Wow, I am impressed with this dye.

My hair is naturally medium brown but I have been bleaching it for years so already when I coloured it, it was a light blonde.

Basically, I had roots regrowth and the underside of my hair needed brightening (to blonde). I picked 'Max Blonde' as it was the lightest of all the blonde shades. I was slightly worried it would come out 'platinum'/that horrible white colour but thankfully it didn't!

I left it on about 25 minutes and it came out the most realistic, natural blonde, I'm so pleased!

I usually mix up my own powder/bleach using Jerome Russell but this seems a lot better conditioning as Jerome Russell can sometimes seem a bit drying. Plus this was easier to get all the back/underside bits because it's more liquiddy in texture than the creamy/dry Jerome Russell.

Definitely will repurchase, for £4 you can't go wrong. This would cost me £100+ with the length of my hair in a salon!

Omg this stuff actually lightens your hair without bleeching it ! I've dyed my hair loads of time to lighten my hair as its naturally a dark brown colour. So I decided to ombré my hair and bought the platinum blonde colour and it worked !!!!!! I left it on for about 20mins and the results came out perfect considering I've used other hair dyes. Would highly recommend if u wana ombré dark hair.

I've used Schwarzkopf Live hair dyes for years; mainly I stick to the XXL Live range as the purple shades are my favourite, but I've also used the Live Luminance and Live Salon Style ranges. I sometimes try another brand when I fancy something 'sensible', but I always return to Schwarzkopf Live as I find them to be the most reliable for good results - the colour swathes on the boxes are the most reliable out of popular DIY har dye brands, such as Schwarskopf, L'Oreal, Garnier and Clarol.

In my ongoing hair colour journey only XXL Live Real Red has disappointed me, as though the colour turned out like the box's model, it faded very quickly. Yes, I know that red dyes are the fastest to fade, but Real Red still fades quicker then is usual for red; within a week my hair had dulled to a murky copper tone. The Live Luminance [Ultra Violet] shade I tried was underwhelming; not bad, but not great either - more pink/red, then violet.

"Meh" results aside, I have had much more hits then misses with Live; XXL Live's Max Blonde, Red Passion, Mystic Violet, Hypnotic Red, Glam Rock Black, Cyber Purple and Live Salon Style in Dark Violet are the shades I have fond memories off. They're all permanent shades, that haven't damaged my hair and all have left my hair shiny. The non-red shades all have minimal fade, in fact I often don't even need to bother with a colour protecting shampoo or conditioner, as the colour fade is so unnoticeable!

There is not much else to say; Schwarzkopf dyes are affordable when they're full priced, and there are often BOGOF or other money saving offers on them in Boots, Superdrug or Asda.

I have used XXL Live for years. I have tried Red Passion, Cosmic Blue, Red Black, Cyber Purple, Intense Red, Jet Black, Mystic Violet and Hypnotic Red. I have also used Absolute Platinum Max Blonde and Ice Blonde (When Lightening My Hair). Due to me changing my hair colour quite often I've noticed my hair can become dry after lightening mainly. To keep my hair healthy I use Loreal Elvive Colour Protect shampoo and conditioner. It keeps your hair in good condition after dying. I've noticed if you want a bright result you need to lighten your hair first. The real pain is getting the black out after using XXL Live to go another colour. You end up ginger a few shades later but I only lighten twice before putting another colour over it. Hope this helps :)

I have been using the colour Red Passion for a year now and I love it! Its a lovely shade of red, not too bright but still noticeable. Lasts for a long time. I have tried other brands in the past and have not been as satisfied as when I've used this. Would recommend.

I have natural ash blonde hair that was turning mousier as I was getting older. Not having any of it, I dyed my hair chocolate brown. Since then I've been through a rainbow of colours from black, to ginger, to plum, but this is the only hair dye which has actually suited me, and receives soooo many compliments :) I used the Passion Red colour, and have been using it for the last six months, and I can vouche for it 100%. The ammonia smell is quite strong, but seeing as I wear contact lenses, it didn't affect me much. Just be sure to open a window.
The gloves they give you are probably fashioned for mutants, because they are so large, so pick up some fitted latex gloves instead. The colour is slightly drippy, but as soon as it's on your head I've had no problem with it running down my neck/face. The conditioner they give you is INSANELY good, leaving your hair smelling lovely, shiny as hell, smooth and silky. The colour isn't as bright as on the box, but is richer and gorgeous. And I find myself only needing to re-dye it to cover my roots, because the colour hardly fades at all! Get so many compliments because of my fair skin/blue eyes/red hair combination. I've repurchased before, and I'm going to carry on doing so. Thanks, schwarzkopf! :D

Schwarzkopf live xxl max blonde

Overall I kind of like it!

2 weeks ago I was a chocolate brunette now I'm a brassy light blonde (going to tone it obviously) and it was fairly easy & inexpensive to get here!

Admittedly It took 2 applications to get to this light brassy stage.

(The first application turned orange.
The second a mix of peach and blonde)

but i must take into account the fact that my hair was very dark and very over processed! Plus I have bleached my sisters hair enough times to know you CANNOT avoid the brass do I can't blame the product for that.

