I love Tropic, it is one of those eyeshadows that just stands out when you're looking at all the NARS shadows. Its so glittery and the color is just gorgeous. Its a teal blue shadow, that is covered in glitter...atleast in the pan :P. It is definitely leaning towards being more matte because the color swatches with glitter flying everywhere that basically it'll be matte on the lids. Nonetheless its gorgeous and if u have a good base I'm sure the glitter will stay put because it does stick initially, then just flies away. I will probably repurchase this again if I ever run out. :)

I am very surprised I haven't owned this for years. I must not have noticed OR been really scared of the glitter.
I swatched this in the store, love the color. I LOVE teal.
This looks similar to Galapagos to me, as far as texture and the chunky looking glitter. Read all the reviews here, and I don't regret buying this.
I am not a NOOB when it comes to glittery e/s. I have UD Midnight cowboy and it still is hands down the chunkiest / glitter bomb e/s ever. Tropic is thankfully nothing like that.
Its surprising to me how little fall out I got from the glitter and how little the glitter actually showed up on my lids. The SA told me this is not a 'swipe around your lid' color, more of a push/press on to your lid. I actually did both, and it was fine. But let me tell you, Use this WET with a brush as E/L and its heavenly, as is Galapagos. I LOVE IT. The glitter shows up much more if you wet this. If you don't like that, don't wet it. I love it glittery as a liner.
This is beautiful. I found it a little hard to blend, much like a MAC matte, but workable and in the end GORGEOUS. I love this color. Love. NARS e/s do not disappoint. This is so beautiful. I used it as an outside crease color and to line. I used NARS Fez on the lid with it. Gorgeous.

don't buy this if you're attracted to the color or glitter. the glitter falls off as you're applying the shadow, & the color looked liked a dark wash denim. it's not bad, but completely different than what you're expecting. i applied it over mac painterly & it was a flat dark blue denim color. for the price i wanted what it appeared to be.

So disappointed. The color is beautiful in the pan, and when first applied, but it wears off after a couple hours, even with primer and shelaq. Waste of money.

Like a dress that looks better on the hanger, this looks way better in the pan (as do most NARS single eyeshadows with sparkle). In the pan it is the most gorgeous teal shade with silver sparkles. However, it is an PITA to apply. It goes on quite streaky and uneven, that is problem #1. Problem # 2 is that the glitter application is sporadic. Sometimes the brush picks up lots of glitter, sometimes none. And oh boy, is there fallout! Not quite to the extent of the infamous UD Midnight Cowboy Rides again, but still pretty bad.
Will definitely not repurchase.

The two lippies goes to the intensity of the pigmentation. But I can't say anything else that's good about this shadow. On it's own, it has no staying power--you can really only pack it on with your brush and never really blend out because then the brush just starts taking the shadow off your lid. And the glitter? It won't stick to anything. I know, it's glitter. But there are better glittery shadows out there where the chunks of glitter actually stay where they are supposed to and not blown off. If you swatch the shadow on your hand and blow on it, you'll see more than half the glitter just fly off. Definitely not worth the 26CAD. It went back to the store.

I absolutely love this color. Gorgeous, velvety, rich deep-teal green color...Highly pigmented. I am not a fan of glitter but it does not adhere to my eye lids/comes right off when I apply it. My only gripe: The glitter is getting all over the makeup tray in my e/s drawer

What a great teal eye shadow!! I just got it today, I tried on and I found out I LOVE it. it is teal with glitter. The glitter doesnt show up very much in your lids. but the color definitely shows up. This beautiful teal are suitable for night out in my mind, probably too much for daily looking.

It is a nice green/blue teal color. I noticed the model in the ad didn't have any glitter on her. I thought maybe they melt once you brush it onto your own eye lids. Glitter starts flying around the air when you use the compact close to your face. Its kinda cool but you're probably inhaling it too. I love the color. I don't think the glitter was necessary but its a fun touch.

I loved the look of this shadow on the NARS model, but the first time that I saw the rather enormous chunks of glitter in the pan, I couldn't bring myself to even try it on because a.) I'm not sixteen anymore and b.) the last time I wore glitter on my eyelids was at a rave in 1999. I wandered into Sephora the other day, and on a whim, decided to try it on for fun. Oddly enough, the glitter might appear large and vaguely "Vegas hooker" in the pan, but on the eye, the glitter is subtle while the color is absolutely gorgeous--think the deepest indigo-green sea in the tropics--and perfectly chic. I'm surprised that Sephora still had a ton of these shadows left. I bet if NARS would have omitted the glitter and released the shadow as matte, they would have sold out in a heartbeat (and thus my four star review).

