This is my second time using Clear shampoo. The first time I used the volumizing one on a infrequent basis, maybe one a week or so, so I didn't really experience that much hair loss. This time I am using Total care every other day without another shampoo in between and I have experienced quite a lot of hair loss.I am definitely going to definitely return this!!! You can get your money back if you still have your original receipt on their website.

I took it upon myself to email the company and told them I had concerns because of all of the people who have reviewed it saying it caused hair loss. This is what I emailed them:

Hello, my name is ******. I'm a consumer who bought the Clear Scalp and Hair therapy shampoo and conditioner. After using it I became curious to know others opinions on it and looked up reviews on it. Every review site I went on had several negative reviews all linked to the same issue: hair loss. This scared me away from continuing use of your product. I really loved what your product did for my hair. Can you please persuade me back into using it and reassure me that this product will not cause hair loss for me? I know a product undergoes a lot of testing before it is put on the shelves for the public to use.. but you just don't understand. This product received a ridiculous amount of negative reviews linked to hair loss!! Check out Makeupalley.com. Thank you for your time. Please understand I only email you because I have a very serious concern about my health when using this product. ----------------------

and this was their response: Hello ********, Thank you for contacting us here at Clear. We would love for you to try the product again as we have had many favorable consumer experiences when using this. If after you try the product and you are unhappy with it, please contact us here at Consumer.Services@Unilever.com and we would be more than happy to assist you. Thanks again for reaching out to us and enjoy! -Your Friends at Clear -----------------------------------

ARE YOU SERIOUS???? Wow. Never using this product again. They totally ignored my question about hair loss and if this product could be a potential harm to my health. If anyone ever asks me about this product, I will tell them they would be better off using a cheap Vo5 shampoo than this stuff. By the way, I am a licensed cosmo whose specialty is product knowledge. For me to say freaken Vo5 is better than this is saying something!!!!!

I think this shampoo is amazing. I have eczema and I'm hypothyroidic - which makes for a very dry scalp in the winter!
It doesn't lather as well as some other shampoos but it does everything else that it claims it will. Think about even alternating it with another shampoo if that bothers you. I use the volume one in the purple bottle.
This completely took away the itch and flaking for me and made my scalp feel amazing. A lot of scalp treatments have gross/way-too-natural scents, this one smells nice. Not super strong and/or amazing, just nice.
If you have a dry/sensitive scalp like me or you color your hair a lot, please try this!

I tried this product out when it first came out. And for the first couple of times, it seem okay. But it seems to make my hair fall flat and it seems like I was having more and more product build up on my roots. As time went on, it seems like my hair was lifeless. I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone. Didnt really do what it says.

Made my hair look and feel very greasy and unclean even after just washing. I can usually use just about any shampoo and have my hair look alright. This made it look very limp and stringy. The smell was alright and that's about it. I didn't finish the bottle before switching. I would not recommend this shampoo for any type of hair.

My hair is naturally curly, very fine, and below my shoulders. For the last year my hair has been falling out in handfuls, to the point I would cry just because I knew I'd be washing my hair that day and what would happen in the end ... Excessive loss of more hair. I've known for over a year that I have a sulfate allergy and have had to use sulfate free shampoos ever since. Nine times out of ten they smell awful, don't do anything to help my hair, and leave my hair dry no matter how much conditioner I use.

I never liked how this line had to use such a major name in all their advertising. To me, a product should speak for itself. I don't need a blonde bombshell telling me to use a product.... Anyway!!!
My best friend tried this line and swore it helped her own hair... And bc our hair is so different, I didn't take her advice. Then CVS offered a deal that made this shampoo free. So OF COURSE I will try it for free!!
This has been the absolute best product for me!!! AND I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING (natural products, Burt's Bees, loreal, thermafuse, just to name a few). I sent my best friend a text yesterday crying tears of joy after having used this product a week. My hair isn't falling out, the breakage has stopped/slowed dramatically, my hair is smooth and silky and looks HEALTHY, even after two days without washing --- my hair still looks beautiful and clean! I can even sleep on my hair and it looks good the next day. This has literally been a life saver for my hair.

I AMNOT PAID TO REVIEW THIS (to all you MUA-ers with WAY TOO much free time as to look into who reviews and how many products they have reviewed and the last time they were on MUA). This review has been my personal experience with this product that yes, I did get for free at CVS, but that has nothing to do with this review!!! This is my PERSONAL OPINION based on a products performance on my specific type of hair/hair issues.

I genuinely love this product and could not be more grateful to my best friend for urging me to check it out!!!!!!