Pros

It's fairly cheap & ALWAYS seems to be on offer, I got two for £8.

It doesn't ruin your hair, like I said, I've used this on 2 separate occasions in fairly rapid succession & my hair fine! It's a little dry but that's normal behaviour for my hair in the winter months so how much is the bleach and how much is the weather is hard to gauge. Either way it's nothing a deep conditioning or two won't fix!

Having said that my hair was in good condition anyway, so maybe that's why it was more resilient to the bleaching, what this product would do damaged or more delicate hair I can't say!

Cons
The consistency is gritty & thick making application hard! I thought I wouldn't have enough even though I had two and may hair is only an inch or so past my collar bones. I did but it was a struggle!

The smell, omg, I know it's chemicals so it's stupid to expect a pleasant smell but this is toxic. Ensure you're well ventilated the fumes are strong not too mention dangerous!

The gloves, pick up a separate pair because unless you have hands like a GIANT MAN they will not fit you. The are perforated and huge and make application all the more difficult.

Overall if you want to lighten your hair to that pale brassy stage you need to get to in order to tone it and what to do it as quickly as possible with minimum damaged than I would recommend this!

My hair is naturally black but very flat and dull with a slight brown undertone to it. I purchased the shade COSMIC BLUE which is basically a blue-black colour. I'll start off by saying that it is the least damaging dye I've come across, not to mention the colour is super intense and rich looking. The dye itself did not smell too harsh; I could smell a slight sweetness to it actually (I'm guessing the added pomegranate fruit extract they add to the formula).

The conditioner included was lovely...smelt gorgeous and left my hair ridiculously soft and shiny. I've never seen my hair so shiny and feel so smooth. As I mention later the colour it turned out was not what I expected, but I still really liked it! A nice deep velvety raven black. The day after I dyed it I bumped into a friend and she asked if I'd dyed my hair, when I told her yes she said it looked amazing and made my usual flat black colour much more "rich" looking. It's also pretty cheap as it's under £6 at Sainsbury's, and the colour itself lasts a good time without fading.

Onto the bad points; quite possibly one of the messiest dyes ever. Somehow it managed to get on my floors, windows, walls, tiles, towels...it also stained my legs, arms, chest, shoulders and hands really badly. It was just very runny and drippy, something which I don't like as I'm used to creme formulas such as L'Oreal Preference that don't make a mess. It left huge stains on my forehead (my fault for not using vaseline on my hairline, but tbh none of the other dyes I've used in the past have ever stained my skin even when they drip down off my hair onto my forehead/body...they just rinse off in the shower. But this one was another story) - I scrubbed at them with one of those japanese Salux clothes for 10 minutes and still had big blue-black stains across my forehead that lasted about 2-3 days.

Secondly, the colour was nowhere near as described/pictured on the box. There was no blue tone to my hair whatsoever, not even a slight tint in direct sunlight. I was initially very disappointed in that. And lastly it takes so long to wash out. I was in the shower rinsing my hair out for about 25 minutes and the water was still running purple. I still had dye running out after my second and third washes.

Despite the negatives I am pretty happy with the results and I can see myself repurchasing next time I have to dye my hair.

normally use a mix of 3.0 brown with 20%ammonia to cover greys (approx70%grey) My hair is very dark brown naturally but am sick of it looking so black. So went & bought the LIVE 3.60 dark mocha thinking the colour on the box was exactly what I wanted.
The 30% ammonia totally dried my hair out which never happens to my very oily hair, without changing its colour at all & my 3cm grey roots turned bright Xmas tinsel RED!? I now have to colour my dried out hair again with my old colour.
Nope never again thankyou Schwarzkopt!
NOT HAPPY! :(

I hate this mo-fo! I colour my hair a lot. So I decided to use LIVE hair dye in chocolate brown a few years back. I don't know *what* is in this formula but i had a full blown allergic reaction to it. My palms, torso, head went insanely itchy, red and irritated. I had to go on steroids, etc to stop the reaction. It was AWFUL!

In conclusion, I hate this product so much. It gives me nightmares to this day. I continue to use other hair dyes with no reactions. So wtf LIVE, wtf???!!!

ive used red passion and real red. they looked so nice on the box but when i dyed them, they came out a really orangey red which i really didnt like. but i but a semi permanent red over the top, and now my hairs a lovely colour. i use these to touch up my roots every month or so. the conditioner with these is amazing too and leaves your hair gorgeously soft.

First of all, if you can't stand ammonia smelling dye, don't buy it, it's intense.

I purchased Live Brilliance XL in Real Red. The color payoff was great, and it lasted 5 weeks for me. Application was simple and it came with a conditioner. My bathroom is not well ventilated, however, and I was feeling the ammonia burn in my lungs. I do love the colors though. And I did not have to bleach to get the color I wanted.

