I have NEVER been a floral lover - only because they don't smell good on me. I don't know why - they would just turn sour or acidic and end up making me feel ill or giving me a headache. I have tried though - many times - only because I really love the smell of gardenia, tuberose, jasmine - many of the exotic florals. The first two KIND OF agreed with me - but not to the point I'd ever buy a fragrance with those as the primary notes - there was definitely something weird happening with them once they touched my skin. Jasmine, on the other hand, NEVER smelled nice on me. Anyway, one day I decided to try my sample of Chanel Gardenia. I dabbed it on my wrist - waiting for it at any moment to start making me feel ill. Well, I waited and waited and waited. Oh my goodness - it didn't happen. It was the most gorgeous jasmine/gardenia scent I've ever smelled and it didn't change once it encountered my chemistry. It's not an overwhelming floral, like Fracas, which I really like - on other people. Rather, it's a light, ethereal fragrance. I can't get enough. I'm even considering buying the parfum. It's a bit pricey, yes, but I may never come across a floral (white floral) that smells this good on me again. For the time being, I'll just have to douse myself with the EDT.

I was so happy when Chanel reintroduced this fragrance. Or perhaps they just made it available in the US? I'm not sure, but after researching Chanel, I was dismayed that I could not get it. My DH purchased the huge 3.4oz bottle for me for Christmas and I love it. It's a soft, sweet floral that is never overpowering on me. I do agree that it does not have the lasting power of Allure or Coco, but if spritzed on after applyinga non scented moisturizer it stays quite well on me & my skin is quite dry this time of year. I will happily repurchase if it's available when this bottle is gone, however I believe it might be limited edition.

Oh my gosh, if you haven't tried this, please do. It is such a beautiful scent, perfect for spring or summer. This is a very wearable white floral and on me it's really fresh and sparkling. I have this in the pure parfum and it's worth every penny. I might get this in the EDT as well so I can spritz liberally.

Chanel "Gardenia" Eau de Toilette is an elegant, feminine, light fragrance. I love the creamy scent and vanilla in It. Pop Diva Kylie Minogue wears It. I will defiantly repurchase.

I love gardenias. I love them light and airy; I love them heady and heavy. I love them clean and green; I love them sweet and "pink."
I have smelled this on young women in their twenties, on women in their 50s, on the SA at the store, on 2 of my friends, on myself.
It's not just me.
This smells like patchouli and jasmine and orange.
Where is the Gardenia?

If you like Gardenia scents than this could quite possibly become your all time favorite, This is now my all around fovorite over any other fragrance i have. To me it does indeed have a definite gardenia scent to it, i don't quite detect any jasmine, but i do detect maybe a little honeysuckle as someone else stated. It is voluptuous, it is warm, it is sublime, It has that certain something, what the french call,.. oh i don't know what. As for the staying power it, (like most other current scents out there)Blows, but i enjoy it so much that i do not mind refreshing during the day, and can only hope that The H.O.C. releases an EDP. (perhaps they have already and i cannot find it). One thing i must point out is until Gardenia i never liked any chanel fragrances, i do like many Chanel products and cosmetics but the fragrances have always had such a strong, sharp odor to my nose. this scent, simply put, is beautiful.
****UPDATE**** I have been wearing this almost daily now and i must say i do detect a bit of jasmine in this now, but only a bit...also for those of you who like a heady gardenia, this is not it. this is a soft light somewhat smooth gardenia, i would not call this a "tropical gardenia"..it is more of a sophisticated, elegant gardenia (not to say tropical cannot be sophisticated or elegant.) in other words it smells exactly like what you would expect a chanel gardenia to smell like.

On the one day that I wanted to feel and smell and be the most utterly and irresistably feminine and pretty, I reached for this. Yes, this was my choice of fragrance for my wedding day! We were married in Italy in a beautiful villa near the sea, and this scent held it's own in such a beautiful, idllyic setting. It definitely completed the picture. Bellissima!

