SO saw an infomercial for this while I was sleeping and in the morning he said, "I saw a commercial for makeup I think you would like. It is made with minerals!!" lol
Actually, at the time, my acne was out of control. It was making me very depressed about my image. My BFF gave me the starter kit as a gift and it, in conjunction with my other products, has really made my skin MUCH better. It has improved to the point that, When I apply the powder foundation, you cannot even tell that I have a few pimples and scars underneath.
I have to say, it does make my face extremely itchy if I sweat, though. And it takes a bit of practice to get the right application. I did not like the product at first. I wasn't putting it on properly. There was either no coverage or a cakey look to it. Now I use the concealer brush on trouble spots and finish off with blush and mineral veil. Stays looking good all day long.

I love the coverage of Bare Escentuals mineral foundation in Light. This shade is an exact match for me, as I am half caucasian and half hispanic. My skin tone is lighter than medium, and I have slight yellow/gold undertones (emphasis on 'slight'). Any blemish/breakout issues I may have had are resolved because this foundation is gentle and healing to my skin. I get complete and flawless coverage and it has a smooth and blended appearance; it most definitly melted into my skin. There is a reason why this is THE #1 mineral foundation and I don't plan on switching to any other brand!

I have been using this product for a few years now I thought I liked it but now I feel like it is the problem. Before I used this I had nice skin with only a few blemishes here and there now I have acne everyday.I never thought it could be from the makeup untill I started researching it on the internet and found out that allot of other women have had the same problem. So now I am in search of a new makeup. Also this makeup makes me itch when I get hot.

This product is really horrible. I went to Planet Beauty out of desperation to cover up this bad zit before I went to my Senior pictures. The color is just completely inaccurate and is too yellow or too dark, there's no in between that can camoflauge with your skin tone.... well, perhaps if you're lucky. Anyway, I would not recommend the product because it gives that nasty texture to your skin where the powder just sort of "sits" on top and looks very fake. I'm not exactly a big fan of wearing face makeup as it just feels gross on my skin and doesn't let my pores breath :/

I hate bare minerals foundation. I literally had to go back to sephora 4 times to get the right shade and still didn't. I'm asian, so I have really golden undertones. Everything I tried was either too dark, too light, ashy, pinkish...meaning it didn't match. I settled for golden medium. I wore it the first day and I liked it. But it broke me out! At first I didn't know what it was but then I realized that it was BE b/c it was making me break out in places that I had never broken out before. And when it got out it made me itch like crazy. Even after watching my face it still made my face itch. My boyfriend, who went to sleep later than I do, told me that he saw me scratching my face in my sleep for a long time. And I had never done this before. I'm still broken out from it. If you have any dry spots it really shows! And it doesn't go on evenly! I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. I do know however that it works wonders for others but if you have acne prone skin or combo skin don't get it. The only good thing is that at first it feels a lot better than liquid. nice and light. but it has many side-effects!

I have a medium skintone and had tried this foundation a number of years ago. I got a chance to try it as it came along with an infomercial kit that I had purchased. Well, this color makes my face look pasty and considerably yellower in tone. Also, the amount of shimmer in BM foundatio is simply too much. You can never get a never truly natural look to one's face as a result.

i live in Las Vegas- it's not very humid, but 110+ degree heat doesn't leave your skin much of a choice but to sweat anyway. for reference, i am half Asian and half white so my skin is fair but kinda... brownish olive yellow. weird, i know. i also have acne-prone skin that was pretty clear but unfortunately has been acting up lately. it's also quasi-sensitive- not crazy sensitive, but a smidgeon too much mistreatment and it rebels. i was using Revlon Colorstay for Oily skin (which i love) and my back-up was MAC Studio Fix NC30, but they were just too heavy for the summer.

so i decided to cave in and try BE. i've used Everyday Minerals, and i liked it but they had no color to match my skin (at least, at the time). so far i absolutely love it- it doesn't look chalky, and it doesn't dry my skin out. can't say i have a good color match either- i seem to be right inbetween two. it doesn't feel heavy though. i was afraid that how everyone said you look "glowy" would make me look like an oil-slick. WRONG. i suprisingly do not look like an oil-slick half a day in (which is weird, because this seemed to be something i couldn't get away from as of late). it looks very natural and glowy, and i can't stop looking at myself in the mirror! (it should also be noted that i do use the BE Skin Rever Upper as instructed under my moisturizer, and i use Smashbox Primer over my moisturizer). also, it hasn't seemed to upset my skin in the least- in fact, the break out i just experienced is going away. my skin doesn't feel itchy, or tingly. my only quarrels are with the packaging, but that can easily be overlooked. i'll update in a month to see if i still like this.

