I have faithfully used the Mint Julep Mask since I was in 9th grade, so when I saw the Mint Julep Scub I was very tempted to try it. I absolutely love this scrub, its very refreshing and the mint scent isn't too strong either. Minus one lippie because it can make sensitive skin inflamed if used daily (I use it two to three times a week). The best part is that it fits my budget. ^-^

I have fallen in love with this scrub, it's so amazing. I used St. Ives' scrub for years before discovering this and when I tried this, it felt so much better than the St. Ives. It's not as harsh on my skin as St. Ives was (there were times when my skin turned red and inflamed after I rinsed off the apicot scrub). This scrub leaves my skin feeling so clean, refreshed, and not irritated at all.

I got this by complete accident! I was trying to buy the mask! Oh well, I fell in love with this scrub so all is well. I don't use a scrub every day, but when I do, this feels so good but not too drying or to oily.

I have sensitive combo skin. I bought this product because of all the great reviews. Unfortunately, I'm in the minority here. The beads are really small, which is a good thing, but there are too few of them for my liking. Even when I use a ton of it, they're just too spread out for me to really do any exfoliating. I feel like I'm smearing a nasty paste onto my skin that has a few grains in it. I find a lot of scrubs to be like this, except for a few like St. Ive's Apricot Scrub, which I like much better and has the right number of grains, but the grains themselves are too large and rough.

This stuff also left a nasty film on my face.

I have combination skin, I've used Queen Helene's Mint Julep Masque and its amazing so I decided to try THIS!

How to Use:

First remove your makeup with a makeup remover cloth or just wash your face with whatever your using now.
This product is a scrub after all, it claims to remove the dull surface areas (ie. dead skin), so it has tiny grains and shouldn't be rubbed on like sandpaper. BE GENTLE to your skin! Gently rub the product on your face avoiding your eyes and mouth. You only need a little squirt from the tube! Then wash it off.. I mean ALL off with warm water. Make sure you dont miss any spots, you dont want grains on your skin left behind which can obviously make your skin worse. Follow up with a gentle moisturizer.

PROS:
- smell is nice (at least i think so)
- after you wash it off you can feel the smoothness of your skin, because the dead skin is off
- product does what it says
- cheap

CONS:
- can be dangerous (as any scrub) to use near your eyes because of the grains
- does not lather

Overall: If you know how to wash your face.. GENTLY..and you know how to WASH your face thoroughly, you should find this product works and makes your skin very smooth!

Suggestion : Don't use everyday, your face doesn't need to shed off dead skin everyday. Every other day for Dry/Combination skin and every 2 days for Oily/Normal skin.

Hope this helps!!

I bought this b/c I wanted to try the mint mask but the store was out, so this was the closest I could get.
The scrub isn't very rough or painful. The smell and look are a little akward. And it makes my face feel stripped/squeaky-clean afterwards.

I am disappointed and weary to find out that this has SLS in it, I've only been using it a week and so-far-no-pimples- let's hope it stays that way!

cheap and effective. the minty scent is refreshing. however, be careful how hard you rub the scrub on your face. it is very easy to go overboard, causing more harm to your skin than good.

Ok, I get it. Everyone in the world loves this scrub. For what its worth, the scrubby grains were more gentle than most. But this stuff trainwrecked my face harder than britney spears' career. I used it probably 3 times and ended up with the worst breakout i've had in forever. You know, the kind where you are late to work for a whole week because you can't stop bawling in the mirror while you try to paste your face back together. The high amount of ammonium lauryl sulfate could have done it, but I'm attributing it to some sort of curse put on me by Queen Helene herself.

I really do like this stuff. I mean, what is there to be upset about? The price is lower than low, the scent is pleasant and hardly discernible, and the exfoliation particles are the perfect size. I used to be a fan of St. Ive's Apricot scrub but then I read that the exfoliation bits in it were too large and are actually damaging to the skin. I was in Ulta today and saw that they had all Queen Helene products BOGOF so I thought, why not? When I tried this out and felt how fine the chunks were, I worried that it wouldn't be enough to exfoliate the dryness on my cheeks. I mean, I could feel it working but it felt a lot less abrasive than my former beloved apricot scrub. However, when I dried my face off, I had perfectly smooth and not overly dry skin. I am very pleased with this product and will repurchase. The only detrimental thing about the scrub is the screw-top packaging. :( But I think that's minor compared to how wonderful this is.

This scrub is just right, not too fine that its useless, and not so heavy that it makes your skin raw. I could see using it everyday. The smell isn't that great, its more like citronella than mint, but I can deal with that. Probably one of the cheapest beauty products I've tried in a while, and it works great.

