This contains Azelaic acid 200mg. This white cream was easy to apply. It did shrink my pimples but at the same speed as typical pimple cream duration. It did irritate my skin a little and made my skin feels itchy. I hope this worked better but it was just alright.

I think this is a good product. It dries up annoying pustule pimples in a matter of a few hours or a day. I just hate that it kinda burns and itches, but if it works, it works. My pharmacist cousin gave it to me, so idk how to use it properly, though i don't think who ever has sensitive skin should use it on their entire face. I use it as a spot treatment since it burns too much. I wouldn't say if it's good for prevention. It didn't do much for those bumpy painful pimples, but they did go away in about 2-3 days (even though they usually have a lovely one week vacation on my face). I'd buy it again since it's the only thing that worked well enough for me.

People people! did u seriously read the instruction of the application? its not supposed to be applied all over the face but on the exact area of problem, meaning that this should only be a spot treatment. it should only be dottedly applied on your pimple. acne, whatever it is your having. this is not a moisturizer so massaging it on your face is a big NO NO! your face will definitely itch yah know!

I used the gel form and not the cream. This is one of the worst products that I have ever tried. When I first applied it, it itched, stung, and burned. I had a pimple on my cheek that was flat (I'd treated it with salicylic acid earlier). After I applied this gel to it, the next morning it was raised and inflamed. I also got several other zits after using it and have since altogether stopped using it. Has taken about 2 weeks so far to get my skin to clear up again after the damage that was done.

Please note--- This is my personal experience. Skinoren worked for my skin. It is possible that it doesn't work for your skin or it may work as good as it worked for me.

Skinoren saved me from a really bad breakout 5 years ago. Since then I have been using it now and then (I ONLY have 1-3 small pimples around my period and sometimes I have none, it also depends on my stress level) and it still work wonders for my skin!
Let me tell you my little story. 5 years ago I worked in the UK in the summer time. The food, the water and the stress took a wrong turn and I've found myself in a desperate situation of trying to get rid of my cystic acne (something I have never had before!).
My skin was looking like this: my jawline, my chin and my forehead were full of ugly, red, painful, inflamed pimples, bumps and cysts. The bumps were always under the skin, very few were coming out and when they were out they were full of puss or water. The cysts were always painful and big. Disgusting.
At first, I didn't pay too much attention but then I was shocked to see they weren't going away so I started to panic. First I thought is just my PMS but they continued to appear. I started to become more stressed and I was picking my face all the time and had loots of scars...Really, this was the worst period of my life regarding my face.
I also have blackheads on my nose (always had them), near the nose and on my chin.
So I asked my doctor about my problem and she gave me Skinoren. I didn't think it would save me so fast but HONESTLY it did save my skin. She told me I would experience nasty rash...I said, well I can handle it...Yeaaah right! My face was : itchy, red, dry, covered with flakes on the treated areas, my face was stinging, yes stinging. In the first few mins I had no reaction but after 10mins I thought I will rip my face off. My skin was itchy, burning and red. I did scratch! The next day I woke up, I washed my face and my skin was ok: it wasn't red anymore nor so itchy, the bumps started to change the colour into purple from red and they were starting to get flat. I still had flakes (these go away hard, but hey I was young and I wanted miracles).
I continued using the cream for the next week and my skin was starting to recover. I had to endure everything but slowly I started to get used to it.
All my pimples, bumps, cysts went away, my scars were starting to fade, even the old ones and my blackheads were starting to break lose. Now, after 5 years that I have been using Skinoren 1 or 2 times per month (sometimes not even once a month) my skin is looking muuuuch better: I don't get hormonal cysts anymore, I don't have old scars anymore, I only have very few pimples when I am on my PMS and period. Blackheads: if you are consistent and put the cream on the blackheads, they will start to go out in 1- 2 days day but you have to use it more days so that you have good results. Don't pick them after the first day. Wait more days.
Skinoren is drying so you need a good moisturiser but it also makes your skin oily (I am not bothered with this because it works very well for my other problems).
I hate the tube- I used to squeeze it (even if I was just half way trough and I was putting it vertical on the shelf) so I can get every little bit of the cream but the next time I was using it, the cream would just flow and then I had too much cream. Now I squeeze it only when it is 99 finished and I put it horizontal and I have no problems with having too much.
I will repurchase.

