I cannot live without this product. I don't know how it works, I don't know why it works, but it does. I've never had full-blown acne and up until about 2-3 years ago my skin was always relatively clear with the occasional zit. But somewhere the tides turned and those occasional zits turned into 1-2 giant ones that took weeks to go away and left red spots on my pasty skin, only to have another 2 emerge immediately afterwards in new places, and this cycle went on and on without an end in sight. I actually fled to Canada to buy Effaclar K [this was before LRP was in the US], tried to use it as a spot-treatment on existing pimples - what I thought it was good for - and grew pretty discouraged when it did absolutely nothing to shrink/eliminate them so I didn't touch it again for a few months. During that time my skin continued its downward spiral and something made me pick this up again to try as an all-over treatment, applying a light layer to my face after cleansing but before moisturizing every single day, once in a while twice a day. I would say within 3 weeks I began to notice pimples WERE clearing up a little faster but it was by no means a miracle product that got rid of them overnight. However, with continued use it has been a godsend. In the months following my breakouts decreased dramatically - fewer ones were popping up and the ones that did weren't sticking around as long and weren't leaving red marks. Fast forward to today and I can honestly say I get maybe one small breakout every 3 months, if even that, that immediately comes to a head with very little redness and disappears within 3 days. My complexion looks brighter, clearer and more even. Oh and I have SD so almost everything irritates the piss out of my skin, including many other LRP products, but this was not one of them!

It may seem expensive at $20 for 1 oz. but I use less than a pea-sized amount daily and it lasts me about 5 months. I also cut open the tube when it's down it's last leg and am able to scrape out another few days worth. The ONLY thing I don't like is the the metal tube - I have repurchased a few tubes now and almost every single one, when there's about 1/4 or less left, has gotten little puncture holes in the metal from when I squeeze it [and I have a light hand!] and there's sometimes minor leakage.

I bought it because I hoped I will find the right products for my pimples and oily skin. Was a wrong decision, because my face getting worse, my wrinkles was deeper, and the condition of my skin did not improved at all. I am very disappointed. I will not buy it again. And I am feeling sorry for the money I wasted.

best mattifyer! i absolutely love this! i tried the effaclar M matt moisurizer and it broke me out i think. this is absolutely a great product.

i have oily, acne prone skin and i use this before bed and before makeup after my moisturizer. i used to develop that classic (ugh) oily sheen partway thru the day...not any longer! and on work days (im a nurse on a busy busy critical care area) i STILL do not have any oil buildup.

i am in love. will repurchase :)

Utterly useless.

This did nothing at all for me. I used the whole tube and neither felt nor saw anything different.

I have used 2 tubes of Effaclar K but my pores are still very clogged. Hate that smell too.

I did not have much success from this product. Was recommended by derm as I was looking for an alternative to Avene which I have used for years. The product left my skin very dry and irritated though I have oily skin. Too harsh.

Good product. Just the smell, somewhat feels like toothpast. I still miss Avenue's Cleanance K.

This is HG for my skin! Helps to prevent breakouts (I have extremely acne-prone skin) and generally helps to clear our my prone-to-clogging pores. Also my skin gets cranky when it doesn't get this on a nightly basis, those zits start showing up again. I'm on to my third tube and have noticed a general improvement in my complexion. Smells great and has a nice, runny consistency that settles in quickly too. However it does nothing to manage oil, so I definitely wouldn't recommend as a make up base.

This did a good job at preventing future whitehead breakouts, but didn't really do anything for my blackheads or dealing with cystic breakouts. It had a nice matte finish to it, but that was masked by the moisturizer. The packaging was kind of agrivating trying to get product out of the metal tube towards the end.

I love this product. It worked great for my adult acne and black/whiteheads. I use a light moisturizer afterwards. The small tube lasts a very long time. You don't need to use much and it dries quickly. It's also great for razor bumps. Just apply after shaving and no razor bumps. I bought some for my 21 year old son who has mild acne and gets razor bumps easily and it solved his problems. I highly recommend this and I would buy it again. :)

I used to use this in the past, which reminds me I have to restock as it worked well to combat blackheads and improve the surface of my skin. No serious pore refining though and it does not work on other spots for me just blackheads, which is fine as I mostly get those.

