This is my HG of hair care products. I have wavy/frizzy hair that has been impossible to manage all of my life. I got this product as part of a product test...and I am so glad I did. I use just a little of this product after I towel dry my hair, before blow-drying it straight. First of all, the smell is terrific :) But beyond that...my hair looks amazing! My hair is smoother, shinier, and has more body. I would pay any amount of money for this product...it is THAT good! Just be careful not to work too much of it into your roots because that will make your hair look greasy. I gave samples to both my mom and sister because I liked it so much...and they both ran out and bought it for themselves (and we all have fairly different hair types...my mom's hair is stick straight and my sister's hair is curly but not at all frizzy). So, just to let you know, it works for many hair types.

I actually really, really like this product. I took one point off for the price. Kind of expensive, but I use so little of this per application that I think It will probably last a year.
I have fine hair that's a little past shoulder length and has a bit of a wave. Sometimes I flat iron though. I just use the tiniest amount rubbed between my fingers then spread on mid to ends of hair. That gives me that piece-y, sort of funky look I sometimes want. You can easily brush through it though and it just gives hair more body.
I will re-buy this, although it will probably be months from now.

I like this product; I have very straight hair, and this makes my hair appear as if it is in perfect condition -- even when it's not (from hair drying or being too long between salon visits.) I rub a tiny dab between my palms and rub it through my hair when it's still damp, then blow-dry it. It's sort of perfect for me -- I can't even say it's expensive, because the one tube will last me forever -- but I remove one lippie because when I use too much, the cake-like smell bothers me. Too sweet-smelling; other than that, perfection.

I went out and bought this product because of all of the wonderful things I've heard about it from friends and reviews. However I really feel like it does nothing for me. I have long layered hair that tends to frizz on humid, hot days. It is expensive but you only need a little dab, so it should last awhile.
The smell is wonderful. That's about all that's good. Alas, in the LONG search of the perfect product this is NOT it and I don't plan on repurchasing.

This is such a weird product...when I put it in my weird (thick, frizzy, coarse, chinlength) hair while damp, I never know what's going to happen. Sometimes it makes my hair look bouncy and clean, other times it makes it look greasy and weighed down. The only factor I can attribute this to is humidity. This product does nothing in the face of humidity. But I love it because it smells like almonds and it does help keep my hair in place on non-humid days. Otherwise I use D:Fi pomade/wax, which is very similar but has a lot more hold. The price is ridiculous considering how much I have to use though...that is my main complaint. 3.5/5 lippies.

EDIT: I USE THIS EVERY DAY WHEN MY HAIR IS LONG ENOUGH TO TIE BACK - SEALS IN MOISTURE AND ALLOWS ME TO AIR DRY TIED BACK SO I CAN USE HOT ROLLERS LATER ON WHILE STILL LOOKING SILKY/MOISTURIZED. ONE LIPPIE MORE FOR JSD :P

I've been through 2 tubes of this and I really like it. It doesn't have a strong smell and I can't really over do it. I used to use Bedhead Manipulator, but now that my hair is long, it can make me look a little too greasy. Silky Dirt gives my longer, bushy hair a bit more "mess" and control so I can give it the undone look I prefer. It helps my ponytail stay in place and gives enough grab for buns and other hairstyles. If you want something nice and neat, this isn't the product for you.

Phenomenal product especially with medium to long length hair. I used to use Dirt when my hair was a shorter length, but Silky Dirt is amazing for adding tons of shine and hold with my long layers. The smell is a bit unusual although pleasant. The only key is to use a little bit. If too much is used it has a tendency to make the hair greasy. A bit pricey, but then again, you don't have to use much to get fantastic results.

As one other reviewer said, I agree that this stuff makes my first day hair look like second-day hair, which for me means it is still thick-looking yet shiny and smooth. And this is great for times when I really need my freshly showered hair to behave. Further, unlike many of the reviewers I rather liked the smell and I didn't find it to be greasy or to weigh my (long, thick, slightly frizzy) hair down.

My main gripe with it is that it makes my second-day hair look like first-day hair! Day two after using this, I wake up to slightly frizzy, dull hair, which is a bit of a bummer. I think this happens because Antin's Silky Dirt leaves behind a fair amount of build up -- I can feel it when I run my fingers through my hair. That said, though, I've found the problem of second-day dull, frizziness is nothing Paul Mitchell's Super Skinny Serum can't fix; not sure about the ideological soundness of solving product buildup with more product, but in my experience, a nice, thorough wash can absolve a world of hair sins.

It should also be noted that my issues with this product are not big enough to stop me from using or buying it again, because there are times when I really need the service it provides -- for instance, right now I just got out of the shower and I NEED my hair to look decent in a few hours and can't afford to wait for it to fix itself my tomorrow morning, in which case, Silky Dirt really does the trick.

I have short, thick hair that's dyed and wouldn't think of attempting to style my hair without this stuff. I loved the original Dirt and didn't think it could get any better but then Jonathan came put with this product, which I like even more A little bit of this lasts all day in my hair, all I need to do is fluff it up a bit once in a great while and my hair falls back into its (tousled) place once again. I am very picky about what I put in my hair but Silky Dirt is the best styling product that I have tried, period. My only (minor) complaint: the smell is rather strong...but it fades after a bit, and has never clashed with my perfume.

