When I was selecting lipsticks to B2M for at my counter, I told the SA that I wanted something with a little purple in it. We tried Up the Amp and I decided that it was way too bold for my liking, and so this was the next one she picked up. I'm generally an indecisive person when it comes to makeup, but as soon as I tested this on my lips, I fell in love. The way it glided on so smoothly, and the way I could build up the color to my liking really made me a fan of the satin formula and the color. When I asked the SA what I could do with my eyes, she said I could do a purple and pink look, or do something minimal like a winged liner and have my lips be the focus. This isn't a color I would wear to mass or a super formal event, but it's definitely one I would wear casually for a night out and maybe for those days when I'm feeling extra spunky. Here are two photos (different lighting) w/ Rebel and Pop Mode lipglass. NC50 for reference.

ohh its too late i read the reviews now and have again fallen in love with this colour, this was my FIRST MAC lipstick, i bought this only because my hubby like bright colours on me, lips or nails or dresses....
i was little hesitant first but when i tried this at mac counter , i went outside in sunlight to see the actual colour and at first what came into my mind was - i will have to wear this only in night out ... it is actually a night colour but i dont think u would find better colour then this...
i actually wore it with my Mustard colour punjabi suit and i looked gorgeous ( my hubby said so ...hahahaha) ... one must have this colour

ZOUNDS! After years of being away from MAC lipsticks, lately I've been ordering some from Mac's website after much studying of their photos & descriptions (& completely forgetting to check 1st @ MUA!). A few of the colours have turned out to be absolutely, hands-down, remarkably beautiful -- indeed, even startlingly beautiful. And "Rebel" certainly is one: it just arrived today & is nothing short of RAVISHING! Against my ultra-white "moon-tan" skin & green eyes & dark-dark hair, this Nothing-Short-Of-Remarkable colour isn't like the photo shown here on this MUA page, however: on me it's far less hot pink-ish & much more of a rich yet soft magenta mixed both w/ berries & w/ the unique red/purple note only found in hothouse flowers & the jewel-like ruby beets of yore. (Indeed: note the MUA'er below who left Mac armed w/ "Rebel" AND -- yes indeedy -- "Beet" lipliner!). As soon as I'd put it on, gazing into the mirror my very 1st thought was that "REBEL" IS 100% ROMANTIC & 100% GLAMOROUS -- in fact, awesomely so! And every time I peek back into the looking-glass, those same words come right back to mind again instantly. PLUS, in addition to making one feel & look glamorous & romantic (as if that weren't enough!), here's 1 more of several additional payoffs in this Must-Have item -- & the following's just not encountered with the majority of lipsticks & glosses, even your "very nice" ones! To wit: "Rebel" is SO beautiful it makes you smile -- both inside & out -- just to be wearing it! Ah, rare indeed... and since we all know how true it is that when a woman feels beautiful she IS beautiful, all these qualities add up to make "Rebel" one POWERHOUSE lip colour for a mere $14.00 ! // Equally worthy of note is that (A) "Rebel" works PERFECTLY w/ many colours of clothing -- e.g., not just the obvious blacks & whites, but also those in the purple & green families, both of which can be hard to find the SUPERBLY-right lip colour for. (B) NOTE THAT IT'S A BEAUTIFUL MATCH WITH MAC's NEW "Love Thing" & "Gentle" mineralized blushes, as well as with Mac's "Summer Rose" Beauty Powder Blush from the even newer 'Rose Romance' collection.// -- And YES, wait -- there's MORE! E.g., you know all those shades of berry, magenta & fuschia that show up iEVERY season nowadays, in everything from T-shirts & cashmere sweaters to dresses, coats, & etc.? For years it's been a constant challenge to come up w/ the truly Perfect Lipstick that'll pair up with those glorious (& very particular) hues AND really stand up on its own, too -- until (yep!) "Rebel" !! // Last, & in fact perhaps Above All: "Rebel" is what my beloved Grandpapa would've called "a VERY French colour": i.e., a colour so very romantic, so very elegant & striking, and so "always Just Right" that one would expect to see it regularly on the confident lips of those stylish molls from Gaul, whether decked out in '40s glamour-togs & peep-toes or 21st C. punkish Lagenlook. For "Rebel" can take you anywhere, from Board Room to Blue Fish -- & really, everywhere in between! This is an all-season, all-hours colour: don't let anyone put you off the scent by pegging "Rebel" down to just Winter &/or Evening only. In fact it's so versatile & so unique I'm buying my back-up NOW! -- i.e., before Mac can possibly remove it from circulation as it seems to do w/ too many of its best and most singular lipsticks beloved by so many. "Rebel" is a lipstick to own several of, in fact, for -- as other MUA'ers point out -- I too have never-EVER found anything even CLOSE to this colour ANYWHERE else: not even amongst Guerlain's latest $45 lip colours!

