Okay, I'm torn with this. I have sensitive, acne prone skin. I am using the kit for almost one week, but I've already tweaked it and may tweak some more. I was using all 4 pieces twice a day. Hope in A Jar is too oily for me during the day under makeup, so I'm thinking of just using it at night. I love the cleanser and the serum, and I even called Philosophy to see if I could use the serum w/out moisturizer and they said yes. She recommended Hope in A Bottle to me over serum, but I plan to try and use Hope In A Jar sometimes during the day, and sometimes at night. I also may try and use the Oxygen Peel over the Microdelivery Peel, as the Oxygen peel is more recommended for my skin type. I did use the Microdelivery Peel and love it, though. Great results.
I also use Duac from the dermatologist. I was going to stop using it, but I plan to use it every other night and see how I do. Since that is very drying, the HIAJ might be very good for my skin, and despite what others say, you CAN use it sparingly if you breakout. As for the smell, it's fine. I don't get all the drama about the "horrid" smell. This is one review I will be updating. I am breaking out a little, but I think I'm purging. I must say that the tone is better after only a week. UPDATE: THIS IS GOING BACK TO SEPHORA TOMORROW. I HAVE HORRENDOUS BUMPS ALL OVER MY FOREHEAD AND I CAN'T USE THIS STUFF ALL TOGETHER.

Awesome, just awesome. I purchased the MO skincare kit after reading all of the positive reviews on here and it's been just as promised. My skin looks great. The dull winter cast it sometimes gets is gone. I definitely look like I do after an expensive salon exfoliating facial.
I was actually a bit worried when I purchased the kit that it would be too harsh for my skin as I have very fair pinkish skin, but I can honestly say that my skintone is more even and my blackheads on my nose are much less noticable.
Before I review these, it's important to note that I've only used them as a kit-- I have no idea how they work alone. Purity Made Simple, the cleanser, is a bit unusual when you first try it. It almost feels slightly oily. That said, it melts makeup and mascara right off. The next step is the serum. I don't understand how some people manage to get the 5-6 drops it recommends to cover their face, neck and chest. Maybe they're using more? It has a pleasant lavender-y smell and provides a great base for the moisturizer. The moisturizer has the same lavender smell. I find both of them absorb at a reasonable rate but not instantaniously. The eye cream is a total winner-- very rich. If you're looking for a light cream, this isn't it.
I use the kit each night and I use the cleanser and the eye cream again in the AM. I switch to Olay Complete Moisturizer for the daytime, though. Unlike these products, it has a good wide spectrum sunscreen in it. I can't imagine using an SPF free moisturizer during the day.
I use the peel once a week. The first time I used it, I didn't use enough to get the foaming action. You really need to use about half of one of each of the two little sample packets each time to get good coverage.
Highly recommended, will repurchase.

I absolutely LOVE this kit. I'd never used Philosophy products because a previous acquaintance said Philosophy products weren't very good and I'd taken her word for it. I ran across this kit while browsing in the new Sephora in Tampa and thought I'd give it a try. 4 regular-size products, plus 3 microdelivery peel samples all for only $68 was a price worth trying the line for. Boy, do I wish I'd been using this combination of products for the past 2 years instead of the past 5 months. I'm on my second kit - using it morning and night, so each kit lasts about 3 months. Purity is my HG cleanser - makeup just melts off and I don't have to over-rub my mascara off. Plus, it rinses off well without rubbing. When Hope Is Not Enough lifting/firming serum has made a dramatic difference in my skin tone. Hope in a Tube has definitely softened the tiny lines around my eyes; plus, I'm still using the tube from the first kit because it's so rich that you don't need but a small dab. Hope in a Jar is the best moisturizer I've ever used, and I've tried Clarins, Lancome, Clinique, etc. I don't have to use very much and it absorbs into my skin quickly. My skin feels so soft. The microdelivery peel is extraordinary! My skin looks like I've just had a salon facial after using this product. I'm 48 years old with normal skin that's somewhat sun damaged. This product kit has achived for my skin what would have taken multiple expensive trips to the salon or dermatologist for peels and microdermabrasion to do.