I just bought this a couple days ago and I absolutely adore it. It's true that when you apply this, nearly no glitter goes on your lids. Maybe a tiny amount, but it can be swept away easily. This was actually kind of disappointing to me. I loved how nice the blue looked with the glitter, but that may just be me. I tend to like very bright, interesting make up. It was definitely worth the money. So far, my favorite look for this is to use it as an outer corner shade on top of a gunmetal lid color with white highlight in the inner corners. It's a very edgy smokey eye. Loves it.

I like this teal colour honestly, but just on the pan. It is true the glitter won't go to my lids. It falls to my eyelashes and cheek. Otherwise, I have to take away the glitter before I apply it. And, because the glitter, the eye shadow isn't smooth, compared to my other nars eyeshadow, such as strada. Is it just for fun to add that much glitter into this colour?

I bought NARS single eye shadow in Tropic and Night Breed. This was my first time trying the NARS makeup line, and I love it! Tropic is part in their 2009 Summer Collection. It is a vivid blue teal color with glitter...so beautiful. I applied it very lightly, and it actually looked more like a greenish teal than the blue in the pan. I'm sure if I added more shadow, it would be more blue teal. The glitter wasn't so glittery either...most of it stayed in the pan. You definitely have to be confident when wearing this color because you have to ROCK IT!
I love the color of the eyeshadow and the feel of the packaging. Overall, I am quite satisfied with my first NARS purchase.

Love this shadow! I am not a fan of the glitter, but just tapping my brush gets almost all of the glitter off. I love wearing this on my lid, with a little bit of MAC Fig 1 in the crease, and Pring e/s in the outer V. lovely color and it is so uniques. Don't let the glitter bother you! go and get one.

I bought this today and it is freaking GORGEOUS!! I've been looking at it for about a week now and I finally gave in. As all the other reviewers said the glitter is annoying, but once you tap your brush all the glitter falls out . I can't wait to wear this out for the summer nights. Please do not be afraid of the glitter, this is definitely a collectors item as there is NO other color out there that's even close to tropic. You won't regret it

Teal is my favourite colour of all time so I was super excited to see this release from Nars. I ordered online and couldn't wait for this shadow to arrive. On opening I was suprised to see masses of glitter chunks. The colour itself is beautiful, it looks a light blue in the pan but on its definitely a deep teal, so I persevered and applied. There is so much glitter it's impossible to pick up any shadow without lots of glitter on it. I applied to my lid and the colour is divine but the glitter chunks do not stay on the lid instead falling down all over my face. The shadow left on my lid is a gorgeous matte colour. I would be so happy if this shadow came just as this beautiful matte shade and since the glitter doesn't stay on your lid anyway I'm left thinking what's the point. The glitter just makes this so messy to use and I already know I won't reach for this that often because I prefer eyeshadows that don't require so much work and cleaning up. I despise being left with glitter chunks all over my face and I know I could apply my foundation after my eye make up but I dont like to do this it always feels alien to me. All in all a gorgeous colour that to me has been ruined by the huge, pointless glitter and for that reason I am truly disappointed in this product. I had such high hopes but I honestly wish I hadn't broken my current make up spending ban for this item.

I was really nervous about this because of the previous reviews about the glitter chunks. But I plunked down the $22 and got Tropic, and the matching eye pencil.
Turns out, my fears were unfounded. The glitter stays in the pot. I used my regular medium shader to apply it, and all I got was color. A couple of glitter pieces fell on my face, but I was able to easily brush them away.
The color is GORGEOUS and worth every penny. I got pure pigment (which I pressed in for the deepest color possible), with almost NO glitter.
The Kaliste Pencil just brings the entire look together. I love it. Don't be afraid of the glitter... it's not nearly as bad (on your face) as it looks in the pot.

I was expecting to hate this product. A lot of the new nars eyeshadows have chunky glitter. for example i HATE night rider and night snow - they are all glitter and no actual pigmentation on their own. tropic is TOTALLY different. its a beautiful teal color thats creamier than the other chunky eye shadows. i give it a 4 instead of 5, because it does have some chunkier glitter that makes it more difficult to use. try layering it over "heart of glass" its a GORGEOUS combo!
