After being traumatised by Petticoat's high sheen (not sure if it was just my product as mine had a lot of red veinings), I wasn't too keen on MAC's MSFs. However, when seeing By Candlelight in stores, I was impressed by its quiet warm glow. So much so that I purchased this MSF both times it was lauched. The first when time when it was released in the Warm & Cozy Collection and the second when it was released during the Into the Groove collection. As it takes forever to get through one of these MSFs, I have given my backup to a friend. :)

By Candlelight is a very soft pink gold with just a teensy bit of gold. Nothing screaming obvious but enough to make you look like lit from within. I use a large fluffy ecotools face brush and dab the SIDE of the brush on the MSF before gently patting the highlight on my cheekbones. You shouldn't get an obvious sheen, just a very restful looking glow that looks good in person as well in photos. Only complain I have is the product is quite soft and I am always fearful of dropping the item as it would be a guranteed goner.

I love MSF's, so I own this. But really, I rarely use it and I think of it as a typical champagne shimmery highlight. It's nothing that other highlighters won't do, and it's not very versatile because it can't be used as a blush nor an all-over powder. It's not a bad product, it's just redundant in my large stash.

it is great for a night out, or with bronzer but on its own its soooooooo shimmery. i got the sample from a freind (full sized one- YAY), but unfortunately its not that amazing, i just top it on my bronzer on the cheekbones, it blends perfectly with the bronze color

Three words: BROKE ME OUT. And badly too. I could not figure out why I had all these red bumps all over my face. This was the culprit. I am not willing to sacrifice my skin for this product. I find it VERY over-rated. Beautiful colour, but not for me. Now I have to deal with acne scars...Thanks to Mac MSF hype. I totally fell for it.

I really wish it could have worked though. They are beautiful. But I am scarred :(

This product is the first and only MSF I purchased from MAC so far. I found I really love the product. For me, it is definitely an HG item. The color creates a pretty subtle glow on my cheeks paired with my Rock & Republic Call Me blush and happily does not cause me any breakouts! I would definitely consider repurchasing this product in the future, but not sure if I will ever hit pan!

I just got it without seeing it in person. I asked on the board a couple of times and ppl said it has no colour. I was expecting a colour-less shiny highlighter, perhaps a little like champagne but it is a pink blush! A huge one. Well, there is no way for this being a highlighter for me. I like the colour so I'll keep it as a blush. (I am NC20)

By Candlelight is my perfect highlighter.... well the search is over! god only knows how long i have been on the hunt for a highlighter that isn't cheap looking and doesn't have chunky bits of glitter or one that's not a silver-ish shade.. on my NC25-30 skin this is a perfect highlighter, it blends nicely with my skin and doesn't give an un-natural "glitter face" look.. gives a very subtle gold hint of shimmer, i love this :D

This is a really great product. In the pan it looks pinky/champagne, but when you swatch it, it has a peachy/pink sheen to it. It does not have chunky glitter, it has a very fine shimmer to it. The texture is very smooth as well. It is very light so I use it as a highlighter. You could also put it over matte pink toned blushes to give it a healthy glow. I personally wouldn't buy this again b/c I only use it as a highlighter, and I have too many highlighters. It is very pretty, however, if you only plan on using it as a highlighter I would not say it's a must have if you already own perfect topping, soft and gentle, shimpagne, or any other highlighters.

i only use to highlight my nose and cheekbones slighty. i would only buy this once, it contains enough product for me to last for a very long time. it can be used as blush or all over with light hand to give a glow to. i just love candlelight.

Out of all of the MSF I own I reach for this the most. It gives my NC20-ish skin the best "glow" without being super-shimmery. Reminds me a lot of Guerlain Meteorites. If you get a chance to get your hands on this do it!!

I really love "By Candlelight" Mineralize Skinfinish! It gives a really soft sheen to the cheeks, but for me it is too pink for a highlight, so I use it as a blush. This is a great product if you like shimmery cheek products that give you a glow, but if you are really oily, you might find that this will enhance the natural oils found in your skin (thus giving you a shiny look). I know a lot of people missed this product when it came out (they had about 2 left at my MAC counter when I went to buy one). What I would like to say is that it is a great product, but it is also a bit overrated. There are many dupes for this msf that are permanent in other makeup lines. So, don't stress if you missed out on "By Candlelight." If you do have it, then you are lucky, though, because it is a great item to have in your collection.

