I just purchased my second one to replace the old one after five and a half years.
I've tried conair, CHI, and GHD. Out of the four, this straighter is so much better suited for my hair. It didn't pull, burn, or leave me with flat 'over straightened' hair regardless of how many times I used it.
It's also my go-to for curling.

Awesome... soft silky shiny hair. I have been looking for something to replace my Babyliss nano and my CHI. THIS BLOWS THEM OUT THE PARK! My CHI just stopped working for me and my nano damaged my hair after a while. The Solia is great....

TL;DR - Flat iron burnt my hair and melted itself unexpectedly after 4 years of moderate use - with pictures.
I bought my Solia flat iron about 4 years ago and I've always been very pleased with it. It heated up quickly, straightened my hair easily, and kept my hair straight for days regardless of humidity. I used this flat iron every time I styled my hair. So why have I given it a rating of 1? Well, let me answer that with the story of my Wednesday night.
I wash and condition as usual, towel dry my hair, put in my usual mixture of oils, straighteners, and heat protectants and blow dry. No problems so far. I plug in my Solia, turn it on, and after a few seconds, I notice a mild burning smell. No big deal, I think to myself, probably just some hair-product build-up on the plates; happens occasionally. Sure enough, there's a little bit on the edges and sides of the plates, so I wipe it off with a tissue and go right back to combing my hair. I pick up the iron and run it once down a section of my bangs. The iron touches my hair for a grand total of 2 seconds before the awful, acrid stench of burning hair alerts me to my mistake. I reach up instinctively to feel what's happened and let out a gasp of horror. IT'S BURNT. And we're talking crispy, fried, might-break-off-if-I-brushed-it BURNT. Don't take my word for it, check this picture I took of the under-side of my bangs: http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g425/Nesrin4/2011-11-15_22-39-50_602.jpg
I drop my hair straightener in horror as I stare in shock at my hair. I have been using this straightener for 4 years and never once has it done anything remotely like this before. As I mentally freak-out about my ruined bangs, I'm again alerted to disaster by the stench of melting plastic. I drop my gaze to my iron and lo and behold it is melting apart before my very eyes. Again, here's a picture: http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g425/Nesrin4/2011-11-15_22-32-15_1.jpg
Now, I'm not going to declare *all* Solia flat-irons to be badly constructed and prone to melting themselves and burning your hair, but mine certainly was. Beware of these irons, ladies, even (and perhaps especially) if you've had yours for a few years because it may end up the way mine did. I feel very lucky that my scalp and forehead were not burnt along with my hair... a few more seconds and I might have had melted plastic dripping onto my face!
And while it probably goes without saying, no, I will not be repurchasing a Solia after this.

I've had a Solia for about 2 years now, and I love it. I had to send it back a couple of weeks ago because the swivel cord was disconnecting (since I was still under warranty, they sent me a brand new one and it was here within like, 3 days!! Very impressive). But other than that, I've had a great experience with it. My natural hair is very frizzy, wavy and poofy, so I straighten it almost every day. You wouldn't know it's natural texture by looking at it because that's how good this flat iron is. I've used a friends CHI and honestly, I think my Solia works better (on my hair, atleast). If you're wanting a new flat iron but don't want to spend as much as you would with a CHI or Sedu, i'd definitely recommend checking out Solia:)

Well this is one of my favorite high-end flatirons. I love it so much that I have both, the 11/4in., in black & the Baby-Pink 1in. These come very close to my Sedu's but I find my self reaching for my Solia's more (:
I Purchased both of my Solia's at Folica.com. Shipping was free and Speedy delivery. I also got 2 free heat-resistant pouches with my purchase which was awesome because I use them every time I straighten my hair to protect my counter. For $80 this product is an Excellent investment. First of all I am a natural 4. My hair is extremely thick and just about shoulder length when straight. I use this on the highest setting with 1-2 passes. Yes, I crank her All The Way Up LOL!!! But my hair is so coarse and thick. Ive always been able to handle high heat, even when I was relaxed. Anyway I look like I have a fresh perm after every use of my Solia. It gives me the "Salon" look and I get tons of compliments. Even though I turn mine all the way up I love that you can control the heat settings because I use this on my friends and family who have different hair textures. This leaves the hair so shiny it glistens!! It does not snag me, me plates are like glass. Please be careful (especially if u turn yours all the way up) because you can burn the %*$& out of your scalp!! Another thing, the squeaky sound is normal!! It has something to do with the technology. Don't quote me but I read it somewhere. Lastly, please please do not turn this all the way up if your hair cannot handle the temperature or if your hair is badly damaged. This does have the potential to fry your hair if you do not know what you're doing. I have had mine for two years now. I haven't incurred any heat damage but I really only straighten my hair once a month, sometimes less frequently. I used this on my Aunt whose relaxed and has permanent color. Her hair is very thin and damaged. Well I used this on 320 on her hair and it came out beautiful. Lots of body yet pin straight. But I'm kind of bummed because the Solia piece fell off of my 11/4in (On both sides). The writing on the flat-iron is also beginning to fade away. My LE pink beauty is also beginning to turn brown around the edges :(. But I have no Cord problems on either which is most important. These are so worth repurchasing because of the Amazing results. I really don't use much product, in fact I only use Aussie Hair insurance when my hair is wet, as an aid to blowdrying. Occaisonally I use a tiny drop of CHI Silk Infusion & I'm good to go!! My hair lasts a week and a half or until I get greasy with this flatiron. Probably a little less in the summer time. When these babies die on me I'm going to be devastated but you can bet your bottom dollar I will buy another Solia!!! These are life changing <3

I got this in the hot pink color and it looks great. What I love about this flat iron is that it makes my naturally wavy hair become as straight as I want and my hair stays straight until the next time I wash it (unless my hair gets wet or it's extremely humid outside). It heats up really quickly and I use it on a high setting, but not the highest setting because that might fry your hair. You can straighten wet hair with this iron as well, but I don't recommend it because it will look frizzy. Use this on dry hair for the best and shiniest results.

