This is the best-smelling shampoo I have ever used. I don't think I see a reason to use any other shampoo. At the beginning of September, I got a jumbo bottle of this at Target, and about two weeks ago I noticed that the winter weather has been making my hair drier, and so the shampoo was becoming a little too stripping. So I went to CVS and bought a normal sized bottle of the 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner, and mixed it into the jumbo bottle of shampoo I had left. The result? Amazing smelling, just hydrating enough without buildup shampoo. I can't comment on its color-retaining abilities, since I don't have dyed hair (yes, I bought this solely for the fragrance) but my hair is as low-maintenance as it gets, so this is perfect.

Another fantastic smelling shampoo. I have naturally wavy hair but it seems to tolerate sulfates ok without making it too frizzy as long as it's not an overly stripping shampoo. My hair is: fine, naturally wavy, color treated blonde, occasionally highlighted, in a bob that comes to the base of my neck. This cleans very well and leaves my hair bouncy, shiny and smelling great. The shampoo isn't conditioning by any means, but I don't think it overstrips. My color isn't fading any less but not any faster than it normally does. I am glad it doesn't leave my hair, flat, greasy or waxy like Pantene tends to do. The main draw here is the 1)fantastic smell 2) great cleaning and easy rinsing without overdrying. If you need a moisturizing shampoo for your hair this isn't it.

I would continue buying this based on the scent alone (I recently bought a jumbo size of it for $5) - it is sooooo nice.

OK, but as for the shampoo aspect...I don't think it would be too good for coloured hair as it does contain 2 sulfates near the beginning of the list. However, this shampoo does leave my hair clean, not stripped, kinda soft and tangle-free...and it makes my bathroom smell amazing!

This is a good product for its purpose. It's gentle enough that I don't notice any fading, compared to if I weren't using it. However, it is much too drying; even with my favourite conditioner, and not washing my hair for like 6 days, it was still dried out. It's gentle enough that it doesn't wash out hair colour, but not gentle enough to not strip your hair of oil. Agggh. Nice subtle smell, though.

This shampoo made my hair dry, tangled and I think I lost some color using it. I would not use this again. Like others said, it made my long hair sqeaky clean but frizzy and fragile.

Color me UNhappy. You couldn't pay me to touch this stuff ever again! While it smelled lovely and made my hair feel rather soft, it caused me to break out literally EVERYWHERE this shampoo came in contact with my skin! My hairline, temples, behind my ears, back of my neck and even my shoulders broke out after using this shampoo! These are not places I normally break out, so I really can't call it a coincindence. I've used many different shampoos and have never had a reaction like this. All in all, I'm likely to run away screaming anytime someone mentions Herbal Essences in front of me from this point on >_<

overall i like this product. its nothing special, but its alright. doesn't damage my hair or dry it out like many other shampoos that i have used in the past.

however, like i've said before, its nothing special; it hasnt done any wonders for my hair.

its a good shampoo for its price.

I found that if you balance your shampoos, your hair will never been too dry or too greasy.. I don't use this everyday, just a few times a week, I was using garnier fructis for a while, and it started leaving a build up (that shampoo is only good if your hair is starting to feel dry), and most "opaque" shampoos can do that. Usually clear shampoos like color me happy clean the hair. Anyways, the fructis was no longer rinsing clean, so I used this, and it got rid of all the build up. My hair is not freshly dyed, but I don't notice my color fading faster then usual. This stuff works especially well with a deep conditioning masque (I tried it with the garnier fructis color shield 3 minnute masque, its better then their shampoos) . Did I mention that it smells amazing? Definitly keep this in your shower to undo the greesies from shampoos and products..

Since I'm tired of spending $10-$15 for a tiny bottle of salon product, I've started trying various drugstore brands, and this shampoo & conditioner set was first on the list. For the record, my hair is short, color-treated, thick, wavy, very coarse, and with a tendency to be dry. So... I really need something that will retain color, while adding hydration and controlling frizz. I love the scent of this shampoo, very refreshing and it does linger. The shampoo lathers well and cleanses really well - almost too well, as another reviewer noted. It leaves my hair feeling stripped. I use the matching conditioner afterwards, which is very thick and rich, and upon rinsing my hair feels amazingly soft, fine, and smooth. I haven't noticed any major color fade (like with Garnier shampoos). My take is that the shampoo is harsh, but the conditioner makes up for it. I've only been using the combo for about 2 weeks and so far I like it, but I fear it will end up drying my hair too much to continue using. Still, for the price, I'll probably repurchase.

