This is the first self tanner I've ever tried and I LOVE IT! I'm very very pale so I really need a touch of bronze in my life! This tanner does that without make me look orange or like and an Oympa Loompa!! In other words... The result after one layer(the day after the application) is a natural golden finish which is exactly what I was looking for!!! I only used this on my legs but I will definitely use it all over my entire body(except face). The gel and tinted form was very helpful at the application because I was able to see where it was! The regular price it's not that high(i think it is around 30-35euros)but I bought it on sale for 18 euros!! I will surely buy this again!!

Tip:make sure you exfoliate really good!! If you don't it will be a bit sticky.

This product is amazing.
I have tried to many self tanners before and this one is by the my new favorite. It doesn't smell awful like other ones and did not streak at all or turn orange on my super fair skin. I am very happy with this product and will defintely will buy this again.

I use this product to self-tan my face, but not my body because it's too expensive to go around. This is my #1 selftanner for face. (my #1 body self tanner is L'Oreal Sublime Bronze airbrush)

PROS:
- Smells nice when you apply
- Nice little tub, which is useful when you use a self tanning glove which I do
- The "tackiness" of it helps keep the stuff on my face. My skin is really oily and does not "take" most self tanners. I end up either splotchy or never seeing any tan because the oils in my skin ruin the developing of the self tanner. This stuff really STICKS. It's the #1 reason I use this
- The colour is decent. Not the best or most natural, but in the point before, I use it because it's one of the only ones that stay on with my oily face.

CONS:
- Smells awful when developing and even a day later after you've washed your skin (but what self tanners don't)
- It's pretty pricey. It costs $41 a tub (in Canada) and that's okay because I use it only for my face, but I coudn't afford to use it for my whole body
- It does take a while to dry, but I only use it on my face so it doesn't hinder my movement much afterwards
- Can't wear this under makeup or out in public later. It looks like you've had vaseline smeared on your face. I put it on before bed like a night cream every third night.

It smells like chocolate and does not turn you orange. I don't know if things can get any better than that. It give you a nice, slightly bronzed look. It looks even better on tan skin because you already have a good base on which to build a layer to 2 of the self tanner. It will leave you looking golden bronzed. Very beautiful. The only bad thing about this is that it does not keep well. If you do plan to get it, make sure you finish it within the first 3-4 months.

The Good: It smells fine, not as bad as other self tanners I've tried. It has a nice texture and seemed to settle into my skin fairly quickly. It has a slight tint to it so you can see where you are applying the product. It wore for about 5 days and did fade evenly.

The Bad: I looked pretty orange. I was hoping I was being paranoid and just not used to seeing my fair complexion (NW20) with color....but no, it was true. A trustworthy friend confirmed it when I asked "do I look orange?" I've had better luck with other Clarins tanners. This one is NOT HG for me.

I've used two jars of this already, and got my mother hooked on it as well.
I was always nervous to try a ST because I was afraid to lol orange and blotchy. The reason I decided to try this one in particular was because I read somewhere that Fergie adds it to her moisturizer, and I love her skin tone. This ST iproved to be fantastic due to it's natural color, easy-application, it lasts long, and it fades evenly. I even used it on my face and it didn't clog my pores.
My HG, since I'm too afraid to experiment with STs.

This is my go to self tanner! I have not found a better one! It's great because you can use it on your face and body! Smells like peaches, oppose to most that smell like melted sugar!
I love it because they use DHA as all self tanners do however they also use Cocoa to give more of a bronzy tan rather then an orangey tan that looks fake!
It's great too because it moisturizes without feeling heavy or sticky.

Age: 19-24   Skin: Sensitive, Fair, Cool   Hair: Black, Wavy, Medium   Eyes: Brown

overall impression:

nice smell in the jar (kind of like... floral chocolate?), golden, shimmery bronze color. applies evenly and develops to a nice, rich golden-bronze... takes anywhere from 3-7 days to fade, but fades evenly. i use this mainly for dance competitions - i get a dark magic/mystic tan as a base, then layer this for about 2 nights, and then the night before the competition, if i'm not dark enough, i'll get a second spray tan (medium) for a boost. for summers... it'll maintain a nice, natural glow if you apply every 3-4 days, even on my very fair, neutral asian skin (MAC NC15/20, bobbi brown cool beige, bareminerals fair). i use rubber gloves though, because your hands do turn pretty orange with applications, even if you put hand cream before & wash after. however, i will use SMALL amounts on the tops of my hands so that it doesn't look like my hands have been forgotten.

i apply all over, face, neck, arms & legs, torso, back, tops of hands & feet (remember to put petrolem jelly/cream on your nails & cuticles, and a thin layer of cream all over your hands before you apply, so it doesn't turn too dark) for a nice, natural, even glow. it turns me from NC15 to about an NC25-35, depending on how many days i layer it. i find it works best if you apply before you sleep & rinse it off in the morning with cool water.