I had very high hopes for this product when I asked my friend to pick it up for me at Sephora on a trip. But when I got it, it left my thick long wavy hair w/ greasy weighed down clumps. It is very thick and hard to spread even if you emullsify it beforehand. I could see this doing wonders on shorter pixie cuts and men but it just isn't very good on longer hair. I will not be repurchasing.

My Hair - Short pixie cut. Straight hair. Hair texture is fine, not heavy. Many cowlicks and naturally spiky at this length.

Product - Straight from the tube, this is a smooth, off-white creme, not runny but not thick either. A little goes a long way. The key is to emulsify this before applying. I take a dime-size blob and work it between my fingertips until they look greased up :) Then I apply to dry or damp hair with fingertips to chunks that need a little more control and then rub what's left over the rest of my hair. For my hair, this keep the cowlicks down and transforms unruly spikes into soft manageable hair that lays down. The best part is, in the morning it keeps me from looking like Alfalfa of the Little Rascals! Apply to wet hair and it isn't nearly as effective. Can be reworked lightly with damp hands at midday. Light aroma - maybe like the icing on cinnamon buns from a distance?

Packaging - Ideal: stand-up tube with fliptop cap and see-through body except the graphics.

Price - $28 for 3.35 oz / 100 mL. This is about three times more expensive by weight when compared to my previous fave, Paul Mitchell Wax Works, which runs $9.95 for the same size. But, I also use about a third less per application, so I guess it evens out :)

Overall - For short hair, it is best suited for day-after hairstyles, taming cowlicks, and preventing flyaways. Best when applied to dry or lightly damp hair. Silky Dirt works very well for my needs, and my DH requested that I continue using this. Possibly HG!

I wish i had discovered this product sooner. I love everything about it, it gives great hold without making my hair sticky or oily looking. I have very thick long hair and this is now the only hair product i use, i don't even use hairspray anymore. I use it both on damp hair or dry hair with different results. I find if i use it on my hair and fringe when damp and let it air dry it gives me great hold and i don't need to blow dry my fringe in place and it gives me great waves which usually drop when my hair dries.
If i use this on my hair when its dry, it gives me great texture and definition.
its a shame this isn't available in australia but i have been able to purchase it off the internet.

I really wanted to like this product and couldn't wait until my order came but I'm so disappointed with it now.

My hair is high lift colored blonde, has a bit of curl and is fairly thick and past my shoulders so I thought that Silky Dirt would be a good choice for that tousled look.

I applied it as directed and even tried some ideas of my own and I only wound up with hair that feels coated. The scent of the product is awful, it's not an almond scent as some members suggested. And applying it to damp hair only makes the scent last longer.
Plus the packaging is terrible it's so difficult to get the cream out of the tube.

I am going got try it for a couple of more days but I don't think it will ever live up to my expectations. Sorry Silky dirt, the romance didn't last.

I bought this hoping it would tame my thick unruly waves. It is a ultra thick cream which smells really sweet like almond cake. It is really hard to apply evenly, becuase it is so thick, even if you emulsify it first. It left my me w/ greasy limp chunks, and my hair felt sticky and coated all day. I will try this product again, because I shelled out so much for it but I don't hold high hopes.

Wow, do I not like this product! The smell immediately got to me. I don't like super-scented products (other than perfume), and I hate cherry smells, so this was a double-whammy. I used a tiny amount, emulsified it, then ran my palms through the ends of my towel-dried hair. knew right away blow-drying that I was going to have a problem on my hands, my normally tangle-free and soft hair was sticky and not drying. When I finished, it looked like I hadn't washed my hair in a month. I wanted to like this product, so I tried 2 more times but no success. Thankfully I was only using a sample.

I really like this product alot. i was looking for a pomade or a texturizer that had more natural ingredients in it and i found it! i like the smell i like how you can just squeeze the tube and that its not in a jar. i like how you can mold the texture but it will stay how you put it, great for layers. LOVE IT

This stuff worked great for me. I have fine, oily, straight hair, but I have a lot of it that is between chin and shoulder length. I used about a quarter of a pea sized, emulsified it in my hands and ran it through my ends first until it was mostly gone then went through from root to tip. My hair is even softer than it used to be and has a nice amount of texture. I took off one lippie for the smell which is REALLY strong, but not unbearable. To me it smells like a My Little Pony or one of those Cupcake Dolls I used to have when I was small. The smell is still in my hair after 6 hours but I can only smell it now if I stick my hair by my nose.
I have also put a little of this on my second day hair and it pieced it out to make a cute ponytail. Or if I put it on my hair when clean, then next day I can get that cute piecey ponytail.
All in all, I really like the product. I use so little it will be a while before I will have to repurchase, but once that happens I'll be looking for more! :o)

Update: I finally used up my sample sized tube and have repurchased a full size. Love it!