When this was re-released with the In the Groove Collection I went to the mall at 10 am to make sure I got mine. I had never worn any mineralize skin finishes but hadddd to try this out after seeing swatches on makeupandbeautyblog website. I fell in love with it. It's now my go-to highlighter & the first time I wore it out to dinner with my boyfriend he looked at me in the middle of dinner and said "I can't believe how absolutely beautiful you look right now and that I am with you.." whether it was just me or by candlelight's magic..who knows, but something must have been right! haha

I was over the moon when my lovely boyfriend got me this for my birthday. I saw it last time it was released, swatched it and thought it looked beautiful, but the MUA at Mac suggested Soft and gentle instead. But I kept thinking about it and was sad when it I went to get it and it was out of stock everywhere. Now that I have it, I'm disapointed, whilst it swatches lovely, I find it quite powdery and it doesn't really do anything for me. I can never bring myself to give any make up away so I use it to go over matt blushes to give then a very slight shimmer. Just doesn't work on me. Much prefer soft & gentle. (I am NC25ish)

I never knew what difference highlighters made until I stumbled upon this baby. The delicate pink color intrigued me when I was passing around the MAC counter. My dear sister saw me eyeing this product and bought it for me (how sweet!) Immediately after I got this highlighter I place it on top of the apples of my cheeks, on my nose, and chin and voila! My face had this healthy natural glow. Im still in love with this thing. I feel like this is one of those versatile highlighters that would look good on anyone and any look. I've been using it for a while, but there is still a lot of product. I usually use this with a 168 or a 116 brush. I am between an NC 35-37 right now (winter) but usually an NC 40+ (summer), either way it looks good on my skin.I just can't believe I haven't done a review for this yet lol.

As many people have said, this is the holy grail highlighter! I wear it almost every day. I use NW15 foundation, and this highlighter gives me a lovely, subtle glow. I think it would suit warm and cool toned skin of all shades, and the product itself is beautiful with a silky texture.

My holy grail highlighter! An absolutely beautiful champagne colour with a wash of pink, that gives an incredible glow to the skin. I am around NW20, and I find this works much better than MAC's soft and gentle highlighter, as it shows up more on my skin, and it is also suitable as a blush too, In the winter time, when I am the palest, I just swirl the brush in the pan, and apply without even having to think, as its just a fail-proof blush/highlighter, great for days when you are unsure what to wear!

Very glad I got this, as it gives a very subtle, glowy sheen to my NC40, Asian skin. I use a very light hand, if I'm using it as a highlighter with Mac #187 brush on the tops of my cheekbones, and in a light 'C' around the temples to the tops of my eyebrow.

Besides that, I also use it as an eye shadow wash, and as a brow bone highlighter as well.

It is a very versatile product and a lovely color. Will definitely re-purchase, but I think it'll last for awhile yet.

I'm an NC15-20 with yellow undertones and this highlight is incredibly natural looking on me. It doesn't deposit any colour, just gives me a glowy radiance that looks like it comes from "within" (oh, the cliche!)...I apply it down my nose, on my cheekbones, across my forehead and a dab on the chin. Doesn't show up as garish shimmer or glitter at all, just glow. Perfect for everyday use and a little goes a long way.

I hesitated between rating this a 4 or a 5. I'd say right in the middle.

This is a beautiful champagne-pink. It looks gorgeous as a highlight on darker toned skin and this also looks gorgeous as a blush on fair skin.

I use this typically as a highlight (with sheer application) and it really adds that glow I'm looking for. I tried this as a blush once on a day where I was just going out of the house with nothing but some concealer and wanted a little pick-me-up for my face. Gorgeous! I applied more than I normally would as a highlight and it was just a beautiful pink, lit-from-within glow.

I'm absolutely addicted to this. Have been using it almost every day since I've gotten it. I really think it just finishes off my face.

This is a champagne colored MSF that leans a little pink. I use this as a highlighter on my cheekbones and it imparts a certain glow, yet the shimmer is so finely milled that it still looks like skin. I wouldn't call this a HG highlighter because it doesn't show up well in flash photography (as all MSFs do) and I prefer a highlighter that isn't pink as I'm pretty fair. When I'm not careful, it looks like I made a mess of my blusher all over my cheekbones as the pink tones do show up on my PPP skin. I'd probably give the Dior Amber Diamond a go soon and then do a comparison. Also, the packaging is quite flimsy - the clear plastic at the top came off within days of usage.
