This opi DS colour was my very first. And I was hooked! The price is a little steep at 14.99 Canadian but compared to butter London at 17$ it wasn't so bad.
The pro wide brush is amazing as always and the application of this lacquer was flawless. I kept getting compliments after compliments at work. I couldn't believe how long this nail polish lasted on me without chipping! 5-6 days!
I would seriously buy a backup of this colour if I ever see it for sale again ...
Opi DS colours are so hard to find...

The finish on DS Illuminate is hard to define. It's not a true holographic, not a glitter, not a shimmer (though it has all of those elements). It's a bit like a glass-flecked polish with extra dimension.
The main color is a warm, light brown. Small bits of holo glitter flash red, gold, and yellow. In contrast, bits of silvery blue shimmer give the polish an icy blue-brown duochrome effect. It's lovely, but I found that it was much less noticeable when dry.
I used two thin coats, but one would probably work for a steady hand. The formula went on easily and dried completely flat. DS Illuminate is pretty and different in a work-appropriate way. The balance of warm browns and golds with hints of cool blue makes it fun.
Illuminate is a good name for this polish. It appears to be lit from within, and is both warm and cool at the same time. The only reason I wouldn't buy it again is that I don't use it often.

I love this color on my skin. This color is gorgeous and you can see the holographic colors in light. It's a bit darker than the Classic, but it's super pigmented so it goes on nicely with just one coat.

On one hand, this applies amazingly with one coat- the glitter is fine but dense in appearance, it's smooth, and glides on. On the other hand, this doesn't look as exciting on as I was hoping it would. Not sure if it's my skin tone or what (NC35, yellow undertones), but I kinda have to look closer to see the holographic effect, that is, when I'm not in daylight with the sun shining. The glitter is visible but at an eye-glance it just looks like a warm, muted gold color with fine glitter. Almost kinda brownish. There is a slight opalescent effect too which is kinda cool, but it's very subtle. While I don't not-like it and it's wearable, it's just not that striking to me. I guess it depends on your mood...if you like (imo) more understated glitter, you may like this. It's pretty but I can see it looking kinda blah too in a weird way, even with all the glitter.

You know why I like this nail polish? It's basically the only color a guy has ever actually noticed. It's a very "safe" shade in the sense that it's not too dark or matte or anything..it's a shimmery holo taupe/gold color, almost nude. The glimmer is sort of greenish-golden toned. It's kind of hard to explain how it looks exactly, but it's a great look and it goes with basically everything I wear. It's very shiny, but I used a topcoat anyway because my nails have a tendency to chip with all the typing I do. I'd recommend this to any friend! A very "fashionista" shade!

Illuminate seemed impressive to me- I really wanted to buy it after seeing gorgeous photos of it on various people's nailpolish blogs. Since there weren't any illuminates left in the local OPI store, I had to purchase it online without actually trying it on.
A dissapointment, really!
The color isn't as holographic as I thought it would be! A ripoff for the ds series, we pay extra for more of the holographic look... This color is really more glittery if anything.
The hazel color reminds me a bit of dung sometimes.
Still, I give it props for easy application- it glides on like a miracle. Sometimes under warm yellow lights it looks nice and holographic. Sometimes only though.
Anybody thinking of getting this, stick to Ds Desire. It's so much better of an alternative.
