I recently did a review on this product in my blog! You can check out the full content at www.bombinate-kate.blogspot.ca I also wrote a post regarding my current routine that have helped me in reducing breakouts :) hope it helps!

Essentially, this product really helps in terms of reducing the amount of time a pimple exists on your face. By no means will this product make your bumps disappear the next day, but it does speed up the process considerably.

Treating Nodules
In the last posts I had mentioned that I used to get nodules, a pimple that develops deep within the skin with no openings. It takes about a month for nodules to go away on their own ; however, with the help of ED, it usually flattens after two weeks. Unfortunately, the scar it leaves lasts way longer than a month... Scars are something ED isn't particularly effective against.

Treating Whiteheads and Pustules
The results of ED in terms of treating whiteheads and pustules are much more visible. Whiteheads are tiny white pimples that appear on the skin with no pain while pustules are inflamed, pus-filled whiteheads that stings to the touch. Whiteheads usually go away the next morning after I apply ED the previous night.

In terms of pustules, the redness is usually reduced significantly the next day. The pustules themselves no longer stings upon touch. The pustules are turned into something akin to a large whitehead after a single night. At the same time, it's visible that pustules that have been treated with ED dry up. They would also usually disappear after two nights of application.

Using ED to Prevent Pimples
I would definitely use ED in preventing pimples. If I feel any bumps or flat areas that hurts, I would apply ED that night. Usually, by the second day, the small bump would disappear or the area becomes painless. If ED is applied early enough (before the pimple had a chance to develop), I can turn a possible nodule into a pustule, and a pustule into a whitehead. Thereby, greatly reducing the severity of the breakout and time needed to recover.

Application
Usually, products containing SA dry out the skin, but ED is an acne treatment as well as a hydrating lotion. I use it as a spot treatment, only dabbing it onto one small area at a time, so I've never experienced flaky skin with ED.

There are no weird sensations after application, it's a whitish lotion that is not thick in consistency. It also contains somewhat of a fragrance. A 40 ml bottle will last a long time if it is exclusively used as a spot treatment.

Conclusion
La Roche-Posay's Effaclar Duo is a paraben-free hydrating lotion that greatly reduces the time it takes for a pimple to disappear. It does not dry out the skin and contains 0.5% Salicylic Acid. This product has been widely praised by many users, and has been recommended to me by many friends. In addition, I personally really like the results that ED provides.

This product works so well for me. I have suffered for years with adult hormonal acne and have tried product after product.

I stumbled across a review of this product and after um-ing and ah-ing for a couple of days, bit the bullet and purchased.

I amso happy I took the plunge, my chin purged for a couple of days but nothing like the painful cysts I was constantly experiencing before. A couple of tiny zits with heads popped up, promptly left and I have been left with almost breakout free skin since. I have had one pimple since my purge ended and it was not a cyst like I usually get. Big improvement, and if things continue a new HG acne control product.

This baby left my skin so nasty just 3 days after use. And I really disappoint with it.
1. A brief description about my skin: I have oily-combination skin with acne-prone ... so typical and complicated, hah :) Currently, I mean before using this product, I did not have any acne left, just the redness (or scar) in 2 cheeks. I used to have many acnes there but now these places seem to calm down. Some people call that condition "underneath acne" - meaning not active ances but more like a pattern and acnes could come back any time in those areas. So my purpose when buying this Effaclar product was to killing those underneath acnes completely and in the same time act as a mosturizer for my oily skin.

2. My usage dose: On the 1s day of use, every thing seemed fine. I used it the whole face for mosturizing and a second layer in particular places having underneath acnes. I used it twice, in the morning after waking up and in the evening before bed. Before using it, I washed my face with Garnier So Fresh for oily skin and toned with Garnier PureActive for oily skin, which is my daily routine. If there was not Effaclar, I just apply mosturizer right after.

