I was never much of a rose fan until I started posting on MUA. I soon found myself falling for Stella,FdTRB and 2000 et une Rose by Lancome. I notice that a majority of the scents on my vanity are roses. I admit that I am a fan and have started to seek out new rose fragrances.
One of my latest loves is Une Rose. This is a dark earthy rose scent. According to the malle site Edouard Flechier and Frederic Malle developed a fragrance that was similiar to the scent of a perigord truffle. They originally planned to use this scent as a male fragrance but decided to develop it with a rose accord. Thus une rose was born! The scent is very similiar to when I am working in my rose garden digging and pruning. I was hooked at first sniff.
The notes are geranium essence, blue camomile essence, wine dregs essence, turkish rose absolute DM(Mane),patchouly accord, vetiver and castoreum absolute.
It is not similiar to Voleur de Roses. Voleur has a strong patchouli base while une rose is more dirt mixed with rose petals. I am a fan of both fragrances.
The drydown for une rose was wonderful(lovely roses all day) and lasting power is strong.
This is a great rose scent to add to any collection. 5 lippies!!!

Une rose indeed. The simple name deceives the unsuspecting seeker. Monsieur Malle & Co. fail to mention that, in the olfactory realm, said rose is the size of the Sun! Une rose geante!
This is one Willie Wonkin' Everlasting Gobstopper of a rose!
Yes, the wine and patchouli are in evidence but... *sigh*.. okay..did you see 'Being John Malkovich'? You know the scene when he goes through himself into the all-Malkovich world? This is Roseovich Roseovich Roseovich!
That's my experience of Une Rose today. I blame myself partly since I made the foolish mistake of spraying on my neck *and* back so, I've been particularly afflicted.
All that said, I actually like it! I love the tart tannin of the wine note and the earthy scent of the patchouli and vetiver... even the odd opening aroma (to my nose) of fresh, macerated rose petals and red apple peels(?!).
I guess I also like Une Rose for what it is *not* as well: it doesn't have the air freshener-y, sickly sweet character of oh-so-many rose perfumes. Also, no nostalgia and lace doillies floating around in this one. It is Here & Now & nearly Eternal. I admire the discipline of the composition...it's lush but not sentimental. Rich and powerful but not flashy.
but did I mention it was strong?
The earlier reviewers are right. A tiny, infintessimal drop is more than enough. This one order should last a lifetime. I can't imagine finishing a bottle of this *ever*.
UR can't be treated like your other perfumes. Like Gremlins, Une Rose should come with stern warnings from an ancient, wizened shopkeeper.
If you follow the rules this could be quirky, delightful and even lovable.
If you do not take care, Une rose gets ugly - grows teeth & claws and takes over your life!

I thought that I might like this. I'll pass thank you very much. It would be more aptly named Toxic Rose. I almost immediately tried to remove it, without success. I was still forced to tolerate the drydown, which smells exactly like dried out dusty rose potpourri. I despise potpourri. Smelling it yet again there is something very strange, like bitter chocolate too.

Being a fan of all FM creations so far - Une Rose was something of a letdown - yes very rosy earthy and the truffles lend the earthiness - perhaps - it smells cloying, rose attar like and awful on me - nothing spectacular in my opinion. Again please try before you buy EVEN if you worship roses!!

Une Rose shamelessly rosy, earthy, luxurious, rich grandiose rose scent. This one is not gourmand, but gourmet!

Wow !!! This is not a fragrance for the faint of the heart. Think Ava Gardner, Joan Crawford and a lush veil of scarlet velvet ...
La Rose is a deep, dark rose fragrance that starts as a rose soliflore and develops of a rose-white flower mix, slightly peppery as time goes by. It is one of those fragrances that change continuously and grow more luminous in the dry down.
This is a scent to wear at the opera, for a candle light dīner ...