8/11/08 a month later, and i still like it. i'm going to continue to use it all summer, but we'll see how it fairs in the colder/drier months.

edit: TOTALLY did not hold up in the colder/drier months. it irritated my skin beyond belief.

I started using Bare Minerals after having stopped wearing foundation (liquid) altogether for about 8 years. It was given to me as a gift, but I had no interest in using it whatsoever. One day, I decided to experiment with it since a big event in my life was coming up. To my surprise, I fell in love with this product! It looks very natural on my skin, but yet covers redness and little imperfections here and there. I use Boscia's oil-free daily hydration underneath, and it's perfect. At first, it looks a bit powdery, but after about 30 minutes, everything is blended well on my skin and my skin looks great! I'm so glad I found this foundation, because I had vowed never to use liquid foundation on my skin due to its unnatural look and pore-clogging qualities. Bare Minerals seems to be good for my skin, which I love, and it makes my skin look great, too!

I was exposed to Bare Escentuals....oh.... 4 years ago... and I bought the informercial kit. Unfortunately I couldn't get enough coverage from this.... even though I bought ALL the bisque, brushes that was recommended... the coverage just didn't work for me. The other thing I wasn't sure about is, normally when I use the BE foundation -- it'll look good for 1-2 weeks, but after that my skin starts to "accumulate" the products and I get these weird tiny "white spots" on my skin ? ( I WASH my face and remove all makeup everyday and I religious clean all the brushes --so it's not my hygiene that's causing this accumulation) I stopped using it for a while...and my skin will go back to normal...so I'm not quite sure what's going on there.... but because of it, I have stopped using the BE foundations, but I do still like the eyeshadows :)

I'm a make up novice. Aside from mascara, eye brow liners and gloss, I'm clueless - in all aspects. From application to choosing shades. I just don't KNOW! The starter kit fromt his line is AWESOME, look it up on sephora or their website for package details, but you get EVERYTHING you need! Having no experience of ever using foundation, make up brushes, blush, etc the DVD it came with was extremely helpful in applying the products. The foundation is SO NATURAL and you can BARELY tell you even have it on. All depends on personal preference, but I use very little and that works fine with me. Can be a little messy since it's in powder form, use over the sink or paper towl. I highly recoomend for beginners and those opting for the most "natural" look possible. I have acne prone skin but cannot correctly review this product for that since I'm not a daily wear-er and only use for special occasions, maybe once a month if that much. But I do not think it has contributed to any breakouts. I'm sure you can find other foundations which are cheaper, but I thought the price was extremely reasonable, especially since they are one of the, if not THE, top brand of its kind.

Update: Feb 2011

Don't use this anymore, but would go back to it if I decided to wear foundation again :)

I love this product. It's rather easy to apply, and even with a less than nice brush you can get fantastic results. It gave me good coverage (I looked poreless even without putting on the veil) and made my blush glide on smoothly too. I love that it also has staying power - sure you might have to blot a little at the T-zone in the afternoon, but when I went biking after having put on my makeup, to my surprise, my makeup was still intact.

My only issue with this brand is the price. Although it makes you save money in the long run, it's still hard to shell out so much in one instant.

I really wanted to like this product, b/c I like powder foundations so much better than liquid, but this stuff is just TOO DARN MESSY!! The whole swirl, tap, buff thing just gets powder everywhere. Maybe if I had a huge bathroom w/lots of bare counter space, I wouldn't mind the mess, but as it is, this gets over all my stuff. Also, I think it's a bad sign that all the SAs in the BE store frighten me with the way their faces are made up: you can TELL they're wearing powder- you can see their pores, they're sparkling a little (*not* glowing) and there's a cakey effect. Too bad.

I really, really like this foundation.

I hate, hate, HATE liquid foundation (makeup on your hands, having to wash it off, that heavy makeup feeling, having your face turn into an oil slick--YUCK.)

This is the perfect solution for oily skin. It's light, you don't need a lot to get good coverage, it doesn't shine up on me nearly as often. You can even sleep in the stuff and it won't clog up your pores.

