My Holy Grail Moisturizer. Seriously, best for the most sensitive, acne-prone, dry skin. The only pitfall is the price. I've tried about 8 different drugstore moisturizers to find a cheap alternative, but I keep going back to this one because it just dramatically improves the texture and condition of my face. Will repurchase forever

I bought this cream when the winter weather was taking a huge toll on my skin. At the time, my eczema was uncontrollable and all the creams that didn't break me out were unable to keep the flakes at bay. It was brutal to apply foundation just to find bits of skin peeling off in every direction, no matter how much moisturizer I used. This product saved me.
[ PROS ] - very moisturizing; does not irritate my eczema/rosacea; does not break out my acne-prone skin.
[ CONS ] - a little pricey; may be too heavy for those with normal to oily skin/the summer time; it can leave the face feeling greasy (perhaps just use at night!); bottle is very unsanitary; glass bottle may be too heavy and cumbersome for travel.
All in all, I would definitely repurchase this cream without thinking although I may venture out to try different products for the summer if this proves to be too heavy.

All I was looking for in a moisturizer is 1, to moisturize well, 2, to sink in well. Bought this after reading all the good reviews here. But it has been a total disappointment. It breaks me out in lots of little white spots, even though the texture doesn't seem that heavy. It just sits on my face all day in a shiny film. I am no expert in skin care products, but i do have more than 20 years' experience in trying lots of different brands, from high end to high street. I believe that the ingredients in this moisturizer are just not fine enough to sink in and therefore they sit on my skin and block it.

I bought this as a last attempt to put some moisture into my skin after many fails with other products. My biggest problem with my skin is that makeup just looks horrid and cakey, no matter what I put under it, just plain bad. It looks much more natural and like good skin with no makeup, but since makeup gives that overall tone, I want to wear it especially for occasions. Years ago I didn't have this problem. But as I age, it's become a trial and error chore every time I have to wear makeup. Unfortunately what might be passable on one day, looks awful the next, so I couldn't count on anything to be consistent.
So, I ended up with this product, and although I'm not pleased going chemical (I really prefer the natural ingredients on my skin), this is the only thing I've found that I can 100% rely on where my skin looks youthful and healthy with makeup. Every time, and every makeup.
Clinique says over time the skin will actually adjust and repair. I don't know about that yet, or whether it's just a temporary thing until washed off. But I do know it has saved me time spent putting on makeup, the usual washing it back off, and going through this ordeal when trying to get makeup to look good.
However, I still don't believe that chemicals can give the body the building blocks or make the body work in unison, because to the body, chemicals are always a foreigner. But at least this helps the makeup look good during the day.

I knew when I bought this that it was recommended for very dry to dry skins, but I still wanted to give it a try on my normal/combination skin. Unfortunately I didn't like it because it sort of sat on the skin rather than sink into it - which I suppose is why its aimed at the drier ladies out there. I didn't hate this but it wasnt for me.
Also, another Clinique moisturizer in a tub rather than a pump. Tsk tsk.

This was one of the only moisturizers that soothed my itchy, peeling, dry skin during the six months I was on Accutane. I tried many moisturizers, and while a couple did an adequate job, this was hands down the best. It kept my skin calm for longer than any of the moisturizers I tried, and I didn't feel like I needed to reapply constantly. I HIGHLY recommend for anyone on Accutane.
Now that I've been off Accutane for quite some time (early August 2011 was my last dose), I don't need a moisturizer quite so heavy. Let me clarify that - this moisturizer is NOT too heavy, but as my skin stays soft and moisturized with lighter-duty (read: cheaper) moisturizers, I don't use this daily, as it is fairly expensive. I do use this when my skin feels like it needs some extra love, or if I'm having a nice little spa day.
Overall, it's fantastic for every day use or just on occasion. I'd recommend & repurchase.

LOVE LOVE LOVE! This is the only moisturizer I can use on my oily skin that does not break me out. My face is so soft and smooth now, and I have been using it for about 2 weeks. I received this as a sample with a clinique lipstick purchase and I plan on DEFINITELY buying the full size once my sample runs out.

I had to switch to this moisturizer after I had a bad reaction to a certain cleansing milk... And I've fallen in love. I love the gel-like consistency because it doesn't make your skin greasy, and because it is so intense in hydration you really don't need to use a lot. I'll admit that the jar packaging may not be the most sanitary, but I don't mind because I don't dig my fingers into the jar to scoop out product, I just skim the top. This way, none of the product from the top that I've touched touches the fresh cream at the bottom.
It's a little on the pricey side compared to drugstore creams, but is much cheaper than other department store competitors. Buy it in the larger size for a better value.
The scent did bother me at first, but I don't mind because I know that all of Clinique's products are fragrance free. If your skin care smells really nice, chances are a fragrance has been added to it.
One thing I did notice is that is does not have SPF in it, which isn't a total deal breaker for me because I can apply a sunscreen on top, and most of my makeup has a SPF in it as well.
I'll probably have to switch daytime moisturizers when the summer comes around because I am starting to get a little bit of shine on my nose, but I'll definitely keep using this as my night moisturizer.

