After receiving a sample of this, I didn't like it... at all. My first time trying it at night to remove heavy mascara and eyeliner, I felt this was too thin and runny. The second time trying it, I used it in the morning with a cotton square and followed with a swipe of LUSH Eau Roma Water. So simple... and my skin felt soothed at this point. I then applied LUSH's Celestial moisturizer (which pairs well because of similar ingredients)... and I am now loving the results, just clearer better balanced skin.... no breakouts and my makeup applies smoother. I find *9 to 5* to be the perfect balance between a heavy emollient make up remover (think Pond's cold cream or LUSH Ultrabland) and those watery types that wreak of alchohol and other irritating/drying ingredients. This product is not greasy, does not leave that icky-sticky film that others do, yet it is extremely gentle and non--stripping. I have suffered most of my adult life with skin issues, rashes, and sensitivities due to Lupus, so skin care had become very a frustrating and upsetting chore. In the past I had been over-doing it, obsessed with getting my skin clear incorrectly thinking "more is better or stronger is faster". Finding the rare product which works well without consuming too much effort or time, is such a relief and a blessing to me.

Gosh I wanted to love this product like I love Angels on Bare Skin but I failed. I used this for about one month as a gentle make up remover (I only wear sun scream for most of the times) and my skin broke out. Never have pimple problem but have got 3 huge ones (2 in my chins and 1 in my rose) and my skin became so oily shin during the day. I tried to identify which step was wrong and this product is the only new member in my skin care line. It felt so oily after I use it and follow that I still use a strong cleaning form but still can't totally get ride of the oil feeling. It definitely caused my face producing extra oil and can't get cleaned completely. Won't buy again. Not a good choice for combination to oily skin for sure.

I really, really wanted to like this. The synthesised chemicals are waaaay down the list, which gave me hope. Oh so much hope. Then I used it.
Bit of back story- I used to use Lush's ultra bland cleanser, but let's be fair- it feel like spreading Crisco on your face. I wanted something with a lot of natural ingredients in it, because I find anything with a lot of chemicals in it strips my face, and can react badly with my skin (i've absolutely nothing against chemicals though, I really don't. Back in my acne days it was pretty much the more the better). So I went into Lush, and an assistant pointed me to this- something light and most importantly to me, in a bottle. I hate anything that comes in a tub.
So I used it as per instructions, wipe on, work in, wash off thoroughly. And the next morning I woke up a big scaly mess. I had what I can only term a VIOLENT reaction to this. It was awful, it was itchy, it was uncomfortable, and it was embarrassing. I let it clear up, and after about three weeks (optimum healing time for me!) I gave it another go, just so I could be sure. I willing put my face up against the cleanser again, for definitive proof. Scientific method 101. Same result, same scaly skin.
Long story short- I'm sure for some people this is the best thing for your skin, and it works well for you. For me, it was a really terrible thing to use. So for any other people who have sensitive, dry skin who want a gentle cleanser, I would recommend you steer very clear of this one. I will give it this though- the bottle was really handy to use. Much more hygienic than the pots Lush usually use, I wish more of their stuff was sold like this.

I think this product is a great cleanser for lazy people like me. I use it when I'm feeling lazy because it doesn't need water and is so easy to use. It also doesn't leave a tight feeling like other cleansers might. It feels a bit sticky after you wipe it off but eventually it will sink in and you'll have soft, clean skin.

This used to be my only cleanser for nearly 7-12 months. It wasn't overly stripping, removed makeup and was basic in terms of bottle design and hygienic. Slowly my skin started to get a little more red and a little more angry and I never put two and two together... All of a sudden my eyelid would start swelling and i was blaming my mascaras and dietary conditions and all sorts, only to realize my eyelid had swelled beyond recognition for days at a time because of this cleanser! My eyelid would itch then swell and puff like crazy, nearly cutting off my vision, and the skin would crack and flake off in big pieces. The most horrendous sight to be seen. It'd take at least 3 days to look somewhat normal and then an entire week plus a day or two to be entirely gone. I nicknamed the reaction the "Quazimodo" effect. It was disasterous. Now i have hyper sensitive lids that are permenantly dry and a bit flakey until I can find a product to try heal this hidious reaction. I hope this serves as a solution to my fellow devoted natural skin care lovers in case they cannot find what is causing reactions and hopefully saves a few unsightly messes and anguish over the exhaustion of ideas to what could cause such irritation in those of us unfortunate to strike it :(

I have a high tolerance for heavily fragranced cleansers (Chanel purete mousse) or chemical smelling ones (holla at Kiehls washable cleanser), but danggg this here is on another level. I cannot deal with this smell. Yes it removes makeup, its affordable, good packaging.. But the smell makes this a miss.