it also goes on even better if you exfoliate before the first application & refrain from using loofahs/sponges etc. while you have the tan (prolongs the tan).

pros:

even application, beautiful color (no orange), develops fairly dark after 1 application, easy application. fades very naturally and evenly too. did not cause any problems for me on my dry/combo skin - no dryness, and no breaking out either. left a moisturizing, silky texture.

cons:

EXPENSIVE. it's about $55 canadian... for essentially about 4.5 ounces (half a measuring cup) of cream. smell - smells nice in the beginning, BUT still has the telltale self-tanner (warm dirt? dusty biscuits?) smell once it starts working.

also, when i stopped using it and took it out a few months later for a second competition, i had found that the half a jar of cream i had left had liquefied into a pool of goo (NOT at all like the texture it was when i initially purchased it, it had turned from a nice, whipped gel-cream consistency into a oily, gooey, liquid-y consistency)... NOT cool, since i paid a hefty sum for this (you can get 2 professional spray tans for the price of this cream, for essentially darker, and more competition-intensity results).

the verdict:

i liked it in the beginning, but i don't know if i'll repurchase, even as a "booster" cream for my spray tans since the cream DOES NOT KEEP WELL at all. jergens glow lotion or whatever it's called works much better, for a lot cheaper, and does not discintegrate into oblivion because i stop using it for a few months!

only get this cream if you plan on using it regularly, i.e. in the summer months, because the formula does change if you keep it without using it for several weeks. if you are the kind of person to use self-tanner regularly, then i would say that this is a great option for you, but if you're like me, and only bust it out for special occasions, then you're better off paying for the spray tan & buying a drugstore option to boost & maintain the professional results.

My HG self tanner. I'm asian, and my skin responds pretty well to most self tanners. I have used st tropez, ella bache, fake bake and modelco. This Clarins one is the best. I'm pretty clumsy when applying but the gel formula is almost foolproof and there are no obvious streaks. The colour is a lovely golden brown and fades slowly. It is easy to build upon and works on the face well.

if i'm having an ugly day i'll just use this under my makeup instead of moisturizer and by mid morning the colour shines through.

I've bought this 4 times now.

I actually like this...and I have tried MANY self tanners in my life (St Tropez, Fake Bake, Neostrata, Lancome, L'Oreal, Jergens, and the list goes on). The reviewer below me is right when she says the bronze you get is similar to the one you get from L'Oreal, but for me, the difference can be seen in the way this fades. This ST is the first one ever that fades evenly, without blotches, without me looking like I suffer from some skin disease! Also, the other big plus to this is that my palms don't get stained, if I wash them as soon as I'm done applying the cream.
I love the consistency of this product, it's so easy to scoop out of the tub and spread (I don't use the spatula provided, I just stick my fingers in). It is difficult to miss spots as the caramely guide lets you know where you put it. It dries fairly fast (although not as fast as some other ST), and provided you apply it at night and shower in the morning, it does not stain your clothes at all.
Even though the initial scent is nice, it does smell like self tanner 5 minutes after applying, Not as bad as others, but still, it does. That's why I recommend using it at night before bed and showering in the morning. It is moisturizing, so I'm afraid to try it on my face (I'm oily acne-prone).
In the morning I get a perfect even tan, that lasts me about a week (another record for me). I have only used it once per week so I don't know how dark it can make you, but based on the result I got from one application per week, I'd say it can make one quite dark. The color is pretty natural, it does look a bit orangey in a certain light, but in daylight and most lightings is looks natural.
It is expensive, so I'm hoping the tub will last me through the whole summer (I think it will, as you only need a tiny bit to cover your whole body).
I really think this is one of the best ST out there, my previous "love" was Clarins Intense Bronze lotion (which was ok to use on my face as well).
EDIT 8/14/09 - OK, I like it but not LOVE it. I guess no self tanner is ever going to be perfect, at least not on me. I tried going for a darker look, so I applied it 3 nights in a row, showering in the morning, and even though the color showed up nicely and evenly after the first night, night 2 and 3 didn't make much difference, I just couldn't get darker. It also started showing some patches on the insides of my arms, and around the ankles, maybe not as much as other STs, but still. It also faded in patches. So I think the best use for this ST is just one coat left overnight, which gives the skin a nice even glow and fades evenly. More than that, it doesn't work for me. And the standard ST smell is becoming more pronounced, the more I dig into the jar. Still a good product of course, but I'm afraid no fake tan is ever going to look as great as a natural one :(

I hate to be one of the lone dissenters, but this product is a waste of money. Paula dissed it on her beautypedia site, but I decided to give it a try because I don't always agree with her. When I bought this, I also got L'Oreal's Sublime Bronze Luminous Bronze lotion. Just for kicks I applied Clarins on one arm and L'Oreal's on the other. In the morning, they both looked identical. In fact, the L'Oreal one was a tad darker. If I can spend $8.00 instead of $42 for the same results, it is a no brainer. I am returning Clarins today.

