I agree with the previous reviewers - neither the Essence nor the gel used separately or together gave any positive long-term results. The Essence though gave the matte look right after I used it but not after I put moisturizer on. I would expect much more for their RP and the brand name.

essence is the water and to be used with the gel equilibrante.totally agree with the other reviewer.it does nothing, used the whole big bottle. i have oily skin and acne. will not buy it again

I honestly expected a lot more out of this product - being a high end brand and all. Texture-wise, it's a clear gel that is much like Sundari's version of an oil-balancer. It spreads nicely and I use it only on my t-zone in the morning. I find that while it makes my t-zone feel a little more matte, it's nothing really noticable. Shiseido's mattifying stick is by FAR better than this, and it has a beautiful velvety texture to boot!