When I get other spots I use spot on treatment such as ole henriksen, fucidin and differin. Effaclar AI was not bad if I remember correctly but I do not think it was as powerful

I saw a blurb in British Vogue that Natalia Vodianova uses this to clear up her pores the day before a shoot. I should know better than to buy off the beauty recommendations in Vogue, but this was cheap enough that I thought I might as well try it -- $20 was far better than the $60+ that pore-refining treatments usually go for.

Did it minimize my pores? No. It did take some of my smaller blackheads and make them into whiteheads, but my bigger pores / blackheads remain ever the same. I've been using it for over a month, and I see no measurable difference in the pores on my nose other than that a few small blackheads have turned into pimples, which doesn't generally happen.

What Effaclar does do is clear up acne other than blackheads quickly (hence the 3 rating). When I used it on the deep, underskin acne on my chin, or on the whiteheads I sometimes get there, it cleared them up in a matter of a day or two. This is better than most acne treatments, but a little worse than normal toothpaste (which my chemist family members have always recommended as the best acne treatment).

But I'm still on the lookout for something that will work as a pore minimizer (and no, those $60+ treatments I've tried also didn't work, which was why I thought I'd give Effaclar a spin).

i decided to try this product after reading on raves that it can clear clogged pores and blackheads. it does help in clearing the bumps, but not before turning them into small painful pus-like pimples! the pimples just keeps appearing and i have finally decided to stop using this product after trying for a month. another thing is, i cannot understand how it can be used as a makeup base as it appears so shiny and sticky on me. am on another lookout for a product which can clear clogged pores without the trauma of pimples appearing time and again.

I've bought this treatment cause of a recommendation in a fashion magazine. Since I've never used LRP products before I was eager to try. At first it didn't seem very helpful cause it feels quite oily so I left it overnight and in the morning saw no big difference. It just moisturises. But as I continued using it I really liked the result. My skin became smoother and more even, little local breakouts seemed to get less and I hope they'll go away soon. The only disadvantage of this treatment is that it makes the skin look oily and greasy so I cannot wear it during the day. The rest is fine with me. I really like the soft liquid texture and the smell is quite neutral, which is also a benefit. Though the package is small, you don't need lots of the product at once, so it lasts for long. The tube is very good and convenient to use. Nice product.

This product really made the texture of my skin a little better but it doesn't seem to be working on my acne and red spots at all. I have been using it for three weeks and I can't see a real improvement. But I don't think that this isn't a good product at all. I also think that it can work for other people.
22/3/2009: I had to edit my review, because I had to buy this treatment again after the recommendation of my derm and in conjuction with some other products that I use at night, it seems to do a good job at making the quality of my skin more even and fading (very slowly) the red marks.

I love this product, it works great for my skin. I have some white and black heads which I constantly "squeeze" and some pimples around my period time. I found that Effaclar K makes my skin a lot smoother and I have less problems with my face. I use it in combination with Effaclar A.I. for the big pimples. It is not the cheapest but after I stopped using it for a while I had to go back to it as I found I had more black/white heads as well as pimples. I would have preferred if it was in a pump container, but the tube is not that bad. I also used Paula's Choice BHA 2% and Avene Clearance but LRP is far better. It also calms the redness after I squeeze my black heads and I'm using it on my chest where I have some acne dark marks. I also love the smell - mild and clean. The texture is very light, it absorbs very quickly. My face is not oily and in very cold weather i might need an extra moisturiser, but I'm guessing it's even better for oily skin. In the summer I use it as treatment/moisturiser by itself.

It works for my skin. I wash my face and then apply it at night. My skin feels much smoother in the morning and its texture improves. Does it reduce acne? No, but it helps with acne scars. That's what it's made for.

I love it but I hate it at the same time.
It work for me and is able to cure my breakouts, but the process is not so joyful. I get more pimples and whiteheads at first, and after about 1 month most of the pimples get dry and my skin become smooth and healthy. someone calls it expulsion of toxin, whatever, finally your good looking skin is back.
As far as I know, lots of people can't bear the unpleasant process and quit half-way.
almost forgot, it definitely dry your skin, so moisture lotion is a must.