I don't think I can add anything more that hasn't been said before. This scrub was just what I was looking for and at a bargain price too. Fine granules that actually felt like they exfoliated my skin. I would have given it a 5 but I am not crazy about the twist off cap and not in love with the scent, but it is the best I have found and will repurchase, in fact, I will be taking a couple of tubes home with me to the UK when I return :)

I am 56 and have been using this product for years. When I could no longer find it locally, I started ordering from the company -- and then online. It is amazing. Non-irritating, effective, and a wonderful fresh aroma. A great value and a product that works very well. I use it every other day -- sometimes more often. It makes me feel clean without irritating my face.

Mint Julep Scrub is absolutely brilliant- why did it take me so long to learn about Queen Helene? The particles are tiny, the scent is clean, and the results are solid. This scrub will clean your face without breaking you out or tearing up your skin- barring a miracle, that's pretty much all you can ask of a facial scrub. Oh, wait- you COULD ask for the scrub to be dirt cheap, as well. And if that's what you're asking for, you are in luck. At $3 or so a tube, drugstores might as well give this stuff away. I'd spend at least 10 times that price for a quality product like this.

Edit 06/20/09: I'm still using Queen Helen's Mint Julep scrub, and I'm more smitten than ever. However, this stuff has proven to be insanely difficult to find. As such, I've been ordering in bulk from Drugstore.com. Seriously, I must have tried about 50 NYC-area drugstores before resorting to ordering this product off the internet. In any case, since I have so much around, I've been using it as a body scrub, as well. As a body scrub, it beats Fresh, Ole Henriksen, Kiehls, Origins, and everything else that I can't think of right now.

And as for the impact as a facial scrub? I went to get the Triple-Oxygen facial at Bliss last year, and the facialist asked ME what I used to make my skin look so good. She gave me a large sample of the Laboratoire Remède Sweep to try in comparison, and I still prefer the Queen Helene. Considering that the Sweep exfoliator costs $48 for 2.5 ounces and the Queen Helene now runs about $3.50 for 6 ounces, this is an indisputable steal.

Track this product down at all costs. It's my favorite bargain of all time.

This scrub is great. Every drugstore scrub is I've had was a cream with chunky harsh granules that tear up your skin. This one is the exception to the rule. It is a fine, but not too fine scrub that doesn't leave crazy, harsh results on your face. This is definately a HE caliper scrub for about $3. I'd definately recommend it if you need a good scrub. I'm on my 3rd tube with no intentions of switching.

I really loved the way this made my skin feel especially when I used the Mint Julep Masque. I never had acne prone skin when I was a teenager but now that I'm in my mid-20's I've been getting acne. This really helped minimize the acne.

I used to own this back in high school... but remember it being mintier? That could be just me, also the packaging is different so I don't know if they changed the formula. Well, I remember my friend commenting one day on how smoothe and radiant my skin was becoming after I began using this. Now years later I bump across the reviews here on MUA and asked myself why the heck I stopped purchasing such an effective yet cheap product... I think I remember now after some weeks of using this daily, this turns my skin blotchy... isn't an exfoliator supposed to do the opposite? Overall it's an "ehh" quality exfoliator. Decleor's phyto peel on the other hand is my HG... truly spectacular, see my review for that if interested.

EDIT: This deserves more merit than I gave it. Its very gentle, and it's one of the few cleansers that doesn't leave a film behind or break me out.

this is the best scrub out there. i've tried so many different ones, including high end brands, and this one is the best. the little granules are the perfect size. it doesn't dry out my skin, either. it isn't too weak, but at the same time, it does exfoliate all the dead skin.
i wouldn't buy this again though, only because i use a face towel now. i find that small face towels to work better than any scrub out there, including this. =)

I really like this scrub a lot. It's similar to Dermalogica's Skin Prep Scrub, but a lot more, at a fraction of the cost. This is really more of a polish since that's how fine the bits of shell are, and how gentle it is on your skin. It's gentle enough to use everyday. I've been using a Retinol product on my skin at night, and I wash with this in the morning, before putting on my moisturizer/sunscreen. You still need another cleanser as you can't use this around your eyes, but a woderful inexpensive scrub, that will last a few months. Less than $3 at Sally's. Will repurchase!

Huge rave for this stuff! I've tried all kinds of scrubs, low end to high end, and this is by far the best. My skin usually has some visible flakes when I apply makeup. This scrub completely takes care of the flakes! Grains seem to be an excellent size and are abraisive enough to do the job without scraping. That said, use a light tough b/c natural exfoliants (walnut in this case) can be damaging if you scrub too hard. Overall- love the smell, love the product. . .Will continue to repurchace!

This is my HG facial scrub. The particle size is PERFECT. Not too grainy like St. Ives, but enough to definitely scrub flakes away. I use Retin-A nightly, and use this in the morning before makeup. My skin is perfect. And it doesn't even smell minty like the masque- It actually reminds me of some of Aveda's product scents.