For those of us that have consistently dry skin I can't recommend this product. For people who have occasional episodes of dry skin I think this might be perfect. I received this as a sample from sephora and I've tried it approximately 6 times. It has a chemical smell to it and a gel-like consistency. I am used to thicker creams that have shea butter or other oils in them that leave a little bit of a creamy film. This leaves more of a gel like film on the skin, a bit sticky. It can do the job for some but I found it not the finish that I wanted and I really didn't like that chemical smell. I have not looked at the ingredients but it wouldn't surprise me if the oil content was low and the silicone content was high. This is not what I'm looking for, however I can appreciate that others might like this. I'm glad I got a sample and didn't purchase it.

This product really moisturizes the skin for a very long period of time. Because it packs such a moisturizing punch, I prefer to use it mainly when my skin is looking or feeling extra parched, due to my regular usage of Retin-A on it. Also, when the weather is cold out, this moisturizer is truly one of the best that you can use to keep your face from becoming totally dried out.
This moisturizer does have a slight scent to it. Some people may find this to be a slight con. But, the scent of this product really isn't a big issue for me at all. As, after application, the slight scent does eventually dissipate.
Overall, this moisturizer really is a good product. And, I do plan to re-purchase it in the future.

This stuff literally makes my face feel like baby skin. I love it so much and a little bit goes a long way. It absorbs into my skin very fast and the consistency is so nice. It could be better packaged but it's not to big of a deal for me.

This saved my face from the effects of wind and biting cold this winter. Paula Begoun doesn't seem to like it because its jar packing (ok - me too) but also says it isn't the best at hydration. I beg to differ. I just use it at night time and my face is still plumply hydrated in the morning. It doesn't have sunscreen so I wouldn't use it during the day. I really like this to fill a temporary climate need. There is NO FRAGRANCE in Clinique products since it is not allowed.

I just love this product. It moisturize my skin without feeling greasy. I like this a lot better then the normal version since i felt that one wasn't moisturizing enough. Even though I have used this all throughout summer but it doesn't make my skin more oily and mostly importantly, it doesn't clog up my pores or make it look more noticeable. In some case my skin can react to product when i first try it, but this is every gentle and my sensitive skin doesn't show any reaction to it what so ever.
The only downside is the packaging. It comes in a tub without anything to get the product out. I have to use a tool from another brand. the texture is not that thick. I think it could be put in a tube of some sort.
But it's not that important to me so I will totally repurchase again.

I am skin type 2 in Clinique and normally i do not need so much moisture, but this winter has been very dry and my skin did not react well to the dry heating air and dry cold outside.
I bought this and was positively surprised, that it is not really a cream but more a gel cream, that absorbs quickly and does not leave any excess or oily feeling. I use it morning before my makeup and evening and it does help my skin, it looks very nice and feels super soft and good.
The only disadvantage is the packaging, i prefer hygienic tubes over pots.

HORRIBLE as a face moisturizer - it's too thick and heavy for my combination screen. Makes a great hand cream though. Will not be buying this as there are much better products out there and Clinique has way better face moisturizers than this one.

I love the original moisture surge, but this one is far too fragranced and in a bad way, chemically. It's nice for dry skin, very hydrating, but I don't like how it never seems to dry on your face, it feels lacky all day long.
I only got a sample of this in a gift with purchase, wouldn't buy the full size.

I have very dry, very reactive skin (I swear it can sense alcohol or fragrance a mile off and immediately goes bright red). My skin had got really flaky in the cold weather and I was looking for a rich winter moisturiser.
I nearly passed this one by as it had a bad review on Paula Begoun's 'Beatypedia' site. However, I did notice that her criticisms were mostly about the packaging (it's a jar so as soon as you open it many of the antioxidants are lost). While this is of course annoying, I was pretty desperate, and saw that it had really good reviews on here, so bit the bullet.
I'm glad I did! It is a very hydrating moisturiser, with no irritating scent. It feels really lovely, and melts into skin, kind of like a sorbet.
My criticisms would be the jar packaging (why, Clinique, why?!), and the fact that it does leave a very slight sticky feeling on my skin. I do have to wait for a few minutes before putting makeup on over it or it balls up.
However even with these criticisms I would buy it again. I have tried so many rich moisturisers and they have either not been rich enough or broken me out...this one is just perfect (especially in winter!). I haven't had any outbreaks of dermatitis for weeks and that is quite rare for me!

WOW, sums it up.....my face feels like velvet <3 it!
I have been using this product now for several months and can not believe the change in my skin.If you just try it a few times you will miss out on the change you will see with daily use. If it makes your skin feel sticky you may be using to much.....STILL LOVING IT!

Background info on me: Oily skin, dry around eyes/nose/chin, break-out prone....
This was recommended to me by a Bobbi Brown make-up artist when I went in to get color matched for foundation. She said my skin was overly oily because I was stripping the moisture out of my skin with all of my anti-acne skin care products.
I am always concerned about putting heavy cream/oil on my skin because I don't want to break out but this gel-cream combo is just perfect. I feel like I'm filling in my wrinkles/dry skin when I put this on but not adding any more oil to my cheeks/break-out areas. It doesn't absorb right away so I do wait about 5-10 min before applying makeup but the wait is worth it. My skin is soft and supple and NO break-outs at all from this product.
I love it and would repurchase. 1 lippie off because the product comes in a pot and needs to be scooped out to avoid contamination.
