I actually bought this product a few years ago (I think).
I went to my fave make-up store and there was a new MAC counter, and some sort opening promotion. It was very quiet and de MUA almost fell over from enthusiasm when she saw a customer walk in.
Before I could say 'Hello' I was already in the chair and getting a make-over.

She told me about this limited edition greasepaint stick. I usually am not a fan of liners of any kind. Don't get me wrong, I love the look of them, but as soon as my hands get near my eyelids they shake uncontrollably and you can guess what happens next..

She showed me the multiple purposes like, eyeliner, eyeshadow base.. I was really in doubt whether or not to get them, and most of all: what colour?
I didn't realize at the moment (I was not into the whole MAC craze then) that these sticks were in high demand, and people were literally running to the store desperately trying to get their hands on them.

I guess since it was a relatively new store in store, the location of these new MAC wasn't really known to the public yet, which is why they still had the whole collection.

I am really not good at choosing, so I decided to get all three of them: uniformly blue, green grease and charred mauve.

Once I got home I actually regretted the purchase since the application seemed to suck for a newbie like me.

But that's all in the past! A few months ago, while digging in my unused make up drawer, I found these babies again. And I am glad I gave them another chance!!!!

I use them as eyeliner, will soon try them as a eyeshadow base. I carefully apply a, not too thick, line on my eyelids, it doesnt matter if it's a bit wobbly or uneven. After applying I use my eyeliner brush, with the short stubby hairs and with a slant (was a LE mini eye makeup brush set from last Christmas) to even it out en create an even smooth line and even get between my lashes. You really have to give it a good smear, since it is definitely not liquid and doesn't blend out easily.
However, this is not a downside for me.
Another way of application, and a bit safer If you have to rush rush: rub your eyeliner brush on the tip to get the product on te brush and then apply to your lids. The colour is a bit softer this way and less harsh, perfect If you want a more subtle look.

This is the ONLY product ever that will last the entire day (actually even longer if, it's still on after a night's sleep when I've been to lazy to remove it.) even though it rains, if it's hot, if I rub my eyes once in a while etc. Love it! Very good product for those days you just want a good lasting look.

The point can dry out a bit, the texture is not as greasy as you'd imagine by the name. Yes, it is grease, but when I think of grease I would actually expect it to be very oily and easy to blend, which is not the case. Although the does tend to dry out, this is not a problem. In the bottom of the stick, if you pull of the coloured '' cap' there is a special sharpener for your Greasepaint stick! Works like a charm, and I don't really mind if some product gets wasted while sharpening (or just scraping the top of with something sharp) since you really don't need a lot each time you use it. It wil last a really long time.

The packaging is easy to take along with you in your bag as an emergency-didn't-have-time-to-do-my-makeup-today touch me up. he only problem I have is I sometimes forget to retract the entire stick as far as possible, and If you dont pay attention while putting the cap on you can easily damage the tip and scrap some of.. Sucks at the moment, but since you don't need lavish amounts of product to get a great eyeliner I really don't mind so much, it's not really a terrible waste.

I use Bergman Clean Eyes eye makeup remover (like a two-phase cleanser part watery part oily shake first) , and it comes of easily and I don't need to rub my eyelids like a maniac. I can imagine that with a light non-oily remover it is harder to remove, since it won't budge during the day.

I am really glad I bought all three colours and will definitely purchase some more colours if they came across!

Pro's:
- Beautiful colours
- multifunctional
- longlasting, won't budge all day in almost every weather condition!
- product itselfs lasts quite a long time
- Built-in sharpener

Con's (not all for me, but can imagine for some people it is):
- Tip dries out easily, so really make sure you pop the cap back on
- Doesn't blend easily
- You definitely need an eyeliner brush to even things out (for some this may be a nuisance)
- Some are LE, harder to get by
- Some product goed to waste while sharpening/ putting the cap on.
- Really need a waterproof/ oilbased eye makeup remover (not a problem for me, but some really don't like the feel of it.)

I suggest you give it a try if you come across one of these! I really really love it, and it's also fun to experiment a bit to work out what application works best for you!

this was so expensive when i bought it, i got it as part of the venamous villains range...i dont know if its even part of the LE range but anyway, i paid a d*** and leg.
i have the one in slick black, its good, and i wear it as an eyeshadow (because i didnt know you could wear it as an eyeliner) and i find that it doesnt blend very well, and if you do blend it, you need to blend it really quickly otherwise it dries very fast. best brush to use is the one with the domed head for beldning, in a synthetic if you can find it.
because this is black and i cant really get much colour out without dragging it across my eyelid, i find that im using MAC CARBON to do the shading part right. i just use this for intensity because it is such a rich black. i always end up with half my eye black too, instead of just the corners like i wanted cause i didnt know there was a sharpener in the bottom lol so i just kinda smudge it everywhere then blend with CARBON.
i dont think id buy this again, i could probably just overlay carbon ontop of itself to get the same black dramatic look...taupographic (black) is actually better than carbon to be honest

These greasepaint sticks are the most AMAZING eyeliners (good as a base under a smokey eye as well)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I initially bought one for a very particular friend as a gift, and she loved it! I knew if it was good enough for her, then it must be amazing. I bought it first in Greengrease and when I found out they were LE, I scoured the COO's to find more colors. I now own 7 colors! The sharpener that's built into the end of the product (you have to pull out the colored tab at the opposite end) is another nice perk. As a liner, it goes on smooth and dosen't drag and leaves a liquid-like dramatic finish if not smudged. If you ever come across them at the COO (or if MAC reissues in another LE line) DO NOT hesitate to purchase.