I liked this kit initially, but from 2 weeks on I noticed that my skin became unusually oily especially around my forehead. Yuck. I can't even pinpoint which of the products caused it since I'll have to eliminate one product at a time, etc. Also, no SPF is a downer for me. The Microdelivery Peel samples were much better. I won't be buying this kit again. If there's anything that I would consider buying it's the hope in a jar moisturizer and nothing else.

Wow...I agree with everyone that these products are great. I bought the 4 piece kit from an infomercial (the first infomercial that ever sold me)
I am 45 years old, with combination skin, some sun damage, large pores, etc. I was never complimented on my skin until I started using these products. These products along with a vitamin C cream have shrunk my pores to the point where I no longer feel the need to go for facials. I have a nice healthy glow and although I have had a few small breakouts from Hope in a Jar, the benefits far outweigh the negatives. My favorite product is "When Hope Isn't Enough" Syrum. I don't know what ingredient this product has that my skin is lacking, but my face craves this stuff. I also love the eye cream although it burns terribly if you get any in your eyes. I just can't believe that people are complimenting my skin. That's enough for me to continue the regimen.

I have the 6 piece kit from philosophygirl.com and I'm absolutely loving it. I wasn't going to get the whole set, because I was actually quite happy with my current skincare products. I just really wanted to try the microdelivery peel, but it was only $25 more for the whole set, plus a free bottle of perfume, so I went ahead and ordered it. I used the new products for a few days to try them out so I could return them if I didn't like them. They seemed fine, so I switched back to my usual stuff, thinking I would just use it up and then switch back to the Makeup Optional kit. Well, after a day and a half of my old products I went back to the Philosophy products. I thought my skin seemed better while using it (after just a few days), but I didn't really notice how much better until I went back to my regular routine and my skin wasn't as nice. Not nearly as smooth or "glowy". I'm a convert and I'm so glad I went ahead and bought the whole she-bang instead of just the Microdelivery Peel. Also, instead of the 1 oz. bottle of perfume, they sent a 2 oz. bottle.

I got the kit from the philosophygirl website with the Microdelivery Peel. I had been debating with myself for months on whether I should try the kit or not. I had loved everything I had tried from Philosophy, but just wasn't sure. Finally, I decided to give it a try and so far I am really pleased. Purity Made Simple is awesome! At first glance to me it was nothing special, but it also didn't break me out, burn my eyes or make my skin super dry. I really like that it removes all of my makeup too. I was sort of hesitant about the When Hope Is Not Enough Serum because I am 21 and don't really have wrinkles or sagging skin, but I wanted to follow the kit so I used it. I really like it, it has made my skin texture smoother and has made a big differenc on my neck and chest area. My skin looks so much more radiant when I use it. I also read that it prevents as well, so that is ok with me. Hope In A Jar is awesome! I tried it awhile back and liked it, but never got around to purchasing it. It gives me just enough moisture and keeps my skin so smooth, I don't think I have had any flakes since I started this kit. I sometimes use Hope In A Bottle, which I already had, at night if I am having problems with pimples and it has worked great. Hope In A Tube is the one I am not so sure about. I have read that it is only supposed to be applied to the outer area of the eye and not under. Also I really don't have any lines around my eyes or lips yet. I wish that it had the option to switch out for the other eye cream that philosophy carries. The Microdelivery Peel is nice, it smells pleasant and is a great exfoliator. It is a great add-on to this kit. Overall, I am very pleased with the kit and plan to continue using it. My skin has definitely improved and the part that thrills me the most is that if I do get a pimple it heals faster and I don't get the dark scar after it is gone like I used to. So glad that I decided to get it and I think that I am going to make Philosophy my main skincare brand.