Has anyone used this for hair loss that is dht related? Thats the same cause for male pattern baldness and it occurs in women also. If so, did it make the hair oily? Dry? Hard to comb or manage? I need to use Rogaine but it makes my hair SO hard, tangled and difficult to move that it also dries it and makes it break. I'm looking for something else ladies. Please chime in or email me here. Thank you so much!

The only thing that made my face look better is Skinoren. Till Skinoren, I have tried some commercial products (Nivea, Vichy) and some medicals (Differin), but I haven't had any results. With Skinoren, my face got better in 2-3 weeks and in 1 month it was wonderful. I was very satisfied. I don't have big inflammatory acne but mild acne.

The cons: cream makes your skin itching and it bleach your skin so you could look like ghost. I don't mind that a lot because it is more important for me to have smooth skin. Also, it is written in instructions that you cant use Skinoren more than 6 months (i don't know why is that) but I am not planning to stick with that.

At this point, I have been using Skinoren for 6 month once daily and I am still satisfied with its effects. I don't know will this lest forever but I am hoping it will.

I am 39 years old & still get acne :(
I have tried many products over the years & nothing worked until I tried skinoren. My doctor had previously prescribed metrogel which he thinks is the best for acne, but it never worked for me. After doing research on the internet, I came accross this cream and thought it was worth giving it a try. I went back to my drs for a prescription as we can not buy it over the counter in the uk & I started using it 3 weeks ago. The difference already is amazing. My skin is so much smoother & my spots are about 80% gone already. I have rosacea which is not too bad at the moment as it is summer ( it is always worse in winter) so my main problem was the spots I had on both sides of my neck & along my jawline. I have had this problem for years & thought nothing would get rid of them. I really can not recommend skinoren enough. I know different products work for different people, but for me this has been excellent. The only slight problem is after applying it, I itch for about 5 minutes but that is a small price to pay for spot free skin !!

I used to have dry, sensitive skin AND acne (god help me), so I had a really hard time finding a product that world help clear acne without drying and irritating my skin. Skinoren was the solution for me. No more zits, no more bumps, no more hyperpigmentation, no more redness. Can be a tad drying, so I use a gentle cleanser (if I´ve been wearing makeup during the day and moisturize 15 min after application.

I have changed my mind actually. It is very good cream, overtime with other products it smoothed my skin and got rid off all the spots. I yse it every 3-4 days in evenig and it makes mt skin look nice imediaely, it also moisturises it well.

I was prescribed this for mild rosacea. I hated it as soon as I felt the consistency - feels like zinc oxide blended with ground street chalk. It is hard to blend into the skin, so I would imagine it would be difficult to use at any time except before bed. I find it odd that it is prescribed for rosacea because it feels very drying and I could feel my cheeks burning after applying, which tells me it is quite irritating (again, HOW can this be GOOD for rosacea?). After 2 days I developed a pus-filled pimple on my lower cheek (right above the mouth). Tonight I also noticed a small zit forming on my cheek and it is very rare for me to get zits in that spot.

Maybe I didn't stick it out long enough, but I am quitting this product and am angry that I have two full tubes. But it is not worth it for me if I am already developing pimples... and if anything my skin feels more irritated and looks redder. I will not be taking the risk.

Oh my.. what such bad reviews this product has. I have only good things to say about this product. Firstly let it be known that I CAN NOT use any Retin-A products at all. It makes my skin all itchy and further aggravates my break out. Anything with RetinA - NO NO.

Back to this product, you can get it here in Malaysia for around RM40 (equv to USD11) for any local pharmacies. (I have yet to look out for Acnederm though.. will look for it and will review it next).

As I suffer from blackheads Skinoren makes my skin becomes smoother the next morning. I do have to say that it can be a tad bit drying, you can layer a moisturizer on top of it. I layer it with Oil of Olay sometimes before I go to bed. It is a very thick skin so a little goes a long way. I find that the best time to put this cream is just before you hit bed. Should you put it way earlier and sweat, it "may" cause itchiness. I do not recommend this to be put on in the morning though.

