I guess mascara is just one of those personal things. I love this stuff. What I am looking for in a mascara is something that will hold a curl without drooping, give lots of length and separation. I want crazy long lashes with no clumping, and this is why I usually hate mascaras that claim to be volumizing. I like to preserve the illusion that maybe - just maybe - those lashes are all mine without much help. I have the same approach to all of my makeup.

This stuff is great. There are so many things to love about it.

Other mascaras that are similar and liked by me: Shu Uemura Basic (RIP), Chanel Initimable, Dior Diorshow (original, not Iconic), Covergirl Lashblast Length & two from Japan: DJV Beautinizer and Kiss Me Heroine Make Long & Curl. The last two are big time favorites, and the Chantecaille is in the running to be a favorite, too.

I received this as a sample (Ipsy, I think? Or Birchbox?) and use it when I want a very understated look or for just running around doing errands. I don't get much volume, but the length and separation are just beautiful. My eyelashes stay soft, too. It's black but not a very pigmented black, so even if black is too harsh on you this could work. This is definitely not a mascara if you want drama. But if you want something that looks beautiful for the office, go for it. Personally, I just won't be buying a $42.00 mascara, but if money were no object I'd probably pick it as my go-to everyday mascara.

I expected more drama from something called Faux Cils. I think this falls somewhere between a "natural" mascara and a "dramatic" mascara. But it does give good length and volume, especially with primer. Just the right amount of oomph, my lashes don't look overly "done" yet I still achieve that wide-eyed doll-lashes look. Super-smooth application with zero clumps. No problems with smudging either. I took one lippie off because even though I like this a lot, I still feel like it's just not quite my HG mascara. I could use a bit more volume. Despite the price tag, I'd buy this again. It's worth it.

I use the dark purple shade of this mascara, which I LOVE because I'm a redhead and black mascara usually looks too harsh on me. The violet color is just bright enough to make my eyes pop but not so purple as to make it look cheesy or trashy. This mascara makes my lashes look super long, and adds a little volume. However, it flakes a LOT and is almost gone at the end of the work day... like if I do my makeup at 7:30am, the mascara is 75% gone by 5pm. In fact, when I fall asleep without washing my face, in the morning it's as if I've washed the mascara all off, because there is literally none left on my lashes as it's ALL flaked off. Which might be good or bad, depending on how you look at it.
It's not my HG, but it's a staple in my arsenal and I have been repurchasing for years, really for the color above all else. If Chantecaille could reformulate to flake less and stay on better, it would be a solid 5!

This mascara is lengthening without being clumpy. Unfortunately, it smudges under my eyes within an hour and flakes off in my eyes after 4 or 5 hours.

Yes, this is a very good mascara. It doesn't clump, flake or smudge. However, there's nothing that special to warrant the $$$$40.00 price tag. There's nothing faux cils about this. The black is not that deep dark black. The volume is not that voluminous. This reminds me of Clinique's Naturally Glossy mascara (that's $15.00). For $30.00 I will stick with GA Excess.

Good mascara for layering. Wouldn't buy again I much prefer my Haute and naughty lash from MAC.

However I would use it all up as it was ££££.

About me... I have short, thin lashes that I am always trying to volumize and lengthen. Every time a new mascara (high end or drugstore) comes out, I have to try it. Some previous favorites in the past have been DiorShow, Chanel Inimitable, and YSL Faux Cils. (Yes, I like drama!) The only problem with those is that the Chanel seems to dry out my lashes, DiorShow gets flaky, and YSL dries out too quickly in the container.

Since I've been on an obsessive Chantecaille kick, I decided to give this mascara a try, despite the $40 pricetag. I do have to say, I really, really like it. The tube is quite small, but since I toss my mascaras out every 3 months or so, it's not a big deal for me, as I've never finished a mascara. There is a heavenly rose water scent to the mascara, which I really like. I hate when mascaras smell like chemicals or some weird, synthetic fragrance. Chante's FC smells very natural.

The brush is small enough that it can be maneuvered without getting mascara all over the top lid. The color of the Black shade is a deep, rich black that doesn't look ashy. And best of all, my lashes feel really soft and pliable while I'm wearing this, and even when I take it off, my lashes feel conditioned. I think that really makes a difference.

The volumizing effect is not dramatic, so I have to use about 2 coats to get the desired look. It lengthens slightly, and also creates a nice curve to the lashes so that I don't have to use an eyelash curler. It removes well at night -- no tugging or dark circles under the eyes -- while lasting all day without flaking or smudging.

Overall, I like Faux Cils a lot and am really happy that I tried it.