I bought this shampoo after hennaing my hair (before I realized you can use any shampoo with body art quality henna) and was disappointed. This pink shampoo lathered well, but left my hair coated and looking. awful, dirty and lacking shine. Clairol did e-mail me to tell me that this shampoo is the closest in scent to their original green herbal essence shampoo from the 60s- 90s which I was inquiring the company about. I don't see the similarity in scent, but others who are looking for the original shampoo might be interested this info. Overall, a mediocre shampoo that did not work for me.

I wanted to love this. It smells wonderful, the color and packaging are adorable, and even the name "Color Me Happy" is cute.
Once the shower filled up with that undeniable fragrance, I thought I'd found my best hair product ever. Then I rinse out the shampoo and my fine, shoulder-length, colored red hair feels coarse and tangly. But to give it some credit, also very clean. Maybe too clean.
Ok, so pour on the conditioner and hope to god it detangles. Yes, it does, and my hair feels like hair again.
Style as usual, and I've got shiny, nice-smelling, yet very FLAT hair. With static and flyaways galore.
I've tried different amounts of conditioner, but if I don't use enough, I end up ripping out my hair trying to comb through it later (even with a spray detangler), or end up with flat, stuck-to-my-head hair. There is no happy medium here.
I could probably live with it if it helped my color last longer. I know reds are near impossible to keep from fading, but this actually stripped color from my hair. My freshly-colored roots are now uneven and blotchy, and all of my hair has turned brassy.
So disappointed that it doesn't work for my hair. But it does make a nice smelling body wash, which is how I will use up the rest of this bottle.

I agree that this shampoo (as well as the matching conditioner) smell fantastic, however this drys my hair out considerably. After using both the shampoo and the conditioner together, my hair is so dry and it's hard to pull my brush through. If you have colored hair and it's a little on the oily side, this might work for you, but my hair is a little dry and this just makes it worse.

Let me start of by saying this shampoo smells amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everytime I go to P.E and we sit for a while this girl always tells me my hair smells great! This leaves my hair smelling great and the conditioner leaves my hair super soft but also a little limp since my hair is naturally wavy, but overall I definitely recommend this product to anyone!

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I don't color my hair or anything so I can't speak for myself in that sense, but my mom uses it (and she does color her hair) and it works great! Adding another lippie! LOL

Overall this is a pretty good product, but I gave it a 3 because I do find that it dries out my hair quite a bit. I have to question why they would use such a strong shampoo if they are marketing to people with coloured hair who want to keep their hair colour, not wash it away. I find that this product is maybe even harsher than the Neutrogena Anti-Residue shampoo (which is strong, but GREAT for cleaning build-up and greasy hair).

I chose to rate this a three (and not less) because it does clean extremely well, it smells amazing, and I love the new packaging. Also, it adds volume to my hair, which I love. I recommend it, but use with caution... use it as a weekly deep-cleaning shampoo. It does NOT seem to be a colour-protecting shampoo!

Although I love the smell of this product, and it does clean extremely well, I don't think I'll buy it again until my natural hair colour grows back in... then maybe my hair could handle it without getting dried out and frizzy.

I LOVE this shampoo! I'm a shampoo junkie (i use like 20 at a time and am always getting new ones) and its the only one ive bought consistently over and over again since i was little.
(i have a theory thateven though they changed the packaging, this particular line is the same as the pink color treated one from before...the ingredients lists/ smell are identical!)
i LOVE the smell, the way it makes my hair feel, and how my hair that normally gets oily after one day stays clean and fresh for two!!
I LOVE color me happy!

I'm so used to having my hair feel like straw after coloring it (either at home or at a salon), so I didn't expect much from Color Me Happy since I usually use Redken Color Extend. I was pleasantly surprised that Color Me Happy did NOT leave my hair feeling like straw! My hair is actually soft and shiny. I'm sure Redken Fuel Recharge which I use after styling helps a lot, but I give credit to Color Me Happy, too. It cleans my oily roots and leaves my hair ready to absorb the matching conditioner.

My hairtype: bottom half bleached and dyed red. wavy hair, oily roots. needs to be washed every day or every other day. bleached part is somewhat damaged from so much dying.
anywaaays...

so you see my situation, i dye my hair pretty often. usually bright unnatural colors which never stay in long enough!! :(
i tried this shampoo for about 3 months.

pros:
-made my wavy hair VERY soft and silky (though it didnt help the damage of my bleached hair as much).

-smells awesome! made my hair look nice and shiny.

- cleaned my oily roots very well.

cons: didnt seem to help my color stay in longer.
and that's pretty much what i bought it for...

hence, i would not count on this for protecting your hair color, but if you'd like very soft hair, this is the shampoo for you.

I am in love with the whole new Herbal Essences line. I bought this and the conditioner. I like them, but I am not in love with them. I also have used None of Your Frizziness, Breaks Over and Hello Hydration, and I love all three of those more than I love this. This does not provide enough moisture against my dry hair and split ends. It's a good set, but not for me.
