I love this w/ the Shiseido base! I also wipe the edge of the brush against the opening as I pull it out to make sure not too much formula is on the brush and it give great length and lift. It doesn't make my lashes too voluminous but I don't care too much about that. I want LENTH and HEIGHT. After my shu umera, the mascara base curls my Asian lashes sky high and keeps it there while this cool brush covers ever little inch of my lashes and defines and lengthens. I think the brush is the best part because it is so easy to swipe on the mascara now. I hate bulky brushes.
Now for the cleaning my face part--the base and mascara come off with no pulling or tugging when I use Clinique's Take the day off makeup remover OR the much cheaper version from Neutrogena called Oil Free Makeup remover. The neutrogena one for some reason is more slippery than the clinique one. They both essencially have the same main ingredient. I just soak a cotton ball, press on my lashes for a couple seconds and start gently wiping at my lashes until the feel clean. No tugging or pulling so I don't lose any lashes. And I am obsessed with keeping every single lash I have since I don't have a lot to start with =)
**UPDATE 3/19/07**
I am returning this mascara only because I decided it doesn't do enough for my lashes. It does lift them and keep them lifted but so does my Shiseido mascara base. This one doesn't do much at all for volume and I decided that it just isn't dramitic enough for me. Good mascara but I already have the base which lifts and curls already. I am sticking w/ Lancomes Definicils and Maybeline's Full and Soft.

I really love how this mascara holds my curls, since mine usually tend to uncurl by the end of the day. It also lengthens and gives me the right amount of volume. It does not smudge but it does flake a little bit by the end of the day. I found a technique for not making your lashes clump when you have too much of it on your wand. When you pull it out, try tilting it to the side so one side of the wand rubs onto the inner side of the tube so most of the product comes off. Once you take it out, one side of the wand should have the right amount of product and just use that side. I thought this was less messy than wiping it on a tissue. :)

Love this mascara! I bought this after reading the MUA reviews and I am so glad that I did. I was a bit worried when I first pulled the wand out and it looked like the bristles were very short but it is the best brush I've used. I have short, sparse, straight lashes and this mascara really works to keep the curl and lengthen my lashes. I also use the Shiseido Mascara Base and the combination of the two works wonders.

It is more difficult to take off this mascara than other mascaras I've tried but Ponds Bare and Repair works well to remove it, probably any more oily type remover (the kind you have to shake to emulsify) would work best because I had been using Loreal Eye Makeup Remover and it didn't budge this mascara.

I wish that this was a bit cheaper and that it was sold where I live but thank goodness for mail/internet shopping and since it works I won't mind paying extra. I highly recommend this mascara, especially for shorter, hard to curl lashes.

the only bad thing about this product is the price. it curls my lashes and darkens them and lasts the longest of all the mascaras i've used.

This is very very irritating for me eyes, my eyes are not usually sensitive to alot of makeup but this made them itchy and puffy. It does not separate my eye lashes like most mascaras, but weighs them down. i then tried it with a different brush and it made my eyelashes more seperated and alot longer but it still was a heavy and irritating. I bought this in black and will soon take it back to the MA who sold me this. The best advice i can give here is that a good mascara is 50% formula and 50% brush. When you find the right formula with the right brush you good to go. BTW it was really hard to remove this.

Try this short lashes girls! It lift and volumise your lashes nicely. For me this one is as HG as Stephane Marais's comb mascara (discontinued, but maybe this one will clump in time while my SM still moist after a year. Will come back for more..

Lasting Lift Mascara is inky, jet black, and truly holds a curl through tears, humidity, rain, whatever. It will not melt and smear. Great for special events, but it's too hard to remove to be an everyday mascara. Love it, though, for that wide-eyed, doe lash look. The short bristles really give lashes even coverage and volume. The formula is wet, but after it dries, you really can't add more coats: it will clump. I recommend using a lash comb with this mascara.

Horrible!! The tiny, little wand is like a Q-tip that's been stripped down to the stick, there is no brush. I couldn't get this on without getting it all over my lashline. It was extremely irritating. My eyes were sore and swollen for days after I stopped using it. Oh, and I almost forgot, it is nearly impossible to remove.

After reading the reviews, especially by people with short straight Asian lashes, I purchased this with the mascara base. I was horrified after a few hours --- the ends of my lashes looked like fish hooks!! Then in the evening when I tried to remove it, I couldn't. It was awful. I went from MAC Fibre Riche because I was having an allergic reaction to this Shiseido mascara. I'm afraid to try it again...... I think I found my HG -- the Vincent Longo regular mascara used as a base, topped off with the Curl mascara has a much nicer look and comes off with no problems.

