i have used this for a long time. the pros to me are: can be applied over wet polish for faster drying; very shiny finish; reasonable price. i would have given this a five but i recently discovered essie's good to go and like it much better as a top coat, but i will continue to have sh megashine in my collection because i esp. love how it perks up a pedicure - i can apply it every few days and my toenails look great for a couple weeks, even in summer. funny i didn't even realize that the silver bottle bugged me until reading the review below, but, yeah - can't tell how much is left.

A decent top coat. It does add a lot of shine, but only for two to three days; and protects against chips moderately well, about five days chip-free (and at day three I applied another layer of top coat). The formula is thick and takes a little longer to dry that most top coats, but it is not unmanageably goopy. It strips off some of the colored polish. I do not recommend using this alone or only over a base coat for clear nails, it peels off for some weird reason. This was nothing fantastic and I’ll pick a different top coat next time.

I really hate this stuff. It does give a nice shine (hence the 2 lippies), but it also pools in the "gutters" on the edges of my nails and makes a weird white mess there . . . and then lifts at the edges and peels off. That's plenty to make me toss it, but while I'm complaiining--also not in love with the opaque silver bottle that makes it very difficult to tell how much is left. I've used other Sally Hansen top coats that were great, so I don't know what they did wrong with this one. Ick.

I have tried using this several ways before I just had to give up on it. I have used it on bare nails, over polish, and just over a base. No matter what I did, it peeled off within one day! It totally reminded me of those play nail polishes I used to have as a child because it just peeled off in one complete piece.

The only reason I gave this product 1 star instead of 0 is because it does produce a very nice super shiny shine. I don't have any problem with the packaging or the price. But if it peels off within a day what is the point?

I have been using this product for years and will continue to do so. The big attraction for me is the quick drying. This, to me, is comparable to Poshe Top Coat only much, much less expensive. I would not be surprised to learn that Poshe makes this for Sally Hansen, to tell you the truth. It is THAT good. Lovely shine, super-fast drying time, lasting manicure. What more could you ask for? This is my HG topcoat.

This is my HG topcoat! I've been using it for years and love the protection and shine it provides now just as much as I did when I first tried it (a rarity among my cosmetics, I assure you). I usually use this on my toes -- I first apply Essie's ridge-filling basecoat, use an OPI or Essie color (2 coats), and then top it off w/Mega Shine. It keeps my color fresh and chip-free for 2-3 weeks easily, even during the summer months when my piggies are most exposed! I like that it dries quickly and helps make at-home pedicures look like they were done at a salon. I know I sound like a crazy lady from an infomercial in how I rave about this product, but it truly is great. I don't know why the mags don't promote it more -- I'll continue buying this as long as Sally Hansen continues making it!

This is a great top coat. I have had it on my toes for over a month and my pedicure still looks great - and I have even been to the beach! It also dries really fast which is great.

It removes easily with regular non-accetone polish remover. This is the top coat I will keep going back to. (I have not tried a manicure with this top coat yet)

This is very good. I will try another one from Sally Hansen just for a change, but I would definitely come back to this. Great shine.

By far the best top coat I've ever used. I've been buying and using this over and over for at least 5 years, and I will never be without it. It dries super fast, even drying the coats of nail color underneath, and the shine is incredible. Definitely a bargain at the price.

I was very disappointed with this product, it made my nail polish peel after 3 days, the whole lot would peel off I one big chunk. I've given it 2 lippes as it did make my nails very shiny.

I don't know if this is the one that can be used as a base AND top coat or just the mega shine top-coat; I used BOTH and my opinion is the same:

WHAT A PIECE OF CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used each with a BRAND NEW MANICURE at a salon; the woman who does my nails on a regular basis. It's a Saturday afternoon. I used a sheer pink as my color. The NEXT MORNING I'm reading the paper; MY NAIL POLISH TURNED BLACK. And it did NOT wash off. I tried everything. Went back to my manicurist. Apparently, these 2 products have a chemical that reacts to newspaper print; it absorbs the black ink INTO the product, hence the black nails. Never, ever again. And yes, I emailed Sally Hansen CS and told them what happened. They sent me a coupon for $10 off SH products. Right, like I'll EVER try their stuff again. UGH! What a waste of my money (twice) for product AND for 2 manicures that ended up lasting not even 24 hours.