I am on such a lush kick lately. 9 to 5 is a thick moisturizing cleanser to me, and I really like it now that it is getting drier out because it does not irritate my skin. I don't really like it for washing off makeup, it doesn't really make a dent on my eyeliner or mascara. I use it in the morning when I shower to clean my face. Smells really nice too!

This is an absolutely fine product-it smells really nice, and it certainly didn't do my skin any harm (I used it with the hot cloth cleansing method). However, I think I prefer a slightly thicker cleanser, and while it didn't make my skin worse in any way, it also didn't make it noticeably better. Overall, there's nothing wrong with this product, but I think I'll try other options.

Good at taking off make up, including stubborn eye makeup. I only used it to take off eye makeup as using it elsewhere caused white heads and clogged pores. Had to follow with a AHA/BHA peel to prevent breakouts.

I have extremely sensitive, dry skin and this is the one face wash I come back to again and again. It is so light and gentle, and cleanses my face without drying it out at all. It leaves my skin feeling soft and clean. It removes eye makeup really well too. You can wash it off or tissue it off. Definitely worth the money, although it is pricy!

I quite like 9 To 5. I find it gentle on my skin & it makes it soft. It gets rid of light makeup but I don't use it to take heavy eyeshadow or eyeliner off, I leave that to Ultrabland.
I bought the larger bottle & it has lasted me for a long time, It's nice & cool on my skin, doesn't have much of a scent which I like. It also doesn't irritate my sensitive skin. I will repurchase this!

I really like this cleanser, its a creamy/milky consistency which I use in conjunction with a muslin cloth once I've removed the bulk of my makeup. The fragrance is nice and not overpowering, since its main ingredient is orchid oil. The label on the bottle ciams that this clears skin up whilst hydrating it and I have to say it definitely does what it claims, any blemishes I had on my face cleared up fairly quickly. I'm definitely going to continue using this as it's cheap and does the job really well.

I no longer wear heavy makeup, so my Decleor Milk Cleanser was working fine for me. However, it is pricey and increasingly difficult to find, so I got a sample of the 9-5 and was impressed with the way it melted away mascara, eyeshadow and lipstick. Much better than the Decleor where I had to give it two go's to get it all off. The scent is a bit strange, but passable, the product does seem gentle and a final swipe with Rosewater removes any small residual. Does not aggravate my redness-prone skin and the price is very good. Need to use only a small amount.

really basic, average cleanser, great for winter, or for people with dry skin, personally i bought it for winter, and the smell was wonderful, but this really isn't my favorite cleanser
it doesn't clean well, but moisturises well, but a cleanser is suppose to do both right?
im glad about the positive reviews out there, but personally i dont like it due to it being
1) too rich for my normal- combination skin
2) doesnt clean well
3) after washing your face and patting it dry, skin feels tight

HG! I genuinely believe this product improves the quality of my skin, in terms of controlling oil production, keeping my pores clean, and preventing breakouts. It's perfect for daily use, as it's non-drying and fantastic at removing makeup. I use an exfoliator once or twice a week to really clean my skin, but I don't need or want a cleanser that does that for me ... cleansers that claim to do it all usually end up irritating my skin.
This stuff's so easy to use! I massage a small amount onto my face and remove the product with a makeup wipe or damp towel. I then follow with toner (my favourite being Lush Breath of Fresh Air) to remove any residue and finish with a light moisturiser. This cleanser gets extra points for not needing water to use. Nothing beats a skin regimen I can do while lying in bed as I'm already falling asleep.
The scent's nothing special. The packaging is also a bit crap, as my cap broke off/in half, but that's not going to stop me from buying this again as soon as I run out. For the record, I've been using this every day for about half a year, so the bottle lasts a fair while.

I use this product strictly as a makeup remover, and I LOVE it. It takes of even the most stubborn of make up gently and with ease. I apply a small amount to my entire face, including the eye area, and then wipe it off with a cotton pad & it takes off EVERYTHING! It's better than any makeup remover that I have ever used & it smells very nice - light & floral-y. I have had problems with removers being too oily or too drying, and this is neither. It actually leaves the skin feeling quite moisturized.
But, I always follow up with a cleanser/acne wash after using this product to clean my skin. It does an awesome job of taking off my makeup, but it doesn't leave me with that "clean" feeling. However, I do have combination/acne-prone skin, so that may be why. I love this product, I highly recommend!!