UPDATE: I went back to CVS and picked up a trial size bottle of the total care shampoo. The shampoo and conditioner claim to improve your hair in 7 days. I'm on day 3 and I can tell a big improvement in my hair. It's softer and the ends don't feel as dry. The only 2 complaints I have is the over cheap perfume smell (like aqua net hair spray) and it makes my hair flat. For a drug store shampoo/conditioner it is my favorite. Hair: fine, down to shoulders, letteing blond color grow out.
This is not a fake posting. I was not paid to post and this is not my first posting.
I tried the Total Care line a couple years ago when it first came out and hated it! It made my hair super heavy, super greasy, super static...yuck! I used half the bottles because I thought it was sooooo good for my hair. I finally threw I away and moved on.
A few days ago I was in CVS and scanned my card and received a coupon to try for free. I decided to try the total care conditioner again. Ive been using it for 3 days.
PROS: makes my hair super soft. Can run my fingers through my hair all day with no tangles. A very small amount (size of a dime) is enough to cover my ends to mid length. Rinses out really well.
CONS: the smell is horrible! Very strong perfume that lasts all day, night, next morning and doesn't fade away. Not even a pleasant flower of fruit perfum but a very overpowering cheap drug store perfum. No hair loss though because I don't put it close to my scalp.
In conclusion my hair looks very shiny, smooth, and tangle free.

I absolutely LOVE this duo!! I purchased the strong lengths formula, and my hair looks and feels so great... and it's more manageable and soft than it's been in I cant even explain how long. It has a great fragrance that smells clean well into the evening of day two, but isn't super strong or overwhelming at first. It's a similar fragrance to many other shampoos, but they've got the formula just right on this one cause it still smells and feels just washed after over 36 hours. I've been using Nexxus ProMend for the last few months, and I'll happily toss what I have left of them because this stuff makes my hair feel so much better! I haven't noticed ANY fallout like some of the other posters have mentioned, it still looks clean after two days (and trust me, I can't afford to lose any hair or go very long without washing or a I would look awful. My hair is soft, thin, and fine like a little kid). I struggle with dandruff regularly, and ALWAYS have major flakes and redness and itching, but my scalp showed almost no flakes and redness after using this formula and for the first time in months NO itching. I'm so happy I decided to pick up this pair. For those of you who think this is a fake review, it's not. I've reviewed a few other totally unrelated products in the past and I made the choice to try these when I was wandering through a Walmart store and paid full price for then just like anyone else would. I think its silly of the people who bad posted reviews of these products without ever trying them. Shampoos and conditioners work differently for most people, just as a foundation or perfume would. For me, or maybe for others with oily scalp, fine hair, and dandruff these products will give you the same great results as they have me. I personally love these and will definitely be repurchasing!!! :)

I tried this product because there was a $3 dollar off coupon attached to the bottle, making it almost half off the listed price. So I purchased the volumizing root boost shamppo and conditioner to try. It has been my forth day of using the product and I am extremely unsatisfied. My hair is extremely waxy, weighed down and greasy. It feels like my hair is deflated, I did not feel a boost for my roots at all. I have never felt an urge to throw out an unfinished bottle of shampoo and condition before!

I have never experienced issue with hair loss before. I did realize that there were more than usual amount of hairs that have fallen out after I finished blow drying.

I would not recommend anyone to use this shampoo.

This stuff made my scalp burn and itch and also made my hair feel dry. I'm probably going to throw it in the garbage. At least it made me realize how good my other shampoos are (renpure products).

Ok, I never do this and I hate it when people write reviews on a product they haven't used but I'm about to do it right now.

I just got this at CVS an hour ago for free with a free coupon that printed out of the machine when you scan your CVS card. I paid 40 cents to cover the tax and I'm going back to return it as soon as I'm doing writing this review to get my 40 cents back.

I literally just got home 30 minutes and have have been reading through pages and pages of reviews for this product. If even only one person mentioned that this product had caused their hair to fall out, I wouldn't use it. However, more than a dozen of the reviewers within the first few pages of reviews mentioned it. So how does this product have a 3.4 rating and 61% of reviews would buy it again when it makes hair fall out?! Well scroll down to 9 reviews below mine... user mharnisch mentioned at the bottom of her review "DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT. All these reviews about how good it is, are totally fake and done by people paid to write good reviews for them.". At first I thought she was just upset and saying that just to say it... but then I looked further into it and started clicking on "more reviews by _______" for each reviewer that gave this 5 stars and a good review. Most of those users had only one review on MUA. This one. Now, I understand some people never review anything and only read reviews here on MUA and some people (like myself) review almost everything they use or try... HOWEVER, Unlike one user who stated that this was her first MUA review and she only wrote it cause she hated it so much, it caused hair fall out, and she wanted to prevent others from using it (user brookelynn1216 who wrote a review on 12/4/2012... and yes, I did click "More reviews by brookelynn1216" and indeed this was her only review..) all the other reviews who had only one review for this one product on MUA raved about it. Now, I'm not claiming that these people do work for the Clear brand and/or were paid to write these good reviews for this product... but it makes sense and I do believe it to be true.

