I'm a major fan of MAC's glaze finish lipsticks---which Gleam is. I can't go so far as saying this is one of my favorite lippies, but it a good one to have in your collection. It's a glaze lipstick so it's very moisturising, but it's got a bit of a metallic/frost look to it. I would describe the color as a shimmery pale plum. It's a nice subtle shade for a more dramatic or smoky eye and different from a nude or pale pink lip. I even use it when I am rushing to run errands and just need to throw something on to add just a tinge of color so I don't look washed out.

I'm surprised this doesn't have a higher rating. I love this lipstick. It's like a metallic pale violet rose. Very unique, Nothing dupes for it. It's not opaque. I erase my lips, line them, and wear Gleam over a pale neutral L'oreal Endless or Revlon Colorstay. Perfect glimmery pale lip. I usually go crazy big with the eyes so this completes the Kim Kardashian look. Of course if you want you can just wear this by itself, no base or liner, for a pretty sheer daytime or office look.

This was my first Mac lipstick I purchased a year ago when I didn't even know too much about color ranges in lipstick lol. Needless to say I don't really reach for this anymore but it's a frost texture and it's a nice plum color. I find with this lipstick I really have to apply to get it to the color I want, it also doesn't last very long, on me 1 hour tops. I don't have a gloss to match it but that's ok since I haven't reached for it in a while but it is a pretty color, just not my favorite. Probably won't re-purchase.

I'm not someone who can pull off reds, pinks, or orange toned lipsticks, so this one is just perfect for my fair skin. I prefer lipglosses, but I was looking at all the lipsticks the store had to offer, and this one was my pick. It looks nice on too, it has a little bit of frosty tone, which I like. I can see someone not liking this, but for me, it is perfect.

This is one of the few MAC products that just sits in my makeup case and never gets used or even considered. I should put it up for swap. I'm not even sure what I was thinking when I got this, I can't imagine that I tried it on at the store and thought it looked nice...it's far too light for my complexion (neutral-toned light caramel :). It's not extremely pigmented but is enough so that it gives a dead look to my face. I can imagine it would look great one someone much much fairer and cool-toned, but for me - no dice!

I'm surprised there aren't more positive reviews on this color. It's really not plum, more of a lilac with shimmer. It is frosty, but not over the top. It's a great color choice for really cool toned complexions. Peaches, corals, and most browns don't work on my skin tone. This is a nice change from the cool pinks I typically wear. I think it's a better color for fall/winter than summer. The only reason 4/5, is that I don't find it's an everyday color - better for going out.

I picked this lipstick up last month on a whim, along with Plink! I liked it after trying it on initially but then discovered that it did not really show up on me. I have pigmented lips and something that is sheer and mauvey just isn't going to show up. The texture is nice (I have only one other Glaze) but I went and exchanged it for Lovelorn.

I went to the MAC counter looking for Isis-apparently I'm really out of the loop because Isis has been d/c-ed for a while. I was looking for something in the same color range and the SA showed me Gleam. This is a very unusual color. It looks like a metallic plum frost and I think it either complements you or it really doesn't. I actually think it works with my coloring-very fair brunette. It's very shiny and looks good paired with a more dramatic eye. While I think it's a pretty color and somewhat unusual, it isn't something I use everyday so I probably won't repurchase.

Great, light frosty lilacky plum color. Almost too light for my NC 35 skin tone but pair it with a nude lip liner and it works!

Don't judge a lippie by its color in the tube that is for sure! in the tube this looks like a cool bronze with silvery shimmer. Once applied it is still a light bronze with silver frost but there is the slightest touch of rose in it to warm it up. I loooooove this lipstick. You cannot apply it too heavy or the silver frost will make you look like a corpse. The lipstick texture is so smooth and creamy. Lasts long too. Also the silver shimmer really makes the lips look bigger. Lovely!