I went ahead and bought this without getting a sample. At $16 AUD, it was pretty expensive compared to my old cleansers (I used apricot scrub and QV). It was less expensive than the Aqua Marina though and way less messy. I think I keep getting sucked into the 'it will last way longer" spreel.
Anyway, I've only started using this and I love it. Even though I follow this with Celestial, I dont think it needs much moisturising after, and its really quick and easy to use. I find the smell lovely and it hasnt made me break out. Its got pluses for being able to take off eye makeup (which Aqua Marina never did) and it makes my skin feel soft after.

For quite some time I have used Lush's Ultrabland cleanser, but it is rather heavy (ok, let's face it, it's a bit like spreading Crisco on your face). I live in Florida, and though I love how thoroughly clean Ultrabland makes my skin, it can add a bit too much oil as well. Well, enter 9 to 5. It cleanses as effectively as Ultrabland, but is so much easier to remove and leaves my skin with almost no residue (Ultrabland always leaves some residual oil behind).
It is a bit fussier to use than typical cleansers. In my experience you cannot slather it on wet skin, rub for a few seconds and then rinse with water. 9 to 5 requires a bit more effort, which not everyone will want to sign on for. This is how I use it: squeeze out a tiny amount onto my fingertips, rub over my eyes for about 30 seconds, then wipe my eyes with either a tissue or cotton ball, removing all my eye makeup. Then I take a bit more in my palm, and then rub this all over my dry face for about a minute, really massaging it in. Then I wet a washcloth or muslin face cloth and rub all the cream off. I do the eyes first because it makes the washcloth really gross to get mascara all over it. I then spray a healthy amount of Lush's Eau Roma toner all over my face and wipe that off with a cotton ball, removing the last traces of the 9 to 5.
I have sensitive, yet slightly oily skin that also suffers from rosacea (which leads to bumps on my cheeks that can peel as well- so my skin can be oily and flaky at the same time). This cleanser seems to be decreasing my skin's oil production, decreasing the rosacea reaction than can lead to flakiness, and is not clogging my pores as of yet. I have been using the product for about 3 weeks.
EDIT: Sigh. After using this for almost 2 months, it has started to irritate my face. Over time I developed these little bumps all over my forehead (not red, just bumpy) and my cheeks started to get flaky. It is not unusual for me to have a product work for a little while and then just stop, and that is what has happened here. Taking it down a few lippies.

im sure my five star rating for this product says it all, but i truly love this product. for about three years now, ive had these horrible pimply bumps on my forehead that would not go away. i tried everything: everything i could find at the supermarket/drugstore, horribly strong prescription acne treatments, you name it, it went on my skin. what was particularly frustrating about these pimples was that all through high school, i had wonderful skin. people complimented me on how lovely my skin looked and it was easily my best asset. then, i started college and i broke out. i eat very healthy (id say 90% of my diet is macrobiotic), i exercise frequently, i do everything right... and yet i still had these pimples.
i finally turned to lush after being intrigued by their products for a while. the first skincare product i tried was the wonderful mask of magnaminty which did make a difference to my skin, but it wasnt the absolute miracle product to banish my pimples. i used this product simply as a makeup remover (and not a treatment cleanser which is supposed to do all the hard work)... and yet after using this, my pimples faded noticeably! i used another makeup cleanser for a while and the pimples returned, then i used 9 to 5 again and my pimples kept fading away! three long years i have waited for my forehead to become smooth again, and the day has finally arrived. i know it probably seems a bit silly that im making such a big deal out of this, but lets face it (no pun intended?), the way we look does have an impact on how we feel and this product is making my skin glow.
i would give this a four star rating because of its less-than-sparkling ingredients list (im sure a lot of us by now have caught on to the fact that lush isnt quite as natural as they like to make out, especially on their continued use of parabens and sulfates in their products), but the vain me is loving the fact that my skin has finally cleared. i would like to try ultrabland next but i will most certainly return to this fabulous product. thank you lush!

This is a great makeup remover. Gentle for sensitive and irritated skin.
My only complaint is the greasy waxy feeling I get after using it.
It's manageable though, as I always wash my face with a different wash after removing makeup with this.
If you need to take stubborn makeup off in a gentle way this is the way to go. But if you're using this alone, expect to feel that 'filmy' feeling on your skin afterwards.
While I personally don't like that feeling, I can see how one might be drawn to this cleanser, as I feel it would serve well to moisturize skin, that is if you don't mind the feeling.