3. The consequences: after 2 days (=4 times using) my face started to have white heads on 2 sides of the nose, and 2 new pimples: 1 per cheek, near the jaw line. I freaked out, yet still hoped that it could be the way this product works: it activates pimples first and kills later. Some part in my mind still had hope for it and pray that there might be some thing else causing the diaster. So I decided to give it 1 more chane. This time I did not apply the whole face, just the ances only. And I also apply 1 small amount on the right side of the forehead, above my eyebrow. This place is clean and almost never had pimple so I tested it there to see if there is any new pimple. And today I woke up with a new pimple exactly over there...voila..... :((((

So now I am writing this review because I am completely persuaded that this baby does not love me in spite of my high expectations for her at the first place. I was aware of some minor complaints which had the same situation with me but I kept thinking may be I belonged to the majority....oh boy, I was so wrong...now I have to use The Face Shop Tea Tree oil to clear the war zone :((((((

So I hope that my review will help. I believe that this product works ... on some people but not people like me. This is why I shared more details on my condition for your reference. So girls, watch out! And good luck to the beauty fight. :)

I really really really disappoint with Effaclar. It wastes my money, caused me more harm than good. I even looked up EVERY single ingredient before buying and was ensured that those are good one. Mayby too much is not good :((((

P.S: this is so wierd since I alreay got the La Roche Posay CICAPLAST BAUME B5 (Multi-purpose/soothing repairing balm) which worked so well in emergency cases. This is another reason for me to decided a go with Effaclar but it seemed that not everything under the same brand works.

This stuff is magic. If I feel a spot coming up, I dab a tiny bit of this on and often it disappears. This is not a moisturiser - I remember reading the instructions that came with it and it made it sound like this product was a moisturiser - it definitely is not (I tried once applying this to my whole cheek when I was bored and it dried out the WHOLE area and made it look like leather... don't make the same mistake I did!). I treat this as a spot treatment and it is perfect. I have combination skin, no blemishes but occasionally I get a really horrible spot on my chin or by my nose. It works well with the effaclar purifying foam wash for oily sensitive skin. Will be buying again. (This stuff does last ages, I have only bought it once and it has lasted me 1 year and 3 months..)

I wrote a long review in the other slot for this (Labeled "US version") and I sung it's praises. However, after using a tube, I decided that I can't really use drying actives like this for my sensitive skin. I still stand by this being one of the best BP treatments and even for my skin, I can use this with better success than I have had with things like chemical exfoliants and other perscriptions. So I do still think it's a great product but my skin is acne prone yet sensitive and I just don't have the same type of acne other people have, so for that reason I don't really use it anymore. I will attach the original review below just in case people want to see my original opinion.

-----------------------------------------------------------

We need to talk about this, right now. I have been itching to review this for the entire time I had it, a short (yet miraculous) two weeks, but I held off. I wanted to give myself time to get adjusted to it and be able to write a thorough review.

I first tried benzyl peroxide a few years ago with Kate Somerville's Anti-Bac Clearing Lotion and I couldn't hate anything more. I don't know if it was because of additional prescriptions, but my face was a dry, disgusting AND a broken out mess. NO NO NO. I swore off any BP treatments even though I heard great things about this. Throughout that time, I continued to suffer horrible unrelenting adult acne, that no cleansers, pills, creams, natural remedies or prescriptions fixed. And I tried a LOT of them.

One day, really out of the blue, I was sick of a cluster of erupting pimples/cysts beneath the skin of my right cheek, which is always the worst spot for me, and just went and grabbed it. I asked a few sales people about it, but by that point I was just like, EFF IT ALREADY I'm going to at least try. I'm glad I did..... I'm actually upset I waited so long. I def can't say it cleared my cysts over night and I'm not going to say I'm totally clear. Most especially because I'm a notorious picker and I'm actually on medication for that too. But in two weeks I've seen a drastic improvement and the ones that come up have actually healed really well. My skin was SO bad, that I used to think I wasn't sensitive and reacting to ingredients, that I just developed bad skin later in life. It was NOT true. It was all about ingredients and this helped even when I was still using some of the problem products. (It took a while to figure out, but I can't use certain glycols and siloxanes.) So considering how my acne was still being fueled before figuring out what I break out to, and how much worse I make it by touching it, I'm more than impressed this has even made a dent. But of course, what comes with it is less spots to pick since I'm actually healing up and not breaking out as often. And this is just the first two weeks.

