I used Tartes lights camera lashes mascara and then Benefits Better Than Sex, both are great by the way, but I'm in love with this mascara. I've had a lot of people actually ask me if they're real!

Finally, a mascara that actually works.
Note that the wand packs a lot of mascara at once, if you use it like that you're going to have wet, clogged, clumpy lashes. always wipe of excess on a tissue and then use it, not 1 eyelash sticks to another if done right. Definitely use the zig zag motion when using this mascara. It does lengthen lashes and separate. It is a brilliant mascara, ONLY if you wipe of the excess on a tissue!

Love love love! Totally lengthening, and lifting! The first couple of applications were so-so, and then it really wowed me so I think it takes some getting used to. I wish it was a little more volumizing, but it still an amazing product. The brush is cool too, the spiky tip lets you get all the little hairs in the corners, it does take some getting used to though. Definitely recommend, it makes your eyes look so pretty!

After some trial runs, I'd say that this is a great mascara but not for me. I have sparse, medium-length, straight lashes and slightly hooded eyes, so I tend to judge mascarsa based on their staying power, curling ability and volume.
The brush is medium-to-big-ish and straight. It's quite simliar to L'Oreal Voluminous and Diorshow's brushes. This might be a problem for people with tiny eyes or shaky hands, but it's not nearly as bad as the giant plastic mascara brushes from some drugstore mascaras.
The formula is quite dry but easy to apply with at the same time. It gives a lot of volume immediately and is both matte and jet black, so it's very noticeable. I wasn't able to "build up" this mascara very much; when I tried, it got cakey and spidery quickly. It works best if you apply it quickly and thoroughly in one coat.
It held a curl well throughout the day, but I was most impressed with its staying power. Despite NOT being waterproof, it stayed all day and did not smudge at all under or above my eyes. The only non-waterproof mascara that was capable of doing this on my hooded eyes was Diorshow.
However, I was just not a fan of how heavy and obvious it looked. I also didn't like that if I applied a LITTLE too much, it looked gunky and gross. I think this is a great mascara for people who apply makeup quickly and love huge, thick lashes, but I will stick to mascaras that are more buildable and user-friendly like Diorshow or L'Oreal Voluminous.

I had wanted to try Benefit's "They're Real" mascara for such a long time now but I wasn't prepared to pay for the over inflated Australian prices. So I waited and waited until I could get to the nearest Sephora during my recent trip to the US. I purchased the twin pack, which came with one full size and the other a travel size for $23USD.
Firstly, I have asian eyelashes which mean they are straight, hard to curl, sparse yet I have decent length. My impressions the wand looked scary and the formula was very wet. From Benefit's claims here's my impression on this mascara.
-Curls: No but perhaps will after curling with an eyelash curler.
-Volumizes: No, plastic brush bristles too far apart.
-Separates: Yes but spidery
-Jet black, long-wearing formula won't smudge or dry out: Yes, yes and yes (won't dry because it's too wet)
-A specially designed brush: Yes, interesting brush design. However, I found it pulled way too much on my lashes and caused some discomfort on first application.
So, to summarize will I repurchase this? No. And do they look like your lashes but better? No.

The brush is absolutely fantastic, the only brush that has come close for me is Covergirl LashBlast, but it clumped way more than They're Real. I was hesitant to buy because of the price but it was worth it. I don't ever think I saw one clump; seriously, I have sadly run out but will be buying again soon, until then I am using the brush with another mascara. Can't wait to buy it again!

This was the first mascara I ever liked enough to start wearing on a near-daily basis. Even now, after a few years, and with all the other different brands I've tried, both high-end and drugstore and everything in between, nothing can compare to They're Real for me! This is one of my ultimate holy grails among my daily makeup.
This particular mascara seems to be very hit or miss-- it either works really well for you, or you hate it. This has proven true among my friends, and is only reinforced by the reviews I read here. For me, it works very very well, and I don't seem to have any of the same problems that other reviewers have had.
For me, this mascara is lengthening and volumizing, so much that I have to raise my eyebrows and half-close my eyes after applying it until it at least partially dries, or else my lashes will get black mascara all over my brow bone-- which is both a downside and an upside at the same time. It never gets clumpy unless you're careless enough to let your lashes dry and set in between coats. As with all mascara, but especially with this one, never ever try to apply this to dry lashes-- that's where spider lashes are born, after all.
I've never had a problem with this mascara smearing or creating panda eyes during the day, perhaps due to the fact that I don't have oily skin. Unless I accidentally rub my eyes, or fall asleep with my mascara on (oops!), it pretty much stays in place. I've cried countless times with this mascara on, and at the worst, it smudges just slightly under your eyes (fixable with a simple tissue), but never runs.
My only gripe about this product is that it sticks to your lashes like some kind of unholy super glue!! It's not advertised as waterproof, but it really should be, as it's more waterproof than any advertised waterproof mascara I've owned! This also means it's nearly impossible to remove completely, though, even with oil-based makeup remover and a stack of cotton pads. Often, I lose lashes. I can spend ten minutes trying to wash all of it off with strong makeup remover before I shower, and when I get in and rub my eyes, I still end up with black film on my hands! Usually I just rub and rub and rub gently until it stops coming off black, then deal with the panda eyes that gives me after I get out of the shower. Oh, the things I do for love.
Also, I really wish this stuff came in brown, as I am very pale and it would provide a more subdued daytime look. But for now, I can live with a light coat of black!
Gotta love this mascara, though!

Nope...would not buy this. Got a sample of this as a birthday perk from Sephora, so, thankfully, did not pay full price. I will say that it makes your lashes look HUGE. My lashes are already pretty long, so the "fake lash" look was definitely in full effect. But the amount of pressure that had to be applied to wash this stuff off was far too harsh for my 40 plus eyes. At my age, you really want to avoid being too harsh around the eyes...and this stuff was a total pain to remove. Also, if you apply too much, you get the dreaded "spider lashes". That's ok...I'll stick to Cliniques's High Impact.

I liked this mascara, it made me eyelashes look nice and long and thick BUT it always ran under the eye which is a problem. I dont know if this was just me? I do not tend to get this with many other mascara's...
I think I would repurchase to try it out in the winter to see if it still smudges.

It's OK. I received a gift size for my bday gift at Sephora. I like
the dramatic lashes it gave me, however the brush was horrible
in my opinion, way too stiff and poke-y. The brushes plastic bristles
were all most spike like and painful when I tried to get a really
close application at the base of my lashes.
The formula is a little too thick and clumpy for my taste,
it took a bit of work when applying. Overall it was a decent
look, however on account of the unpleasant bristles, and less
than favorable formula I will have to skip it.
I know some love this mascara, it's just not my cup of tea.
ETA: I have been restesting despite my disdain for
the spikey painful brush (I prefer a much softer brush, that
could not be considered a weapon near the eyes!)
I have to deduct further points as this is very hard to remove,
and leaves a rubberized plastic type coating on my lashes.
It also clumps them together. Awful product so glad
mine is from the Sephora birthday set, VERY disappointing.
