I don't usually wear drugstore eyeshadow, but I got this free with my favorite mascara, CoverGirl's Lash Blast Volume Waterproof. Shimmering Onyx is a great product to use as a subtle eyeliner. It's not an intense black, and I think that makes it perfect as a wearable eyeliner. If you want an intense eyeliner look with this, you could use it with a wet brush to create that effect. It's very versatile and very cheap, so I definitely recommend it for that purpose. I haven't tried this as a crease eyeshadow or anything though, because I like more neutral looks. This would add a lot of depth and drama though if you wanted to wear it as a night time look.

Came across this one when i was looking for a Black Eyeshadow with a Bit of Shimmer ( for the night -outs ) to set my black eyeliner with..
It's got multiple uses on the Upper lid
1. Just eye lining
2. To Set my black gel eyeliner with
3. For the crease or for a V in the corners .
4.And for the smokey eye , of course

But when i' m using this eyeshadow to set my lower lashline , I'm being very careful not to get it in my inner rim bcoz of the shimmery ( mica ) thing ...So I use this with a thin angled eye liner brush .
It might drip first but once it is set , It's set ...No Falling ... since I do my eye make up first it didn't bother my foundation or anything.

Some people say it's not really black. But To me it looks black.

I like dark eyeshadows, but the sparkle put me off. And it flaked a lot without primer. I spent a lot of time wiping off the flakes and glitter off my face. Not very good overall.

I love this shadow! I use it very, very lightly on my lid and lower lash line to set Jordana's kohl pencil in black. Smudge that out then very lightly apply SO to the lash line and blend up to the lid. It is not black, so if you are looking for a black shadow, this is not it. It's a sparkly charcoal. I love that it gives me just enough smokey effect.

I am surprised of the negative reviews here. This shadow is not that dark or black. It is very much gray. It has some subtle shimmer but nothing that makes it a disco ball. I like this on my lid with a gray liner. I like the intensity and effect and overall, recommend it to every one. I am NC 30 with black hair and brown eye brows and this is a staple shadow for me-

Bought this at a CVS to just have a basic black eyeshadow on hand to play around with, and even then I was sorta underwhelmed. The black is very grayish, and even with a primer I thought it looked a little borderline tacky. I didn't just chuck it, I keep it around for adding a smidge of black/gray to a smokey eye from time to time. I wouldn't recommend buying this as a main product for a smokey eye though- too cheap and you get what you pay for.

The sparkles in it sort of apply themselves haphazardly- there were times when I applied this shadow and it looked sparkley, and other times it looked more matte. It's like the makers couldn't decide "Oh we need a shimmer color....but lets make it pretty matte, OK?"

Bottom line: If you want a more pigmented, sparkley color go for another MU line.

A little pricey... 'bout $9 each! But I love it nonetheless! My favorite is the black onyx shadow blast. But the blue one looked tacky though... wont buy that one again hehe - USE AN EYESHADOW PRIMER BEFORE YOU APPLY IT!

I actually really like this! relatively cheap. haha, it's really grown on me, & it's part of my daily makeup routine now. put it over my eyeliner for a hot, smokey look. ^__^
I love how it's not a boring, flat black, since it has superr pretty sparkles and everything.. (:
it's not the most pigmented, but I like that, since I can build the color up without loooking TOO dramatic.
would repurchase, since i'm sure i'll hit pan on it someday..
1 lippie off for the fallout, though, and it tends to fade somewhat through the day.

I really like this color black.... it has little specks of sparkle in it. normally i Hate sparkle in eyeshaddow, but this is different! its is really small and looks really nice! i wear it with subtle sage by covergirl (its a light green color). it looks really nice. i wear the green on my lid and the black in my crease and the outter corner of my lid. this look is very nice because it is not to dark but you can tell you have the colors on. i got mine one sale for $1! i think it is normally around 3 or 4 dollars.

This eyeshadow has tons of fall outs. This color is more like a gray. When you put it on your eyes it does not look like the color on the package..
HOWEVER...this is actually pretty okay with a primer. If you don't use it with a primer..just don't even bother. It's so freaking messy lol. ONLY USE IT IF YOU HAVE A PRIMER!!
edit: nvm. just don't use this. it sucks. dont use this crap. its okay when its used wet but it still dies.

this is such an amazing eyeshadow. i love it for a simple smokey eye look. the shimmer in it is soo pretty :) i also use it to line my top lid. i wet it, so it goes on smooth. and when it dries, it will not come off. i splash my face with water in the shower, my mascara comes off, but this shadow still stays on soo perfect. i have nothing but positive things to say about this shadow :)

I have to cake on so much in order for it to come out as "black" by then, half of it is on my cheeks and it's too time-consuming/difficult to blend.

I bought this as it was the only cheap single black eyeshadow pot I could find. Looks can be decieving. There is decidedly not enough pigment to make this shadow an official black, instead, it is more of a dark gray. Blending went well for me, but it wore of quickly and, again, looked more gray than black. The upsides to this would be the ability to buy one eyeshadow and use it for gray and black (depending on the amount applied), but that's what palletes are for. There is no apparent glitter when applied, so don't count on shimmer at the purchase. Overall, I would only reccommend this product for someone strapped for money who isn't dead set on a true black shadow.

(click continued for pic) One of the worst "black" eyeshadows I've ever encountered. It's a dull faded gray on my skin and layering doesn't help. It's marginally better when used wet. The glitter doesn't really show up, however it's more noticeable than the color of the eyeshadow itself. The shadow comes off VERY quickly (absolutely no staying power), even with a primer such as UDPP. I believe it's around $3-$4, but you're better off spending that money elsewhere.

As you can see, Urban Decay wins hands down. It's a little expensive at $16, but it's well worth it if you're serious about your eyeshadows!

This is very hard to use. It's somewhat pretty applied wet as an eyeliner, but I never wear this as eyeshadow. It's waaaay too hard to put on.

Update:
I've used this as a crease shadow in conjunction with other shadows and it's certainly growing on me. This is far too dramatic for all over eye use though.

Well, this is one of those cases where you get what you pay for. I think I paid $3 for this? It is difficult to put on, even when I used my nice M.A.C. eyeliner brush. For $3.50 more can get a Mary Kay mineral eyeshadow, or for a couple of dollars more you can get a M.A.C. eyeshadow. I got this at CVS during their buy 1 get 1 at 50% off so I'm not too annoyed, but I won't repurchase.