This is the most effective curling mascara I have come across. I would like to give it a higher rating but unfortunately this mascara is impossible to get off! Normally I can get away with using a deep cleansing face wash at night that removes all of my makeup. But with this mascara, after I wash my face, there are dried clumps stuck onto my lashes. I tried gently pulling the clumps off once and my lashes came out with them! Even with mu remover, it was difficult to get it all off and my eyes didn't feel "clean". Also, perhaps it was the fibers in the primer I always use, but this became very clumpy after a month. It's not worth all these problems so, I'm searching for a new curling m/s now =(

If you're not getting the maximum lift from this mascara, the reason is because you need the Shiseido mascara base. sighs... what a match made in heaven. I have almond shaped Asian eyes. I need sky high curls to make my eyes pop. I really don't care for volume. This mascara makes every lash look natural and tightly curled. Holds like a dream when precurled and used with the base. No webs......oh... I can't say enough!

I have stick-straight lashes, but between my Shu Uemura curler, Shiseido Mascara Base and Lasting Lift I've actually managed to get a little curl going. Also, the brush works EXTREMELY well on the bottom lashes ... better than anything I've ever tried, seriously. Anyone with naturally long lashes, who wants that fake eyelash look, might actually GET IT with this mascara. It does require some practice though, as this isn't your typical mascara wand. The only thing that's throwing me here is the scent. It's kinda got a nail-salon / cheap lotion smell to it ... at least for me anyway. It *does* go away after about an hour though, so hang tight. That, paired with the extra effort needed to remove it, MIGHT throw some people off, but all in all, the product delivers and stays put.

this mascara is great. it does exactly what it's called. it's LASTS and it LIFTS. it lifts as you apply to dry a slight curl to the lashes. love it. i have reasonably long lashed but because of my eye shape (asian), my lashes point straight forward instead of up. when i use this mascara, i do not need to use an eyelash curler. now the "lasting" part. well, i have extremely oily eyes and this does NOT transfer. i have gone to the beach to swim with this mascara on and it stays on. i feel confident going to the gym even with it on through all the sweat, because it will stay on. well, the one downside (and minus 1 lippie) is that is actually is difficult to take off. so difficult, i on rare ocassions leave it on for days. the one thing that does work for me is using pond's eye makeup remover (light blue liquid stuff)...i saturate a cotton ball and hold it to my lashes for about 30-40 secs, and wipe away. even then i sometimes feel like i have stuff left but i don't mind. i like the super fake lash look anyways :)

I loved this mascara - held the curl and didn't smudge. As far as removal, try Almay's Moisturizing Makeup Pads. Works great.

I am *so* glad I read the reviews on P'ville and lemming'd this.
I have wacky Asian lashes. Some say that they're long but the big problem is that they're skimpy, thin and don't hold a curl.

I purchased this with the Shiseido base and am extremely happy. The base seems to hold the curl and the Lasting Lift covers in one coat so I don't need much for the day and the curl holds.

It is extremely difficult to remove but I'm used to waterproof mascaras so it's not a big deal. It's also nice to know that this stuff doesn't flake away or turn gray like other mascaras.

Definitely added to my stable to mascaras.

Contrary to its name, this "lasting" lift mascara does not last on me unless I apply a good mascara base. It can also be a gloopy mess coming out of the container, and (even worse) it clumps on my lashes. Also, it's difficult to fully remove. Worse yet, my lashes tend to fall out when I use this mascara. On the positive side, it does look OK (decent "lift" and lengthening) once I comb out my lashes.

I liked the look this mascara gave but it CAN clump. Also, it's HORRIBLE to remove. I even soaked my cottonball with my remover and pressed it against my lashes but that didn't do the trick either. It does lift well for me, obviously it doesn't look curled like it would with an eyelash curler. I would continue using this but it's just too much of a pain to remove. Also, it smells HORRIBLE.

Well, Guerlain Waterproof Curving was my HG, until I used this. This is great! It doesn't send my Shu curled lashes flat because it's not wet and dries quickly. Also have found that it washes off with cleanser better than Guerlain. Agree with some reviewers that a lot gets on the brush, but if wiped a little on a tissue, it's just fine. Small wand + quick drying also means lashes can be brushed off to the side to create a more almond shape look. And two coats also adds a little volume (hence the amount of mascara on the brush). No smudges (or mascara goop in the lower outer eye corner) during wear. Would buy again and recommend -- especially for summer time!

I like this mascara, my only complaint is that too much product gets on the brush and I have to dab most of it off on a tissue before applying or it clumps my lashes together. On the plus side, it holds a curl and lengthens. For me, it flakes a little tiny bit near the end of a long day, though, that's good for me 'cause almost everything smudges on me. The thing that gets the extra mascara off at the opening keeps on coming out and I think it's causing my mascara to dry up much faster. Maybe mine was just defective. Overall, it's a good mascara. I will repurchase.
