Purity made simple for those who dont know the philosophy line is a daily facial wash, that is meant to be used morning and night. Its has a consistency of a thick milky white liquid with a very faint smell of rose. This cleaner is used to remove dirt, oil, and makeup while using many natural ingredients including- sodium lauroamphoacetate (cleanses); meadowfoam-seed oil (moisturizes); rosewood, sandalwood, and sage oils (soften and soothe).
Purity Made Simple has been awarded 'Reader's Choice' by Allure Magazine every year since 2008. Consumers (NOT ME) like how it foams up quickly to whisk away makeup, unclog pores, and leave skin feeling velvety.
Everytime I see this in Allure, listen to my mom rant and rave about everything philosophy, or read these outstanding reviews- I wonder if they are talking about the same product as me? I wouldn't say its the worst cleaner I have used... but I wont be buying it anytime in the near future. First, I cant stand the smell. Its a very light rose scent, but I really dislike it and cant seem to get it out of my nose after its all rinsed off. I used it for a week- in the morning before i applied my lotions and makeup, and in the shower before bed. I found that it made my skin oily. This was very surprising because the cleaner itself is so gentle, it reminds me of washing your face old school with a good bar of soap. Those with dry skin may really like this, as it does TOO GOOD of a job moisturizing (at least in my opinion). Another thing I dislike is the price. You can spend up to $40 on a bottle of this. Just because its got natural ingredients thus the 'purity made simple' and has the brand name philosophy on it, doesnt make it worth the price. I will spend $2 on a bar of soap and get the same results (and I wont have to worry about a headache from the floral mess in their formula). My mom really enjoys this product, she has combination skin and is a bit sensitive to cleaners that have harsh properties in the formula. She swears by it, and will lay down the money no questions asked. The only positive feedback I can give for this wash, is the ease of washing off my makeup at night with it. It would get everything off- from my heavy foundation to the waterproof mascara. I think it was because of the oils in the formula- the same ones that make my face shiny and gross. I also have to add, I dont mind when a product has oils in it, and makes my face SEEM like its oily- just because of how well it seals in moisture... I do have a problem with face looking shiny, feeling shiny... getting little break outs where I never in my life have broken out before! Not cool. If you do decide you want to try this wash that EVERYONE seems to love (according to Allure), go to your local sephora (not your department stores, because they wont be as generous) and ask for a sample, tell them you want to try it out before you decide to spend the money. They have mini travel sized samples they will give out to sample beforehand! Sephora is very generous with their samples, so I would go there first (if you are able) before going to Ulta or a department store! You may end up loving it, or you may be like me and find that it makes you oily and doesnt clean anything except the makeup on your face!

I am going to keep checking back on here because i am curious to see how people respond to this cleaner in the summer, when our skin is generally more oily than it normally would be- due to climate change, humidity, sweat- creams like sunscreen and bug spray- all of these being factors linked to summertime- and the last thing we want is a product adding even more oil when we have all these other factors to worry about! I give this product two stars/lippies because it did a wonderful job as a makeup remover (even with my 20 coats of waterproof mascara). Although, its the most expensive makeup remover I have ever used... I will stick to pampers baby wipes, my HG for CHEAP yet the BEST makeup removers of all time!

Purity is a good makeup remover but it does not get eye liner and waterproof mascara off that is the only problem I have with this one. On the good side you just rub it in and wipe off you don't need to use water with this because it dosent even lather. So just rub it in and wipe off!

Its a good cleanser and it feels nice on the skin. But the smell... it smells like fruit loops! It really feels like I'm putting a fruity children's cereal on my face, which is kinda gross. The smell is bad enough that I stopped using it. too bad, because it's actually a decent cleanser, although expensive. It's not all that superior to certain drugstore brands, and they don't smell as bad.

I prefer the creamy texture of the original. But I will say this foam did get into my crevasses (like nose/cheek crease) and it took my eye make up off faster then the original. Non irritating. Non drying. No weird smell. Cleans effectively.

This was a totally bummer from me. I was looking forward to this because all the amazing reviews. It made my skin worse and I went through 2 bottles hoping it would get better and my skin was just getting used to it but, nope. The smell was ok but that was about it...not for my oily ance prone skin.

Really enjoy. Usually foaming washes run out fast, but I have been using this for about two months now with over half the bottle remaining. The scent is fresh but not strong, and the foam is thick, making me feel like it really cleanses. Will buy again once I finally run out. Have had absolutely no problems with packaging.

Bought this in the winter and at first did not like it, it made my skin a little too dry. I started using it again in the summer and I have changed my mind. This smells great, removes my makeup really well, and just makes my face feel clean. It is quite pricey for a face wash but it has lasted me a long time so far. Love to bring this with me when I travel because it does not leak all over and has a lid.

I didn't like this at all. It was drying like many others have said. Also the pump on mine broke too. And after having it for a month or so, it started smelling rancid. Like it had went bad or something. I will not be buying this again. You can get tons of better and cheaper cleansers at the drugstore!

Like other reviews have stated, this cleanser is pretty drying. Even right out of the shower (where I use it in the morning), my face feels tight and stripped. It does a decent job of removing makeup at night and I do like the silky foaming action, though I have to moisturize moisturize moisturize afterwards. Also, though I like the pump bottle, it sticks constantly and is often more frustrating than not. I won't give it away, I'll finish it out but probably won't ever touch it again.

