Ohhh, I am so frustrated. I paid $16 for a miniature ice pack (you know those things that are made of waterproof cloth with a screwtop lid?) at Merz apothocary when I was in Chicago. I had a splitting headache, and not a lot of ideas for where to buy a similar product. So, I plunked down almost $18 (with tax) for a bag that was about 1/3 the normal size. If it had worked, money would have been well spent. I filled it with hot tap water (instructions say this is okay), and put it on my head. I noticed the bag seemed to be leaking, so poured the water out and looked inside. Low and behold, I find a piece of TAPE covering a small crack. When I get home, I write the company asking for a replacement. They had me pay to ship the item back to them since I couldnt return to the place where I purchased. So now, I have over $20 invested in this thing. Today I get an email, where no joke, one of the owners implied I was scamming them. I will paste it here. What do you guys think?

From Shannon Larkin at Gal-Pal
I received your ice bag, and I have to tell you it looks really used and its pretty dirty, I also looked where you suggested that someone put tape inside the ice bag to “cover up” a possible leak, I actually rubbed whatever it was off, it was more like some kind of rubber/glue from the actually material and it rubbed right off. I have it sitting right her on my desk full of water and it has yet to leak. I have even put it upside down to see if perhaps the leak was coming from the lid and no leak.

I will replace this ice bag as I see no evidence of a leak. Our manufacturer has guaranteed us that all ice bags are tested before they even go out to be shipped to us.

You new ice bag is on its way in the next few days.

My response:
This email does not sit well with me. I used the bag ONE time. I will be happy to send you the transaction details from my credit card in Chicago about 3 weeks ago. On principal I feel like telling you to keep the bag and simply warning consumers on boards about the bag issue and forwarding your email to the Merz apothecary where this was purchased. They may be interested to know that the product they are receiving looks well worn- again if I used it once, it must have been shoddy when they received it. Secondly the glue residue is there because I finished unpeeling the tape when I saw it. At the time I wondered if it was just stuck there by accident. When finished unpeeling, I saw the tear. So, perhaps the bag worked and then failed once the tape peeled. I had warm tap water in it at the time. The cloth on the bag became saturated in a circle, but it could have been the seal. It isn’t up to me to figure this out.
I shouldn’t have had to pay for shipping this item when the fault was NOT mine. I should not have had to receive a mail stating “I have to tell you..” with the implication that I was pulling one over on you.
So, this time and this time only” I will accept your replacement bag and hope it doesn’t leak onto my head again when I have a splitting headache