I have loved this lipstick for years. I dont wear it often, it's definately bold...it's one I mainly wear if I am going out. If your eyes are done right, (soft) put this on and you will look great! BTW... the example pic of this.. on me this looks completely different.. the pic looks more like a "fuschia", Rebel on me is darker, more berry/purple.

I went into my local Macy's actually looking to try a pink, came away with Rebel lipstick with Beet lipliner! The color looks magenta on me and I love it!! She used Beet because I have a natural line around my lips that's kind of dark and the Beet offset it and looks fantastic with Rebel. Love the color, the creaminess of it, deposits lots of color (stained my lips when I took it off that evening and woke up with some color still) doesn't look heavy but the color payoff is amazing!

One of my favorite lipsticks when I'm wanting to feel very glamorous! This is a very deep berry-almost-magenta lippie. This is a cream/satin finish, which is perfect, because a color like this doesn't need shimmer! I can see this working on just about anyone, because while it's dramatic, it's not "gothic". You definitely need confidence to wear this one, because heads WILL turn *wink, wink*. Great paired a soft silver or grey shadow on eyes and a soft plum blush. Absolutely stunning!

I had always been interested in trying this lipstick, but was too scared! In the tube, it is a shockingly purple color. haha. At least I think so. I am very fair with red hair, so I always thought it would look crappy on me. But after reading all the reviews on here about how people loved it so-- I decided to give it a try when I came across it at a CCO. And boy am I glad I did! It looks NOTHING on me like how it does in the tube! Looking at pictures of people wearing it on here helps too... it looks just like that. Almost like a berry shade... sort of reddish-- but not quite. It's hard for me to describe. But it reminds me of berries. I love it! My boyfriend liked it on me too, which is a plus-- since he usually hates stuff on me. ha! I thought he would think it was too dark. He said it was dark, but it looked good. Girls, you gotta try this!

I agree with the reviewer who wrote that this lipstick is like old Hollywood glam lips with some punk thrown in, very pretty and unique it's a deep but not too dark purpleish/pink with the slightest hint of red maybe. I wish people would stop saying "this lipstick isn't too dark to be goth" goth can be sexy too, say it's very dark not "goth" geezus. Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if MAC discontinued this shade it's one of a kind just like Carnal and many other lipsticks were.

I have a light eastern-european skin tone that tans easily in the summer, but looks washed-out in the winter, like now. This color definitely adds some vavoom to my face. Pinks and reds just don't hack it with my coloring this season. This is a little purple, without being too drastic like the MAC pro-longwear lip color All Nighter, which is better for night-time occasions. If you like that color, this is very similar, but is a more mellow, cremier version that lasts ALMOST as long.

I love, love, love this lipstick. I am a NC50 and this looks so beautiful on me with little VI lusterglass layered over it. I think it would look good on almost anyone but if you are a brown girl ( ie black, latina, asian, indian) it will look especially good on. It is a must try. I will buy this lipstick again when I run out.

Gorgeous, deep, bright purple-pink. Not Barbie-shocking, not scary-goth, not 90s...just the perfect sophisticated shade that looks stunning on cool-toned faces. Can't say if it would suit warmer tones, as it is blue-based, but would probably also look great on neutrals.
Love the Satin texture, almost not quite matte. Love that it's a creme, no shimmer. Just the colour I've been searching for everywhere and only MAC makes. Perfect.

i got this today through back2mac, and i must say, this is a fantastic colour. i love deep dramatic reds so this is a refreshing but equally dramatic change. beautiful. i'm NW20 with black hair and i've never seen a colour that flatters me so much. I got more pink tones than purple, i also tried 'fun n sexy' from the fafi collection on top. FAB COMBO!!

Definitely the kind of lipstick you wear when you want to make a statement. The color is matte enough so that, combined with the dark aspect, it's like taking old-school Hollywood glamor and making it just a little bit punk.

The color is fun without being bubble-gum sweet, and with an edge without being goth.

I have no idea how it looks on darker skin tones, but if you're Casper the Ghost (like me), I find it really adds an instant shock of life to your pale complexion.

Damn, this is SUCH a pretty, fun color! Really, really retro in the best way possible. Also, very versatile and buildable. When I put a thin layer on, it's a pretty, rosy pink. A little more, and it's a more dramatic plum. When I apply it "properly", it's a bright plummy pink. Very striking, and just really really fun. It looks extra pretty with Chanel's glossimer in Sideral. I would definitely buy this again as I've never seen a color like this anywhere else.

Edit: I don't think I'd repurchase after all. For one thing, I so rarely wear this colour that by the time it needs to be replaced, we'll have entered a new Ice Age.

Ever since I bought the original MAC Viva Glam l/s (a deep red), I've been obsessed with doing light eyes and dramatic lips. This is a big deal since I'm the girl who only wears clear lip balm. Anyways, a friend recommended Rebel as a great, dramatic shade. She was so right! The SA was nervous about me getting it, but once I tried it on he agreed that it was gorgeous. It's a dep fuschia/magenta shade that leaves a bright pink stain for hours. It is a bit drying so use a lip balm underneath. It looks great during all seasons!
