I really wish the ratings came in increments of .5 because I think this cleanser truly deserves about a 3.5, but oh well. I went from adoring this, to it just being a blah product in the time frame of a couple months. Let me explain: I picked this up in pure excitment after I read some gushing MUAers singing its praises. I religously washed my face and my acne was begining to clear (HALLELUAH) until that one faithful night.....
I came home extremly exhausted from a long day and plopped down on the couch to watch some tv, in full make-up mind you. And of course! Lo and behold--i fell asleep. I woke up the next morning to find that i had aquired THE WORST breakout Ive ever had. Were talking, pimples in places theve never been on me before. ( My skin usually stays modertly clear as long as I keep up a strict routine, and if I dont---theres Revenge!) well I tried about a month with this cleanser to regain norm, and it just couldn't get me back to where I was. It just plateued, I supose. So sadly I had to let it go, even though it did such an amazing job in the begining. So sad...

Oh, and btw-----I wouldnt recomend this for sensitive skin. My best friend, Katie tried this and she was crying because it hurt her skin so bad. (And her skins only mildly sensititve...)

I do not have sensitive skin at all, so I can usually get away with trying all different face products. However, this face wash broke me out. :/ Never will I try it again!

as far as controlling acne this was ok.. i didn't see a lot of improvement but on the plus side it didn't get worse!! what i did love about it (the reason i would repurchase) is because i have combo skin and i used to constantly have to powder or blot to control oil... i saw a significant decrease in the amount of oil on my face... i hardly ever have to blot anymore!! and this wasn't too irritating on my sensitive skin, especially after using it a few weeks! i'd reccommend depending on your skin!

After reading a recommendation on this product in ELLE magazine I decided to give it a try.I broke out A LOT more and I already suffered from acne.I think the reason is because it doesn't remove make-up and my pores were clogged.I used a toner and on the cotton ball there was STILL residue I used like 3 to FINALLY remove all of it!!! I wasted money on this.Never buy again

I've strictly limited myself to Cetaphil and/or Aveeno face washes since the 6th grade because of my eczema. However, once I started 10th grade, I began to break out. Every acne face wash that I have ever used flares up my eczema. This face wash is the ONLY acne controlling wash that has actually reduced the irritation on my face. No rashes. No blemishes. No irritation. I recommend it to anybody with combination skin.

I have been pleasantly surprised by this product! First of all, let me give you a little bit of history on my skin. I had fairly clear skin through high school, which turned into an oily, acne prone (with some cystic acne) catastrophe come my second year of college. I have been going to a derm for almost a year now and am using a combination of Duac gel and a retinoid at night, with some success. However, I had a lot of problems with cleansers. Since buckling down and using topicals on my skin, I have tried a slew of different cleansers, with everything from "antibacterial" claims, to benzoyl peroxide, to salicylic acid, to green tea and "calming" yada-yada. Everything was either too harsh in tandem with my prescriptions or not enough, resulting in another oily mess and more breakouts.

This cleanser really turned that around for me. I wash my face slightly with warm water, use 2 pumps of the foam, rub it in a bit, and brush my teeth while I let it sit for a minute or two. Then, I wash it off with warm water, and splash a bit of cooler water on my face to help close my pores.

I am not claiming that this is a miracle product, but it certainly works well for me, and I have finally filled the gaping cleanser hole in my regimen!

EDIT: I have been using this for about 9 months now and I adore it! My skin is soft, less oily, less red, and I have NO PIMPLES. This is amazing. It wasn't just the cleanser that made my skin this way (still applying retinoid, Juice Beauty Green Apple Antioxidant Serum, and sunscreen daily), but this cleanser is an integral part of the combo. I would recommend this cleanser to anyone who has issues with oil, acne, and/or redness.

So this does pretty much nothing for breakouts, but I wouldn't ever count on a cleanser to do that anyway. This does smell wonderful and removes makeup so fast without drying out my skin. It doesn't seem to last me very long though. I go through about a bottle a month (washing twice a day), whereas I can make a bottle of Clinique foaming cleanser or Sheseido brightening cleanser last forever since they take nothing to make a lather. Anyway, this is super cheap and takes off the makeup but don't expect anything for your breakouts.

this is really gentle and doesn't dry you out. i love the foam since it doesn't take much to work and washes off really easily. has a light-ish cucumber scent, which may be overwhelming for some people. can't really tell about the ability for prevent breakouts since i don't use this constantly and since i haven't found any wash or medication to work in that aspect anyway. but it certainly doesn't make it worse. and i don't know about makeup removal since i always remove that with a towelette and then wash with a cleanser to get off the film from the towelette. plus side, it doesn't add to the irritation. used best with the 3 in 1 lotion/medicine for softness.

Edit: I find that this is the least drying of the face washes that I've used. Yes I'm still flaky, but my whole face isn't peeling. The pump gets stuck and stops foaming about halfway through the bottle. That may also be because we have minerals in our water and it might've gotten in the mechanisms. I end up having to shake the bottle 1st to get foam to come out. When it is foamy, it easily removes oils. When it's still syrupy, it doesn't work so well and it's hard to wash off. Doesn't actually prevent acne, but I don't think it's causing it.

