I used this item because i had heard such great things about it. I used it and was immediately astounded i LOVED the colour, but to my dismay, after about a week the coulour seemed to have deminished dramatically, i dyed it a dark brown with red high lights, after a very short amount of time it was my natural hair colour with very little of a reddish colour i had died it with. Im not sure what went wrong but i was not pleased with this product. Maybe if the colour did not fade quite as much, I would have been pleased

I had bought this product at my local CVS since it was on sale for $5 in the golden brown color. When I got home, i read all the negative reviews about this hair dye. I was really scared but I gave it a try anyway. Somehow i had a feeling it would turn my hair red or a coppery color but suprisingly, it didnt! From other experiences with hair dye, this is the best stuff! It made my hair soft and shiney. It has only been one day but I am pretty pleased with the overall product! I think it only works well with certain hair colors. So if you have dark hair, dont go light.

I have virgin hair and was hoping to get a nice, soft color so I choose to do it at home (this isn't my first time btw). I followed the instructions to the tee and didn't get the colour I wanted. Indoors my hair still looks really black, outside there's a whisper of a dark reddish brown, so I suppose as long as I'm outside it'll look like I did something with my hair. It could also be because I only used one box and my hair reaches below my breasts, but I don't think there would have been much of a difference even if I had used two boxes. As a side note, the colour I had chosen had a golden brown base but somehow the result looks like a reddish brown instead, I'm not complaining, but I find it weird that it's even reddish to begin with!

Nothing spectacular about this hair coloring. It faded really easily.

Compared with other brands I have tried (Preference and Natural Match) this definitely has some benefits that other brands don't have, but unfortunately those benefits come at a trade off. The dye is fairly gentle (it's not terribly drying) while at the same time delivering great color that is true to the box. However within two weeks my roots have already faded, the rest of my hair is still holding on to the color well, which is strange since I've never experienced fade out happening like this before. I don't think I'd buy this again unless on sale.

I bought this in Blue black, envisioning deep shiny raven hair on my head. Ive tried many black hair dyes, from Natural Match to Nutrisse and Nice n Easy, however none gave me the jet-black that I wanted. Ive eyed this product on the shelves for a while, but the model's hair looked so blue and dramatic! But I went out and bought it today, realizing that regular black didn't give me the depth I wanted. The results? It didn't quite meet my expectations. My hair didn't have that "blue" tint that I wanted, though the black was deeper than the other brands. It wasn't as ravishing and head-turning as hoped for. However, when I compared my color with my friend's, who also has black hair, I realized that mine was much richer! Though it still didn't look like the model on the box. Oh well, I have yet to find the black color that I fall in love with!

Not impressed. I did Mahogany Brown, an auburn, and got hot roots. My roots are magenta-ish now. The rest of my hair is actually a good looking dark red. If I hadn't had quite so much virgin grow-out, it might not look as bad as it does. Having said that, this could be the most drying hair color I've tried. The conditioner is nice, and helps, but this left the ends of my already fragile hair feeling like straw.
The application was quick and easy, the amount was generous enough for long hair and the smell wasn't bad. This hair color just doesn't perform.

I'm hooked...have given up on uber expensive salon reds...Garnier does just as well.

An unmitigated disaster. I used the Golden Brown color in the Ultra-Lift Browns ("One step lightening. No brass.") series on dark brown hair. The color I actually got was pure light orange. No brass my *ss! :-)
Now I'm going to have to go to get this professionally fixed at great expense.

Wrecked my hair AND this is the SECOND Garnier product I've had an allergic reaction to (the first one was a face product) so needless to say, I will not be trying anything else from this entire line.
I used a dark brown color on my naturally brown hair and ended up with orange-ish areas all over the top layers of hair. I had to go to Sally's and buy a medium brown color with a blue base to get rid of it.
BUT, the week I waited before fixing it with the Sally's product, I could not believe how dried out my hair was. I had to use a deep conditioner prior to fixing the color.
This product sucks.