I'm currently using (and loving) the following philosophy products: purity made simple, when hope is not enough serum, hope in a jar (original formula), hope in a tube (eye and lip cream), and the 2-piece microdelivery peel. I don't think it's easy to review individual product results so I'll review as a whole with comments about the seperate products.
I have "normal" skin for the most part. I'm occasionally oily in the T-zone. I'm not seeing any signs of aging at 33. I'm not sensitive and rarely have any reactions to skincare. My biggest complaint is slightly rough skin texture. I do get a hormonal zit almost every month, but beyond that I have pretty okay skin. Since beginning using the philosophy "makeup optional" products, my skin texture has improved dramatically. My skin is soft and smooth. My pores are less visible and I think I have a bit more of an overall glow.
purity made simple: I think this is the best cleanser I've ever tried. I absolutely love the natural, herbal scent. It melts off all makeup, even mascara, and it doesn't sting my eyes! It doesn't strip or overdry my skin. I just feel clean and soft after washing. Love it! *****
when hope is not enough serum: Stinks! If you can get beyond the awful scent, this serum has a light, non-sticky texture that absorbs quickly. It has anti-oxidants and even a hair growth inhibitor. I'm not sure if my facial hair growth has slowed at all, but I'll keep using for the other benefits. ****
hope in a jar: I love the scent of lavender. If you hate lavender, you may not like this cream. This has a really nice, light, almost whipped texture. It seems to be slightly pearly also which gives a healthy looking finish to skin as applied. It is not a heavy moisturizer. I'm crediting this for smoothing my skin texture. I don't know if this has a proper pH or % of AHA for exfoliation, but I'm happy with the results I'm seeing. *****
hope in a tube: I don't have eye lines or wrinkles so I can't comment of how this affects those issues. It seems to keep my eye area nicely moisturized and I'll continue to use it. ****
microdelivery peel: It's a nice citrus scrub that heats when an activating gel is applied. My skin really looks fresh, glow-y and is super soft after doing this peel. Love it! *****

I am not one to give into informercial hype, especially since I'm such a cheapskate. ;-) But I happened to catch this on TV during a time when my skin was really looking drab and older (I'm recently 42). I decided to take the plunge and try the Philosophy "Makeup Optional" skincare kit.
So far, I am VERY impressed! I've been using this for nearly two weeks. My opinion so far: my skin looks so much clearer, not because I had acne, but because the dullness isn't there. It just looks fresh! I haven't had any trouble w/ milia around the eyes or any other kinds of breakouts. I haven't noticed much fine line reduction, but maybe it's too soon to tell. My complexion is definitely more evened out and feels very smooth!!
My skin is pretty oily, and I was afraid the Hope in a Jar moisturizer would be too heavy. It is not at all. I've loved the cleanser, which cleans my skin completely, yet doesn't leave that stripped tightness. I'm continuing to use the When Hope is Not Enough serum and don't know how it's working yet. It does stink to high heaven and I have to hold my nose until I cover it up with the next step. I really wish it wasn't so hideous. But it sinks into the skin very quickly and leaves no greasy residue, which is great.
Right when I got this, the first thing I used was the Microdelivery Peel. It is simply awesome!! My face felt smooth as glass on the first use. I've used it once more since and still get that smooth-as-glass softness. I believe it has helped buff away some of the uneven tone in my sundamaged, aging skin. I can honestly say that after using these products for nearly 2 weeks, I've used less foundation.
So far, I really love my kit. I think the price (89.00/3 mo) is not bad at all considering what you get. Individually, it would be much more expensive, whether you're purchasing Philosophy or another high-quality line. Plus, I received a full 2oz bottle of Pure Grace, which I fell in love with! It's been worth the plunge for me. I'm happy I did it, and will report back with my progress!

I started using the Make-up Optional kit, with the micro-delivery peel. It's only been two days, but I can't believe the difference in my skin already! I read so many good/bad reviews about all of the products in the kit that I was hesitant to try it. It was time for something new and this kit is GREAT so far! I was looking pretty terrible lately after having spine surgery two months ago to stabilize a fracture from a car accident six years ago. I was starting to look kind of old at 42, and since my husband is ten years younger, I have to work hard to stay ahead of it. The first thing I did when I got it was to open the hope in a jar moisturizer with lactic acid. So many people here at MUA couldn't stand the smell, so I had to smell it. It has a smell, but it's not bad at all, thank God, because it's THE BEST I have ever used. I used the peel right away and my skin looked clearer, and smoother with a nice pink glow right away. I thought the pink glow would go away, but it didn't. My skin actually looks alive again. I saw this on tv, but bought it online at philosophygirl.com. There's no risk to try it because they give you thirty days to get a refund. So far I love it!! The directions say that the real results appear after three weeks, so I'll update then, but this really is worth a try. Edit: 10/01/05- OK this is a miracle for me. I am darn close to being makeup optional now, after not quite three weeks. I can't believe it, and never thought it would happen! I also started using green cream at night (another miracle!!!).

