I bought this hair dye a few days ago from the supermarket, shade 9A, and at £4 - cheap compared to my usual nice n easy liquid dye - I thought I'd picked myself up a bargain! But then I got home and read numerous reviews on the product before using it, and was definitely shocked by the high percentage of reviews slating it, I had visions of my scalp burning and my hair falling out! I used it anyway...
The packaging isn't the most exciting, but who cares really?
The instructions were simple and easy to follow.
The whole foam situation, which I was skeptical of, was fine. I literally shook the bottle three times, left it to settle for a minute, and found with a slight squeeze of the bottle - which the instructions say to hold upright - the foam came out no problem.
I must admit, the first thing that struck me was the smell, it took my breath away (not in a good way) with a strong smell of rank ale. This was easily forgotten about after a couple of minutes.
Applying the dye was so easy, there were no drips and it took ten minutes, and I have fairly long hair. I found one bottle was just enough.
Soon after application came the itching. Jesus Christ it was itchy for about five minutes, but any dye with hydrogen peroxide is going to itch...
I recommend, as do clairol, to do a skin and hair test beforehand - if you try it before you commit to putting the whole lot on your hair, then you won't have any surprises when you have an allergic reaction, just saying!
Anyway, washing your hair and using the conditioner sorts the smell and minor itching right out, and I can say that I'm pretty pleased with the results, and after seeing how it stays over the next month, will most likely buy this again.
This is the first time I've ever written a review, I just felt strongly that someone had to stick up for this product, not everything is as bad as some reviews make out.

Would never buy again, I have used many different brands of hair dyes over the years, usually buy whatever is on sale but this product made my scalp burn then the residue from the dye stayed all over my scalp until washed a few times and my head was itchy for days, I have never had that kind of reaction to a hair dye before. The foam bottle is also a pain, you have to keep squeezing the bottle instead of pumping it out, it was just annoying. I bought this on clearance in Target, now I know why, not worth it!!!

I wish I would've seen these reviews before buying this product. It was awful, will NEVER buy again. Foam was hard to apply to roots only, color ended up coming out darker, itched scalp, and smelled horrible. Don't know why I switched from my usual product. I guess I wanted to try something new but will go back to my usual trusted product.

My first time using this product but have been dying my hair for 10 years. Bought a dark brown color which ended up looking more of a blue black. Did an allergy patch with no reaction after 24 hours. But 3 days after dying my hair I awoke with a horrible rash on my neck, chest, ears and arms. Color is starting to fade after only a week and it did not cover my grey hair. Very disappointed in coloring properties but loved the ease of the process.

This product was the worst hair color product I've every used. The foam was very hard to handle on my roots and then the rest of the hair. I had to use 2 boxes and the color was not as seen on the box. I'll got back to Garnier, as this stuff is awful.

HUGE MISTAKE. I used this almost a YEAR ago and still can't get away from what it did to my hair. I used Light Ash Brown (my natural color), followed the directions to the letter, and ended up with BLACK hair!!! After several weeks, it lightened to a dark brown. Nothing I've tried to lighten it has done a THING! A few months after this fiasco (new growth about 1-2 inches), I used a highlighting kit (that I'd used many times before) to try to lighten up my head via highlights. The highlighting only worked on the new growth!! Any hair that had been colored by the foam stayed exactly the same dark brown color! I had stubby little inch long "highlights." I had to dye the roots/stubby highlights a dark enough brown to blend in. I have had to continue to darken my roots for nearly a year. The original foam use was in Nov 2011. In Sept 2012, I attempted to lighten my hair again, thinking that maybe it had been long enough. Nope. Every inch of hair that was touched by the foam is stubbornly dark brown! Grrr!!! I am fair skinned with light brown eyebrows. Having such dark hair that I can't escape sucks! My only choice appears to be to grow it out or chop off my long hair. (I'm 35 now, my hair doesn't grow down to my waist as easily as it used to - it's a painstaking process to keep it healthy enough to be long) I have been dying and highlighting my own hair (and friends' hair) for years and have never had a problem like this. I can't believe a stupid coupon for $3 off led me to the worst hair disaster I've ever had. I suppose if you wanted dark brown hair, then this would be great. Long long long lasting color. But mine was supposed to be LIGHT brown not BLACK and NOT DARK BROWN

This is probably the worst hair dye ever. It smells so bad, I even have shivers remembering it now. The result was really disappointing, All of the colour ended up near my roots and gave me a very uneven hair colour. It stained my scalp and took me a week to get the colour off my scalp. Looks like I'm using my loreal hair dye for any future hair colouring. Will never buy again.

This product smells so bad. I had thicker blond hair that is dyed dark brown/black and this barely covered my hair enough. I actually had to do an emergency run to the store to get normal dye to add to it just to even out the color, that how little dye they give you. Over all this product sucks if you have medium to long hair. If your hair is short you will probably love it.

I've used this a few times. I think around 3 times total. In the beginning I loved this product, because compared to traditional boxed dyes, the foam is so much better to use that you can't even compare. However, I've tried two other foam dyes since and this is probably the worst one I've tried so far. It smells bad, the foam doesn't spread as nicely and it tends to become liquid-y and still drips. The absolute worst aspect of this product is how much it stains your scalp- I dye my hair black so this looks atrocious. Right after coloring, the hair is too dark and too one-dimensional in color and needs a week of washing to fade to a better more believable color. However, the color also fades too quickly. Will not repurchase.

If you have very thick hair I do not suggest this at all. I thought maybe it'd be nice and easier to do myself then other dyes, but I was wrong. It smells horrible it's messy. The color didn't even last very long at all.

I've been dying my hair for 15 years and never had a reaction until I used this product. I did the patch test and all was fine, then 48 hours after I then applied the hair dye, my head swelled up and I had what looked like burns all over my neck. I went to my local walk in centre up the hospital and I was given fexofenadine hydochloride this blocks the effects of a chemical which causes the reaction after a week I was back to normal. My advise do not put on your hair.

As others mentioned, this smelsl like rotten beer, but it disappears after shampoo your hair. The final color is a little bit darker than the box. It leaves hair kinda silky, but in the next days, my hair was very straw like. It fades faster than my loved john frieda foam. Not repurchase.

I had a 4$ off coupon and I only use foam dyes now so I picked this up in black.
colored well and even
Love the squeeze instead of the pump, that can get slippery.
But I CANT STAND the smell! It was disgusting.
Like rotten beer.
that is worth 2 stars off because I know I can get the same result without the horrid smell.
Will not be buying again.

I discovered this dye, (4 Dark Brown) on a YouTube review:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6TqBjgiKRs
This is a good dark brown color. It is dark, but still "brown" - not black. Also it is a neutral brown, and not warm/brassy - so it works with my cool skin tone.
I have a few stubborn white hairs in the front, that can be tough to cover, but I got 100% grey coverage with this product.
There is absolutely no color fading, even though I wash my hair daily! (And my shampoo isn't for colored hair.)
I see what people mean about it being messy and easily splashing. The foam is so light and fluffy and spatters easily, so this was the messiest color application I've ever experienced. You really need to be careful :S
Other then the mess, I actually prefer foam and mousse colors now. They make application so much easier, faster and the results are better.
I will repurchase this, if they are sold out of Garnier - Nutrisse Mousse in Dark Intense Brown. That one is my absolute favorite.
