A relatively affordable mattifying powder that has NEVER failed. I have the oiliest t-zone and NOTHING besides this, not even MAC blot powder, can stop it from shine. This lasts the whole day and just melts into the skin leaving it matte and even-toned. However, can sometimes accentuate dry skin so always moisturise beforehand.

I have been using this product for about 10 years, which goes to show how much I love it as I tend to have no brand loyalty. This is the only powder which really stops shine on my skin for most of the day, and I love the scent (I get it in Rose. Once a few years ago when it was the old packaging, they must have got mixed up as it most definitely smelled of lavender despite the rose label). It does go on a bit "coarse" but I find that it softens after 30 min to give a natural look. This is about my only beauty staple apart from sunscreen and Paula's Choice mocha lipliner, and I hope it is NEVER discontined (if it is I will be first in line buying 1000 containers... not that I'd need that many as 1 container does last a while).

First time impression: the smell was so strong, I got it in lavender.. I can smell the scent even after 1 hr putting it on. But nice smell, just overpowering, but then I get used to it until now (more than 2 wks). The only thing that I DON'T LIKE is the texture of the powder, yes it is more rough than ordinary loose powder. I wear Bare Escentual foundation and kabuki brush, so I use the brush to apply this powder as well just like the Bare mineral veil. Since this powder doesn't come with any puff or brush. I can feel the brush itself changing the texture because of Jurlique rough texture, it's not finely mild powder. When I used mineral veil, the kabuki brush texture stays the same, cos it's very silky powder. But with Jurlique powder..... I CAN totally feel it on my skin. The result is pretty good, it's not white masky type. But, I still prefer colored loosed powder, I'm not into translucent. I like a little healthy color on my face. I like mineral veil better altho they're both translucent or SHU Uemura or Becca loose powder.

I love this stuff .i use a powder everyday because my face is so oily ,but because my skin is so bad i wanted to chamge to a powder that is a bit better for my face. The jurlique powders have all natural organic ingridients which has to be better than normal cosmetic powders.it is translucent once on the face and literally feels so silky on your face.i bought the rose first and because i loved it so much a bought the lavender one for my bag ,i prefer the rose smell myself.FAB product will certainly repurchase!

this is good. very good indeed. i have the rose because i prefer this scent to the lavender one. after foundation and loose powder i apply this with A VERY LIGHT HAND...i find that too much makes me look chalky and white. Considering how much you need to use for each application - AU$22 is great value. it doesnt control oil completely but i find that if i dont apply this, i get shiney faster so this must be doing something! even though i am applying this OVER an already powdered face - it does not look cakey. yep - i really like this. oily skinned girls should really check this out.

I seem to have this irrational need to wear powder (or I'm just a product junkie), but it doesn't seem that any powder agrees with my skin type (mostly oily, large pores). I feel like I've tried them all and this one was my last ditch effort. I got this in Rose, only because lavender was out of stock everywhere. After reading all the posts, I used this very lightly over my usual MU application to set. I found the texture to be rougher than most and didn't feel nearly as finely milled as the other loose powders I've tried. The whiteness of this was scary (I'm MMM), but it did go on very sheer with no white residue at all. But after about an hour, the usual happened...sank into my pores accentuating every one of them along with all my flaws and making my skin look very blotchy and uneven. Sigh. I did like it better than TL's loose powder, but thats really not saying much. So I'm giving up my "must have powder to set" obsession. I'm offically over it. Right :P

I'm on my second tub of the Lavender Silk Dust and I used the first one for up to 9 months with daily usage! It lasted that long so this is great value for money. I've acne-prone skin and apply this over mineral makeup as a mattifier. The powder is fine. It's white in colour but does not leave a cast on my face unless I over-dust it, in which I will then look kind of dull. [edit 16 July 2008: No longer using this powder as I have switched to other alternatives.)

This is a great product,I was hesitant to buy it at first because it was white but after reading good reviews gave in and bought it and I'm glad I did. This stuff gets rid of the shine but looks totally natural on,unlike normal face powder with talc.It feels really light on and I love the smell(I got lavender)If you look pale with this on then you"re using too much. You only need a tiny bit so the jar will last months,so good value for $20au.Unlike some I actually like the jar,the sifter lid is a great idea.Definately reommend trying this.

The best powder I have tried. Beautiful smell, silky texture. I apply it with my finger, as using a brush tends to waste it, and it is very expensive. I may start using it in tandem w/ the darker Dr. Hauschka powder when I wear my sunscreen, as the whiteness of this powder tends to augment the whiteness of my sunscreen. But for a rainy day, or for the evening when I'm not wearing sunscreen underneath my makeup, this is perfection in a powder.

I have this in Rose Silk and am loving it. I have dry, sensitive skin but get oily and shiney t-zone and this dusting powderr helps control that. I brush it over my face after tinted moisturizer, and then again after putting on blush to set it. I don't wear a lot of make-up so this does the trick for me to set make-up for the day. My face doesn't look dry with this, was looking at it today and realised that it is kinda dewy in a nice natural way. Would buy again.

After trying so many loose & pressed powders I think I have found the perfect one (at least for me). The great thing about this powder is that it has a very pure composition that doesn't clog my pores , interfere with my sunscreen or turn my yellow/olive complexion into that of an extra from Thriller! Not only that, it is very sheer and natural and has a a delicate scent- I have the Rose version. If you just want to take the edge of your shine and still look like you're not wearing powder this is for you, pricey but worth it.