When I ordered this set, I was so excited, since it was a "make up optional" kit, than I wouldn't have to wear so much powder or foundation. I have combo with some minor acne. The first day I used it, my friends said my face was incredibly soft and had a healthy glow. However, after I started using it for about three days, I started to get nasty skin colored bumps around my eyes, than it spread to my forehead and on my cheeks. It did however get rid of my acne as well. I had an allergic reaction. I was so dissapointed and recieved money back. The customer service rep said the reaction was probably from the citrus peel i recieved from the infomercial package. But I have to admit, I bought myself a bottle of Purity Made Simple, and it hasn't done me wrong.

After much consideration, I finally broke down and bought this kit. I was very torn - so completely won over by marketing efforts by Philosophy and confused by MUA reviews on items. It seemed rather conflicting...some people loved the cleanser/peel while others hated moisturizer/eye cream. Well, so far, I'm very happy with it. I have normal to combo skin. Meaning I get oily in the summers, and rather dry in winters. I've used the kit for almost 2 weeks now, and love how my skin is faring. Although I can't say it's "makeup optional" skin now, I feel like there is a glow along with a smooth texture to my skin due to products. I use the cleanser AM and PM...it removes all makeup for me (I wear foundation, eye shadow, blush, etc) so I don't understand reviews mentioning how it doesn't remove makeup). I only use the moisturizer every AM, and the serum every PM. Using both together is too much for my skin. This routine works out perfectly for me, and provides enough moisture for my skin. So far, no milia for me from eye cream. And of course, the scrub is awesome! However, I want to say the scrub I received was a little "defective"....it was kinda in a hard, solid state, which should be more like a sorbet consistency. I think it might have melted and recoagulated during transit. Although I'm afraid Vitamin C effects might have been compromised, the scrub (peel) was still wonderful. I think my experience is proof that it really does depend on your skin type as to how YOUR skin will react to the kit. Yes, the moisturizer stinks to high heaven, but it really depends on your tolerance level (both to the scent and how your skin handles it). I love everything about this kit, and I will update after a month. Edit 9/7 - Okay, HIAJ gave me clogged pores and I really didn't care for the eye cream. However, huge rave for Microdelivery Peel, cleanser, and serum.

Wow, I've been using this kit for about 3 weeks and my skin is in the best shape it's ever been. I have combo skin with a slightly oily T-zone, and I break out at times. My cheeks tend to get dry in the winter. I've tried a lot of product lines and kits and this is by far the best one. The only gripe I have is that it doesn't include a product with SPF for daytime use. But i don't mind since i've included using my Oil of Olay Complete SPF 15, which I recommend, or any other SPF product that already works for you. The kit also includes 3 samples (3 weeks worth) of their Vitamin C microdelivery peel which is recommended once a week (full-size is sold seperately). Overall, all the products in the kit work well together and make my skin really soft, clear, smooth and even-toned. I can honestly say that I can really see a difference. Some friends and family have even commented on my "healthy-looking skin" and have asked what I've been doing differently. As a result several of them have gone out and purchased the kit with the same raves. The kit is a bit pricey ($68), but the regimen is really top-notch. I think I will be sticking to these products from now on. I'll update if there are any changes in my review, but so far so good. UPDATE: I am taking 1 lippie off because I've noticed I started getting clogged pores or milia around my eyes using the Hope in Tube Eye Cream. Since it does contain mineral oil and petroleum I shouldn't be suprised. Probably only good for very dry skins.I'd repurchase everything else in the kit except that product. But I may try other things.

I purchased this kit a week ago and I'm thrilled with the products. My skin feels and looks great. I've reviewed each of the products in the kit separately so I'll just add here that this is a great way to try this line's key skincare products without investing a lot of money. For me every single product included (Purity Made Simple Cleanser, Hope in a Jar, Hope in a Tube, and When Hope is not Enough) was a big hit. I also received generous samples of the peel kit and that product is just awesome.