This can look cakey if you use too much, but the thing is, you really don't have to. It's great to even put powder bronzer or blush over. Still doesn't give you that cakey look (because a little bit goes a long way in the first place.)

I dab my finger on some of the powder, and it works well as a concealer, too.

It takes me only about 30 seconds to brush on. Saves a lot of time!

What I don't like, is that like most loose powders, lots of this powder goes everywhere. It can make a mess, so put a towel down in your lap or on the dresser. What also stinks about that is you waste a lot of the product.

For that reason, I switched to Clinique Almost Powder makeup. It's a nice, mineral makeup with the same effect, but in a nice, non-messy compact. You put it on like regular compact powder, and you use / waste less of it than you would with a brush.

When that's not available- I would still buy this again if I had to fall back on it.

If you have problem skin like I do, beware...it may get worse. I tried bare minerals after I saw the infomercial. I have used it intermittently over the last year or so.. Coverage is not that great unless you apply several "layers" of product. I watched the instructional DVD, went to the counter at my local bare escentuals boutique, had esthetician apply it, nothing helped. My makeup looked cakey, flaky, and patchy after just a few hours. My skin looks older..fine lines are more prominent. Pores are more visible. Sometimes my skin burns upon application. Breakouts take longer to heal when I use bare minerals than if I use my Mary Kay or Clinique liquid foundation. It rubs off easily, is messy to apply, and does not travel well.

I do like the luminous dewy appearance to the skin, so I will shop for a product that will give me this effect, but with better coverage on just 1 application not layers and layers of product. Would recommend only if you have GREAT skin to start with.

So far this is the best foundation for me. It is so light and natural looking and covers almost all of the flaws. I find it works best when I use the small concealer brush so I can apply more in areas that need more help. It is very expensive though and I do plan on trying out some of the cheaper varieties not that everyone is making mineral makeup.

Hi people! I'm so glad that there were other people who didn't like Bare Escentuals foundation. I wanted to like it so bad and people were raving about it, but it just wasnt working for me. I'm 47 with a few small wrinkles and some slight acne scars from long ago. I felt that this foundation was too shiny and didn't work well with my oily skin. Plus, the shinyness seemed to accentuate my flaws rather than conceal them. The whole concept of a pure mineral powder foundation sounds great, but isn't very practical.

The pro's for me are that this does cover really well and makes your face "not look made up" It does look natural. The only downside is that I have to use alot more of the product then what they show on tv. It definatly takes more than a minute to apply it because I want to conceal as many imperfections as I can. But, even with using more product I'm still on my first batch and it's been a few months. I do really like this stuff.

Love this stuff, I have been using it for over two years now and am nearing the end of my second jar.
I use it over a liquid foundation because I don't find that has enough coverage by itself to last me all day. My skin is very sensitive and dry, this does not irritate it whatsoever. I have a lot of redness around my nose and it conceals it well. It has also improved the apperance of my skin.
The SPF in it is excellent. I was on vacation at the beach and dusted this on my face quickly, my entire body was sunburnt except for my face.

I really like this and am on my second one. I use this color in the winter and do a combo with #3 in the summer. The SPF is very effective - I don't burn when I wear it, so it stays on. It's so much nicer to reapply this during the day than a lotion sunscreen.
In the summer, when I'm greasier, I put on Cosmedicine Medi-Matte Oil Control tint in light. Then when I need to reapply sunscreen in the afternoon, I use this.
I put BE mineral veil over this and my face looks great. With a light hand, it's natural. The coverage is decent, but I do use a small brush to cover red spots.
Virtually every lotion makes me break out - not this. Highly recommended

this is an edit on my previous review of this item. it took me a while to figure out that this is what was causing my breakouts. i have combination skin, and i used to have flawless cheeks. if i did break out, it would only be on my forehead. but i guess i'm allergic to the bismuth oxychloride in this, because shortly after starting to use their blush (which i've also reviewed), i started breaking out really bad on my cheeks. too bad, because i really liked the blush (i won;t change my review of that, though because it should be fine if you're not allergic). well anyway, back to the foundation. even when my skin was still fine, i wasn't impressed with this product. don't believe the infomercial; it takes more product than leslie shows you to have any noticeable effect. and even then, it's not a great effect. does not cover imperfections that well and it magnifies any dry areas. made my skin oilier than usual throughout the day, which of course didn't help the acne. packaging is messy and difficult to travel with. probably the only thing that i did like about this is the blendability b/c it's loose powder.
