My love for Nars lipsticks is deep and passionate :) I have 6 of them and they have always been good to me. After reading the rave reviews about Belle De Jour I bought it off sephora.com for $23.00. It is a gorgeous sheer camel color. The problem with this lipstick is that it's so drying...more so than any lippie I have ever tried. I had to battle it to put it on, once applied it was cakey, flakey, and gross. Within an hour I had the dreaded white lip line. There is a picture on MUA of someone wearing this shade and their lips look shiney...there must be some serious gloss action going on in that pic because this rates a 9 on the matte scale, with 10 being dried glue. Very dissapointed. I'm sure I will make someone happy with this swap considering it is brand new!

I have to be very careful with nude lip colors as they tend to wash me out, but this has enough warmth and pigment so that it doesn't make me look dead. It's an opaque tawny tan (not orangey or brown) that completely covers up the awful blue/mauve undertones in my lips, which I adore because some sheer nude colors don't cover enough and turn pinkish. This color looks the same on my lips as it does in the tube. I do find the texture to be pretty dry - right after I applied I couldn't even rub my lips together. But I mix it with clear shiny gloss or balm and it's fine. For me it's not an everyday nude shade. For that purpose I think it's best suited to medium and dark skintones. That said, I'm fair-skinned and can wear it provided I do a strong or bold-colored eye. Overall this is a good buy, especially if you have trouble wearing nude lip colors.

this is a good nude matte color but it's not necessarily moisturizing for me, maybe that's b/c it's winter time right now. it doesn't feel very creamy when putting it on either. but i have been searching high and low for the perfect nude color for my skin (asian, very pale, with brown/green eyes) and this is it. it doesn't make me look sallow or drawn out. nars has a good color selection.

May 7, 2012:
I have gone through many tubes of Belle de Jour over the last 6.5 yrs...It is my go to daily lipstick. I can mix and match with other lipsticks or gloss or just wear it alone. I am obsessed with having one in my purse and on my makeup counter. I can't live without it!

Nov 8. 2006:
This is a beautiful flesh peach. It's not drying and sits very comfortably on my lips. If applied heavily it gives the mod look. I found that I had to exfoliate my lips before wearing this b/c it accentuates any flakiness on my lips.
FYI: NC25, dark brown hair/eyes.

The perfect matte nude for me! (NC 30-35, tanned asian skin with yellow/olive undertones) Even better than MAC Freckletone. Texture was fine for me (I moisturized beforehand) and this is a certain repurchase.

Belle is a great color for my lips. Comparing it to Bambi which was just yellow-orange horridness on my lips, Belle is much softer, less chalky looking and natural. It provides a neutral lip color that looks like your lips themselves rather than looking like you caked concealer on them.

This came very close to being my HG nude lipcolor- NW20, dark brown hair and eyes, pigmented lips. The color was absolutely perfect, slightly warmer and a bit peachier than Chelsea Girls lacquer but still pale pinky beige. The problem was that no matter how I applied this it looked flaky and dry on me. I used balm, gloss, and primer under and over this and it still looked flaky and settled into the lines of my lips. I suspect it might have been a bad batch because my other NARS l/s is so much creamier and this seems like unusual behavior for a sheer formula. I may try it again at some other time, but for now Chelsea Girls is more low maintenance. Don't let this one put you off NARS lipsticks, they're normally fabulous and versatile.

I’m just not terribly impressed, especially since $23.00 is a lot of money for college student me. I’m not really sure what I was expecting with this...maybe I thought it would be a bombshell, life changing nude, one I would swear by. It’s not and I’m bummed about that.

The only things that works for me in this lipstick is the packaging and the fact there is no smell or taste whatsoever. The packaging is a cute, small black square tube with a stain like finish and “NARS” printed in white over the lid.

The overall color is not right for me, Belle De Jour seems to lean too far into the orange side for my liking, I prefer more bronzed/golden nudes. I hate the finish in combination with this color. It’s difficult to wear without some kind of balm underneath, unless you constantly have perfect smooth lips...this accentuates any texture or imperfections you may have on your lips. The finish is boring, I was hoping it would have a bit of pearl or some shimmer. Color wears off quickly like most sheer lipsticks and I don’t find the formula moisturizing. It just doesn’t work for me. Even if this color was $2 wouldn’t buy it. Lipsticks need to be powerhouses for me. They need to work well on their own without any other product and Belle De Jour does not. No smell or taste which is a great characteristic and in combination with the packaging, earns this a 2. I’ve got several other nudes that totally rock my world so back to NARS it goes. Try before you buy.

For reference:
NC20, light green eyes, pigmented lips, brownish/blonde hair.