I am torn because this product works so well and so quickly, within a few hours one application gives me a dark golden tan. However, the flip side is the $48 dollar pricetag. The gel like texture makes this so easy to apply and there is a hint of tint which gives a good guide of where you need more colour. Does not break me out. Smells deliciously like coconuts and you get a lot of product. However, this works so well that I will probably shell out the big bucks when the tub is gone.

I guess this did past the test when I only applied it once and then everyone I met the next started commenting on my amazing tan! I'm almost pale as it gets so this was a surprise especially when they couldn't believe it was a tan in a bottle.
I only used it on my face and decolletage since it did stink to high heaven. It felt thick and sticky but the payoff was a success so I'll definitely be using it this summer.

I love this self tanner. I've stayed away from self tanners for several years because of the fear of that orangey streaky look. I was in Sephora and got to talking one of the sales assoc. and she recommended I give this a try. I figured I would since I can return it if I didn't like it. Well I've used this for about a month now and I absolutely love. No orangey color or streaking. It's glides on so smooth and smells like cocoa. The color is a natural tan and can be built up with multiple applications for those that like a deeper bronzer color. The price is a bit much but I really only use it once every week or two. The only thing I can recommend it to exfoliate really well prior to application and sleep in it overnight and shower off the next morning. You will still notice color within about 30 mins after applying so if you prefer to apply in the morning its still works and looks great.

OMG! Gives the most beautiful color I've ever seen from a self tanner. I was so reluctant to part with the $42 to purchase this one but I'm determined to stay out of the tanning beds this year. I only use Clarins on my face b/c I really like the Jergens Natural Glow in Med/Tan for my body. If I weren't so cheap, I would use the Clarins all over b/c this is truly a gorgeous tan (BROWN) color. I've used so many tanners on my face and I always end up looking slightly yellow. Even my 13 yr old noticed that my face is brown. I really love the cocoa scent and texture to this lotion. I've always applied facial tanners in the evening and then washed them off after a few hours b/c I couldn't stand the greasy feel. Clarins is moisturizing but not at all greasy. The bronzer is very nice as well... not orange or shimmery. I can't say enough about Clarins self tanner. Love it, love it.

Without a doubt, the BEST self tanner I have ever used and I will never use another brand after experiencing this one. I must have tried somewhere in the region of 40 brands of self tanner both expensive and cheap and every time, the colour was just not quite right (I'm celtic complexion- black hair, green eyes and pale skin) or else it left my skin dry and streaky. This is truly delicious- it actually smells nice and not the usual burnt biscuit smell that you usually get from self tanners. Its tinted so you can see where you've applied it and its a lovely pale walnut colour and very very smooth, almost like body cream. I actually don't need to use an additional moisturiser when I use this as its so creamy and moisturising and i've got dry skin so its obviously very nourishing.
The absolute best thing about this cream is the colour- an amazing golden tan colour with not a hint of horrid yellow or orange that you get with so many brands. Its easy to apply as you can see where its gone on your skin and not at all streaky. In fact, someone I met at work the other day asked me if I had spanish parents due to my "black hair and olive skin" ha ha- my skin is naturally a typical irish white colour!! I thought this was such a compliment and am totally convinced that this will forever more be my HG self tanner. My only criticism is that its expensive and the pot is fairly small so you do go through it quickly. Still, I guess you get what you pay for. Loving this product!!!

Wow this would have to be one of the best self tans ive ever used. gave a great natural colour and was really easy to apply. my biggest grudge with self tanners is usually the smell - but this was fine - just a lingering cocoa smell. colour also lasted well - will buy again. Wish it came in a tube!

One of the best sunless tanners that I've tried.... also one of the more expensive tanners. The color that get from this is a very natural brown; no orange, no pink. It glides on very smoothly and evenly and is very moisterizing. Some say they hate the smell but I actually like it! Would definitely buy again.

This product is the best self tanner I've ever used! I am light and this is the ONLY tanner that doesn't turn me orange. It took me about 3 application to get a healthy tan. A little expensive, I've only used it a few times and it's almost half way gone. Makes me a little sad how much I have to use to get the color I want. But it's prefect for those that are desperate for a tan. It looks so real! Be careful of the streaks oon your angles though!

This self tanner is one of my favourites! After taking a break from self tanning, this does not disappoint. It is one of the better smelling tanners with a nice scent (but I still recommend that you apply before bed and shower in the morning to get rid of the slight DHA smell). It does not streak at all and the colour builds up each time you apply it. It looks really natural on my fair skin and I use this in conjunction with the Clarins Intense Bronze Self Tanning Tint for the face. I definitely recommend it, but the only downside is the price. Quite expensive for a little jar but a little bit goes a long way with this.