Finally.....a pricey mascara that's worth it. It conditions too while it tints the lashes perfectly. It's rosewater based along with fruit/flower waxes & red seaweed extract that coat the lashes......no clumping fibers in this. But it still manages to volumize and lengthen in a very natural way. I have very white blonde lashes and have to really wiggle the mascara wand to get my lashes darkened. Usually the result is clumpy, overly coated lashes that look spidery and unnatural. This mascara however doesn't do any of that. No flaking later either which is always a bonus. My lashes aren't what they were when I was a teen but this mascara makes them look pretty close. Am excited to see what my results are after using this awhile. I suspect my lashes will improve. Definitely on my re-buy list.

This mascara looks beautiful in the tube and on the lashes. It leaves a healthy glossy finish. However, I'm giving it a poor review because it smudged after just two hours. (It wasn't a slight smudge either, it was the full on panda eye smudge!) To be fair, I have really oily Asian eyelids...for those of you with normal eyelids, I think the product would work much better.

I love this mascara! it is amazing! it really doesnt give that great look of volume but it does make my lashes look fluttery. It smells like rosewater and has a cooling feeling to it and it doesnt clump like most mascaras do because of the natural waxes in it. I've had it for about for 4 months and it shows no signs of drying!

Best mascara EVER!!! Everytime I wear this people ask me if i am wearing individual lashes!
Very expensive but so worth it. plus it lasts up to 6 months because the rosewater content actually makes it antibacterial so you dont have to chuck it after 3 months like most mascara.
I love it!

First vegan mascara I've bought that actually builds any volume. Still, not a huge amount of volume, but enough.

Very pricey, but to be honest I once bought that Dior mascara with the stupid rotating wand, it's about on par with that.

Smells divine, like all Chantecaille products. Would buy again.

This is my new HG mascara. (previously LAncome Hypnose Drama, which has had a formula and brush change sadly).
This one is amazing. It gives everything - length, volume, curl and separation. Its dramatic enough to wear a few coats at night, and beautiful enough to wear daily as a gorgeous, perfecting mascara.
I have blonde eyelashes so mascara is a daily necessity for me. While the cheapies can be ok, I personally find they dry my lashes out and then my lashes fall out.
This mascara seems to keep my lashes soft and nourished, its easy to remove, and no lash fall out yet.
Really really really pleased with this one.
Took one star off for cost - but Chantecaille is fast becoming my fave makeup brand.
Pricey but worth it.

Love this mascara. The rosewater scents it wonderfully. It is very gentle for both my eyes and my very dry rosacea skin. The mascara is so easy to use. It seperates my lashes without clumbing, I can add layer on layer and they still stay soft. The mascara helps to emphasize my naturally long curly lashes. It does not provide a very, very dramatic look used on it's own, but if you use a base mascara like the Shiseido one, you can get the faux effect. This mascara is not waterproof, but water resistant. I have cycled through heavy rain several times with this without getting panda eyes! But beware: the moment you touch your wet lashes, the mascara does come off. So I guess it's not meant for using it while going for a swim, but it should hold if you cry. Would buy this again, if I can find it (not available in my country).

Bought it after my make-up trial for the wedding. Really makes a difference and stays all day. I love the packaging!
Expensive as for the mascara, but this is the only downside...

So I'm not really sure how to write this review. I've bought Chantecaille twice - the first bottle was AWESOME!! I loved that it was all natural and just loved the fake eyelash look. Unfortunately the second bottle was HORRIBLE! It flaked into my eyes from day one. Like CHUNKS into my eyes. I couldn't go a day without having to go into the bathroom a couple times and pick out black pieces of mascara. So I'm not really sure - I'm not trying to buy another bottle for $38 to see if it turns out to be better...but bottle two was a disaster. No thanks, I won't be buying it again.

As I don't have much time and work long hours, I need something that's not too high maintenance to get ready in the morning. I've used a variety of drugstore and department store mascaras. This one is the best in its class--I did read the reviews so I knew it was not going to be as glamorous as YSL Faux Cils, which I've used several times before. However, I wanted a good, smudge-proof mascara that gave me some length, volume, and curl, would not flake and have good black pigmentation. This one does deliver. Additionally, it is easy to remove with makeup remover and is very gentle on the lashes--no lash loss either.

A sales assistant put this on me in the shop and my lashes looked fantastic - long and thick but not at all cakey. But I've never been able to get the same effect myself. It clogs and I end up with lashes clumped together and with lumps of mascara. I always end up having to comb my lashes through and, most recently, made such a mess I gave up and took it all of to start again with a different mascara. If you're looking for a good quaility mascara that gives drama but doesn't look too fake then I'd recommend By Terry's Mascara Blackstar.

I've had this a while and it is only now I'm appreciating it. When I first got it it was too watery for my liking but a few months down the line the consistency has thickened a little and it does a fabulous job.
I find this lengthens more than any other mascara I have used. It doesn't really thicken but then I have yet to find a mascara that thickens my lashes without clumping.
I have long straight lashes and after curling them with my shu curlers and applying this it looks like I am wearing false eyelashes.
It is expensive and I do wipe off a lot of product before applying so on the one hand I'm wasting a lot of product but then it does give fabulous results.
Would buy again.