A very pale almost not there peach--not beigey on me at all TG (Im a NC20 in Mac). Great for pairing with a nude lipliner or something more colorful (I tried mixing this and Chelsea Girls with Medea and it works quite well). Was looking for a lipstick match to the Chelsea Girls liplaquer and this came close. Like the lip laquer color of Chelsea better but a lipstick is more convenient to apply.

Would consider repurchasing, unless I can find a match in another brand. I prefer unscented lipsticks, so Nars remains one of my favorite High-end brands.

I love, love, love this lipstick! It makes the most perfect nude lip for me (LLL/AAB). It's not grey and corpse-like, nor is it too brown and dark--"Belle du Jour" is a beigey 'flesh' color that neutralizes the natural rosiness of my lips without making my lips disappear. It has yellow undertones, so it will look peachy or too orange on pink or neutral complexions, but is perfect for yellow or olive skin. It doesn't make me look sickly, and has a creamy, slightly satiny finish that keeps it from looking too severe. Makes an awesome base for sheer nude lip glosses (Lancome's Chai Freeze is a good one).

No scent or taste. Good lasting power (a few hours without eating/drinking/etc.) Feels comfortable enough on my lips, though it is a fairly dry formula, so be sure to exfoliate lips and use a balm beforehand. Comes in a sleek, very modern-looking black rubber tube with that iconic NARS logo. Expensive at over 20 USD but worth every penny. Would repurchase.

I wanted a nice nude that I could wear with thick black eyeliner for a Brigitte Bardot look. This made me look like I was dead. I'm not sure who this shade would look good on, but it certainly isn't me.

One of my favorite beiges, this one is tempered with a hint of pink and is in a sheer formula, so its easy to wear. I suggest it with both a natural face and a dark smoky eye.

After trying this on at Sephora and really liking it, I subsequently travelled to 6 other stores in Manhattan before finally locating it at Lord & Taylor. I went to 3 Sephoras, Henri Bendel, Bergdorf, and Saks before FINALLY getting it. So, was it worth all of the rrouble? A big YES! For reference, I am a MAC NC20/25 with dark hair and eyes, and I naturally have very bright pink lips. I had been searching for the "perfect nude" to no avail, until I discovered this. It looks really, really pale in the tube, almost like a concealer, but on the lips, it just tones down the pinkness and leaves a peachy-nude color with a satin-y finish. There is just enough color so that you don't look dead or washed out, and it doesn't turn orange on me, which a LOT of lippies that claim to be "nude" do. The MA recommended that I get Jilted Lover liner to go with this, but I sort of like wearing it without the liner. The packaging is standard NARS packaging - very sleek and nice. So why did I take off 1 lippie? For one, it has that "NARS lipstick smell" - which can be kind of gross... it is a mix between a crayon and who knows what... it just smells chemical-y... I guess I've been spoiled by other brands who scent their lippies. Also, it does have a tendency to dry out the lips a little bit (as all lipsticks do), so sometimes I do have to wear a balm underneath. Overall, I would buy this again!

Best nude. The packaging is great as well as the texture. It s not too creamy that it melts or breaks ( like the VLongo I just purchased & Pout L/s ) but ti has enough consistency to stay a while on your lips.
Doesnt get better than Belle de Jour !

This is the best nude lipstick I've ever tried. It's not too opaque, so you can still tell that you've got lips. My lips are very pigmented, so basically BDJ just lightens them a bit. I figured it would only look with heavy eye makeup, but actually all I wore today (other than BDJ) was blush! It still looked good, but I definitely think it'll look even better if I wear eye makeup with it. I love the texture (it's very creamy and smooth). This lipstick was worth the price tag. I'll buy it again.

This is more sheer and not as drying as Honolulu Honey and Bambi. It gives you a nice, nude, natural lip look, but, it you are looking for something that would be noticeable this not it.

Ah, Honolulu Honey... I renounce you in favour of Belle du Jour, my new favorite pale nude Nars lipstick. They're both pretty similar, except that Belle's sheerer and therefore less drying and more natural than Honey. It may be too light for those of you with already pale lips, but for me with the weird dark lips, this is a godsend. Yay for NARS!

Belle Du Jour- A yellowish, sandy nude is a good description of it's color. It's great paired with NARS Ashes to Ashes e/s for a smokey eyes w/ nude lips combo. Very pretty, but I really dislike how drying the NARS l/s's are.

At first I thought this would wash me out, and all by itself, this pale 60's inspired beige color would. However, when used with Nars' Borneo lipliner and topped with a bit of clear gloss, it's a wonderful neutral. UPDATE: This does wash me out and it's a tad drying. Would be perfect though for that 60's Twiggy look.
