For some reason, this oil mixes with my pheromones to make me smell like .... hair spray. Right hand to God, it smells like Aqua Net on me. Blast! I was hoping for an earthy scent, and I come out smelling like Flo's House of Beauty! I'll stick to Vanilla, I reckon.

Since this is supposedly a cult fav I hoofed over to the Kiehl's store in lower Manhattan to give it a try. The SA was kind enough to make me a cute screw-top teeny glass vial to test at home. This review is for Kiehl's Musk oil, labeled "original" formula. I don't know if the reviews below are for a newer version, but I suspect they are.

This "original" musk smells very rich and organic. Makes me think of the smell of damp earth, antique pottery, its incensey, and animalic. It seems to be something patchouli fans would like. Its not the clean, powdery, soapy type of musk in other musks I've tried, but rather more full-bodied and (to me) stinkier. Its not for me, but I can imagine my cousin, who is into Indian print gauzy skirts, tapestries, and Grateful Dead would like it. If you are a musk fan I would try it, the price is great and Kiehl's customer service is terrific.

I love this and get compliments when I wear it. I especially like the lotion. A clean, feminine musk scent that lasts and lasts. It is not pure musk, but has some slight white floral notes I think. It manages to be clean, without feeling synthetic.

A wonderful scent that elicits compliments such as "clean," "fresh," "oh, you smell so good," “what are you wearing?” -- “what is it called and where can I buy it?” It is not a long-lasting scent but it is also not an expensive scent. I relish the memories that greet me each time that I open the bottle and smell Kiehl's Musk, which provides a new meaning for the Jim Croce song, “Time in a Bottle.”

Kiehls is my favorite musk oil: Plain, simple, nothing added to ruin it. It has stayed the same through the years, and is one that you can rely on.

This oil can be easily overapplied, however it doesn't last very long on me. It has to be reapplied throughout the day. Even with that, a ½ oz bottle lasts a long time.

This is a very nostalgic scent for Gen-Xers. Men and women my age seem to really like this stuff! They usually say something to the effect of it bringing back memories of high school, or their childhood in some way.I always have a bottle of this rolling around in my purse!

As others have said, this is a standby product for me. I have worn it for years alone or layered with other scents, which tends to work very well. It is a clean, elegant, subtle musk, not cloying or overbearing, with good staying power. Highly recommended! UPDATE: I wore this today and quickly realized I overapplied. As with any fragrance, too much of this can definitely be a bad thing. ;-)

This is the only fragrance I have worn in 12 years - and on me it smells very subtle and warm and earthy. What I have noticed over the years is that it smells really different on everyone - and some not so good! Men seem to like it a lot.

Wow, I smell Kiehl's Musk and I'm transported back to a 7th grade dance in the school gymnasium. And I don't mean that in a good way. This stuff smells like my old junior high boyfriends. It is sooo 1970s--don't get me wrong, I LOVE the 70s--but it's just really earthy and heavy and TOO much. Even my husband hates it, and he loves hippie chicks. Sorry, I wanted to like this one but it's a complete miss for me.

I guess I'm in the minority here...I think this stuff smells just awful! I just received a bottle here at work and I made the mistake of putting a little on...it's all I can do to not take off for home to shower this smell off of myself. I hate it. It smells "rotten" to me...almost like my grandmother's perfume that has been sitting on her vanity since 1935. Nothing nice about it all, especially when you first put it on. I will be returning immediately. **UPDATE as the day wears on** Oh my god do I hate this. My best friend could smell it on me and she was afraid to ask me what it was that smelled so "cheap" and bad. Need I say more?

I am still on the fence with this scent. On one hand, the staying power is awesome--I wish all of my perfumes lasted 1 1/2 to 2 days. Seriously, the day after I wore this, I wore a different perfume, and by the end of that day ,I could not smell the one I had put on that morning, I could only smell the remnants of the Musk oil from the day before. This, to my nose, is a true musk, which may be the reason I am a little unsure about it---it's not as clean maybe as I like these type of scents. It is more of a weekend kind of scent, very no-frills, uncomplicated, like for wearing t-shirts and jeans. I am going to try the Coriander next, maybe it will more to my liking.

No fancy package, but what lovely contents! I haven't used musk oil in an eternity but decided to give this one a try after sampling it.
I really love it, warm, clean and long lasting. Not a heavy musk fragrance at all. I will definitely keep this one in my collection for those days I want to feel "natural"!

Kiehl's Musk Essential Oil smells amazing. I am a huge MUSK fan and this is my fave so far...have also used good ol' Bonne Belle Skin and the Body Shop White Musk. The Kiehl's lasts longer and smells better than BB and B. Shop, IMO. A must buy if you like musk !!!

Wow, great musk! A bit powdery (which I don't mind) and a bit masculine, if those two can be in the same fragrance. I love it. And, it lasts on me a long time.

i love this musk. it's very concentrated and long-lasting, however, not overpowering. the scent reminds me of jr. high, but a bit more sophisticated.

on me this starts out very animalic-carnal ( a good thing)...and gets deeper and warmer (if that's possible) for a while...and then slowly evolves into a clean-skin scent...the whole thing being very sexy and anything but innocent. *and* the best value for the buck around

I just received this, and really like it....like the other reviewer mentioned, it does start out a bit powdery, but then becomes just a good, warm, clean scent. It has good lasting power, and I would imagine you could wear it anywhere. If you like musk, this one is a guaranteed good buy.