And because I feel like being a b*tch right now and I've already mentioned people who hate this product based on the reviews I read, I feel like I might as well mention said people who wrote those rave reviews on MUA about this product and who APPEAR to be working for and/or were paid by Clear to write the review... considering that is their only review on this website.

Behold the list of MUA users who gave this a rave review and oddly enough have just this one (or 2 in a few cases) and only product review on MUA (I included their total list of product reviews as well... just for sh*ts and giggles):

Just an extra side note, cause I'm a loser and this totally intereted me as well... most of the users on this list created their account right before they wrote their review. Seem fishy?

Now, I'm not one to throw people under the bus so if these are regular MUA users, I deeply apologize. However, I HIGHTLY doubt that.

What it comes down to is that I just wasted an hour of my time finding out that this product most likely will make my hair fall out so instead of using it, I'm gonna go get my 40 cents back. Hopefully you read through the reviews and see for yourself that the majority, not all, but the majority of the good reviews were posted by people who seem to be MUA imposters. Just saying.

I bought the shampoo and conditioner in the Ultra Shea before some of the bad reviews, didn't like it, put it back in the closet, then recently tried it again, having forgotten what the problem is. Thank goodness I am not experiencing hair loss like some of the other reviewers, but I am experiencing an itchy and flaking scalp, which I recall now was the problem, so I'm not sure why I even kept it. We run a humidifier every night so that absolutely doesn't happen with good shampoos and conditioners.

I bought the Total Care shampoo and Volumizing Conditioner.

- the shampoo I love. It doesn't dry my hair out
- the conditioner hasn't really added any volume to my hair. Probably won't repurchase, and will just get the total care conditioner
- the price point is great for a more than average drugstore shampoo + conditioner. Matches pantene (when on sale)
- its so difficult for me to get product out, I have to squeeze like heck to get some out. But that could be seen as a positive so that I don't use too much product.

This is my routine shampoo. I use this every other day, and once a week I use a tea tree shampoo to clarify. My hair is really dry and frizzy, plus I get to deal with dandruff and a slightly oily scalp. This shampoo takes the itch away and makes my hair feel clean but not stripped. I will probably keep buying this because it does what it says and it's affordable.

I wish I had read the reviews before buying this product. I am also having my hair fall out by the hand fulls, I don't know how to make it stop either. I bought this shampoo 2 weeks ago, and noticed my scalp had a lot of build up. The build up started after maybe 2 washes with this. Then it got way worse, my hair started to fall out in clumps....I'm talking so much that I thought for sure I was going to have no hair when I got out of the shower. This was after maybe the 3rd wash with it, I stopped immediately. My dad has Alopecia, the kind where he has no hair basically anywhere. I began to panic thinking it was happening to me(still could be) After reading other reviews, I'm pretty hopeful that this shampoo is the cause of my hair loss and not alopeica. My only problem is it's been 2 weeks since I last used this stuff and my hair is still falling out....Bottom line, don't buy this product, you will end up with bald spots.

I am all about trying new products and when I saw this I new I would give it a try. I got the Volume Boost shampoo and conditioner about two weeks ago. The first few times I used it I was in LOVE. It smelt so good and left my hair really soft. After using it for about a week straight it stopped working as well. Now my hair comes out frizzy and tangley and I can't wait for the bottles to be done.

I have mixed feelings about this product line. I tried a full size sample of the Total Care shampoo and conditioner and liked it a lot. It smelled fantastic and left my hair soft. I didn't experience any hair loss from it. However, it didn't protect my color very well, so I decided to try the Damage and Color Repair one. Well, that one does make my hair fall out. Some hair fallout is natural, but this is too much. Its a pity since it also smells very good and it actually leaves my natural S waves intact without straightening them out like most conditioning shampoos do. I want to like this product, but I won't be using the one for color treated hair again. I would use the Total Care again though.

3/23/13 Edit: I just used a scalp treatment on my hair and realized that part of the issue with Clear is probably the manual exfoliation going on. Because I lost a little hair this time too, though not as much as with using the Damage and Color Repair stuff. Exfoliation can remove hair, and the instructions on the Clear bottles specifically state to rub both the shampoo and the conditioner vigorously into your scalp. I'm not sure why the Total Care shampoo didn't exfoliate as much as the Damage and Color Repair, except that there must be an ingredient in the latter that encourages more exfoliation. I've heard some shampoos for color treated hair have an abrasive in them that polishes the hair, so maybe that is the case here. But I do believe the degree of exfoliation encouraged by the instructions on the packaging is also a factor.
