I used to hate this product. I got it in a set with the gel liner (pretty decent, however the Essence Gel Eyeliner is still my HG and 1/3 of the price), the limitless eyeliner pencil (complete crap) and this cream eyeliner.
Every time I applied it with an angled eyeliner brush I found that it wasnt a true "black" and would smudge in the matter of minutes. So I ended up throwing it in the back of my makeup drawer filled with expensive crappy products I can't bear to throw out because of the amount of money I paid for them.
Regardless, I sort of rediscovered it the other day and decided to use it. I 'primed" my eyelids with Mac's Painterly (a generous amount), then used the 'Like Mink' Clinique duo and decided to line my eyes with this. First of all, I realized I need to use ALOT of product. I coated my brush and to my surprise it ended up coming out as a true matte black. The staying power was shocking, it actually stayed ALL DAY and looked fantastic. I got asked by a few co-workers what I had lined my eyes with.
My essence gel eyeliner is my HG product for my eyes at the moment at at $4 you can't go wrong, however it does have that "shine" effect which can sometimes come off to strong especially for day looks at the office etc.. The Smashbox Cream liner as long as you have a tough base on your eyelids comes off extremely matte, black and is fantastic for "natural" eye looks.
Ladies! Dont throw this product away, it is absolutely fantastic. Just play around with different bases and you will see how amazing it truly is!

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE Smashbox eyeliner. It always goes on nicely and hardly ever smears or runs.

I got the Smashbox cream eyeliner in one of their boxed specials
($60, along with other makeup items). Thank goodness, I did not pay full price for this! The application is not smooth at all and the colors are not pigmented. I was very shocked and disappointed with the quality of this cream eyeliner.

Sorry Smashbox...but this is product is cr*p. I doesn't apply smoothly, doesn't last for more than an hour, and is expensive. The only things that I like about this product are the colors and packaging. Otherwise not even free.

I found this product not to glide as well as shown on TV. I got the brown and it was hard to make both eyes evenly lined with the flat square eyeliner brush. The liner did not last through the day either. I works great on eyebrows though.

I have this in a duo in caviar and cameo (black and a redish brown), and i love it. Its REALLY pigmented, and incredibly smooth. I use a mini smashbox eyeliner brush to apply it, and I find that it is easier to apply and goes on darker then any other eyeliner i've tried. I did find that it smuged a bit, but i find that dusting my eyelids with foundation powder before i apply it, and then using a sponge to apply a bit more foundation along my lower lashline right under the eyeliner really helps make it last for ages. Both the colours are really nice, and i can also mix them together to get a darker brown, which gives me lots of options for different looks. The product also lasts for ages, in four years i've only ever owned two, but i wear it every day, and the first one i threw out while it was still half full, because im a germ-o-phobe and figured i should probably get a new one. Anyways, this is a GREAT product, so much easier to apply then pencil or liquid eyeliners, and it has the intesity of a liquid liner. I deffinatly recomend this!

Everyone who says it smudges is right!
However, the brush is great and it is convenient for my gym locker.

I bought the Midnight Purple and am very disappointed with this eyeliner. The color is absolutely gorgeous but It does not go on smoothly. The eyeliner is not really creamy like Bobbi Brown it is, for lack of a better word, stiff. I will not be purchasing this again.

These eyeliners have some very fantastic glittery finishes and look soft, not too opaque, when applied. I also LOVE smashbox's angled eyeliner brush. Makes a perfect line easy. However, the formula isn't too smudge or waterproof. You'll find better for less.

No, no, NO! I hated this! It looked soooo pretty in the container, shimmery grey. This stuff never set and creased IMMEDIATELY! I had to use She Laq to keep it in place at all. I don't like that I NEEDED another product to make it work at all, when I really only used She Laq to make something last for a good 12 hours. Not worth the money and I've never found a Smashbox product worth buying since. Buy L'oreal HIP cream liner, on a bogo to be safe. Not as good of a color selection, but it stays and if you don't like it you didn't spend as much and I don't think it's complete and utter JUNK.

I've been eying the Smashbox cream liners for a while, and I finally caved even though I have a Bobbi Brown addiction. This stuff is unique, let me tell you!
I got the color "Image" (a sweet color on me, it makes my eyes look BRIGHT teal) and while this is one of the lighter colors, it was more sheer than I expected. This isn't a bad thing though; this way I prefer to use it in a more smudgy fashion, as does giovannismash on youtube. So to get to the point, I suppose I mean these work like a dream with a fluffy brush like the MAC 217 all over as a cream shadow. No creasing, they stay in place all day.
The consistency is harder than other gels/creams. A pointy eyeliner brush doesn't just poke right in like with the L'Oreal liners, or even to some extent the Bobbi Brown ones. So I guess in that way it really is sort of like a kohl smashed into the container.
Took off a lippy because I bought this in December but it was broken; the product fell right out of the pan into the palm of my hand. I returned it, but my new one is still a little loose. Maybe if it were in a little jar like the Jet Set liners?
I guess a little more pigment would have been nice so as to have something in the way of eyeLINER to work with. But it's gorgeous, so I'm happy!

Hello, one day I decided I needed cream eyeliners. So I ordered 6 on ebay without ever reading a MUA review. I am so glad I did not read the reviews, as this works really well for me.
I use the Midnight Brown Eyeliner and apply to my lids with the Smashbox angled brow brush. I have somewhat oily lids and it stays on all day.
Then I use it for eyeshadow. I apply the rest of it, without getting more from the pot, right above my crease under my brow. I had been so paranoid about crepiness on my eyelids that I haven't been wearing eyeshadow for awhile. The Retinol is working to lift my lids, so I am so happy that this isn't shimmery, doesn't melt off and is the right color for eyeshadow. Someone said to me, wow, you're eyes are huge! And that's how they used to look before I got so paranoid.
I close the lid tight so they won't dry out. I gave most of the other ones away for Christmas. These stay close to the waterline, and aren't heavy. THey stay on longer than a crayon, a little less than a liquid eyeliner.

This eyeliner was very expensive and the it is not worth its price. It goes on chunky and it doesnt glide on to your eyelids.
It dries out really quickly and it smudges like crazy. i would not buy it again

Returned this product. Its horrible. No definition, color is not strong, smudges like crazy.
Much better off with other cream liners, Clinique (my fav), MAC, Bobbi Brown or even drug store brand Jane (which is a very good cream eyeliner btw)

This stuff really smudges. I begin the day with a thin line over my eyelashes and by lunchtime it somehow ends up under by eyes making me looking my a racoon. Once I apply on my makeup I don't want to have to think about it.

Do not buy this product if you don't want your eyeliner to smudge. I bought this on a whim and thought it would be a good eyeliner, but it just smudges and smears all over my face. I have not used it for years, and it's rotting away in my makeup stash. Maybe I'll recycle it as eyeshadow next time. It might have better use there. Definitely would not buy again. Turned me off Smashbox products.

I ordered this from QVC after seeing a demonstration. My mileage definitely varied :( It's notthing as described. It doesn't walk across the lid effortlessly, connecting the dots, as claimed. It takes patience and a steady hand and it doesn't dry in 60 seconds, as claimed. It requires *several* applications to get enough color and it transfers onto the upper lid within an hour or two. Then it dries to dust. I wish I had read the reviews here first. It's going back.

i love the color, the packaging and the way it goes on - the SA at sephora recommended it to me upon my request for a one-step shadow and liner situation - but that beautiful purple ended up everywhere except where i'd put it this morning - i looked like i had 2 black eyes all day. back to sephora for a refund and another go....

Smudges within hours of application. Not worthwhile if you want staying power.
