I have this in the round packaging. I actually prefer the round packaging over the square packaging but I love this eyeshadow so I would repurchase it in the square packaging if I have to.
This, as well as most of my other Bobbi Brown shadows, has a very good texture. It is very soft and almost creamy in a way. It does not powder up a lot with I touch it with my brush and that is a huge pet peeve of mine.
This is a dark charcoal color with the tiniest hint of blue. I use this all the time over my blackground paint pot for a sultry smokey eye.
You can purchase this in the square packaging for $20 and I think it is worth it. This is my favorite charcoal eyeshadow. The only other eyeshadow that comes close to it is the Glamora Castle eyeshadow from MACs Tartan Tale Collection. Except Glamora Castle has a touch more blue and is a shade lighter.
I would recommend this product to anyone looking for the perfect smoke out charcoal eyeshadow.

This is a gorgeous shimmery color that can be described as a blue-tinged dark gray. It's a wonderful color for a dark dramatic smoky eye. The staying power is also great.

But all things considered, Bobbi Brown's eyeshadow is kind of expensive. The color of this isn't even that unique, although it is very pretty. I think that the packaging is rather bulky and a little awkward, and delicate if you transfer it into the palette. Please take that into consideration as you look at this.

I use this as a liner and I pair it with BB Sterling eyeshadow. It is a beautiful charcoal gray color with a hint of blue. Works awesome as a liner.

GORGEOUS dark blue/silver shadow. Super pigmented, soft and bold! Great for a smokey look. it's like MAC's Knight Divine but soooo much better! WOW

I guess you can see a little bit of blue, but its very light...all you can see is a smoky dark charcoal eyeshadow, really buttery and amazing, I found out it blends awesome....This is a very difficult color to find, and BB makes it perfect!!!, really happy with it

Gunmetal is described on the Bobbi Brown website as "dark charcoal blue." I guess there's blue in it, but to me it looks like a shiny dark grey. Bobbi's grey shadows tend to have a touch of brown in them, though, so I can see why they chose to include blue in the description. I think this is a special purpose kind of shadow. When brushed on lightly, it adds a silvery sheen but can be layered on for a darker smoky look. I wouldn't recommend loading it on for an everyday look, but it can be used sparingly to blend or highlight for a special effect. A cosmetics company needs to provide a variety of colors and shades in order to meet the needs of all the customers, and Gunmetal helps to meet that need. I personally think it is very pretty, even though I have to be careful when I apply it.

I've tried so many times to like Bobbi Brown as it seems like a cult favorite and I just don't get it. I have been disappointed EVERY time and don't see what there is to like. Bought this eyeshadow and two of the bases that are in the pots. They are awful--don't glide on and instead leave a chalky cakey look all over my eyes. Even used the expensive brush they recommend. The shadow did nothing for me. As did the undereye concealor. Returned everything and went back to Clinique (touch base) and Laura Mercier (shadows and eyeliner). Much better!!!

I giggled when I saw the first couple of reviews on this mention that they have trouble blending this because that is the precise reason I don't wear it as much!! It is a gorgeous color--a shimmery navy charcoal blend. It is hard to blend and many tiny color particles fall off my brush when I apply and land on my cheeks. And since this is a darker color, when I brush it off, it makes me look like I have horrible under eye circles. I don't know if this is my imagination, but I feel like I cannot wear this at all when I am even a little bit tired because it seems to bring out even the slightest red in my eyes. I don't want to discourage people from buying this though because the color is so lovely. Just be mindful that it takes a lot of careful time to apply this.

I completely agree with some of the other reviewers. Lovely, intense blue-grey, so it can brighten the eyes. However, it is incredibly difficult to apply - very hard to blend yet it's highly pigmented. I have excellent Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier brushes, so my tools are not the issue. Moreover, I am very comfortable applying eyeshadow (hey - I was a teen in the 70s and 80s). In fact, I was relieved to see other MUA reviews stating that this shadow was hard to apply, because I thought I was losing my touch. Sum: Nice colour, but too hard to apply. Try another brand if you love the colour. I should point out that I have BB's Shimmerwash in Stone and it is much easier to apply, so the application problem is not with the entire line.