I am already on my 3rd tube and have been using this for over a year. Nowadays i use it once a week.

Basically, I agree with the comments before me.

Skinoren was given to me for free by a friend of mine, who is a doctor. He used to get acne when he was in his twenties and Skinoren got rid of it. He used it continuously for 4 years without any side effects, and now that he's in his thirties and has stopped using Skinoren for a couple of years, his acne has not come back.

Unfortunately, Skinoren did not work for me. I applied it religiously to my chin for about two months before I gave up and chucked it way.

Reasons why I don't like it:
- It does not absorb very well.
- It moisturises tooooooo well. When I went out with skinoren on, I could literally feel my chin attracting all the moisture and going wet. Then I would return home and see new pimples forming.
- It didn't unclog my pores.
- I still got a lot of new pimples while using it.

I was going to give up on azelaic acid (the active ingredient in Skinoren) but then I came across Lolablue's post (below) about how she used to use Acnederm (also with 20% azelaic acid) with success. I've gone and bought a tube (a bit more expensive than Skinoren considering how small the tube is) and it's been working fabulously so far.

do. not. like. I started out using AcneDerm, and even though it's a cream base I never found it pore clogging or irritating, and it worked well for me. I decided to try skinoren because it's also a cream base and came in a slightly larger size tube than the AcneDerm for the same price. big mistake. clogged my pores immediately and horribly, and unlike w/ AcneDerm I did experience a little itching w/ this. used about 1/3 of the tube before finally giving up and chucking it.

Skinoren is said to be the same as Finacea. (They are both 15% Azeliac acid) One good thing about skinoren is that you can purchase it thru canadian websites without a Rx. I liked that it calmed my skin. It made the redness less & less through out the day. And it also helped my cystic acne. I also liked that it was a cream consistency, so I never needed moisturizer. BUT... as it brought all the gunk to the surface, I kept getting tons of skin colored bumps that were not inflamed- but if I squeezed it, gunk would come out. I used skinoren for a month and these bumps did not go away, unless I squeezed it, which then made it red & icky... Now that I'm using finacea, (which I love!!) I can say that this is not the same. But its a good, less expensive option- as long as it doesn't give you clogged pores/bumps.

I was given this by a doctor to treat my facial skin, after it had randomly erupted. I was very wary at the beginning, as I have been using organic/natural products for a while now, and this is a harsh acid (though naturally found in certain yeasts). I found that it was very gentle, although there was a slight tingling and itching when I first put it on. Unfortunately two weeks later there is no difference in my skin, no improvement or worsening, so I have stopped using it.

Skinoren is a Rx product that comes in both gel and cream form. Its active ingredient is 20% azelaic acid, which has both anti-bacterial and exfoliating properties. I started to use Skinoren cream when my skin was at its worst. Literally, every single pore on my face was clogged and I had some big, angry red pimples all along my jaw and all over my cheeks. Skinoren is supposed to be really good at fading red marks and lightening your skin, but I didn't see any of that happening really.

I started to use Skinoren every day (waited 20 min after cleansing) and did not use moisturizer afterwards because Skinoren was already a cream. The thing about Skinoren is that it ITCHES like crazy! You'll seriously want to scratch your face off. However, after you use it more, your skin gets used to it and the itching subsides.

I used Skinoren for about two months and thought it was pretty great. It seemed to bring all the gunk under my skin to the surface, so when I first started using Skinoren, it made every single clogged pore turn red and come to a head.

The derm who prescribed Skinoren to me told me that it was a bit harsher than Differin. I agree in that it made my skin really itchy, but I didn't get the flushing and sensitivity that I got with Differin. After Skinoren got all my big pimples flattened and clogged pores unclogged, I stopped using it because I couldn't stand the itching. Plus, I started to suspect that the cream form was giving me some clogged pores too! So basically, Skinoren is great for pulling all the nasty stuff out of your skin but maybe gel form is better for clog-prone skin.

UPDATE 3/14/08: I've started to use Skinoren 15% Gel (the same ingredients as Finacea) and like it a whole lot better than the cream. They both look pretty much the same when you squeeze it out of the tube, but the gel feels much lighter. It also does not itch as much!
