I hesistated before giving this cleanser 5 lippies, but after thinking about it I have no reason not too. It removes my heavy duty foundation/powder/etc better than any cleanser I've ever used, so it leaves my skin really clean. I swipe with toner afterwards and for the first time there is absolutely no m/u residue. I tend to have dry/dehydrated skin and I never feel dry after using this, unlike the J&J Baby Wash that was highly rec'd on the skincare board. Some people have concerns about the SLS in this cleanser, but the Baby Wash does as well and it aggravates my dryness in that, but not in the UFC. Like most Kiehl's packaging it could be more attractive, but I like it and it is perfectly functionable. At $26.50 Canadian it's at the higher end of the cleansers I've used, but reasonable & so worth it. I have rec'd this to both my sisters & will to my makeup wearing friends as well.

This product does not let me down at all. It prevents cystic bumps i get at least once a month, and keeps my cheeks clear of huge blackheads. However, it fails to get rid of the small bumps on my forehead. Generally though, I would my skin is much clearer now than when I was not yet using it. I will continue using this until i find a better cleanser.

My favorite facial cleanser - gentle for sensitive skin, less break outs, kinda chemical-like smell, but no added fragrances.

my one gripe about this product is that the sodium laureth sulfate (detergent) is the second ingredient, so you have to be very careful with only using a tiny bit or feels very drying... i do like how it removes my makeup very well but overall this product is just satisfactory.

I've been persevering with this product for about 4 months but I'm finally giving up. I like the rich, creamy lather and it gets every bit of make up off but it just isn't helping with my spots. In fact, I think the creamy texture may actually cause spots. If you've got dry or combination skin I'd recommend this but not for oilier, break out prone skin like mine.

Kiehl's UFC is overly drying for me. I don't have dry or sensitive skin naturally, yet I have to use a ton of moisturizer after I cleanse with this. Otherwise I feel uncomfortably dry and tight. It's expensive as well, and the smell is a little chemical-ish. One good thing is that it lasts a very long time, a little goes a long way. It doesn't give me additional breakouts as far as I can tell.

Great no frills cleanser. I use this when my skin goes through a dry patch as it is creamier than my usual Paula's Choice Balancing Cleanser. I use MAC's Cleansing Oil to remove my make-up and follow-up with this cleanser and then top with the Ultra Facial Moisturizer in the evening or a tinted moisturizer with SPF in the morning. Leaves my skin clean but not dry, with no remaining residue. I think that it'd be a good choice for most, although not for the driest of skins.

Love this one. It`s very gentle. Works really well on combo skin. Moisturise dry points and don`t over drying. Also you get your make-up easy away. I usually put small amount on my wet fingertips, then rub it and wait that will foam little bit and then rub it on to my face and add more water. It`s really feel lovely on face. And this one last for ages. Best cleanser for me.

As I have said in my other reviews, I have probably the worst skin on the planet, oily but moisture deprived, acne, rosacea, red and angry and highly sensitive to products!
I have been using a retinol treatment, and my derm. ordered me to not try anything with any fragrances or acids or anything that would cause my skin to be more peelie. I was using Cetaphil under his request, but my skin was so tight and unhappy I knew I had to do something!
I went to the kiehl's store and was impressed at the overall atmosphere and recieved outstanding customer service from a very professional and kind woman who really listened to me. How often does that happen? She practically DISCOURAGED me from buying anything until I had a chance to try some samples. She recommended the Ultra Facial Cleanser, Calendula Toner, and Ultra Facial Moisturizer! I love them all!
The Ultra Facial Cleanser is a lovely basic cleanser that really makes my skin feel *CLEAN* without feeling tight and angry. It has a really nice and thick lather and really gets my heavy duty foundation off. When I use my toner, there are no traces of makeup on the cotton pad. AMAZING! Not expensive, either for what it is...really love this and the whole kiehl's line!

I'm thoroughly impressed with this cleanser to be honest. When I played around with it in the store, it looked like a drying cleanser very similiar to the foaming facial cleanser from neutrogena but with a thicker consistency. However, this one is much better! You really need a tiny tiny amount for a good foamy lather and it does an excellent job at removing MU. I bought this out of impulse because I would normally never buy a cleanser that costed 26.50 CAD! I guess I felt like indulging that day but boy am i glad. It's not drying at least to me, but it removes MU so well! it also lasts and lasts because you need so little! <3 it

I figured since I had sensitive, dry, acne prone skin, a gentler formulation would be kind to my skin along with acne toner and treatment (the blue line). Although it says it does not leave skin dry or strips the skin of its oils..my face is still left pretty flaky. I use a make up remover, but this ends up removing the left over bits on my face. Though this may work well for some people, I'm still on the look out for a cleanser than doesn't dry out my skin.