I found this cleanser very drying and not at all unlike a drugstore gel cleanser with a much higher price tag.

This made me skin breakout worse and I used it for the allowable time to see if it would work with it. The smell is ok. The pump got stuck on both bottles I had which is super annoying. Just not for my skin.

I love this product. I bought it to go with my clarisonic plus that I recenly got after hearing they work well together.

I bought this about a month ago and still so much left. It leaves my skin really clean and so soft. I use it once in the morning alone, and then again before bed with the clarisonic.

I use one pump as it's enough for my face. I dont know why you would need two to be honest. I think that would just be a waste of product.

I have normal/combo skin, with the ocassional hormonal blemish or two around the chin area. I also get redness on my cheeks at times but this seems to have stopped that.

I am a tad concerned about the winter as my skin is going to get drier and not sure how it will react with this cleanser, but I will update as we get nearer the time.

*Update* I've had no problems this winter with this cleanser, in fact i love it even more. lol.

I had a cystic pimple coming, I could feel it. Day 1 I used purity in the morning and my regular moisturiser. HUGE! At night I used with my clarisonic. Woke up today, it's almost gone, should be away tomorrow :D

Its a good cleanser but I prefer the regular Purity-this tends to be a little drying-if you have real oily skin then this is perfect-mine is dry/combo so this just doesnt work for me (drying) esp now that the weather is cooler-going back to the original Purity (which I adore!)

I am in love with this cleanser. It smells so lemony and fresh and with 4 pumps of this fantastic and airy foam it does a great job removing all of my makeup including waterproof eyeliner. My skin looks so clean and fresh after. The only downside is the price but I would still repurchase this again.

This cleanser was just okay. I used two of the 12oz bottles of it, so the cleanser itself wasn't problematic for me at all. I just could see no benefit of using this extremely pricey cleanser instead of a Clean & Clear cleanser that I have loved for years. There was no big huge improvement for the money paid. The HUGE issue with this is the pump. They break at the most inopportune times. Happened with both bottles I purchased, from two different stores, and both times, I had over a half a bottle left to use up. This meant I had to pour out the thin liquid into my hands and make my own foam. Ridiculous that this happens with such an expensive product, and you can't even buy a replacement pump if you want to.

Wonderful cleanser! Loved its smell (although many people don't). Super light, leaving my skin feeling fresh and clean. Pumps out in a wonderful foam. Did not make me breakout whatsoever or leave my face feeling tight. Lasted about 4 months with regular use, great product!

mmmmm I love this. To elaborate on that:

PROS
stops my skin from being shiny in the summer
doesn't dry out skin
a little goes a long way
easy-to-use pump
prevent breakouts
aesthetically pleasing
no shaking required
LASTS FOREVER

CONS
smell can be unpleasant at first
cap can be easily lost

I probably will switch up to the original Purity Made Simple during the colder months for better hydration, but I like their line of cleansers.

I have this product as well as the normal non-foaming Purity Made Simple. I use this at night and find that it pretty effectively removes all makeup and cleanses my skin well (so long as waterproof eye makeup is removed first). Sadly, I don't like this nearly as much as the non-foaming version because I feel that it strips my skin and my face always feels tight and dry after I use this, which was especially uncomfortable in the winter. Now that it's summer I've been using it more but I still feel that it is not a gentle cleanser at all. I would not recommend this cleanser if you have dry skin. I have combination skin and I still feel that is way too drying.

The scent of the product is the same slightly medicinal smell that is also in the non-foamy version. I have grown to like it. The dispenser/container is probably my favorite part of the product, to be honest. It is a nice looking bottle that still looks great after being almost used up and the dispenser for product is great. I usually find 2 pumps to be sufficient for cleaning my entire face and getting rid of all the makeup.

In terms of price, I think it's a little expensive for a product that is overall ho-hum and easily replaced by a much cheaper drugstore find (any of the Neutrogena foaming cleansers would make a suitable replacement, as well as some by St. Ives). Furthermore, I don't think it goes as far as the normal non-foaming one, even though it's more expensive.

this cleanser is alittle drying, and doesn't completely take off my eyeliner. It goes on smooth and it foams really well, smell is good. would I buy this product again? probably not, for $20 it better be 5 star and unfortunately this doesn't make the cut.

My bf actually bought this for me because he knew I was trying out new cleansers to find one that worked. My skin is pretty normal with some acne breakouts. When I first used this product, I loved the feel of it. I am a huge fan of foaming cleansers because they feel as if I am actually getting my face clean rather than rubbing something on it that doesn't come off as I sometimes feel when using gel cleansers. The smell was fine and my face felt really clean after rinsing. The only problem is, I got some random breakouts when first using it. This may have been because my skin needed to get used to it or because I started using acne medication (only on my forehead) or because I started wearing make-up on a daily basis. Regardless, it takes off all of my make-up (even waterproof eyeliner and mascara if I let it sit for a few seconds) and that is a huge seller for me! I hate using make-up remover and I also hate when a cleanser does not get off the basic make-up when its not that heavy. For that reason, I continue to use this cleanser in the evenings to get make-up off but I use a gentler cleanser in the mornings. For others, I would definitely recommend this product (maybe not for those with dry skin) as it gives a clean feeling.
