If you like voluptuous sweet-oriental scents like Jessica Simpson Fancy, Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vanille Abricot or even Pink Sugar, but want to upgrade to something a little more classic and classy, Casmir is the grown-up cousin to those scents; familiar and sweet but with an edge of exoticism and animalic spice.

On paper, this can smell cloying as all the notes hit you at once. It's only on the skin that Casmir unfurls in soft layers like a luscious dessert. The initial fruity burst is very syrupy and sweet with undertones of caramel-ey toasted marshmallows and an oud-like rubbery note that can turn some people off.

If you get past the treacly sweetness in the opening, you get a gauzy, enveloping veil that's not JUST vanilla. The musky amber adds some smokiness and depth, but I find the tonka to stand out most of all, creating a soft powderiness that's almost chocolate-y. If you like rich, ambery vanillas with a pinch of spice and complexity, give this a sniff. If you can't take sweet, voluptuous scents, don't bother reading any further down the page.

Lasting power is outstanding on my dry skin. Most scents weaken and disappear in about 2-3 hours for me but this has no problems lasting about 6-7 at a good scent strength before dying down to a soft sweet skin-musk for another couple of hours.

If you like stronger perfumes like CD Poison you"ll probably like this one. A classic fragrance a must have in my collection (perfume addict), reminds me of the time when we used to live in Europe my mom would wear this. First spray it smells spicy amber once it drys down a bit I can smell the vanilla/orangey I just got this at Amazon large bottle $30.00. Plus free shipping.

I wore this for a long time in my 20s and early 30s. I think I went through 3 bottles until I outgrew it- or realized that when I sprayed it on-even sparingly- I could taste it for the rest of the day. I used to feel like it was a warm cozy fragrance that could cut through cigarette/bar pollution. Men seemed to love it.
I ask different things from fragrance now. I enjoy the memories of that lovely red box and beautiful little squat bottle, but I'll keep the heavy vanilla scent at arm's distance.

I fell in love with this fragrance on a trip to visit my grandmother when I was 10. She bought me a sample of it and I loved the sweet, sexy, vanilla notes. About 20 years later, I repurchased it and was surprised that it smelled sharper, without the balance of the sweet, soft, vanilla that made it so delicious when I was 10. My advice for wearing Casmir is to give it time. Don't spray it on and immediately smell your wrist; you'll be confronted with an inharmonious blend of ... ick. The dry down is heavenly, and worth waiting 30-45 minutes for. I wouldn't wear this in the summer because it's spicy, but it's perfect for a cold evening.

Love this.

Very hard to find, but worth it. Everyone else has described the scent - it's hard to review scents because it's so objective. Definitely a staple and a repurchase.

Unfortunately the fruity aspect of this reminded me to much of Irn-Bru (scottish fizzy drink). No way I'm walking around smelling like that!

Wow! I love this!!!! I have always been a fan of vanilla scents. I have gone thru so many perfumes over the years. I was disappointed with the heaviness and the powdery old lady smell that came with most perfumes that have a vanilla base until casmir!!!! I smelled it on a woman and asked her what she was wearing. She was kind enough to let me try a sample from the mini she carried in her purse. I absolutely love this!!!! It is complicated without being overbearing, famine without being weak and warm without being manly. I think this is my new signature scent!!!

Okay, so maybe I didn't expect this to become a fave and compete with my other faves (Shalimar, Tabu and Angel), but come on .. THIS bad? I bought a mini bottle of Casmir off of eBay and have tried it on maybe eight or nine times over a period of two months, every time (except the first :) ) giving it another chance .. but no, this just doesn't do it for me. It opens very (very!) sharp, with this almost repulsive and offending blend of sweet, fruity notes. The smell comes out so strong that I usually panic and imagine myself staying at home (wouldn't wanna be held responsible for allergic reactions, headaches or something), and there have been times where I would panic to the extent of wiping it off. This phase lasts a good half an hour on me, maybe more. I don't get much of the middle notes (which supposedly are mandarin orange, carnation and cinnamon), instead Casmir dries down to .. well, a sweet, indistinct smell of almost nothing. I really can't tell what the base notes smell like on me. The smell is faint and generic, all I can tell is that it's sweet. So, I'm done with trying to like this perfume. Fine, I'll keep it, but I won't use it -- ever again.

I rotate this scent with Trish McEvoy #9 and Poeme. I get compliments on it...mostly from other women, for some reason, while men comment on the Poeme. I use this more in the winter and #9 which is lighter in the summer

Casmir is really, really lovely. Its smooth, warm and ever so spicey vanilla on my skin. On first spray i get citrus and a bit of sweet fruityness, it smells very vintage and expensive. The drydown is such a lovely comforting warm vanilla spice. Casmir is gorgeous.

Not sure how readily available this is, but I reach for it every fall/winter, despite my variety of products. I have a large bottle and it seems to last forever. I have no idea how old my bottle is, but it stands out as my husbands favorite on me. Today I used BS Satsuma shower gel with this on top so the result ended up sweeter and more fruity than usual. A step above the Vanilla Fields I finished up back in the 90's, but less harsh and intrusive. My first bottle of Vanilla Fields was pure heaven, but nothing else has compared, since the lots were all different. This is the closest I have found.

My husband and I both liked this on a scent strip many long years ago, so I finally tried it. Creamy, well-blended tropical/vanilla scent. I liked it a lot on this cool autumn day, but suspect it would be cloying in summer.

I bought a 1.7oz bottle of Chopard Casmir, and I am in love. I debated ordering it for the longest time because it was something like thirty dollars and I'm trying to save money, but I don't regret it in the least. In fact, I wish I'd ordered the bigger bottle. I spritzed it on yesterday after tearing open the package, and at first, it was this cacophonous, vile blend of whatever the topnotes are... I was appalled. It smelled like those knockoff perfumes you find in drugstores... very generic, very strong, and very disgusting. I spent the first fifteen minutes of wear-time lamenting what I thought was a waste of money, until...

Holy moly. Casmir is like... a gift from the gods. It's warm without being spicy, oriental without being harsh, and as time goes on it becomes a mellow, cozy vanilla. I would bathe in this stuff if I could. The bottle is awkward to hold and spray, but it's... it's just so good. I spritzed some on at around 8pm yesterday and can still smell it on my wrists this morning.

This is everything I had hoped it would be, after the first fifteen minutes or so. I highly recommend it to any and all vanilla lovers; it's not sweet, but rather very, very comforting. A scent to snuggle by.

You can find this on Amazon and Ebay pretty easily right now, too.

At first application, sweet and velvety. After 10 minutes, the orange was more prominent and added a bit of tartness that I liked. The vanilla also came forward. I can't say the fruity top notes ever did register for me. I don't find it has outstanding staying power but since I apply my perfume sparingly, it could just be due to that. Reasonably priced as far as fragrances go in todays world so worth giving a try.

This fragrance is me. I first used it about 18 yrs ago then came across it online a couple of years ago. No matter what new fragrance I choose. I always come back to this one. I wish they still made other products like shower gel and body cream to go with it.

I love this fragrance. It's a little too much for me in the beginning, but after as little as 5 minutes, the smell is lovely. Sweet and spicy. The price is right too. You can't get it in department stores anymore, but it's still available online for very reasonable prices!

I was drawn to it because I was told it was a fruity-vanilla (which I like), I'm going to blame it to my chemistry, on me, it was a masculine, overwhelmingly spicy blast that made my nose itch... good staying power though, it was really hard to get rid of the itchy smell even after a few washes! I hated it!
