I've used this product twice daily for over 2 months. Overall I would say it's a good product and it's something I would repurchase and keep in my skincare routine.
My skin is prone to hormonal breakouts and I have a few tiny areas of hyperpigmentation from previous acne scarring. I've found myself having no breakouts at all for the past 2 months. My skin definitely looks better, smoother and less tired than it usually does (which my friends have commented on). However, I definitely don't find any lightening of the hyperpigmented areas. In terms of recommending this product, I'd say this isn't for everyone. If you just want an extra boost for your skin and don't have too many major skin concerns, this product would be great. If you have major dark spots that you want to try lightening, this won't help at all.

This product has got the be the worst garbage on the market. How companies get away with selling s@!t like this that not only doesn't do what it claims, but also irritates the skin, is beyond me. Now only was this product garbage to me, I am yet to know someone personally that liked it. Every online review site has such low ratings for this product....YET Clinique advertises it as 'the #1 product for discolorations'. HOW?! Where are they getting their info????

Doesn't really work for me and even broke me out a little. May be good with a person that has normal skin type. My acne scars are STILL here and I am switching to something else :(

I am on my second bottle of this, and I said that I would repurchase again, but I am not sure that I would. I had seriously high hopes for this stuff because I am left with a few old acne scars on my chin that I am very self conscious about. I always feel the need to wear full coverage foundation to hide them. I would love to be able to use tinted moisturizer or BB Cream more often, but I just feel that when I do, these old scars are the first thing that somebody notices.
I THINK that it has lightened some of my old acne scars... Or perhaps that is just my imagination or very wishful thinking... I mean, 49.50 USD for a 1 ounce bottle is a bit outrageous for something that I have seen little to no results from. I love the way it goes on, leaving my skin smooth and not at all weighed down, but that does not help with the old scarring so does not make me want to give it a higher rating. Also, I was told by a sales associate that it works really well as a makeup primer, but since that is not why I am buying it, I don't really care... Especially since I use a moisturizer with SPF over it to prevent sun spots...
I am doing everything to help lighten these scars, but I don't think this product is helping...

II already finished the whole bottle and gaahh!, nothing happened with my acne scars. I feel bad wasting money on this product, i just got desperate that's why i gave it a go even though it's expensive.

Well I wouldn't know if this product fades spots or acne scars because after using if for only one week, it was ruining my skin. I was developing bumpy whiteheads all over my face. I stopped using this product, and one week later my skin is almost back to its pre-Clinque form. I regret spending so much money on this product. I am feeling very annoyed and disappointed.

I have been using this product since 2009, and have found that it's great for discoloration resulting from traumatic hyperpigmentation (in my case, marks left behind from pimples), but not at all effective for age or sun spots. I'm in my mid-20s with a medium-dark complexion (MAC NC40/42). I don't get pimples frequently, but when I do, they nearly always leave behind noticeable dark spots. This product gets rid of the spots completely, provided I follow the directions (applying 2x a day, morning and night, on freshly cleansed skin under moisturizer, and using sunscreen religiously). It does take six weeks to two months for the spot to disappear completely, so patience is key.
I docked a lippie because the product is advertised for age spots/sun spots, and I don't think it makes any difference whatsoever for those types of spots. I have one small sun spot under my eye that I've been testing it out on, and while it makes my dark spots from acne disappear, it's done absolutely nothing for that sun spot. My mom (in her 50s) has also tried it for age spots, and told me that it hasn't made any difference for her either. If I had purchased this serum to get rid of those types of discoloration rather than marks from past acne, I would probably have given it a much less favorable rating than I did - but it works well for my purposes, so I can't say I'm unhappy with it.
The packaging could also use work. The pump is fine for the first ~3/4 or 5/6 of the bottle, but there is still a significant amount of product in the bottom and on the sides that it can't reach. I have to manually unscrew the top and try to get it out using my fingers, which I find to be messy and not completely sanitary, even after washing hands first. However, the product is pricey enough that I don't want to waste any, so I deal with it.

I have some unevenness and discoloration of my skin tone and I tried this product. After three bottles, I saw no results. My skin was dry and I was getting acne from it. The sames people at the counter really had no knowledge of the product or any feedback to give me either so I had to stop wasting my money on it. I bought it because of it's purpose and it seems to have worked for many people but just not for me. All clinique facial products I have tried have been too strong for my skin.

I bought this because I'd seen it had won awards and in the last year or so I've developed a dark mark on one of my cheeks that I wanted to try and fade. I'm 32, fair to medium oily skin. I've used it solidly for three months, day and night, with a good quality Estée Lauder SPF moisturiser over the top and can honestly say I've seen NO improvement. I won't be buying it again.

I do like the silky satiny texture of this when I have applied it, it feels almost like a primer. I know that it has been getting bad reviews on MUA for not doing anything much for dark spots, but I fell for the Clinique advertising hype and bought it anyway.
Paula Begoun gives it a so-so review because of the lack of published research and ingredients, and if I had read that review earlier then I wouldn't have purchased this expensive serum. I have two huge dark spots on my forehead, one is 1/2" diameter and one is 1/2" wide and almost 2" long and very noticeable. I am trying various lighteners and reviewing them along the way to find one that works. Of course, I am also using very high SPF sunscreens with the best UVA protection that I can find.
So I spot apply this to my dark spots regularly, and also like to apply this as a mask of sorts every now and again. I apply one layer, quite thickly on my whole face. I wait a few minutes, then apply another very thick layer all over my face and leave it for as long as I can (sometimes 30 mins to a couple of hours.) I then use a toner (whatever is handy) to wipe off the excess because the two layers of this serum do ball up when too much is applied. I would sleep with this thick mask on but it makes a mess of my bedsheets. After removing most of the mask I always apply another very thin layer before I go to bed then add a layer of a thicker moisturizing cream over the top (whatever I am currently using).
I haven't noticed any difference in the dark spots after using this product for a while, but I do wake up with my skin looking brighter (but that could be a result of the thick layer of regular moisturizer.) I know that using this product as a mask seems like a waste of an expensive product but since it isn't likely to lighten my dark spots I may as well use it for something! I wouldn't purchase this again as it does nothing for my skin, and I am not falling for the sales technique of using this for years because due to the lightening effect taking time.
