I really didn't expect much from this stuff. I had been using Acne Free from Costco and Proactiv before that. But my skin was like an oil slick within hours of washing. It was embarrassing to have oily, acne prone skin at 30, especially when I had clear, mostly dry skin earlier in my life. I stopped using the Acne Free and just washing with Dove for Sensitive Skin and then applying this lotion. My skin is no longer greasy, and I don't have any breakouts! I've been using this for two weeks with great success. I'm very happy with it. My face has flaked a bit, but it's a small price to pay for smaller pores and no breakouts. This is way cheaper than Acne free. It's also a time saver because it's less steps and no annoying bleacking from the benzoyl peroxide, so this is definitely great!
**Edit, it stopped working for me. I felt like after a few weeks that my skin started breaking out again and oily skin returned.

Neutrogena has always been one of my favorite brands, but this product is truly a winner. I have somewhat breakout-pone skin with lots of redness in my cheeks. I recently got fed up with all the products I'd been using and decided to stick to this nice, gentle lotion. The 2% BHA is just enough to keep my pores clear and my skin calm. BHA is also an anti-inflammatory, so I'm using it in hopes of staving off the redness. It seems to be working! I've been using it twice a day (morning and night) for about 3-4 weeks and it's improved the quality and look of my skin immensely. I had used the product previously with good results, but using it twice a day has really kicked things up a notch. The persistent breakouts on my cheekbones have cleared up and the ruddiness has been toned down quite a bit. This really is my HG!

For reference, the rest of my routine:
-Morning: Pond's cleansing cloth or rinse with water, apply Rapid Clear, wait a few minutes, apply either Laura Mercier Oil-Free TM (SPF 20) or Everyday Minerals matte
-Evening: pre-cleanse with jojoba oil, then rinse off with Cetaphil for Normal/Oily skin. Let dry for a few minutes (while brushing my teeth), then apply Rapid Clear. If I'm still awake a half hour later, I'll slap on some CeRaVe lotion. Otherwise, the Rapid Clear is moisturizing enough for overnight.

EDIT: My routine has changed quite a bit since that review. When Neutrogena introduced the Acne Stress Control line, I tried the moisturizing treatment and really loved it. However, now that the weather is a bit more dry, I use the stress control at night and the rapid clear in the AM. They work well together :)

This lotion is too heavy and began breaking me out pretty bad after only a few uses.

I had a nasty breakout at the beginning of December. This does not work miracles in 8 hours. However, it makes my skin softer and hurt less in 8 hours.
Slowly, but surely, about 6 weeks later, my skin has really cleared up. Now, 3 months later, I think my skin looks better than it ever has-- nearly perfect. Plus, I use this twice a day and it keeps my skin from getting dry and flaky.
I highly recommend this and I will continue to use this. Just stick with it to see the results.

I have been using this for a few weeks, since I finished my last stashed bottle of Neutrogena Multi Vitamin Acne Treatment which has been discontinued. I have for the most part gotten control of my hormonal acne using BHA and Retinol, and I use this product to maintain. This has 2% Salyacylic acid, which is more than Neutrogena's other treatments and it is also a moisturizer so I haven't had any skin flaking issues with this.

I first bought this in 8/05 and it worked wonders for my acne-prone skin (moderate acne, then age 25). About 8 months later, my acne returned. Either the formula changed or my skin got used to it - the latter is probably the cause. I liked it while it lasted.

This stuff made my face itchy and didn't clear me up at all. Plus it was pretty expensive for a drugstore product. Very disappointing.

I bought this after Neutrogena discontinued their Clear Pore stuff (which I LOVED). I can't say the same for this lotion. The first time I used it my skin felt dry and itchy. I've tried using this again just when I break out, but it doesn't seem to do any "rapid clear"-ing. I'm sticking to Benefit's Boo Boo Zap.