I received the lavender silk dust as a birthday present and am very pleased with it. The lavender is supposed to help with breakouts Ė I canít say if Iíve noticed a difference, but it certainly helps keep my very oily t-zone matte for much of the day, and it sets my makeup well. The scent is pleasant, but I think I might try rose next time instead. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I actually donít mind the packaging Ė I just tip the container upside down (with the lid on), then unscrew the lid and use a brush to pick up the powder that has sifted out. Itís even safe to travel with (Iíve done so many times) because Iíve found that not very much powder will sift out at a time. A small wad of cotton/cotton pad placed inside the jar would help, too.

Reasonably cheap (considering the price of loose face powder and Jurlique products generally), attractively packaged, talc-free dusting powder that actually works. I have oily skin and was suprised to find this stuff actually mattifies and stops the oilies from returning. Don't be too heavy-handed with this otherwise you'll have to hang out at Carmilla's. Oh, and smells great.

Unfortunately, due to a shipping snafu, I didn't receive my order for this until last week (I ordered in mid-July when my shiny face forced me on a quest for a good mattifier). Lately, the weather's gotten cooler and dryer and my skin has gone from being combo/oily to combo/dry. So keeping that in mind: a light dusting of this stuff in the morning after moisturizer and sunscreen does help keep down the greasies. I still get oil on my blotting sheets, but it's not as much as before. of course, this could also be the result of several other factors: my changed skin condition; cooler weather; Dr. Hauschka Normalizing Day oil; C.O. Bigelow Extra Lite Face Lotion.
The silk dust is a fine, pure white powder that looks and feels exactly like talcum powder but according to the ingredients list, is talc-free. The list is fairly short and includes some nice botanical extracts: Calendula, Witch Hazel, Rosemary, Arnica, Lavender Oil, Rose Oil, Daisy, Sage, Orris. I have the Rose version and it smells like a real, fresh rose to me; it's not nearly as heavy or perfumey as I'd feared and the scent doesn't really linger. I think I'd still prefer another kind of scent or none at all, but I'm fine with it. The white color is not a problem for me, even though I am a warmish MMM, as long as I dust this on lightly and (sometimes) use a normal-colored powder on top. Nowadays this is actually making me feel a bit too dry, so I'll try reserving this for extra-oily days. I'll add that it's impossible to do a dewy look with this on so be prepared to make some trade-offs.
Packaging is a heavy, white ceramic jar with a built-in sifter. Not practical for travel but you can get travel sifter jars from Sephora or other beauty supply stores (Milani also sells mini loose powders for about 5 bucks--just dump out the contents and refill). Expensive at nearly 30 USD for 10 grams and hard to find unless you live near Australia--I had to order mine from eBay. But it does work.

I'm an eye makeup girl and that's about it. But since I have oily skin (even after matte-finish sunscreens), and since I assume rice papers remove precious sunscreen *along* with excess oil, I need something to combat the oilies.
But then not just any ordinary powder. It can't have any metal ions or yellow or black iron oxides, zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, or mica, as these unfortunately-omnipresent face makeup ingredients have been shown to degrade sunscreen active ingredient Avobenzone (also dubbed Butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane or trademarked "Parsol 1789"), thus possibly generating free radicals. While I question ALL theories such as this one and because this hypothesis is not 100% conclusive, and since I don't typically use face makeups anyway, I feel it's best to veer on the conservative side when I *do* purchase a face powder, making sure it does not contain the above. An extraordinarily rare find, Jurlique Rose Silk Dust Powder is exactly that. That in and of itself deserves the full 5-lippie rating from me!
This product is simple - but believe me, it does precisely what it is meant to. It gets rid of the shines, and if it leaves a light finish, it dissipates altogether within 30 minutes max. I wear a fragrance called Miso Pretty Body Mist, and the Jurlique Silk Rose Dust meshes beautifully with this scent's notes of peony & tuberose. I love everything about this product and have full intentions of reordering - that is, if I ever run out. A little bit goes a very long way, and it will last forever!

this is a good product. 1. talc-free. this is my first concern. (other good loose powders which are talc-free and i like are BE's mineral veil and chantecaille's [very expesnive]. 2. it does some antiseptic job on zits. 3. dont use too much, coz the particles are not very fine, will leave you a WHITE POWDERY MASK, so my trick is, only on zits, and some oily areas.

I use Lavender Silk Dust and it is an absolute holy grail for my t-zone. This is eons better than the Dr. Hauschka one and I am completely in love with how well it keeps me shine-free and yet does not aggravate acne nor dry out the skin nor cake up any makeup. The white powder can be slightly visible but a lighter dusting is just as effective so I sweep barely a veil over my t-zone over my regular powder. I heard this is also extremely effective as a deodorant body powder though I have not yet tried it...

This is a fantastic product. I only need to a apply a small amount and it controls oil all day long - no blotting or shiny forehead anymore! I apply it with a Kabuki brush and it goes on smoothly and evenly. I've only used it in winter so far, I guess the real test will be summer, but I have no doubt it will do the trick. I'll update!

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. I cannot say enough how amazing i thought this powder was the first time i used it. I had to buy both because i simply could not decide as they both smelled heavenly. I find it best to apply using fingers after dispensing some on a dry palm, it's had to imagine doing it if u know what i mean, so used to applying powder using a puff or brush. it really does reveal ur actual skin like u have not put on makeup. i didnt need to blot the whole day and the look is naturally matte. don't be put off by its chalky appearance, it dissappears the moment it touches the skin. A must try.

This powder is so finely milled that it just vanishes into skin. It's controls shine all day but still looks very natural, not cakey at all. I only need to use a small amount of product, so this will probably last me forever. If I ever run out though, I'll repurchase.