Philosophy does have great customer service! I ordered the Makeup Optional Skin kit from Philosophy and I too was supposed to receive the 1oz. pure grace-but alas, it was not with my shipment. When I contacted them via email, their response was quick and they too sent me the 2 oz. pure grace. I also love the philosophy products, I will continue to be loyal to the philosophy brand not only because I love the products but also because of their outstanding service. This kit is a great value that included the Microdelivery peel, ifyou considering trying the products, this would be a great way to start.

Just received this today and so far one try.. I love the price and actually really enjoy the smell so far. Why I love this company is the customer service! I was supposed to receive a 1 oz bottle of perfume with my order since I did the philosophygirl.com offer for the kit (Make Up Optional 4 Piece plus Micro Peel kit + free gift when you sign up for the club).. When I got my package the perfume was not there.. so they are mailing me a full 2 oz bottle as an apology! Got to love great customer service! Will post more when I have tried for a couple weeks.

I got this product as an auto delivery from philosophygirl.com. In the kit, you get the makeup optional kit with the peel. The price is just under $90 and you get a "gift" with each delivery. I got my first shipment a couple of weeks ago and have been giving it a try.
Originally, I found the cleanser (purity made simple) to be kinda greasy, like I couldn't wash it all off. I am used to cleansers stripping all of the oils from my face and leaving it tight. I decided that wasn't so bad.
I love the hope in a jar! Very moisturizing, makes my skin feel so soft and smooth. I like the fragrance, but I wish it was a little bit more subtle since I use fragrances and I notice the cream more than my body fragrance.
The serum is nice, also similar scent to hope in a jar. Not sure how much it is helping, but I guess time will tell.
The eye/lip hope in a tube is nice. It makes my lips super soft. I use it around the eyes at least once a day but after in soaks in, I use another eye cream (DHC) to use it up.
I have had a couple of pimples since I started but have noticed how much nicer the texture and color my skin is already in the past 2 weeks. I love touching my face, because it is so soft.
The price is much more reasonable in the philosophygirl website and highly recommend doing it that way since as others have said, you need to use the peel to get the makeup optional skin.
BTW, my freebie was the present clear makeup (full size and value $25) plus samples of all three colognes, amazing grace lotion/3-in-1, cinnamon buns 3-in-1 and a couple other things.
BTW, if you want to change a couple of things around in the kit, you can with a single phone call. You can switch the hope in a jar for hope in a bottle (for acne and oilier skin) and switch the serum for another product (not sure, maybe save me, which is for aging skin).

As of 6/13/05, I have been using the kit (with the serum, not the powder) for 2 weeks. While I wouldn't call my skin make-up optional, it's defintely closer than it was 2 weeks ago! I have a lot of redness in my facial skin (not rosacea though) and it's sensitive, fair and has occasional breakouts.
My skin can get REALLY flaky and red when i get stressed or in the winter months, or when I travel. No flakiness at all since I've been using this kit and the redness is reduced but not gone. I got a compliment on my skin too, which makes me want to keep using this kit:)
It says you need to use it for 3 weeks to see maximum results so it could get even better. I have experienced a few little zits, whiteheads, that i pop and are gone by the next day. I prefer this to my previous skin issues though, so I will keep using the kit. If I remember, I will update this review in a few weeks.
One thing I do not like about Philosophy is that their ingredient list rates pretty high (poorly) on the list of ingredients known to potentially cause cancer and other health problems. It is not organic. I learned all this on a website called ewg.org - in the cosmetic product review section. I am not worried enough to stop using the Make-Up Optional Kit but I may decide to in the future, for reasons unrelated to the effectiveness of the product.
UPDATE: the more research I did on the ingredients led me to stop using this kit...which sucks because it was totally working for me and it was fun to use!! But after reading a lot about the ingredients and their toxicity and dangers, I couldn't continue using it, knowing that some gets absorbed through the skin. Bummer.

I was waffling between many different skincare lines. I believe purchasing "lines" is better because the products are meant to work together. I ordered Philosphy Makeup Optional skincare line over a month ago and I am HOOKED! I am 44 and my skin looks the best it has EVER looked! I don't think it is expensive because you get so many products. The MicroDelivery Peel is included with this kit. Thank goodness! It is the best product I've ever used! I now go out without foundation and I love it! My old breakout scars are actually fading away! Try this line and you'll be so glad you did. I wish I found out years ago.