I love this! When I bought it, the MAC artist put it on my eyelids as a shadow, which I was not a fan of. But I started using it just as an eyeliner, and it is the *best* eyeliner ever! It stays on all day & night, which is great for weekends. I highly recommend it!

I wanted to love this, and I did for the first few applications. Trouble was that it kept breaking on me, leaving me with a stumpy pencil to work with. Sharpening is a nightmare. The product in itself is good, but no use to me. I had to bin it after 5 applications, at the most

I bought my greasepaint stick from the style black collection last year. It's more of a dark blackened purple than a true black. I didn't use it much at first but I have recentley dug it out and have started using it as a liner. I use it all around my eyes and smudge it a bit. A little mascara and I'm good to go. I guess I got tired of all the blending of shadows, bases, highlights, new collections blah blah blah. It's a nice simple look and the blackened purple shade adds a nice dimension. The formula is slightly dry so if I'm not careful I end up with a little flaking and smudging. However, it's this same dry formula that makes it stay put all day. I like it..I'm glad I bought it.

I like the greasepaint stick so much I allmost finished mine (purchased from the style black collection).. But I don't know if its a necessity. If you have a black gelliner, and a black khol liner you won't be really needing this. Its nice, and very black. But you need to keep sharpening it to be able to use it as eyeliner (or else it will be too thick), so a khol liner like mac's feline is a better option.. And if you want to use a black base, I think a gelliner will do too..

So, do I love the product? YES
Do I use it a lot? YES
Could I life without it? YES

I already bought a backup, but I don't know if I would repurchase after I finish that one.. I like the product, but to me its not a must have..

I love the greasepaint sticks as eyeliner. I have both Slick Black, and Greengrease and love them both. They stay all day, up to par with the Urban Decay 24/7 liners, and perhaps even better. When used as an eyeshadow base over liner, they really make colors pop. They can get a bit smudgy when used as an eye base with no primer, so just be aware of that. Otherwise, an amazing product.

I bought this product in a taupe color in hopes it would be a long-lasting, smudging eye liner for under my eyes. It works perfectly for this purpose. I apply it under my eyes and smudge it with my finger or a smudge brush from Trish McEvoy and the smudged line lasts ALL day!!
Using it as a shadow was not easy unless I primed my lids with a little aquafor. When my lids were primed with a little "grease" it applied very well and stayed all day.

Maybe I'm stupid...nah, I don't think that's it; but I just don't get these idiotic things!!! People rave about them, and the colors, when swatched in a single line on the back of my hand, admittedly are pretty; but they never apply the same to my eyelids. They are ugly, chalky, and I look like a kid playing in some drag queen's makeup when I put them on.


The next "step" is that you are supposed to then blend them out - really quickly, I might add - to make a base for your REAL eyeshadow! Sorry, but that's what my UDPP is for. "F" that. I don't have the time or patience.


These truly do suck ass. I'm sending 'em back, Mac; return my moolah!!!

I wanted to love this product but it didn't like me =(
I got this in Uniformly Blue and Slick Black. They both wear completely different, so I'm reviewing the Slick Black elsewhere.
First of all, I bring this to a point with a tissue. It's just to get this precise I have to do that often, and it's wasted a lot of product. Second, I used this as a liner.
I've been on a blue-eyeliner bender lately and it hasn't worked out. It's supposed to make my eyes look more blue, but it makes them look green. It makes me look tired, too. The colour is a quite dark blue. Makes me wish I'd bought Greengrease.
Applying it SUCKS. It doesn't go on very evenly. And then when I tried to go over it, it lifted off the first layer. It didn't really stick to my skin. And it applied in a thick line no matter how I did it. It's sparklier than it looks in the tube as well!
The staying power for this was nonexistent. It smeared everywhere very quickly. It also irritated my eyes a bit, so I didn't even dare put it on my waterline. I doubt it would stay there though.
Overall I'm disappointed in this :(

You'd think I would know better than to buy a product for my already greasy eyelids than one with the word "grease" in its name, but I am very pleasantly surprised by this. I bought it in Charred Mauve, and it's the best purple-black -- I'm probably banned for life from buying another purple eyeliner from Sephora, because I've returned them all. They all make my light blue eyes look bloodshot or bring out my undereye circles or smudge like mad. It's like a bigger version of the Technakohl liners. I apply from the stick and then smudge with a push brush. I always wear Paint underneath, so I haven't tested the staying power without primer, but I had no transfer or creasing. I fell asleep in it (bad bad bad) and it still looked great in the morning. I wish it weren't $19, but I'm a believer. Damn you, MAC!

