Will be rebuying this foundation and will be more careful in the future about what I wear underneath it...I can't believe the difference in the way this looks by changing one product.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: I don't dislike this foundation, but I don't love it either. It tends to just sit on my skin and doesn't blend in easily. I apply it with a foundation sponge and it just never looks like my skin, it always looks like I am wearing a full coverage foundation. It can also feel quite cakey too which I don't like. I love the fact that it has a sunscreen, but sadly this doesn't perform like I thought it would. I don't get a matte finish from it, more satiny, and although it lasts quite a while it doesn't last like Revlon's Colorstay foundation. I am disappointed in this but I will continue to use it because of the sunscreen until I find something better (or go back to Revlon).
