I have received this scent as a sample more than ten times. Over several years, of course, but still. It seems to be one of those perfumes that you get for free, it has always been in my house but I have never bought it. And I never will.
I think giving out so many samples of this has been a mistake, whenever I smell this on someone I think she must be out of her usual perfume and is using up her samples.
Anyway, the smell itself isn't all bad, sure it smells a bit old lady like, but not in a bad way. If I hadn't been over exposed to it in the nineties, maybe I would have liked it better.
Reviewing this because I received another sample of it the other day.

Poeme is the 'One'! Poeme is my Signature Winter Scent! My one and only during those cooler months!
Poeme makes me exude confidence! It enhances your femininity, transports you to that special place where you feel the happiest! It's such an original scent, heavy yet not stifling, long lasting yet not offensive - it's truly perfection personified!

Well, this is just perfection. It is a Holy Grail of Lancome's perfumery. So unique and distinct - it is unmistakeable und uncomparable, so full-bodied and self-sufficient, that no other single note could possibly make it better. So feminine, that one can hardly fully appreciate it before reaching mid-20s at least, and this is hardly for someone who yet has not enjoyed the emotional rollercoaster of romance and stumbled upon the Real Deal on one of those rides. This fragrance says - I am in love, I am complete and I have arrived. Being the ficklest and most insatiable perfume junkie, I actually had to say this first in my head before writing in pure disbelief that I were even considering this, but yes, this could be THE ONE perfume I could see as my signature scent. I have worn this in good times and bad times, and every time it just makes me feel so happy, so satisfied with life and powerful as a woman! I think this is the antidote to feeling needy or insecure. I think of icons like Sophia Loren or Elizabett Taylor when I sniff it, and oh how I wish I were the only one who knew about Poeme!!:)

Poeme imprints really strongly. It's one of those scents that is utterly recognizable and totally 'itself' - whether this is for good or ill! It's a pretty, plush and rather heavy vanilla-floral. I find it cheerful and quite comforting, especially as colder days come on, but be prudent with the dosage.

Poeme is about simplicity and comfort. It's the perfume I want to wear when everything feels like it's getting a bit much - I want to retract into myself and heal emotionally.
Nothing fights for your attention with this perfume, nothing in particular stands out. It's simple and beautiful and smells somewhat nostalgic. A reminder of a more gentle time, it conveys a certain fragility.
I doubt I could wear this perfume, and only this perfume as it simply doesn't keep me interested enough. But it's a soothing, natural scent that feels grounding and touching.

My 16 year old daughter and I were trying fragrances at Ulta and couldn't find anything we both liked. We must have smelled every perfume in that place but finally decided on Clinique Happy Heart, (I think that was what it was called). I went to the register and bought it but then, here comes my daughter with what she thinks is the holy grail of fragrances, Poeme by Lancome. She was flat out right, the stuff is heavenly. Very floral, kind of an old fashioned smell and very heavy, you only need one spray. We both loved it and wear it every day. Oh, I got right back in line, returned the Clinique and bought this one. The Ulta manager was very understanding.

Poeme by lancôme, bring good memories to me everytime I wear it! I remember smells this on teacher at middle school, she always wore it and everytime she entered at the classroom I can perceive it like saying "I'm here everybody" screaming the beauty of her presence!!! Mom wore it too, and since that time I'm in love with this, I was completely happy first time I bought it, I feel this fragrance suits me like it says I'm yours, a lovely feeling that u know when a fragrance match with you! Well after that this sweet/floral and a cozy warm vanilla fragrance is on my cabinet and will be there always, itks something that exudes class, a lovely lady, who's in love!!! The bottle is gourgeous, longevity is awesome. a well done fragrance by lancome.

Easy to go overboard. The bottle seems laughably huge given the very tiny spritzlet necessary to clear a room. 10ml is a lifetime supply.
That said, it's warm, sweet and homey; feminine without beng girly. I get floral beeswax and honey; it's having a deep whiff of jasmine tea with three honeys on a rainy day. During a quick sniff-through at Ulta, this is the one I chose to actually spray on myself. It seemed different than everything else on the shelf there. No fruits, not airy, and not 80s-dated -- just solid and pleasant.

What to say about this perfume? I smelled it on a friend and was blown away, it was amazing. Then I tried it on and...I don't know. It's a very familiar scent to me that I am not crazy about but the drydown....maybe the best I've ever smelled...ever! Kind of like smokey rich honey, just breathtakingly beautiful. Will I ever buy this perfume? I don't know, I love my coco mademoiselle better and I now trying to just buy one perfume at a time:)
EDIT: I have now purchased this beautiful fragrance, it is absolutely wonderful. I found myself craving it so I had no choice:) I got the biggest bottle! And now I know why I love the drydown (which comes about 20 minutes after you spray the perfume) because it smells EXACTLY like my beloved Morrocanoil! Since I have discoved Morrocanoil 4 years ago, I've been looking for a perfume that smells like this, and I've found it.
EDIT: My bf does not like it:( So I have devised quite a plan...I will be offering this bottle to my mother so at least I can smell it daily on her...that is how much I love it!

This is a nice mature scent. It's interesting, it is warmer but has a nice fruitiness and floral side too. It is bitter and sweet, making for an interesting combination of notes including white and yellow flowers, but a nice vanilla note too.

One of my top fives!! It's intoxicating and rich! It's a mature, sophisticated fragrance but still sweet enough to balance it out. YUMMY!!!