Fantastic. Cuts down on styling time. Great deal price-wise. I have had this for over a year and it's still going strong.

I purchased this flat iron from Folica to replace my 5 year old CHI. My hair is moderately thick and coarse with curls/waves. I thought it would be nice to adjust the temperature setting, but in reality, I still need the highest heat setting to get the job done. The iron heats up nice and quick. I find that I need to pass over each section of hair at least 2-3 times to get the job done. It also leaves my hair very flat. I went back to a CHI recently, and love how I need only one pass through my hair for it to be smooth, straight, and frizz free, and with out losing any of the body like I do with the Solia iron. I'm back to a CHI, I would spend the few extra dollars over the Solia.

I bought this flat iron back in 2005 and used it for four years until it stopped working. I have ethnic curly hair and it always worked great on my hair. I think i paid 100 dollars back when i first bought it, since then the price has gone down. I bought the Sedu flat iron to replace this one after it broke because i was curious to try that one as well. Worth the money.

I LOVE this flat iron! I too, bought it from recommendations on Folica.com and I have yet to be disappointed. Unlike the chi iron, the plates have what they describe as "dynamic alignment" which ensures that equal pressure is applied to all the hair being pulled through so damage is prevented! It also has super shiny plates that add shine to my hair! It takes me literally 10 minutes to flat iron my whole head (and I have LONG hair) with this tool and Morrocan Oil product, and the price is right!!

After trying tons and tons are flat irons i decided to go onto Folica.com and get a really good one. this was #2 on their top iron lists so i started reading reviews. after a thousand reviews i wanted it sooo bad. i ordered it. Amazing shipping, soo fast. my hair has gotten softer and thinner (i had crazy thick hair) every time i use it. i would go with the 1 1/4 inch one becuase people have had problems with the 1 inch one. and with the unique size, you can do different types of curls if you use it to curl your hair. i also love how the plates move so it moves with your hair making the finished look more natural. since it is a ceramic ion it makes your hair soft, shinny, and frizz free. Never going back. love this iron sooo much.

Great flat iron! It took my hair which is thick, dry, coarse to soft, smooth and even feels thinner, It does seem to need two times to go through my hair to get it really straight, but that's forgivable as it was on sale for only $80. I flat ironed my hair the day before yesterday and it's still straight, My old flat iron I had to straighten my hair every single morning before work, with this one I could probably goes days.
I love how small and compact it is and how the plates move with your hair.
It's really a good flat iron for the price.

This flat iron SUCKS. Don't buy it.
It makes a horrible noise when you run it through your hair, almost like a pulling or scratching. My hair flips out almost instantly after using it.
I sometimes put my hair in a bobby pin when it's wet then straighten it out - this flat iron does nothing to do it.
If you read this - buy a Chi instead!

I ordered and received this flat iron about a month ago, and I gotta say I luv it! My hair is pretty curly and it straightens it quickly and leaves it very shinny. The price was around 79.99, which is very reasonable for a high quality flat iron. I have owned CHI's in the past and I would never switch back. They recommend you use a protective product for your hair when using the flat iron which I do and it has not burned my hair. This is the only brand I plan to buy in the future.

This flat iron is my HG. I have biracial hair and my hair has to be flat ironed after washing. I had my first (1 3/4) for about 4 years when it finally died on me. *sad day* but I ordered a new one asap. (1 1/4 casu I cut my hair). After a series of unfortunate events that ended in me stepping on and shattering my second*oops* I ordered my 3rd and never put it on the floor lol. I've tried the sedu which is the major nemesis of the solis, ghd, chi, fhi
and Paul Mitchell but I always go back to solia. It curls beautifully as well and is great for all hair textures and lengths although I'm prolly gonna order a bigger one again because it's great on longer hair. Take it from me my hair is a mess and I'm sure you've heard or seen people that say the same but all their hair does is frizz a bit and the just need to run it over their hair. I'm a "gotta section off and flat iron EVERY SINGLE PIECE" kind of girl lol.

This iron makes my hair so soft. When I use it to straighten my hair, it comes out pin straight. I also use this iron to curl my hair. It makes wonderful curls that stay until I wash my hair. I love the fact that it has different temperature settings. I use different settings depending on the style I am looking for. It heats up super fast too.

i love this flat iron.it keeps my hair straight for days unlike my old flat iron (remington wet/dry flat iron from walmart).i love how fast it heats up.i tried to buy from folica but they were sold out and wanted me to wait till more came in(which i wasnt having.... told my mom to juss get the money back and got it off ebay).neways i love this.it helps my coarse curly hair straight all day and keeps it like that for days.with my old flat iron i would have to do my hair EVERDAY at the highest temperature(30) but with this all i have to do is a quick touch up at my roots and ends every couple of days and boom im done.i would never switch to another brand EVER!!!!!!!!!

I purchased the Solia Tourmaline Flat Iron from Folica.com. I bought it to try a better quality ceramic flat iron as I had the Conair 2 inch size that works fine, but wanted a smaller size. The Solia heats up fast and has adjustable temperature settings which I prefer so I only use the heat I need and not too much. It glides through your hair easily and there has been no tugging or catching of hair in the plates. I really like it as it does impart some shine and results can last till the next day. I always use hairspray afterwards to set it and a thermal spray before I blow dry and flat iron. I recommend it because it performs as advertised and appears to be a more professional quality tool.