Gleam is from the glaze collection (like a cross between the lustres and the frosts). I consider it the lovechild of Icon and High Strung (*love* Icon, and am lukewarm about High Strung). With a it’s sheer, grayish-taupe base, Gleam also has a touch of purple and it’s silver frost is done the right way (not too white-ish or over the top), it’s not the easiest color to wear. I can understand the metallic, robot and cyanosis comments, colors like this just walk that line. I’d say if you can wear purple-grayish lip colors then Gleam will work. Like another reviewer said, make sure your teeth are nice and white before you sweep this on. I’m quite pleased with Gleam and find it easy to wear, I just apply a light layer, no need for liner or a mirror...it’s been my most reached for lip color this summer. I’m a fan of MAC lipsticks (except for the lustres) so no complaints about the formula or otherwise. Will most certainly repurchase. Nw15-20, light green eyes, pigmented lips, blondish/brown hair. COLOR COMPARISONS: Icon is more brown and High Strung is more pink than Gleam. Gleam sits comfortably right in the middle of these two.

This is one of my favourite lipsticks at the moment. I can't explain what colour it is because it really is a unique colour. I have dark hair, medium skin tone and green eyes and it's very flattering on me.

I'm a NC/NW20 (very neutral) with dark blonde hair, green eyes. Wearing this lipstick instantly makes me look like I am FREEZING COLD. Wow, fun trick! But not pretty. It should be called "Cyanosis." It's very metallic looking (good call on the 'robot' descriptions earlier) and not at all flattering on me. This could look fine on someone of different colouring (darker NW's maybe?) and perhaps I'll give it another shot when I'm tan this summer. In the meantime it has been relegated to the bottom of my stash.

I purchased Gleam on a whim thinking it would be great coupled with a smokey plum eye that is lined with black liquid eyeliner. I understood it to be a lavendar metallic frost and found that to be true, however much more sheer and less nude than I was hoping for. It is described by MAC as a glaze, and I guess I was just uneducated and didn't realize that a glaze was going to be so sheer and less like a true frost l/s the kind I'm familiar with. I like the way the color looks in the tube, it looks like a frosty metallic mauve with a hint of lavendar. However there are pink undertones when you apply it to a tissue and I do sense an undertone of pink that makes my skin appear ruddy. I am PPP with yellow green eyes and I lean more towards yellow/peach undertones. I look awful in any kind of pink toned lipstick, any pink toned lipstick needs to have major brown undertones in order for me to get away with it. I would recommend gleam for someone who wants the look of a nude/frost lipgloss look. If you have pigmented lips you will need to load this one on to get a more lipstick look. If you want that lipgloss sheer look than this is for you. I would recommend this for someone who has blue or dark brown eyes. I have golden green eyes and it just didn't work for me. My skin and eye color were at odds with the pinks in this shade. Dark brown eyes look awesome in plum/purple type colors and this might be a nice nude/frost to try with that look. I also can imagine a blonde with blue eyes and fair complected looking striking in Gleam too. I already tested it on my olive skinned black haired/dark brown eyed friend and it looked much better on her, but she has very lightly pigmented lips. I will see how it looks on my sil who is fair complected with light hair and blue eyes next.

This is a very sheer nude pink. It looks a bit metallic on me. It was put on me at an application at a freestanding store, and it looked great there, but I think that was because the MA put a lipglass over it. Wouldn't buy again because it sort of washes me out.

This isn't the absolute worst color in the world, but I definately won't purchase it again. The color is so blah, there is absolutely nothing special about it.

I love this color! I'm a blonde PPP w/ blue eyes, and when the MA showed me this color, I thought, ewww, this is too brown. But it's not! It is a beautiful shimmery lavender/rose, not too dark or too light, just right! I too wish it would last longer, but it is so nice and moisturizing that I don't mind reapplying! Looks great with a variety of Lipglasses on top too!

I buy this lipstick all the time-- my only complaint is that it doesn't last longer! I'm a PPP and what I love about Gleam is that the color is not overwhelming on me. It's pretty neutral and shimmery. I love this!

Gleam is my favorite MAC lipstick - a pretty, shimmery neutral rose (this worked much better for me than Sequin). I like MAC lipsticks - they have a nice, creamy texture, wonderful staying power, and a huge color selection.

i love gleam- i have pigmented lips, and this is kind of a really muted berry with silvery mauve tones. that isn't the best description, but this is a very unique colour and it's hard to do it justice. i'm a blonde PPP and normally can't pull off any lavender tones on my lips (Cultured lipglass was AWFUL on me) but this has enough warmth to work. this is great for a more polished, pulled together look and i always get compliments when i wear it.