My HG topcoat, the ONLY one that I use. For the record, I have long natural nails with an acrylic overlay and have *never* had an issue with this product. I was a little confused by some of the other reviews here, thought maybe we were talking about a different product, as far as staying power goes. My manicure and pedicure look fantastic forever with this product. I would caution people about gooping up the nails with it around the sides, though. Make sure you haven't done this because, once the product dries, it becomes easy to just peel. Applied properly, however, you can't beat this stuff with a stick. I also don't have to apply it every few days, it's good until I remove it (sometimes 2 weeks later!). I gave the packaging quality a low rating because I agree with others here that a "mirror finish" bottle, while a novel idea, is impractical. A see-through bottle would be much nicer.

Love this stuff. My fingernails are usually chipped the next day, but this stuff extended the life to about 3-4 days before chips appeared. Probably would last longer if reapplied the topcoat every couple of days. A must-have for me.

Good product, but to me, this shine top coat is not better than some of the cheaper brands. This does make my nails shine though, which I love and probably would repurchase if it is ever on sale.

this is the absolute worst...only buy this if you never come into contact with water, wear rubber gloves 24/7or really enjoy peeling off your manicure in one whole piece...i think this lasted for a total of 6 hours on me...when i redid it with and OPI base coat, i got another 2 hours out of it...HORRIBLE...going right into the garbage...

This is worth getting if you're looking to have shiny nails for about 24 hours and enjoy watching clear nail polish peel from your nails & make it look like your fingers are shedding.
I'm glad I've only ever tried this on bare nails and not over a good polish job, as this has no staying power and flakes off embarassingly easily.. especially after a shower.
I've never been one to just throw away products, but I still have 3/4 of the bottle left and it's bound for the trash.
Don't waste your money!

This is the only top coat I've ever used, so I don't have that much experience with others. I love this for the shine that it delivers to polished nails. It goes on easily. But I did find that the older the bottle gets, the thicker it becomes so it's better to toss and get another one. It does deliver a mega glossy shine but does tend to make my polish peel after a day or 2. For it's defense, I do subject my hands to obsessive handwashing which probably has something to do with this peeling. However, when I use it on my toes, it stays true and shiny for weeks, go figure. The other thing I notice is, every now and then I'll get this little chunk of silver that comes out on my nails with this. I know it's not a fluke because it's happened with every bottle I've ever bought. I probably should shake the bottle better but it's worth mentioning. It's a great product for the price and definitely worth checking out.

I've been using Mega Shine for years. I had a bottle for over 2 years and it was still good up until the very end when it got too thick. I finally bought a new bottle, which should last me another 2 years since I don't polish my nails (and even then, just my toenails) often. It dries polish super fast and leaves a great shine. I've noticed that my polish wears longer and stays shinier with a coat of Mega Shine, however, it does NOT last 10 days as promised. If anything, applying a coat of Mega Shine every day or two (as suggested) makes my polish peel off but if I don't reapply then my polish lasts longer--it just chips after 4-5 days. Mind you I do dishes and clean every single day and never wear gloves so YMMV if you're careful about protecting your nails from moisture. For a super hard, glassy topcoat, nothing beats Seche Viche though.

This works AMAZINGLY well on my toes!!!!! Polish stays for ever when I use it after painting my toes. As for my fingers, i agree it does kinda peel but it still dries my polish faster than any top coat i've tried

Great top coat. Goes right over wet nails and dries quickly. Shine lasts and lasts. Very cheap and easy to find. Better than salon brands like Seche Vite and OPI, which get stringy!! Love this stuff.