I've heard you can't stop BP once you start and that sucks, but at this point I've hidden for too long. I just need clear(er) skin. I started by using this just as a spot treatment in the am and all over at night. Most days now I just spot treat with this, since all over every day can be a bit much for me, but I still do it all over a few nights a week, just to be safe. While I've had some dryness around my mouth in the form of light ashyness, and some where my scabs are healing, especially as they dry out and fall off, I haven't had those sickening overly dry patches like I did before. I also use a light brown sugar as a scrub to combat that and it works magic as well as a thin layer of jojoba oil. This is much gentler on sensitive skin. I also haven't seen any bleaching of my clothes or pillowcases. While this does make you a bit more photosensitive which I already am, I haven't gotten burned any easier with this, I just feel hotter in the sun on my face. I also was slightly itchy in the beginning which I've heard can happen, since it *is* drying your skin out. But my acne makes me itch anyway, and your skin will get used to that and it will stop fairly quickly. I also try to use moisturizer but I still have bad luck when I apply it (I tend to get new pimples) so I hope to add that back in soon, but in the meanwhile, even without it my skin is holding up which is miraculous. I recommend moisturizer when possible though, or jojoba if you can, to replenish the dryness.

Additionally, you need so little of this that you really are getting a great value, especially if it works. I often use this much more than twice a day on some spots and I still have tons left and haven't killed my skin yet. As I continued it, and took the products/ingredients that I react to out, I just need this less and less, but I still use it - daily. It's gentle but effective. I will buy this again and again.

Sorry this is so long, but in short, I can't stress enough for people with stubborn acne to try this...not all BP treatments are created equally!! I haven't tried any other products from this brand but I'm super happy with this one. Been using it for a while and quit antibiotics and other prescriptions for skin. This is a major HG for me.

Update: I used most of this but I didn't end up repurchasing only because my skin is so sensitive that I kind of have to be careful with things this strong/acne products and so I don't tend to use them all over. I dry out easily and that causes more problems. SO I do think this is one of the better formulas out there.

I used the 3 step system which included this, the cleanser (which I love and have repurchased around 12 times as I go through it quite quickly) and the toner (which is good but I prefer using a natural/hydrating toner. Anyway, it cleared up my skin pretty well, but now about six months down the line my skin is having a bit of an issue again and so I repurchased a tube of Effaclar Duo. It is working, but it's almost winter here and this makes my skin flake like hell if I don't slather on s**tloads of cream. And I can't put too much cream on because my skin will break out, it's that sensitive. My active acne is dotted around my face so now I just dot it on and let it work overnight.

You have to give it time and work with it, but it does work great.

Effaclar Duo [+] has been effective over time for me. At first I thought it was a dud as it felt mild on my skin unlike the treatments I had used as a teen. How sad is it that I expect something irritating? Anyway, I picked this up for the hyperpigmentation I got from an angry bout of acne. That has resolved. I use it every morning and most evenings. The consistency is thin. So it's light but still moisturizing. My cheek area is my problem area regarding pores (size and blackheads). I have seen improvement there as well as in the severity of breakouts.

This lotion contains benzol peroxide which irritates my sensitive acne-prone skin. So I can and will only use it as a spot treatment and with caution. But if you like BP and it works on your skin, go for it! I prefer lotions with salicylic acid (BHA).

I used this when I was having a phase of very bad skin and it really cleared up my spots and got rid of any scarring. It is a really light texture and absorbs into my skin super fast. It has a nice clean smell and a tube lasts ages as you only need a small amount.

Just ordered my 3rd one of these, got it for ten pound from escentual.com rather than boots at £15, I had acne scars and do feel like this has helped to minimize them and have been using it for months now and I use this all over my skin as the uk version is ok for doing that :)