I felt like a change so I bought this in "dark golden brown". My hair is a dark brown black. Anyhow, after my hair dried the ends of my hair looked almost the same exact color. Subtle difference. But the roots of my hair looked bright & maybe a golden color. I really did NOT like the look. It was too light for what I'm used to. So the next day I washed my hair & viola I am impressed w/ the color now. The washing toned down the golden color to a med/dark brown color. I like it but I don't think this brand is for me. I will stick natural match 3w. Oh and the application was so easy. NO DRIPPY MESS ANYWHERE. Not on my sink, shirt, floor. Only a few drops that fell on the toilet seat when I had my hair upside down saturating it w/ color.

I got this in the blue-black color, and it was nice at first but the color faded after a week! Do not get this. Get the Herbal Essences color. It doesn't fade at all.

I've been going through tons of hair colour product in the past few months in the hopes of finding the perfect golden brown. My hair is naturally black and it's pretty fine. I bought this in 'dark golden brown' and I was hoping it would be it.
Safe to say, this isn't the description... BUT it did make my hair a gloriously shiny dark auburn. I like the shine and it didn't completely kill my hair. True to it's advertisement, it didn't drip once. I REALLY like it and would probably repurchase on that alone. After a few weeks of this shade, the colour is still true and hasn't faded. I really like it... now, if they can only make a real dark golden brown!

o.m.g. this is the BEST hair dye i have EVER used!
ok my hair: is VERy long and VERY thick, dry and curly. i had previously dyed my hair with loreal preference and it was horrible, my hair turned a brassy red (it was supoesed to be dark brown!) so i was sworn off home dyes. i was going to go to the hairdresseres but with my hair it would have been hundereds. so i decided to try one more brand, this time it happened to be garnier! well i am soo glad i did, it looks wonderful. i cant say how long it lasts but it looks soo shiny and healthy. wow, i highly recomend any one how has dark blonde to light brown hair to try this dye.

Best hair color ive ever bought... and ive used them ALL
in 660 intense auburn I got sooooo many constant compliments month after month.. and I used it on dyed fried washed out blonde hair............. starts out exactly as box..... dark auburn.... then for two months its a beautiful shiny toned down auburn color with so much shine and depth... my hair has never had color this great!
makes green/grey/blue eyes POP
the health was much IMPROVED after using this......... my hair actually grew longer!!!
maybe cuz I also started using redken all soft I dunno... but this is greatttt im on my third box..........
been blonde my WHOLE life
but this beats the pants off of blonde!
I HAD TO UPDATE MORE THAN A YEAR LATER!! I cannot believe!!!!! what this product did!!! it did what no other could...not even redken or matrix or anything ever!!! Ihad been using the red for more than a year... trying to go back to natural color of dark ash blonde, light ash brown type color from dark auburn RED is very hard..and I tried and tried with manyyyy brands.... I dont know why 100% color was the last I tried! I guess I figured it was good for red but who knew about the ash..... so anyway I used the light ash brown ONE time and it took my hair from veryyyy dark brownish goldish reddish color.. to a LIGHT ASH BROWN/DARK ASH BLONDE type of color shiny and healthy and thick!! I cant believe that a color can not only LIGHTEN a RED/GOLD color but also ash it!!!!!! what!? this hair color deserves props!!!!! I never have been able to simultaneously lighten and ash my hair at same time..roots and ends! I thought this was impossible.
this hair color rules. excellence and preference and nice n easy couldnt do it after many tries..... this did it in ONE try. UPDATE:scalp numbness that lasted for many days and numbness now lasting many months. numb and dysphagia. difficulty swallowing. just thought id share just in case.

I am licensed and have been doing hair, especially color for over 10 years now. So I know what box colors work and how they work. I used this as a toner after stripping my black colored hair, hoping to get the shade it was, a bright auburn brown. No such luck. I have been using their nutrisse line and have never had a problem. This 100% is just pure yuck! It gave me hot roots and is nowhere near the vibrant color it's supposed to be. Boo to garnier for this!