Well i am so happy and suprised with this product. Long story sort i went to the hair dresses to get my hair changed from platnum blonde to brown, $200 aus dollars later and i walked out with a faded brown. I was happy but thought i refuse to pay that money again any time soon, the whole reason i changed from blonde to brown was to save money and was over the monthly visit stuck at the hair dresses wasting my occassional day off... So after only 3 washed of this colour as expected it started to fade so i have researched and read about whats best colour to put in my hair... So went to chemist after much research and bout a garnier natural brown no amonia semi permanent .. One box for me and one for my sister to try she had just swapped to recently from golden blonde and was needing a new colour to brighten up her dull faded brown hair... Well my poor sister put the expensive $20 colour thru and she now has black hair... The poor thing was devastated.. So i trumped back to the pharmacy and thought what the hell can i get i thought they are all prob going to stuff up my hair so i bought the cheapest on the shelf Swarzcoph live natural brown... It cost me $7 for 2 packets. I came home and threw them thru my hair aftre a shampoo (literally threw them thru and just massaged it in with my hands)... I kept them in for 20 minutes then quickly rinced out expecting black or worse bright red or something. But much to my suprise i had a really pretty brown with a shine of red if standing under the lights.. But only a slight reflection of a red against the brown.. My hair felt amazing and was so so so so shiny, i starightened it and my hair looked better than the $200 stephens hair colour. So moral of the story ill keep using this product for the next few months till my hair takes to brown and maybe when i have some more money in the future ill go to the har dresser and get a permanent put thru and they can make sure that my hair isnt permanently died black.
Pleasently suprised for the price :-)

I have used this in a red shade (can't remember it's name) and also the Wild Lights version to put red/purple hightlights in my hair.

I really like it - it lasts longer than other dyes i have used, the colour stays fairly true for about 4 weeks which, for a red dye, isn't bad at all. The colour doesn't keep washing out either and it leaves little mess in my bathroom.

I've tried the platinum one a few times and have found it effective at giving an even ice blonde shade. My natural hair colour is medium-dark blonde, but I know people who have used the platinum shade on even dark brown hair successfully. I like the fact that it lightens up darker hair without requiring a separate pre-lightener. I've stopped using it, though, because it is so harsh - well, it needs to be to strip away colour so effectively, I suppose. A few of my friends have used the dark and red shades and they've reported that, although the colours looked vibrant, it wrecked their hair. I'd only recommend Live XXL if you have quite short hair because it's strong stuff!
Pros: gives strong colour, platinum version lightens hair well (so no pre-lightener is needed), fairly inexpensive
Cons: very harsh and drying

i use this to dye some of my extensions as work gets a bit narky about me having colours in my hair, and this way i can just take them out if they do. i love this colour, i use it on top of bleach blonde and it goes a really lovely dark but noticeable purple. ive used it twice now and will keep doing so. i imagine on darker hair the colour may not be so noticeable however.

I have just dyed my naturally dark brown hair with this in Cyber Purple. Ive also dyed my hair extensions with it too :) I was looking for a rich dark colour with purple tones in it.
I have to say I LOVE the colour! Its a nice dark/purple colour without being TOO purple, and looks shiny. My hair looked beautiful after I rinsed out and styled!
I have used this dye before though, I think it was in Black Red and it made my hair like straw and after a few washes faded and looked a bit tacky.
I only dyed my hair a few days ago so I am still waiting to see how long lasting the colour is, however I like it that much I will just re-dye when it fades too much.
I would recommend this if you want to try something a bit different on your hair, they have lots of bright and nice colours, depending on how this one weighs out, I may try Cosmic Blue next! :D xx

I've been using this in Cosmic Blue for a couple of years now & am quite happy with it.
When this dye first came out, I tried it & hated it. My roots ended up a strange, muddy colour with a slight blue tinge. I promptly went back to Feria. After a while, Feria started behaving oddly. I'd get random patches of hair halfway down that faded to a dark brown.
I happened across LIVE on offer & picked it up thinking I could try something else if it failed like last time I'd used it. Thankfully, they must have reformulated it since my first experience because it came out as I'd expect a blue-black dye to.
It's a rich, deep black with gorgeous blue tints. Usually I can't ever see the blue myself but I can with LIVE. Yes, it can fade a bit over time but I don't lose the blue hue completely (not something I could say with Feria). It leaves my hair feeling nice & soft & it looks shiny after dyeing too. Yet another point Feria fell short on, it left my hair looking dry.
The conditioner included is good too. Not so thick that it won't rinse out properly but it does what it's supposed to.
I'm happy to stick with LIVE as it gives me the colour I want without wrecking my hair.

I dyed my hair with the chocolate shade and it ended up turning out a lot darker than I expected, almost black. :(
Because of the uneasy application (no comb attached to nozzle) I also ended up with patchy parts on my hair which looks awful considering my hair was almost blonde (highlighted) before.
I'm happy that the color is a block colour rather than being multi-tonal and making my hair look ginger.
It also left my hair very very dry and dull looking. It now takes a LOT of conditioning to make my hair shiny.

Plus points - Gives a good, solid colour without looking red or ginger which most brown dyes give.
Bad points - Left my hair in bad condition.