Neutrogena Rapid Clear Acne Defense Face Lotion claims to reduce full face acne severity, pimple size, pimple swelling, and pimple redness in 8 hours. I finished the entire tube applying it every morning on clean skin, and then waiting several minutes before applying my sunscreen. The directions say to build up to 3 applications a day, which I couldn't do because at night, I use a Rx retinoid. However, I never noticed any difference in my skin after 8 hours as promised anyway, so I doubt applying it 3 times a day would have made any difference. It didn't prevent new breakouts either. The one claim that it did live up to was that it left my skin soft, which is the same as any moisturizer though.

I am 25. My skin was perfect until my hormones changed. I couldn't find anything to help. I use this lotion all the time. So much so that i switched my entire brand of beauty products to Neutrogena. It helps with redness. It clears break-outs to a certian extent. Sometime we forget the is no true 'miracle cure.' This stuff is close. I use it at night, in the morning there is a difference. It can be drying so use sparingly. I hve never got these results from a lotion. I am pleased. I have been using it for almost a year.

Another rave for this lotion. It has helped clear up most of my small pimples, although it doesn't do anything to the cystic ones, although nothing does except antibiotics it seems. But I used this lotion on my chest and back and they are looking better. I use it on my face in the morning as well. I got a little bit of purging at first but not bad at all. I took off one lippie because it advertises that it will diminish a zit in 8 hours, which is not always the case. I used it for several days before I saw an improvement. Maybe it works faster for some people. I used it as a spot treatment several times a day on a few zits and they cleared up without getting dry and scaly, so that was good. I think this will be good for continued use for keeping my skin clearer.

I bought this to alternate with Neutrogena Healthy Face lotion for sensitive skin. It works alright, but I haven't noticed much of a difference on my skin.
It may possibly have helped a bit with blackheads, but nothing like AHA from the healthy face lotion. I'm just not getting the same results with the BHA.

My new staple! I had a bad breakout right before leaving for Thanksgiving and was so depressed. I bought this the night before we left. The moment I used it, my breakouts felt soothed and under control and my face slowly improved all week. It's the best BHA and the best acne medication I've used thus far. (and I've used MANY) The only essential for me is that I have to wash my face at night before bed (use this twice a day) or my face continues to have very mild clogged pores and and occasional new blemish. If I wash and use this twice a day, my face stays in control with minimal issues. I will not be without this going forward. It's a really great formula!! Worth the $6 to try it out!

Quite simply the best ph balanced bha lotion on the market!! I use this religiously two to three times a day and I have not had a bad cystic acne breakouts for ages. Also a bonus of this product is that old acne scars have faded and my skin is less prone to redness. My absolute HG moisturiser and Acne treatment in one.

UPDATE 11/13/06: OK, so it's been over a week and this just isn't for DD ...breakout, clog-city. Thumbs down. Just bought this yesterday for DD after her awful experience w/ PC's 2% liquid BHA. Will update after she's used it for awhile. Just wish it wasn't fragranced.

I'm surprised that I haven't already reviewed this product. I've been using this lotion for several months to clear up some acne and help slough off flakey skin caused by tretinoin. I absolutely love, love, love it. I started out using the lotion twice a day, but it was too drying, so now I only use it at night unless I have actual blemishes on my skin. I haven't had a serious break out since I started using it and my skin looks great. The price is also great: I paid about $5 at Ulta.

I kinda hate writing reviews for products I love because I'm superstitious, and I always worry that they'll stop working on me after i give a glowing recommendation. but i just love this stuff. i think its kinda like my 'fall-back' product....because whenever my skin goes hay-wire, i turn to it, and it never disappoints. within a day my breakout will be smaller and less enflamed. i love that it doesn't dry my skin out, and it just seems like it helps exfoliate it overall. i think i have gone through like 3 or 4 tubes of this stuff already! its just so gentle while doing a great job of cleaning out your pores. SO much better than using benzoyl peroxide, which i feel basically damaged my skin, and now i'm paying for it! If you struggle with breakouts give this one a try! it really works!

EDIT: This seems to work as a one time fix but i have been having alot of breakouts lately and tried using this daily thinking that my breakouts would subside, but i think theres something in this that my skin can't handle. I started getting more congested. Plus the smell of this is horrible.