After hearing about this smelling more like jasmine than gardenia, I decided to give it a try. Gardenia and I are not the best of friends anymore, but I can handle it in softer amounts. At first, this smelled okay, but not long after, it got this leather scent to it! Eww! I detected the jasmine at first, but an hour later, the leather scent emerged and really ruined it for me. The bottle is very plain, which seems to be a Chanel trait. Not a bad trait by the way. I tried the limited edition EDT, and she said for 1.7oz. it would cost $55! For the EDT! I think it's way too overpriced for what it is, and I truly feel that the name is what makes it so expensive. I think that there are much prettier jasmine/gardenia scents out there nowadays, so I wouldn't waste my money on this one.

I am a huge fan of the House of Chanel & am never dissapointed w/ any of their products. I am not suprised I like this fragrance so much. A lovely MUA member sent me a generous sample of Gardenia & its divine. Its quite feminine & soft & is not overpowering at all. It does smell like Gardenias but, w/ a little twist. Once the fragrance settles on your skin after 5 min.. A soft powder fresh Gardenia scent is left behind. My only gripe is.. The scent doesn't last as long as I would like it to. It is a timeless scent.

I have fallen deeply in love with Chanel Gardenia. It's jasmine, grass, green leaves, and a dry vanilla drydown...stunnning! Chanel fragrances always amaze me, and I am particularly drawn to the earlier fragrances. Chanel Gardenia brings to mind 1920s nostalgia and mystery...it smells delicate, yet full-bodied, and it's pretty and sweet, yet confident. It's a scent Jay Gatsby would have purchased for his beloved Daisy (or Scott would have purchased for Zelda!) It doesn't smell like gardenias at all, which is a good thing, because gardenia perfumes and I don't get along well. I truly admire and appreciate its beauty, perfect composition, and timeless appeal! And it makes me feel excited, and happy...it smells like "spring fever."

I really liked this scent, at first it reminded me of little old ladies with powdery white hair, however after a fe minutes it seemed to change with my body chemistry and voila!! it smelled wonderful, a light almost musky gardenia if you will that is not too heavy or too floral, but as with all chanel fragrances, great staying power!

The scent is amazing - I fell in love with it from the first. However, it fades VERY quickly! I'd say it's gone within the house. It's not worth the $55 imo. I will only use it for special occasions.

Beautiful light scent with a wonderful jasmine/green tea scent. Not too much of gardenia in the undertones, though. Staying power leaves much to be desired since the line only offers edt and not edp. Hopefully edp will come soon for those seeking longer staying power. This is incredibly refreshing and can be used for any occasion and during any season. Perfect for an all around scent. Would recommend.

I really love this perfume! I love the Gardenia scent; and found this to be light, slightly sweet, but not overpowering. I tried it on in front of a Chanel addict; she went "wild" and asked me what it was! Definitely a keeper!

I could literally bathe in this stuff - I have always purchased Dior perfumes but this summer I decided to try something different. This has the loveliest scent to it and I know I'll be buying it again. Only 3 downsides to the product. 1) price 2) the scent seems to wear off to almost nothing if I spray in the morning - always find myself spraying more later on and 3) Chanel makes it only available in the summer of 2004 so I hope I can find it when I run out!

I love gardenias and I love this fragrance. I must admit that I'm a bigger fan of Marc Jacobs EDP, but I do love Gardenia. Very gardenia-y.

A beautiful fragrance. Coming from a floral-hater and one who shuns the house of Chanel in general that is high praise indeed. The name is a bit of a misnomer though -- there is no Gardenia in this to me, yet no jasmine as other have mentioned either. Instead this is a sweet, pure, refined honeysuckle. Very feminine, elegant and classy.

Oh the chemistry! I can't wear this because the drydown smells like hairspray on me (Rave). I wish it didn't because it begins as the loveliest, most beautiful floral on me...that's why the 4 lippies. I heard there are no official gardenia notes in this. As far as I'm concerned, this is good. I just smell pretty white flowers and it's fresh and light. If it dried down nicely, this could even be The One. Too bad. EDIT: Okay, I take it back. Well, not the good stuff. Just the "too bad" and the "drydown smelling like hairspray" stuff. Maybe it doesn't smell like hairspray after all. I think I need some of this, and I'm off to get some before it's all gone (sob)!
