What is it?

Classic YSL fragrance. Dominated by florals (rose, violets, jasmine) on a warm base of musk and amber.

How does it work for me?

Extremely well!!

YSL Paris has become my signature scent quite recently. The story behind it is fascinating. Let's just say - it's not a perfume I would have tried myself.

Me and hubby were in France and I had eyed Thierry Mugler's Angel for quite some time. Tried it on one wrist so he could sniff it. Nice, but no overwhelming reaction. He brought out Paris and said "just try this one for me, will you". My initial reaction - old lady floral -> soapy drydown (as most florals on me), yuck! Tried it and was pleasantly surprised by the initial burst of rose and violets (I get them real strong in the initial scent although they are supposedly a mid-note in the perfume). Not too bad out of the bottle - left them both brewing on the wrists to see the outcome.

A couple of hours later - Angel has turned to a sticky, sweet, slobbering mess on one wrist. Paris has developed into a monster of sophistication - wafts of amber, spice and warmth(probably the musk), occasional peeks through of flowers (rose, violets, jasmine). Totally at one with my skin and me.

Need very little - one dab behind each knee, one dab in the small of the back. Stays all day, leaves warm, beautiful remnants in my clothes and I can almost sniff the base notes on me the following morning.

Hubby loves it, other men love it, other women love it. I get constant sniffs and comments "you smell lovely" being the most common.

In love - year round, every day, day and night. I do vary with others from time to time but always end up back with Paris.

Overall verdict:
HG - a staple in my perfume wardrobe that I repurchase time and again.

For well over a decade, Paris has been my signature. I searched for a rose scent for years, before discovering this beauty. Luckily, it blends with my body chemistry to produce the most luscious, intoxicating scent...definitely not "old lady", otherwise, I wouldn't have received the hundreds of complements I have from men of ALL ages. I have yet to have anyone say..."I love your perfume." They say..."you smell so beautiful!" That is how your fragrance should be perceived...like a natural essence dripping from your very pores. A little goes a long way, so go light...and if you're lucky to have the right chemistry for Paris, it will attract men like no other.

Paris starts off like an aging dragon woman who relies on attar of rose to cover up her bathtub-gin habit. Over the course of many hours, it sheds its skin and reveals a heart of candied violets and youthful indiscression.

What a shame. Paris is my favorite city, and I have such beautiful memories of the three months I spent there for a semester abroad experience. However, this fragrance does not capture the city at all to me. It's very flirty and floral and sweet, but much too girly. I imagine that you need to giggle a lot while wearing this perfume. I'm not a giggler by nature, unfortunately. It would be great for a teenager, but I'm in my mid-twenties now...I want something with a little more soul. :-)

Ugg- This scent is so heavy. I got this as a gift from a friend who came back from Paris. I hate it- not for everyday.

this would be 3.5 stars for me. I completely agree with everything in Soie's review, i think it is an exact accurate description of this scent. (mildly spicy/powdery.) It's really nice actually for a floral!

I am reconsidering using this as my signature scent. The problem is that every time i get a signature scent, some jealous chick always steals it. First it was Amarige. I don't mind though, because the girl who stole it from me used it to get a man who later married her. Heh. She looks like me too. Then it was Boucheron Initial, and my sister in law did that too. So I am getting this and not letting anyone see the bottle. The scent dries powdery on me, but it is strong at first. I love the way it wears off tho.

I did not appreciate this much. I love the name of this fragrance but I think the bottle looks cheap. First it smells ok with roses and something soft and sweet and then it turns very soapy and strong and gave me a major headache. Not for me.

I haven't made up my mind on this one yet. I love the bottle but right now I'm not loving the perfume. My first impression was that it's much too sweet for me and I was afraid it would give me a headache but it didn't. I like a perfume with roses in it but after several tries with this one it just isn't working for me. I'm not giving up on it yet so I'll update my review should I change my mind.

I started wearing this in the late 80's...I think I got a free test sample, and I was hooked. It is very fresh and romantic. I haven't worn it in awhile, but it is/was a scent I always loved. I only wear it in the spring and summer though... it just has that "light" kind of atmosphere to it, smells almost as if you were slightly intoxicated, if that makes ANY sense! At any rate, I think it's a classic.

Pretty little bottle. Smells initially of candy on me, then drys down to a violet (with a bit of powder) scent. It reminds me of the way the sheets smell at my fiance's very old plantation house. Sweet, floral, and a teensy bit musty, but that "good, old home, beachy smelling, dusty musty, not nasty mildewy musty.

I am a late bloomer when it comes to YSL's Paris. I only tested this a few months ago with cavewoman. This scent is one of her all time favorite rose fragrances. I had fallen hard for her previous rose recomendation 2000 et une Rose by Lancome. My hopes were high for this one. I was not disappointed. It was beautiful and rich. The notes are rose petals, orange blossom, mimosa, cassia, hyacinth, orris, jasmine, ylang ylang, amber, musk, iris, helitrope and lily of the valley. Great lasting power but no match for the fantastic sillage of Creed's FDTRB or Lancome's 2000 et une Rose. However I really loved it and hope to purchase the parfum bottle soon. I would award this 5-6 lippies.

I generally don't wear perfume, but if I did I would wear this one. It smells very citrusy and flowery. Definitely a good fragrance for the spring. I always feel classy wearing it.

Ahh... the sent of luxury and indulgence. But I personally prefer the eau de primtemps version, which is more wearable but no less distinctive in my opinion. (Actually, I just mean BOTH don't smell all that distinctive as rose scents go, to my perhaps undiscerning nose... I can imagine all the Paris fans waiting to bash me up haha!) What I DO like is how lush and expansive a floral it is. It's take-no-prisoners, kick-em-in-the-head rose. It's also not as expensive as some high-end scents can be. I like to spray it on in the shops when I'm window-shopping alone and don't have anyone else with me. For the simple reason that they all feel it's WAY too heady, or that it gives me a throbbing headache on hot days. Sigh. Nowadays, I just look at it in on the racks, and then reach for something else.

This is my HG of perfumes. I have worn it since 1993 when I picked it up in Europe. (In Paris actually :) That being said, if you don't like rose based scents, this is not the fragrance for you. Rose is definately the base note here. I have 3 versions of Paris:Printemps, Paris de Bois, and the original. I love them all, but then again, rose was always my favorite fragrance!