I wish there was a 0 rating, this product deserves it IMHO. I bought the DO1 Bleach to strip the ginger color that resulted from using l'oreal preference in LB02 Ultra Light Natural Blonde. My natural color is light brown, the SA at my local SDM told me this color would turn my light brown hair the exact color on the box. I was very skeptical from past experiences. However, I took her advice. I also bought this bleach from the Garnier 100% color line just incase the l'oreal color didn't work. The l'oreal color turned my hair ginger, not shocked there !!!! So off I went into the wonderful world of bleaching my hair. After 1 hour my hair was 1/2 yellow & 1/2 ginger, it wasn't very pretty. I figured I was screwed at this point. I finally applied a medium ash brown and my hair came out great, just 1 shade darker than my natural color. Oh well, another lesson learned, blonde and I don't get along !! This is the most awful hair bleach ever, it was useless.

I wanted to go from brown to auburn. I usedColor Oops beforehand to remove brown hair color and lighten. I was ready to color with a very light brownish-orange color - almost like a faded brown penny. When i applied the color I started to panic because at first it looked blood red, and i thought it would either turn out like bozo red or a goth looking black-red. (the roots looked bright red and the rest black) To my relief, when i washed it out it was very normal looking, but not at all like the picture. It was dark and more brownish red. WTF? I wanted an 'oh my god your hair is red' auburn, not a barely able to tell there's even any red in my hair. Very disappointed. I thought that if anything would turn my hair red it would be this, but no - not at all! what the hell do i have to do then to get medium/dark auburn hair short of bleaching and then tinting? (I do not want nor intend to bleach) anybody?
UPDATE: to get the red i desired i think i should have tried something like loreal's mega reds with a 30 developer. :( :( :(
UPDATE: the next day i realized it does look more red than i initally thought, but still very unnatural and very dark and muddy and uneven - and i even started out with light hair! i went to sally's and they recommended i try loreal excellence in light auburn with a 30 dev. will uncolor hair and try again . . .

I just used this product tonight for the first time. I used the new shade called Soft Mahogany Brown. So far, I love it! The color was very accurately portrayed on the shade chart on the back of the box. It was not messy at all and the color was a creme, not a liquid so that was a plus. I don't understand all of the bad reviews on this product, it seems like a lot of them were people trying to dye their blonde hair brown and that is just a tricky subject in general. My hair doesn't feel dry and it looks very shiny. I will update in a few weeks if I notice anything that I don't like or if it fades really fast but so far I am liking this product alot! *UPDATE* I am three weeks into my hair color and I STILL absolutely love it!!! I have finally found the perfect color! At the rate I am going I will be able to go six full weeks without coloring again which I have NEVER been able to do with at home color before! Again, the bad reviews for this product must be people who don't realize that you have to stay within a few shades of your CURRENT color to acheive the color on the box. Use common sense and pick an appropriate color and I don't see how anyone could be dissapointed with this product.

In the course of the past eight weeks, I went from having derriere-length double-process blonde hair to present day - my hair is now shoulder length and mostly dark brown with a few lighter blonde locks left in. I used only Garnier 100% Color in my transitionary back-to-dark-brunette phases: Two weeks after the initial cut, I wove in some light golden brown chunks (#630), hardly anybody noticed. Two weeks after that, I wove in some medium brown (#501). Everybody noticed and the compliments didn't stop! (I wish I could have left it like that for awhile longer but my dark brown roots were getting really noticeable.) Tonight I used a highlighting cap/hook (torturous, never using one again) and wove in the last color phase - dark brown (#300). Great results, great coverage, but beware - this 'dark brown' looks pretty black to me. (On the other hand, so does the picture on the box, so no false advertising here.)
I have to add: I can't believe that Nutrisse has gotten better ratings than this dye - they must have greatly improved the formula. I only used Nutrisse once, when it was still a brand new product. I used their jet black shade and it faded away so fast it set a speed record. I was a bit leery to try another Garnier color (especially after seeing how poorly it is rated here) but I am glad that I went with this product - it doesn't seem overly harsh to me and delivered good results. I would recommend.
UPDATE: Though it did not seem damaging, the color faded quite noticeably within a month after application. Down to 3 lip. I think from now on I will stick with my old reliable, Nice n' Easy.