Deep blue/platinum/charcoal color which is fabulous as a liner but, as a shadow requires expertise to apply attractively. I'm still trying to hone my application skill. When done so is very sexy. Reminiscent of an eyeshadow an early screen siren would wear. Can go sultry or goth depending on intensity yet not hard looking the way full on black can be. Very silky but tends to crease if you tend toward oily lids which I have. When used as a liner I recommend using Paula Dorf's Transformer to set. The pan is huge considering how concentrated the product is, I would repurchase if broken but doubt I will use all of my current pan in this lifetime. Would look stunning with brown or green eyes.

This was the first eyeshadow by Bobbi Brown I ever got. I totally like it, even though it's hard to blend, but then I guess blending becomes harder the darker the eyeshadow is. It's a pretty huge pan, bigger than MAC's and lasts a lifetime, seriously. IF mine should come to an end, I will buy again, though :)

Blue tinged charcoal gray described a few reviews down is the perfect description for Gunmetal Shimmer Shadow. This gives me a great smokey look and the texture is great! This is very pigmented and buildable! Highly recommend for a smokey gray look!

A very pretty softly shimmery gray. I had bad experience with gunmetal in another line, realized it was a warm gray vs cool gray.
Versatile color, nice texture, size sucks.

One of my favorite platinum silver eyeshadows. It blends really well and goes on fairly subtle so it's great for day as well as night wear. Don't let the shimmer scare you, it's really subtle! I pair it with BB's chocolate shimmer for a great smoky eye, and it also looks great paired with a shimmery forest green (like the green from BB's Forest palette) or a moss green. Of course, it looks great with purples, blues, cranberry as well! You can pair it with virtually any color and it will look great! It's a very versatile color!

Buttery smooth texture, intense pigmentation, true-to-its-name colour shade, long-wearing - I don't think there is anything negative I can say about this eyeshadow. Perfect for the smokey eye look when you don't want to use black eyeshadow. It's a cool-toned gray on me, very metallic. Blends like a dream. I don't think I will ever run out of this eyeshadow because there's so much product and you don't need a lot for it to show up intensely. Great eyeshadow!

I can see this color being lovely on lots of other skin tones, but on my NW25ish cool/neutral olive skin this looks blue. Not gray-blue, blue with the tiniest tinge of gray. The shimmer is really nice, the pigmentation is nice, and even though it's really not the shadows fault and more my skintones fault, two lippies from me.

I love this eyeshadow. I have dark brown eyes and pale skin with brown hair, and it really makes my eyes pop and the whites seem... well, whiter.

Its not really part of my everyday repetoire, but comes out when I want to look super glam and vixen like. It does a mean smokey eye, which you can build up layer upon layer, and it doesn't crease. I normally combine it with black gel liner (BB) and a reddy/browny shimmer shadow at the very top of the crease (UD). Pale pink lippy and minimal blush completes tres sexy look.

My packaging is broken currently, and so it the shadow cake inside, but I think that was because I dropped it. Little crumbs are very hard to get out of the carpet!

This shade is a shimmery blue-tinged charcoal grey. The perfect color for a subtle smokey eye that's safe for daytime wear. Matter of fact, if you have seen MAC's eyepaint in Grapito, I would basically describe this as the powder form of that color. Gunmetal is just a bit softer in intensity, but it definitely is along the same vein. You can even see the exact amount of navy blue in it that Graphito has. That said, I still need to figure out just how I want to wear Gunmetal. Just got it, and haven't really had the time to experiment. Overall, I can see it being a nice addition to my collection. As always, Bobbi Brown's eyeshadows actually wear most of the day without creasing or budging. Goes on soft and velvety smooth. I have always secretly preferred BB's shadows over MAC's in terms of the staying power. BUT, MAC has a bolder and better spectrum of colors. If not for that, I would be interested in MAC ONLY for their lipglosses, because their shadows always crease on me after an hour or two...

I love this shadow. I'm PPP cool toned, 38 and I can do a smokey eye with this that is even ok at work. It can be applied in layers to really smoke, or sheer. Because of my cool undertones, this color looks amazing. BB really does give you a tremendous amount of eyeshadow for the price and it's quality is very high. When I was introduced to her shadow to begin with, I loved her matte shadows. Now I have branched out into shimmers. This is a soft shimmer. I get a tremendous amount of attention when I wear it. It makes my green eyes really shine. I'm in love with this shadow. Looks like I may never ever run out of it either. It also stays on all day. It does crease, but not horribly. It's beautiful. I do wish BB would change to easy to open and close flip tops. A girl can dream!