You know, I really like this cleanser. I got it about a year ago, used it for a week and kind of forgot about it. This summer I ran out of my normal stuff and money was tight so I tried using this one again. I was amazed that it didn't break me out, did an excellent job of getting rid of makeup/dirt and yet left my skin feeling really soft. Didn't get that 'tight' feeling gel cleansers often give me, was not drying at all! I have oily/acne prone skin and this did a great job, in the winter I switch my routine a bit, I use MACs cleansing oil in the evenings if I wear makeup but I still use the kiehls cleanser in the morning or the evening if I don't wear makeup. This stuff is kind of pricey but honestly a little goes a long way! It has lasted me a really long time so the price point is not so bad. Worth checking out if you want a basic no frills cleanser.

This isn't bad! It doesn't sting and seems to be pretty gentle on my acne-prone, retinoid-treated skin. A little pricey, but I swear this will last forever as I only need a pea-sized amount. Seriously, I don't know when this will ever run out considering the amount I need for a nice rich lather. I took off one lippie for the packaging, becuase I always prefer a pump.

I love this too. I use this with the Ultra Facial Cream and get great results. The only thing I'm not happy about with this is that it contains SLS which is a pretty harsh sulfate. I haven't had any major problems with my skin drying out yet, so I'll have to watch that, esp. since winter is right around the corner.

Love, Love, Love this. It cleared my skin, and I could feel this 'clean feeling' of it. Infact, I love the whole Kiehls range. The moisturiser and toner work best to complement this excellent cleanser. Will definetly repurchase.

This is an unexpected LOVE. I had researched Kiehl's moisturizers and decided to go pick one up, and on a whim got this as well. It's amazing. It's creamy and doesn't dry my skin out at all, yet it's not so creamy that it feels heavy or makes me break out. I also like that it's not super runny. I really feel like it "clings" to any makeup or oils on my face and gets everything off, without stripping my skin. I don't even have to use a separate eye makeup remover with this. Packaging is a win - nothing fancy, just a standard squeeze tube, and the price isn't too bad compared to some of the cleansers I've been trying out from Sephora, either.

This is a freaking AWESOME cleanser- definite HG status. This is kind of expensive, but one bottle will last a very long time, as it only takes a very small amount of this concentrated cleanser to do the job.
This removes every trace of makeup and sunscreen (mascara included) with absolutely no drying out of the skin. I use retin-a and this is most definitely compatible. No fragrance- just a simple, straight-forward cleanser. I love how my skin feels simply clean- no dryness, stripping, or promises of miracles. Just cleanliness.
Will definitely repurchase.

I've been using this cleanser for about 6 months and am still on my first tube. Would prefer a pump dispenser, but overall packaging is fine. Great product. Cleanses without stripping, leaves my skin soft, no breakouts at all since using (and I always thought my moisturizer was causing my breakouts). Not drying, quite soothing actually. Will definitely be repurchasing.
Update (12/09): Too drying for the winter, will reuse in the summer.

This is such a great mid-ranged priced cleanser. It really does work on lots of different skin types. I have combination skin and get oily on my nose but also have dry patches elsewhere. This is the first cleanser that I have used that actually gets me clean and gets rid of blackheads and oil on my nose but also doesn't cause dryness. My skin doesn't feel tight at all after using it twice a day, and my moisturizer goes on great. The only thing that might turn some people off is the smell. It has a slight pool-like smell, though I don't mind it.
On a related note, just remember when reading reviews that in general you need to use products for a long time (~4 months) before you see their full effectiveness. The fact that you get zits the day after using a new cleanser or moisturizer does not mean that it's from those products. Lots of factors enter in like stress, food, hormones etc. Of course if you have an allergic reaction, that is a whole different story. Moral of the story is to talk to a dermatologist or esthetician, read scientific research articles, and read reviews but take them with a grain of salt. When it comes down to it, most consumer reviewers really don't know that much about the science of skin care, cosmetic chemistry, etc including myself.
