I bought this cleanser after reading all the rave reviews about its gentleness, but once I used this product, I was very disappointed. It dried out my skin terribly. I wasn't even using any harsh acne products at the time. It was Purpose that was drying me out. And what's worse, is that it was the middle of summer, when my face is normally more oily. Thank goodness I didn't try this in the winter! When I think of gentleness, I think of: no stinging, burning, or excessive drying. While it didn't sting or burn, the excessive dryness was more than I could handle, and extremely unhealthy for my face. When you wash your face, you face shouldn't feel dried out at all afterward. If it does, then the cleanser isn't for you.

As for makeup removal, however, Purpose does a very nice job. It's a very thorough cleanser, and my skin did feel intensely cleansed after using it. Just a little "too" cleansed for my sensitive skin.
If you don't have sensitive skin that is prone to dryness, then I'd say go for it, but if you do, I'd avoid this because it would be just a waste of money.

My skin is sensitive and acne-prone. After trying out so many acne-fighting cleansers, I decided it might be better to use gentle products that won't irritate my skin.

Purpose Gentle Cleansing Wash is soap free, oil-free, hypoallergenic, and non comedogenic. It can be found in most drugstores. It retails for around $6 depending on where you buy it. Packaging is a rectangular bottle with a pump dispenser. It's a basic cleanser that's not irritating, makes my skin feel clean, and doesn't break me out. I love the scent; it smells like baby wash.

I use it morning and night. At night, I wash my face twice. The first time is to remove my makeup, the second to clean my skin. Since it's so gentle, washing twice in a row doesn't dry out my skin. One pump is enough for my whole face.

The only con is that it's easy for water to leak into the bottle through the pump, diluting the cleanser. It's not a big problem as long as I keep it away from the shower water.

Sometimes I stray away from this cleanser to try other fancier/more expensive products that don't work as well. I always end up coming back to Purpose and my skin gets better again. I'm going to try and resist other cleansers since this one works best for me.

I bought this based on MUA reviews and I'm sad to say I don't really like this product. Since switching cleansers to Purpose, I have been breaking out more than usual. I don't think that it takes off all makeup and yet it seems drying at times too. I used to use Olay moisture balancing face wash and I liked it better.

I love this cleanser! It was recommended to me by my mother, since no other cleansers worked on my oily, acne-prone skin, Using this in conjunction with the dual-purpose moisturizer has given me the best skin I've ever had.
UPDATE:
Unfortunately, this stopped working after awhile. It just was drying my skin out to much, to the point where I would have to exfoliate right after using this if I didn't want my skin to look dull. I also started breaking out a lot on my forehead, which is definetly new; I've never gotten pimples there before.

This clenser takes all my makeup right off. It does it very gently even my MASCARA!!! which is great I don't have to tugg on my eyes to take the mascara off. It also smells great! I do have very little acne, I get it every so often here and ther but no big deal. I think this product is made more to clense your skin and to take all the dirt and gunk it build through the day off. Definitely give it a try for only about $5 at Target, why not.

I can't believe it took me so long to discover this brand!!! I have done the typical acne cleansers, blah blah blah with poor results. I finally decided to throw in the towel and do some research on a gentle cleanser that would not screw with or strip away my skin. And I have discovered my most favorite shower cleanser ever!!! My skin, which is highly acne prone when under stress or when I work out, hasn't been this happy in a long time! Old acne is fading away and new acne doens't really exist! Please, if you have tried every other acne cleanser on the market and it came up short, give this a try.

I have been using the daily moisturizer too, SPF 15, fantastic!

Been trying to look for a decent cleanser for a while. This stuff is great, it washes off EVERYTHING. Much better than the cetaphil cleanser I normally use. Though it did get a little drying after wards, but a little olay complete to moisturize my face helps fix that up.

I bought this cleanser as a cheaper alternative to Neutrogena One Step Gentle Cleanser. I use a foaming wash to take off all my facial makeup and I usually only have to take eye makeup remover after to clean up what's left behind. With this cleanser, I would take toner to my face afterward and the cleanser did not remove all my foundation (this should be pretty simple b/c I have oily skin and not much remains for me by the end of the day). It really felt like taking nothing to my face. Everyone else really likes this, and maybe those reviewers use something else to take off makeup or have dry skin. It doesn't really do anything good for my skin either (probably as a result of not thoroughly cleansing my makeup from my skin) and really feels like foamy water to me.

Perhaps one of the most bothersome aspects is the packaging. I leave my cleanser in the shower generally b/c that's where I use it most often. Water seeps into the bottle and I didn't really notice for a few weeks until my bottle was full again. I don't keep it where water directly drips on it either, just incidentally. Its not worth the $6 I paid for it. If it was $3....I'd consider it again, but for now I'll stick with the Neutrogena which is the most effective gentle cleanser I've tried so far.

This is my favorite drugstore cleanser and I use it often. It has never caused me any breakouts or dried up my skin. Plus, it removes my makeup quite well. I love the fact that it's gentle yet it lathers well. Great product. :)

I love this Cleanser! It feels so soft on my skin and I haven't had any horrible break outs since I started using it. The only thing I don't like it the fact that the bottle is so small and I have to pay so much for barely anything. I got through each bottle so fast.

One thing I didn't like was the pump, every bottle I had it kept breaking so I had to put a regular pop open cap to use it.