Poeme indeed. Beautiful, complex poem celebrating joie de vivre. It can be unebearable if someone overspray it (not me thanks God, I can put ten spritz on me and it will still be gorgeous, I guess it' because it loves my body chemistry:) And I love it back! I don't get any of the fruits listed in it's notes, it's just flowers in full bloom and amber+musk base (with a hint of vanilla and tonka). Perfection! Please Lancome, don't ever change it or discontinue it, please!

This used to be my favorite perfume about 3-4 years ago. I just came across the empty bottle by accident and tried to spray it because i forgot what it smelled like. I knew it was nice, but wasn't sure... i managed to get a drop out of the empty bottle... and WOW... im in love! Now i remember why this was my absolute favorite and how i went through the bottle so quickly.
The fragrance is just so lovely, feminine, classy, flowery and warm. its like nothing i've smelled before. I am using fragrances like chanel no5, coco mademoiselle, guerlain insolence, dior pure poison, etc etc... Hence i haven't repurchased this again ,but I think i should. How could i have lived without this for more than 2years??
The one good memory i have of this perfume is a compliment i received. I have lots of perfume and i have received alot of compliments like "you smell nice" or "you smell good", but when wearing Lancome Poemme a guy once told me "You smell beautiful". I was like "huh? you mean i smell nice?" and he said "No... you smell BEAUTIFUL". Im buying a full sized bottle this weekend!!!

Originally I only sprayed this because someone else was in front of the Marc Jacobs perfumes and to be honest I expected to hate it, but in actual fact it turned out to be love and first smell - it's not the kind of perfume I'd wear during the day or even often, but for the days when I need a pick me up, the subtle florals that blend perfectly into the velvety vanilla aspect of this perfume makes my heart swoon and I will literally smell my wrist all night long! The lasting power is AMAZING too, three sprays will last me all night without reapplication and I'll still be able to smell it in the morning - so it is expensive but lasts for ages.

I have bought and worn this for probably 10 years. I consistently get compliments on it. Use with a light hand, though...One tiny spritz on my wrist is completely enough or it will be overwhelming.

Evidently I'm in the minority on this one, but this is one of the worst scents I've tried. I sprayed it once on my hand at the makeup counter of a department store and it overpowered me instantly. I went straight to headache mode, which I still can't rid of. I washed my hands, no, I scrubbed my hands and couldn't get rid of it. I resorted to washing my hands with vinegar AND I CAN STILL SMELL IT. I think they could use about a tenth of the strength at the most and it would still be effective. I think I would actually like it if it were watered down like a zillion to one ratio. A HUGE thumbs down. If you're at all sensitive to smells and prone to headaches, stay far, far away from this one....

This fragrance reacts beautifully on my body chemistry. It is strong, so I only spray a little. At first it smells like beautiful bright flowers, and then it slowly evolves into a warm, comforting flower scent.
Here's what osmoz says about Poeme:
Top note:
Black Currant, Peach, Mandarin, Bergamot
Middle note:
Orange Blossom, Freesia, Jasmine, Tuberose
Base note:
Vanilla, Tonka, Amber, Musk
It's an ode to sensitive, uninhibited, radiant and cheerful women. This opulent bouquet of mainly yellow flowers, evokes a joyful and sunny world. The brand declares that in poetry, as in love, emotion is often produced by surprise. That is why the carefully-constructed notes echo each other. It took three years to develop the fragrance.
Two imaginary flowers play opposite each other: the fresh and frosty Himalayan blue poppy and the voluptuous and carnal datura of the sands.Developed around floral notes only, the white orange blossom flowers harmonize with the yellow flowers of the mimosa and daffodil.Vanilla flower softens the end note.

As autumn draws closer, I find myself craving Poeme. I first smelled Poeme ten years ago when as a young woman I was working in the clothing section of a department store at the mall. My coworker and I would sneak off and go sniff the fragrances. My everyday fragrance at the time was Clinique Happy, but when I sniffed the sprayer of the tester bottle of Poeme, I nearly fell over. I found it so incredibly unique, melancholy, and mysterious. I remember almost crying because it struck me as such a melancholy and heart-rendingly beautiful scent. I sprayed some on and although I didn't like the grapefruit note, I adored the spicy vanilla-floral heart.
I find that there is mystery in Poeme, even if one of the reviewers below me does not think so. I think the marketing was what suggested that Poeme is a simple, carefree fragrance, but if the juice had been marketed differently, I believe people would be singing a different tune as the scent, while very rich, is definitely quite mysterious, deep, and yes, poetic. The reason for this depth is that underneath the initial grapefruit/citrus note (which, again, I very much wish was not there in the first place) and the white florals, there is a brown sugary quality that lends it depth and richness - at fleeting moments it almost smells to me of pumpkin pie spice, like nose-tickling pepper or cinnamon mingled with vanilla and winter squash...which I guess is the reason I associate this scent so strongly with autumn. It's such a cozy smell. Strangely, Poeme was at one point marketed as being made up ONLY of floral notes, which is absurd: there is definitely a prominent grapefruit-y note at the beginning, and there is certainly some woodiness in the base. Poeme has been reformulated and although the general impression is still the same, longtime lovers of Poeme may notice differences. My favorite is the earlier version, which to my nose seems to be made up of higher quality ingredients. Just apply a drop or two...and I'd recommend wearing it on cool days, preferably in autumn when it is most evocative.