I'm so mehhh about this product. I even spent an hour on youtube watching tutorials, thinking that there was some hidden secret for using this.

It is a fat purplely/blue/black eyeliner that can be used as a base as well. Woopdeedoo... I love eyeliners and love dark/smokey eyes, but this is such a non-essential to me. If I wanted a black eyeshadow base, I would invest in a cream eyeshadow or a paintpot or something....not a weird stick that I have to blend (it blends poorly, BTW).

I am swapping mine probably.

This is a GREAT product! I really wish MAC would make this a permanent product in their line. It's so versatile...can be used as a liner for both thin & thick lines and a shadow base for a sexy smoky eye. What I like best about it is that once you get it place, it doesn't move! Also, the subtle purple sparkle in it is very unique.

I really wish I had purchased two of these!

I luckily scored this limited edition gem from MAC before it completely sold out. Although mine came a little bit melted from its treacherous transit, I'm still thrilled to have acquired it. As previous reviewers stated, this product is more of an intensely dark indigo-like purple with purple microglitter. However for all purposes, it appears soft black upon application. The Greasepaint Stick is perfect as a base for smoky eyes - it provides a nice dark opaque base for you to build your smoky eye upon and once you smudge it around and let it set - it really does not rub off. I'm finding that this product lasts even longer on my waterlines than MAC Fluidlines - amazing! Also the handy sharpener included at the base of the pen is nifty perchance you want to more precise tip to line your eyes, but I've yet to utilize it. I really love this product simply for it's everything-resistant magic. I hope MAC brings this back at some point, as I'll be using my sparingly until then.

I really love the greasepaint sticks. They're everything that I had hoped the shadesticks would be. I put on my eye shadow primer (I prefer Too Faced Shadow Insurance for my oily lids), then I put on the grease paint stick, and use either a brush or my finger tip to even it out. Then I pat a shadow on top of it. I've done some amazing smoky looks with this purple. I own Black, V and B, and will be picking up any new colors that come out. The packaging is ok. If you're not careful taking the lid off you can accidentally take off some of the product. You can use an angled eyeliner brush if you want to use this as precise liner. I particularly like this shade of black because of the tiny purple sparks in it.

These were really hard to find and sold out nearly everywhere. Fueled by all the hype of this both on MUA and beauty blogs, I managed to find the last one at the HK airport. After using it for a while - does it live up to the hype? Well, yes and no.

The colour's a gorgeous, complex black with hints of purple that surprisingly doesn't make me look bruised/enhances dark eye circles like most plum eye colours do. It does stay amazingly on for a long time but sadly, wasn't completely smudge free on my oily eye lids and I'd to be really careful about accidentally touching them with my fingers as it'd make a big mess. It also comes with its own sharpener so you needn't worry about finding a jumbo pencil sized sharpener.

However, that is the prelude of its downside for me. I've small eyes and prefer more precise lined eyeliners. Its chunkiness and easily blunt tip made it harder for me to get really close to the lash line. I'm also reluctant to keep sharpening it as it's limited edition (well, now for the time being) and I don't want to run out of it before I can get a spare!

On the plus side, after lining my eyes really carefully & cleaning up any messy smudges with a Q-tip, it instantly adds a goth/punk kinda vibe to your look. I love wearing this on days where I'm casually dressed (think skinny jeans, ballet pumps and a fitted cotton tee) - however I did get a comment from a small kid that I looked like (her words, not mine) "a demon".

Given the fact that I usually have a lemming for all things LE, I don't regret this purchase and if they launch it again, would probably see myself getting a spare.

This is a pretty pencil stick works as a shadow, liner, base it's so multi fuctional. Its a beautiful black purple color looks great in photos and lasts long too.

I think the concept is great, but I dont care for the texture of these. I dont find that the spread around the lid very well, and they tend to crease up wicked bad.

They are great if you want a smudged, messy look, but if you want a nice clean smokey look use shadow or even Blackground paint pot with Dark Soul pigment.

Bought this in Black and I love, love, love it!
Pencils tend to drag and tug at my super delicate eyelids (I break out in a nasty rash if I use certain brands of eyeshadows.. that's how picky my skin is) but this goes on like a creamy dream. It can do a super sharp line or I can make it smudgy as hell. It makes a great sticky base for dark mineral shadows and as it selfs sharpening I will never get large black shavings smudged into my cream carpets again! Can't beleive it's taken me this long to discover.. I'm throwing out all my pencils and buying a back up of this as soon as possible.

Like others have said, there is a tiny bit of purple shimmer but I only realised it cause I was looking very close at it and sniffing. You can't tell on the eye at all, so if you're looking for a black/purple liner then this isn't for you.