I have been using this product for about five months. I bought it on a trip and my skin was freaking out, so I went in a rinky-dink grocery store to see what they had. They didn’t have much but they did have this! So I gave it a try and my skin cleared slowly, I’m not sure if it helped with the existing breakout at all. But I kept using it anyway because it feels nice and its not all drying. I will say that in five months since the nasty breakout that spurred the purchase I haven’t had one monstrous zit or noteworthy breakout. I used to get at least one nasty blemish that would last weeks every couple of months but not anymore! I would also like to add that I bought this in June, even using it twice daily there is still some left. I will defiantly repurchase!

the texture and feel of this was nice but i bought it to treat acne, which it failed to do. i did not see any results in the positive or negative (except of course, the average appearence of pimples every other day)

I absolutely adore buying new face wash and have been known to own up to 5 or 6 cleansers at the same time, using each regularly. So when I saw the commercial for the acne stress control line, I wanted it immediately. I have to say, for a rather watery foam cleanser, this cleans quite nicely. Sometimes I will use it twice depending on how much makeup I have on, and even then it doesn't dry out my already parched skin. But I do agree with some of the other girls here in that you have to use several pumps of this stuff, especially when taking off makeup. It has a nice scent and is surprisingly gentle for an acne wash, but I don't think it does much for actually clearing acne. I don't see a difference in my skin when I use this or just olive oil and a washcloth. But like I said, I love face wash so I'll use it anyway. I won't repurchase because I prefer a wash that clings to my face more, and I need one that is moisturizing for my dry skin. But this is a pretty good product.

It works pretty well on acne, but its not as good as the original Neut. Oil-Free Acne wash. Does have gentler ingredients, and is less irritating, but this comes at the expense of not being quite as effective. The foam is pretty dilute, I have to use a lot of it compared with liquid cleansers. Overall, its a good alternative if the orginal Oil-Free Acne Wash was just too irritating, but I am looking forward to using this up and going back to the original.

I started using this because I really loved the moisturizer from this line. I figured this couldnt hurt.
I feel that maybe because this is a foam, it doesnt cleanse as much. Even after using a toner there is a lot of dirt and debris on the cotton pad. I dont even use foundation! I'm very disappointed, and feel like I have just wasted my money.
Sorry Neutrogena!

I bought it initially when my skin was rebelling from a long term affair with Shiseido's Pureness Foaming Cleanser, and it tamed the breakouts for a couple months. By summer, it was useless -- either my skin had stopped getting along with it or it just wasn't strong enough for hot and humid weather. The Power Scrub for this line seems to work a lot better so far... I prefer something with exfoliation.

I didn't really like this. It didn't help or make anything worse. It's kind of like washing your face with dyed water. There's a green dye in it that kind of freaks me out whenever I wash my face with it. It's like I think it's going to clog my pores or make my skin worse. Maybe even dye my skin green? xD It wasn't bad, but it wasn't that good either. The acne stress control scrub was a lot better.

Packaging is clean. The wash is the first ever acne wash to not dry out my skin while effectively drying pimples. I am 16 and get pimples from oily skin in the T-zone and before and after my period. This helps to dry pimples but doesn't prevent more from coming in. It actually makes your skin really dependent so if I don't use this wash, my skin actually gets worse.

Right, so its great. Take it from me, I went from puberty/adolescent/typical acne to adult acne...lucky me. If you're oily/acne...just try it. Let's face it, no cleanser will ever "make the acne stop". It does help reduce the size/swelling and definitely helps control the oil. For anyone who has visited the dermatologist, the acne may seem to "worsen" before it improves upon using any new product. I know what its like to want to give up after using something for 2 weeks without improvement. Just use the entire bottle before reviewing. I've tried so many things, and I am sticking with this one. It cleans and treats without becoming too drying. I'd even invest in stock with Neutrogena over this Microclear deal. Shew! Maybe I should!

I don't like it (said in a whiny voice.) I usually don't touch Neutrogena with a ten foot pole, but wanted to give the brand in general another chance. I love the feeling of the cleanser and I like the smell, but I do not like the 9....YES 9!!!!!!...pimples that I got two days after using the cleanser and scrub. This was not purging. I examine my face with a 9x magnification mirror, so I know what is clogged and not. This was comedogenic!!! Has to be.

I've dealt with iffy skin all summer long. Too much heat, sun, sweat, grime, and dirt. I've been trying new cleansers in the last few months, and stumbled across this. I've been using it for about two weeks. The first week I used it irregularly...until I figured out it was doing wonders for my skin...clearing up any little spots really nicely. This second week, I've been using it religiously, and my skin is completely clear. It's even prevented my usual hormonal bumps from forming. Now I'm almost 50, and my skin is combo, and unless I'm sweating under a helmet in 90-degree heat, it's pretty calm. I had nothing in my arsenal to combat my freaked-out skin. This cleanser, paired with the Stress Control Gel, has been a lifesaver. Never would I have figured I'd find such useful products as I have lately with Neutrogena. What's even better about these Stress Control Products (what the heck does stress control have to do with anything? What a strange name!) is that they're not drying...especially the gel. Usually, SA treatments are very drying, but Neutrogena has developed a skin-friendly gem here that will make your face clear, calm, and soft. I will use these products until cool weather sets in, and I no longer need them. Great, great products!
